I have the same Kahr CT380. Like you I thought the slide spring was too stiff for a 380. I replaced the two slide springs with a single flat wound spring from a Sig P938. The CT380 slide is now much easier to run & the gun operates w/o any issues.

    • @eduardorivera4100
      @eduardorivera4100 9 месяцев назад

They are made for quality hot ammo that’s why it’s so stiff and has ammunition related issues. It’s expensive to break them in but after 250/300 rounds they shoot everything reliably just 300 quality rounds is super expensive

i have one of these cool little guns. and yes let the slide release do the job of chambering a round. im in the habit of letting the slide do the work on all my pistols that lock open after last round. i never had an issue with failures to feed. i let my brother take it to the range one day and he said he couldnt get one mag through it without jams. turns out he did the same thing you did. trigger didnt get reset properly and hand racked it. i can take it out and fire 200-300 rounds worry free. btw SIG V CROWN IN 90 GR. HOLLOW POINTS ARE BADASS ROUNDS IN IT. JMHO.

Apparently from the comments they are very ammo sensitive, from what I have read they seem to have little or no problems when using Remington and Win W/B. Any comments you may care to offer I would appreciate because I really like the size and the 7 +1 shot capacity. I racked the slide hundreds of times and shot 600 rounds and it's broken in now. It shot Hornady CD with a full mag earlier than 600. It hung up on some when loaded with 5, 6 or 7 in mag. Breakin is totally worth it. I love the gun.

I had a karh p380. I had nothing but problems with it past the break in period. Failure to feed issues constantly. It did a little better with round tip lead rounds but still jammed up a lot. But most people want a defense round while carrying a 380.
I got the pm9. This gun has run all sorts of ammo defense and regular rounds. Over 5000 rounds never one malfunction.
What I have noticed is the 9mm round is pointy and sits higher up on the feeding ramp.
The pm 9 came out first then the 380.
It seams they took the 9mm model and made the 380 model without considering adjustment necessary to make the 380 reliable like the 9.
The shape of the 380 is more round and makes it sit lower on the feeding ramp.
They need to adjust the design so the round points slightly more vertically and sits higher up on the feeds ramp.
It’s a shame because it has such a great potential to be a great fun.

Jason, once you get through the break-in the gun will smooth up considerably. You'll also be able to hand rack the first round without jamming, but you'll have to use the proper technique. Pinching the slide between your thumb and fore finger just won't get it and neither will riding the slide. Place the heel of your left hand against the left side of the slide and wrap all four of your fingers over the top. Pull the slide fully to the rear and let your hand slide off. These guns need to be run wet and cleaned often for best results. I clean mine every 50 rounds. Disassemble and clean the mags ever other cleaning of the gun. Do not allow oil to get into the striker channel and you won't have a problem with light primer strikes. Do not lubricate the mags.

Just a suggestion from an old fart. Have your buddy there (if you trust him) load the weapon with one or no rounds, hand it to you and you'll know if you flinch. training like this will help you rid yourself of that problem. I've never had this much trouble with braking in a pistol. Say what you will about the Body guard it has never malfunctioned on me. I don't trust my Kahr yet. Hopefully soon thou because it is a sweet shooter when its not jamming.

Pete Zaitcev I forgot to mention that old "premium" Kahr 380 came with a plastic tool that looked like a magazine and went into the magwell. For some reason it was universally derided by the owners and Kahr stopped supplying it. Probably saved a couple of cents, too.

I also have a Sig P380 & P938, so I pulled them both apart to look at their slide springs. I tried the P938 flat wound slide spring in the Kahr CT 380 & it works great. It's easier to pull back the slide, fires & ejects every time & locks the slide back every time. Problem solved, w/o any break in period.

I would not be concerned at all about those first few mags. Other reviews have stated the 200-round number as a break-in for the gun -- also adding that Kahrs are tight when new. Also, just a tip, NO semi-auto is designed to slowly let the slide go forward! None. You have to cycle the gun with full spring force -- so those failures were ones you may have induced.

+tkarlmann I have a ct380 and kahr says Dont ride the slide or it can cause jams.. Thats there way of saying the pistol will jam and its not broken. My ct380 likes one out of 6 ammos I bought. Its 100% with Remington fmj and the others some wont even battery just releasing the slide. Yes im using the slide release. Odd my G42 Chambers ALL of the same ammo perfectly. The CT IS NOT broken like I said the Rem FMJ ammo was 100 out of 100. Yes my fingers is worn out from just seeing if the pistol can chamber a round. My Winchester PDX1 ammo a few bullets are damaged from all of the failures to feed in the kahr. Also Winchester white box wont feed. Tula is complete waste of time with this gun and Also Perfecta is Horrible. PASS on the CT unless you want to just stock pile one type of ammo...

I finished the editing on the video and will upload tonight.

There is a simple fix you can do to the extractor if you have feeding issues. Mine wouldn't feed Geco ball ammo at all. It got hung up on the bottom of the extractor. Check out the kahrtalk forum. They have a sticky on how to fix it. I did it to my CT and its been flawless since.

A good quality gun should function right out of the box. I for example had a generation one Ruger LC9, hammer verison, and it worked great, never had a issue with it. Second small caliber rounds like the 380(9x17) or 32acp, naturally lack penetration. So hardball or some type of bullet designed to penetrate the target are preferable. Hollow point reduce the effects of these small bullets.

So keep shooting it and it will become softer and you a better marksman :)

I know exactly how to correct the slide issue on these Kahr's.....trade it in for a Glock 42!!
I had the same problem with this gun while at the shooting range. I had rented one of these POS guns and found it to be a complete waste of time, and I would not trust the reliability of this gun no matter how many rounds you need to break it in.
Hey Kahr, why make the freakin slide so damn hard to use? Its called a SLIDE...it means it's supposed to sliiiiiiiiidddee!

+Nicholas M Many guns need to be broken in, even 1911's. If you watched the whole video the gun broke in very quickly and I haven't had any more issues. To each his own though, Glock is no better then a lot of other guns.

Too many failures for self defence. Notably the long let off of the trigger after firing. In a defence situation, it would be easy to be anxious and try to fire again, and fail. A self defence weapon should not have these flaws.

+Joel Barnett Did you ever shoot a revolver Joel. Every revolver has a long trigger reset. The time that it takes you to recover from recoil is plenty of time to reset the trigger and you're not as likely to have a negligent discharge.

I bought the CT 380 Tungsten model. Tungsten coated slide, trigger and slide lock. Also comes in a hard case with 2 magazines. All for the same price as the version in the video. No idea why, but it was a hell of a deal.

I stopped watching this video at about 3 minutes because you put your hand in front of the muzzle what seemed like a hundred times. You have either little experience with firearms or you've had a lot and developed some bad habits. Please be more safe.
