  • Yep, nothing fancy. Basic Hummus. I get annoyed when cookbooks just give me every variation of what I could be making, but I just want to make the basic version first.
So this doesn’t really need too much of a recipe, but here’s what I put in my basic hummus, which I whizz up in a food processor.
1 tin chickpeas in water, drained
    1-2 cloves garlic
    1 large tablespoon of Tahini
    1-2 tablespoons Sicilian, lemon juice,
    1/2 teaspoon sea salt
    50ml/ g extra-virgin olive oil - or a good glug
50-100ml water. Add this at the end to adjust the texture.
Water gives the Hummus creamier texture. You can increase and decrease the ingredients to suit your taste.
Once you have mastered the basics, you can go on to try different variations. This might include.
✔️ heaped teaspoon of Harissa paste for Harissa Hummus
✔️ roasted, carrots, or beetroot for carrot or beetroot Hummus
✔️ a whole avocado, for avocado Hummus.
✔️ some caramelised onion for caramelised onion, Hummus
making your own is not only cheaper, but you are saving on the packaging too, making it more sustainable.
You can also choose to use olive oil.
Because Hummus is high, in fibre, they can slow down or digestion and absorption of carbohydrates of meals. Adding a tablespoon to the side of your plate, may have a beneficial effect by reducing sugar spikes, and increasing satiety between meals.
you can also choose to use extra-virgin olive oil which has some added health benefits too.
Bought Hummus does not have too many additives, but it is still a processed food. Making food in your kitchen, with ❤️ it’s always the best option.
