Hi Hickok 45, I'm a Big fan of your videos. You are THE MAN !
One thing about the P380 that you should have mentioned is that the Kahr P380 is rated for +P ammo, unlike the LCP and most other 380's. With the Buffalo Bore +P 380 ammo the power is close to 300 ft lbs of energy with consistently higher velocities than standard pressure ammo. This puts the power up into and sometimes higher than some 38 Special +P ammo ! It has size, power & reloading advantages over the 38 snubbies. Thanks again

First time KAHR owner. I bought the CW380 on a whim one day at my local gun shop because the size was perfect for CCW pocket carry. Once I got home, I started reading and watching all of the negative reviews. I was very disappointed UNTIL, I went out and started shooting it. I did clean the gun as I do with all guns when I buy them, before I started shooting at the range to see how miserable this thing was going to perform. To my surprise, I have now shot hundreds upon hundreds of rounds with various ammo, 720 rounds to be exact, and I have yet to this day had one single FTF, stove pipes, jams of any kind. Maybe I should play the lottery if I’m that lucky to get the only KAHR CW380 that actually works as it should, and can trust it, especially considering it’s a self defense weapon😀. Honestly, I’m a glock guy, but I just didn’t like the size of the 42 for pocket carry in the summer months for example. This gun was bought was pretty recent, since August 2018, so maybe they listened to their customers and finally fixed their issues. I’ve been in the automotive manufacturing business my entire adult life, and earning your customers respect is crucial to your success, by building a quality product at a competitive price. Hopefully KAHR gets their act together, and starts building their reputation back up. But that’s difficult to do in this day with all the public opinions so easily available such as RUclips. Anyways that is my personal experience, and two cents. Happy shooting to all.

I carry a Kahr CW380 daily and it is a fantastic gun! The trigger is butter smooth, the recoil is negligible, especially compared to other popular 380's, and it is very accurate. Reliability has always been great. No issues, right from the box.

Thanks for this video. I am currently waiting for a recently purchased Kahr p380. While I'm concerned with the inferior cartridge, I am more inclined to carry with the concealable nature of the p380 even over a xd subc. The last concern in my mind was the accuracy of the weapon. I tend to think of factory recommendations to "break a gun in" by shooting x-number of rounds is a way of shifting potential QC problems onto the consumer with the knowledge that many people who purchase guns never even shoot them, of those who do, if the gun malfunctions, most will end up either putting on a shelf for later, or trading it off to someone.
My experience with Kahr's P380 CA model is that it's an outstandingly build pistol of superior fit and finish, and remarkable design. In fact, I'd say Kahr's basic design has it hands down OVER Glock in the trigger department, and due to the compact internal layout, if Kahr ever gets around to doing a full-size double-stack of similar size to the G17, the thing will probably hold 20 shots standard capacity! I actually prefer the cam-action of the Kahr's trigger - it's non-loading, and amazingly light - almost feel like I need a stiffer trigger if anything.
As a result the P380 is basically the smallest, and lightest semiautomatic pistol I know of - maybe Kel-Tec has something a bit lighter, but not much.
The thing that keeps Kahr Arms from being Glock Perfection is quality control. When I pull a Glock out of the box I EXPECT it to function 100% right out of the box! Anything else happens and I'll be in stunned disbelief. That's the way Glocks hit the American market over 30 years ago, and that's the reputation they've built that led to being the most widely used semiauto handgun. If Kahr could get that right, they already have the rest of the it figured out.
My P380 arrived looking super-sweet and clean. I quickly discovered it simply didn't want to feed, and on the few times it did, it didn't want to eject cleanly. Completely UNLIKE myself, I decided for once to follow the manufacturer's directive to just shoot the hell out of it and it would work itself out. (Even though having been building my own guns for the last 40 years I already know wasting ammo in pursuit of reliability is a fool's game. The right answer is to FIND the problem and correct it.)
So I shot the gun a few more times with different ammo, even went so far as to disassemble it, and with a cartridge case inserted in the chamber, work the rim up behind the extractor to lock, then unlock, and repeat about a billion times. Unfortunately the quality of Kahr's CNC machined steel parts did not lend itself to any sort of observable wear that loosened anything up. I mean I KNEW the problem was the extractor was simply too tight. It could not be budged by a fingertip, and due to it's excellent design that extends down to capture the cartridge rim as early as possible, "tight" was something it didn't have to be. Eventually, I gave in and pulled the slide cover and examined the extractor spring and lo and behold the tiny coil spring was so over-long that when compressed under the slide cover it formed a near solid! There was no amount of shooting that was EVER going to "break that in!"
So, I snipped a few coils - maybe 1.5, and put it back together. INSTANTLY all problems with feeding and clearing the ejection vanished like a bad dream! Since that moment the little P380 has proven to be a100% performer! So why did it leave the factory with the wrong length spring? Clearly there are holes in the final assembly process which I suspect is due to Kahr thinking every gun should leave the factor with TOO much spring tension everywhere rather than not enough. That's great. Everywhere BUT the coil spring which must NOT be compressed to a solid column if you want the extractor to work properly. The extractor that clearly the designer took great pains to make better than other designs only to be let down by the assembly workers.
Now with all THAT sorted out, I love my P380! did removed the CA-mandated chamber loaded indicator and grind away about half the tang that extends down over the breech-face so that it only sticks up a little bit when chambered instead of jutting skyward like it's competing with the Burg Khalifa. I actually LIKE the top-mounted LCI because it's both a visual and tactile device that in no way hampers function. Even though I developed a workaround procedure for removing the slide without using the orange plastic faux magazine, I finally decided it was time, and pulled the magazine disconnect spring out, but left the disconnect arm in place unchanged as it maintains spacing on the cam pin, and causes no problems other than the need to remember to press it down slightly when placing the slide back on the frame.

    • @jasonholland8392
      @jasonholland8392 5 лет назад

It appears we’ve had the same experience with the P380CA. I actually removed the mag disconnector. Did you see the scheme a Kahr followed to hide the spring in that tiny chamber at the back of the grip? The lower end loops around a pin That extends between the two polymer walls. The top of the spring, which you disconnected, has to be fed through a hole in the frame under the cocking cam to hook on the disconnector arm. If I had to put the mag safety back in it will take a miracle to fish that spring through the hole and reconnect it. You had a valid point regarding the spacing on the cam pivot pin after removal of the disconnect mechanism. I was afraid of that myself, but the spring between the cam and ejector makes up for it. The spacing may occasionally affect the trigger reset but only when no magazine is inserted. Once a loaded mag is inserted everything is tight and the trigger resets every time. I stored that orange plastic fake mag in case a future buyer insists on having it. The same applied for the weird trigger lock.

Not only did it have a nice case but 3 extra stainless mags including 2 with 7+ 1 making the grip perfect. Only have a few rounds of ball practice through it but so far it's flawless. good video again like always!
I like smaller guns, because i carry everyday, kinda hard to carry a full frame gun concealed everyday at work. Funny how folks go to the range with thier full frames and when they get home put them back in the safe, but never practice with thier edc gun. great video!

@daddyoca69 , I haven't looked at the Ruger much. Guess they looked pretty closely at the Glock, too, when they started making polymer guns.

@Mrcaffinebean , Yes, they make one, but it's the same size as the G26, right? Who'd want a .380 that big anyway?

I have a Khar P380 couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn with it and was ready to sell it. Then I saw this and some other video’s praising it and went, hmmm. How can all these guy praise it when it’s not good for me? I thought, maybe it’s me and not the gun?
    1) I was using flat nose rounds. Which don;t work with the sharp loading ramp of the Khar.
    2) I noticed my grip was all wrong.
So I painfully ran my 200 rounds of flat nose rounds 4 at a time Thru it and with a more correct grip at 7 yards I’m shooting 12” groups. Bought round nose rounds and wha la. Full clips 8” groups at 10 yards as fast I can. Damn glad I found this and a couple other good video’s. It is now my daily carry in a Unclegeorgeswalletholster.CoM holster.
Glad I did some research. Nice video, thanks for saving me.

Good review. I like your videos because of your experience. I want another 380 and it was a toss up between S&W bodyguard, Ruger LCP, kar cw380, glock 42, p238 nightmare, expensive. I’m thinking the kar CW380 May be the one for me. I guess with all these guns it preference and what you like that comes into playing.

2023 and I am just writing a comment here about my P380 that I picked up for Christmas (I'm in CA)
-- It is my go-to carry for trail running/outdoors activities; I can safely say I love this little gun! It shoots very accurately and is easy to conceal for a petite girl. I haven't had a malfunction... yet

After a nine hundred round break-in. (What it took for it to do all things correct - mostly staying open after the last shot). I love this cw. But, ya gotta be ready for the break-in. It ain;t the aforementioned 200 rounds as Kahr says. I took extreme care of the weapon, and it took this long.

Half of the issue is rough machining in the slide rails. I polished that by hand solving all issues at once

Thanks for have me at the compound! Hey I was noticing something kind of neat. When ever you reach out to the 80 yard gong, sometimes John zooms in a bit, and you can actually see the bullet in mid-flight. I don't know why, but that's cool looking. Do you think you guys could incorporate that into pistol vids? I remember you firing one of your .45's at the gong, and marveling at that big pig of a round hustling its way up there. It really shows a difference in grain weight each time you do it.

I like either this one or the PM9 for pocket carry or in situations where you can't handle much print. I live in Florida and when I am of age to carry I want to have options for pocket carry or just a way to carry when it's hot (basically all the time). I think this P380 would be better for females/smaller frames in minimal clothing situations. Something I would equip my wife/family with! (When I have one obviously)

I walked into a gun store many years ago and wanted a diamondback 9mm, the guy behind the counter showed me the diamondback and said he had this P380, I put both in my hand and boy did that Kahr feel good so I bought it and carry it in my front pocket with a pocket holster, that’s how I like to carry.
I bought a Kimber ultra crimson carry ll, added trijicon night sights, was a sweet pistol. Was a marathon breaking it in, Kimber calls for 900 rounds, kahr was 300 rounds. The kimber is a match grade .45 and that little 380 was prob more accurate so I shelved the kimber and carried the P380.
It’s by far my fav CCW. Craigslist deals, motorcycle rides etc. it carries great and is comfortable. Looks like a smallish wallet in the front pocket.
I also found unless the pistol is really comfortable I don’t carry it as often. I can easily carry the kahr daily with no probs. I am trying to stop the threat, I don’t need a pistol that will go threw a concrete block and pass threw someone. A .380 is plenty to stop the threat. A .22 mag is enough. If I can get away, that’s all I need to do. I would much rather the perp to live but I won’t feel bad if they don’t make it. Can’t say I’m out for blood or over kill with a .380 lol.

It is nice to have options. Grab a .380 to accompany that G26. That is what I did. I purchased a little Taurus TCP .380. Those little .380s are pretty cheap. I think I bought mine for $220. It has ran flawlessly so far.
