My late husband was a drummer and he loved covering Tool, it was a work out for him and he loved it. The band called him their human metronome. He'd be soaked with sweat when they did Tool covers but he loved them. Him and the bassist were always so into it. I miss him so much but memories of watching him behind the drums, lost in either a cover or original was always so incredible for me. Hearing this song brings back bittersweet memories for me as a widow. He loved watching ya'll's reactions/reviews and I happened across the link this morning and decided to watch this. I'm glad I did. I remember watching with him. He'd have enjoyed your reaction to Rush and Tool.

@@justrichard2491 The band used to call him 'the human metronome' or 'the heartbeat of the band'. We were in a recording studio one day and they had Scott (my husband) lay down the drum tracks first. He played through all 12 songs and then had an idea for one of them. The producer says "You want to re-record it?" Scott says "Nah, man just punch in." He said "Dude...you sure?" Ten minutes later the additions were made. The producer turned to me with this awed look on his face. "I been a musician all my life, been recording people for 20 years...NEVER have I ever had a DRUMMER who could do a perfect punch in like that." The rest of the band were like "He's awesome." - The rest of the day and the next Scott spent napping on the couch in the studio while everyone else recorded their parts. It was just a bit hilarious to me that he'd laid down all 12 drum tracks in less than 2 hours.

I don't know if there is any truth to it but I've always heard that Danny Carey practiced tribal drum techniques/patterns and studied these very uniquely human (drumming) sounds we've been making for hundreds of thousands of years. Really digging the new (to me) format of the videos. For me, it's perfect and what I want. My biggest gripe with previous videos were the poor audio quality of the track you're listening to, as well as there would be times you would pause at the worst spot because you didn't know what was coming next (for instance, the War Pigs intro reaction video), so going back to play the previous 5 seconds or so to "rebuild" the climax of where you left off is key. Longtime Tool fan here and linguistics aficionado. I have yet to meet another Tool fan who knows how to pronounce this song's name either, but it's very simple. The "æ" vowel in old English and modern phonetics is pronounced like the "a" in "cat" or "ash" in American English. The song's name is a play on words of "anima" (which may be a reference to the Latin word for life/soul/consciousness or the Jungian concept of the unconscious feminine side of man) and "enema" (which means what you think it means and is certainly reflected in the song's lyrics). Bottom line: It should be pronounced like "animal" without the "l" at the end.

Tools Rosetta stoned is an absolute masterpiece. My personal favorite drumming song of all time. Danny Carey drums in 3 different time signatures simultaneously...amazing.

Extremely underappreciated song. From the ball breaking lyrics about their friend to an amazing Melody line. To insane music

People are sleeping on Tool-Eulogy and H of this album.

David Thorson Eulogy is my second favorite Tool song behind Pushit. It's gonna be difficult for those guys to put out another album that will dethrone Aenima as my favorite record. Lateralus overtook Undertow as #2, but I did not like it at all at first.

Colin, couldn't have said it better! My girlfriend just got me tickets to see them in Kansas City. I hope to hear some new music by then!

chris, I envy you, sounds like ya got a great gf, haha! I have seen them 4x's, but it's been a long time, in fact, it's been since just after Lateralus came out. I live in the Seattle area, so I've seen them at The Gorge, Mercer Arena, The Tacoma Dome and The Paramount Theater. (I've seen APC 2x's, once with the original members(DAMN Paz was/is hot!)) Honestly, I still don't care for 10,000 Days, but it's been a long time since I have it a chance, so perhaps it's time for another go at it, anyway, have fun at the show, and BTW, you've inspired me to look up tour info so I can go, cheers!

The way he sings thru the slow breakdowns, he does in a way that you feel a NEED to hear each next syllable to guide you thru the breakdown

    • @Matt-hg2iz
      @Matt-hg2iz 5 лет назад

It's all about the timing he uses with his pronunciation playing off the timing of the bass

When can we expect the next ozzy era sabbath song? Would love to see you guys react to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath arguably one of their best songs with the best riff and is easily ozzy at his prime

Hi guys, great channel, you two really love music. BTW I'm a huge Tool fan but I like a lot of genres and I have a couple of suggestions for future reviews :)
Post- Metal, heavy, atmosferic, great riffs and transitions, something like:
    - Isis - Dulcinea / Not In Rivers, But In Drops
    - Cult of Luna - a track form Eternal Kingdom
    - Baroness - The Birthing
    Stoner Rock/Metal; warm, psychedelic, dirty
    - Kyuss - Gardenia / Demon Cleaner
    - Queens of the Stone Age - A song for the dead / Song for the deaf
    - The Black Angels - The Sniper at the Gates of Heaven
    - Sleep - Dragonaut
    - Down - NOD
Doom Metal, HUGE, dark and heavy:
    - Electric Wizard - Black Masses
    - Tiamat - Whatever That Hurts
    Alternative Rock / Metal
    - Katatonia - July
    - Faith No More - King for a Day
    - Radiohead - whatever you want!
    - Rage against the Machine - Bulls on Parade / Wake Up
...and why not a song from the Sigur Ros? Or from Jeff Buckley????
Or a taste of Trip-Hop from Bristol (and I'm sure Lost In Vegas will love it)
    - Massive Attack - Rising Sun / Safre from Harm
    - Tricky - Christiansands
    Ok, maybe that's enough... =P

I love the second part of this song when you can feel the musical intensity build up, over flow and then the dam breaks to finish this song. Ya'll nailed it when you said the lyrics are front and center, but that musical vehicle is incredible.
