These five gun lists are very interesting, but I think they should be a little more standardized. Yours is very cop centric. For example is anyone going to have a list for general use that doesn't have a Ruger 10/22 on it? They might, but they're going to swap that 1022 up with a 9 mm carbine I'm guessing. That's the Paul Harrell thing: you want your pistol, Paul uses an M9, to be paired with a 16 inch barrel carbine. Then there's a masad with the semi-automatic shotgun. I'm sure it's a wonderful shotgun, and if the list is standardized for law enforcement or home defense use while sporting good stores are open, great. Pretty darn sure I prefer a pump action if the stores get sketchy though. See what I mean about standardizing lists? You really can't even compare unless the list is directly comparable. You at least have to preface your list with whatever societal infrastructure is in place.

@@frankbutta9344 That's what's good about revolvers. You can easily change the grips to better fit your hand. The Ruger GP100 is known to hold up better long term than a S&W or Colt that eventually shoot themselves loose.
Another justification for duplicating your carry gun is the fact that if you are involved in a defensive event, your handgun will almost assuredly be held for an indefinite time. You will appreciate the duplicate during the period your primary is being held..

Ruger 10/22 takedown version (if I could have 6 I'd pick a 9mm SMG like Sig MPX)
Maybe one gun 2 barrels could be permitted? Semi auto rifle turns into an sbr to replace the pcc? Probably not worried about over penetration in a scenario in which you are limited to 5 guns. If you're going into a situation where you need a more compact rifle, odds are you won't need the extra barrel length for long range precision. I'd probably keep a high capacity 9mm instead of 2nd 45...although I appreciate the reasoning. It might suck to need to source/carry ammo for 2 pistol calibers though. With a 45 and a 9 I might have to replace the backup gun with a 22. Tough choice.

It came to a head when the Chief instructor said that if I got the highest score,I was qualified then & there.
The bad news was that I was shooting against him.
Using the Stressfire techniques for the revolver,I was the high score for both revolvers (mid transition to automatics)& the class.
Great video. The longer I shoot and the more guns I own, the more I go back to my 1911's.
Me too
It's lasted as long as it has FOR A REASON! I'm partial to my Kimber Pro with 4" barrel, but any quality 1911 would serve. Keep the faith!
it depends on our own "habituation"... Mas, your command of the English language is as marvelous as your expertise in firearms.
Wow! A Wilson combat commercial.
If Wilson made a revolver this would have been a great commercial.
Eh . He's a guest on the Wilson channel . He was concientious in just using the Wilson guns as examples of catagories , and not specifically plugging them .
wilson combat ain't too shabby either..
@@filianablanxart8305 eh, doesn't change my comment.
@@filianablanxart8305 Those guns are super pricey, but it also does raise the point that it's probably better to have five quality guns than a dozen cheapies.

Massad is legend!
I took a class taught by Massad Ayoob and Col. Jeff Cooper in 1983 and I still recall much of what they taught me back then. I am sure they saved my life over the years.
This man is the best. I learned handgun tactics from him in the late 80's when LAPD was still using six shooters

@@captaindan5347 lol! So true.
Let me just say, I love the fact that two out of the five guns were 1911 45’s!!! He is impressive to say the least!!!!! Smart Man!!!!
If you knew him for any length of time, this would have been obvious. In fact, you might have wondered why it wasn’t 4/5. Ha!
1911s are for old men that refuse to change/modernize. Like the numb-nuts who still insist LP's sound better than digital music.
Awesome information! For me Ruger 10/22 - Mossberg 500 12 Gauge - .45 ACP 1911 dealers choice - Remington 700 or Winchester 70 .308 - AR .223. Also, I believe in having multiple copies of each does that violate the parameter of 5 guns, I sure hope not? Thank you for your wisdom! Wildcard lever action .44 or .38/.357 or .30-.30.
Our list are almost the same! I was thinking of firearms that could put food on the table.
1. 1911 45ACP
2. Accurized Ruger 10/22
3. 30-06 Winchester Mod 70
4. Beretta A400 12 ga
5. AR 15 .223
"The more versatile your tools are, the less tools you need." Very true statement. The P320 with its FCU design, the AR with its ubiquitous lower, a revolver that can shoot 38 or 357, and a good plinking 22 that can take LR or shorts!
But you're not going to be wasting 22lr on squirrels during a societal collapse. 22lr is unnecessary
@@georgefloydspaceshuttlepro1839 why wouldn’t I be shooting squirrels in a societal collapse? I am a tac driver with a 10/22 iron sights and I have a whole hell of a lot more 22lr ammo than other types and I can carry a lot more as well. Hunting small birds, game would be achievable with a 22lr. My first deer was killed with a .22 win mag to the head. It dropped it.
@@bracoop2 you can hunt squirrels and birds with an air rifle in .17, .22, .25, or .30 cal and the ammo for air rifles is laughably more than 22lr. Air rifles are very powerful now. I wouldn’t complain about akimbo 45’s though!
I have been following Mas since the early days of Combat Handguns Magazine. During my 27 year career in law enforcement I referred back to his legal articles for guidance and information. My 5 gun lineup is:
1: Black Aces Tactical Pro X (Pump) Combo 12 Guage.
2: Smith and Wesson M&P 340 .357 Magnum. EDC Backup.
3: Wilson Combat EDC X9 9mm. EDC Primary or KHSC 9mm.

Thank you sir I am almost 50 and basically the first time I picked up my older brothers gun magazines and started reading them I saw that you wrote a number of articles!
So basically from the late 70s till now you are a legend, still enjoy your content and 120% agree with you Massad.
When this man puts out a video.... just gotta' listen. He always makes sense and makes us think.
There are few people in the Gun world with this level of knowledge as this gentleman. Thank you sir.

Years ago, he wrote an article in Backwoods Homes about the guns you need vs guns you don't. It has shaped my collection a bit over the years. Always a good thought exercise.
Any chance you have a link to a digital copy of that article? Would love to read it
I’ve loved your advice and writing for many years. You’re not an old guy either, just experienced. Keep up doing what you do!

I was required by my department to carry a S&W 5946 9mm On Duty and a S&W 3953
9mm backup off duty then went to Glock 19 Duty and Glock 26 backup off duty.
Now that I am free to make my own choices this is what I chose.
I think it is a pretty well rounded battery.
Ayoob had been a goto for me for years. He is a great author, super knowledgeable and when it's time he has a great sense of humor.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and THANK YOU for your service as a Police Officer!!
Good to finally see the man whose articles I have read over the years.
I’ve always respected him as an authority on shooting and defense. I owe all of my success with mastering speed strips to him and his videos on speed strips. This was a great video.
This video brought to you by Wilson Combat. (4 of the 5 guns are from Wilson Combat...)
I’ve read his articles since the late ‘80’s in gun and outdoor magazines and his advice was always on point. He is a wonderful man and I hope he’s around for many more years. God Bless you and your family Mr. Ayoob.

Wise advise. I was stopped once and told the officer my exact speed I was going, he was shocked and said thats exactly what I clocked you at. And he let me go with a verbal. And he reminded me again how he appreciates my honesty and he rarely gets that.

What a fantastic walk-through of the 5-item exercise! Like all great teachers, this gentleman shares his answers but, more importantly, teaches his students and viewers how to think through the challenge. Thank you, Mr. Ayoob.

Been a reader and fan of Mas since I found him in the mud 80's. I still read him and love his evaluations of various shootings civilian and police. His reasoning is sound and he presents it well. That said I might choose differently BUT my circumstances are not his. Excellent advise as always from a master.

how interesting? Your list is 100% solid, but you're not getting checks from Wilson Combat are you? Massad is a sell out. Trash.
The 22 is fun, also it can put meat on the table.
Great conversation. I'd swap out the 2nd 1911 for a SIG P220 with an accompanying .22 LR conversion kit.
Ruger 10/22 in my opinion.
I have a lot of favorites in the gun world I love to listen too. Hickock45, Jeff Quinn (God rest his soul) to name a couple. But my 2 absolute favorite are Massad and Joe Mantegna. Just their voices and presentaion is awesome. Massad's info is so invaluable. I refer people to his videos and books constantly.
I’ve read some of his books. Those on self-defense are particularly straightforward and excellent. Every person who owns a firearm for self defense should read and own them
Agree. His experience and insight are valuable to anyone who owns and/or carries a firearm.
Keep putting this stuff out, WC.

What's wrong with Ruger 357 mag revolvers ?
@@Prepare2Survive They just don’t fit my hand as well. 😉
Good point. Never thought of that though . Guess I should refrain from selling more!!!

3. Danield Defense DD5 V3 .308
4. Benelli M2 tactical
5. Ruger 10/22 takedown version

Yeah a 9mm has gotta be on the list.
