I do both. Some are my lovers, others beautiful friends. Common dates in fine or better are a great investment. They are already selling for more than I paid last year. Want to sell, any coin store.
you'll never make money collecting crap if its all based on Grey/blue/red book value. You're wasting your time if you want to make serious money. just stack bullion

I just found your channel and I have learned more from you in one video than at least 5 other silver stacking vids. Thanks, I have just started stacking and have much to learn. Again thanks.
Thank you for your comment Driver Man! I'm glad you found some value in this video. Watching the stacker video's and learning is a great resource to have. The silver community here on You Tube is excellent. Keep stacking!
I have been thinking about this as well, but I love my Morgans. I started out buying Silver and Gold and then kinda got hooked on the Morgan dollars. I almost feel guilty when I spend all of my budget on Morgans.. I'm going to start buying Silver again though because it got me through some tough times during the pandemic last year. The Morgans are for my Grand kids and hopefully they will hold on to them so that some day they will be wortha lot more. Great video, thanks.
The Morgan is a great coin and a lot of people stack it. Silver bullion is what I rather stack at the moment- given the current market conditions. I'm glad you lied the video! I really appreciate your comment as well. Keep stacking!
Morgan's may be my worst buy for stacking but I love them. I'm not even sure why. I guess it's just a good classic design. I love the old worn out dirty/toned ones far more than the clean shiny ones. I have 10 - 20 of them both clean and cull. I always seem to look at the old dirty cull before the clean ones if I have them laid out in front of me.
The Morgan's are a beautiful coin. The history of those coins is intriguing, so much to learn. It's frustrating from a stacking point of view because they are around 32 times face vs constitutionals that are 20-24 times face. Still- I agree that the Morgan's are a wonderful coin- I love them too! Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate the support!
The cull coins have character, like an old guy like me. What’s the fuss, you buy culls cheep, they sell cheaper. Buy fancy, sell fancy. Find the sweet spot for you and buy Morgan’s.
I don't mind paying 50-60 bucks a coin for a common year BU Morgan. The Cull pricing is a little high I think. But- stack what you like, that's the most important. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment!
Love the Morgans. Out of my entire collection I have only 2 culls. I find the obverse of the peace dollar to be hideous, the scrawny profile including the slightly parted lips doesn’t appeal to me at all. So I found someone willing to trade my peace dollars for their Morgans years ago. One of the best trades of my lifetime.
The Peace dollar isn't my favorite either. I have a few culls and one slabbed 1921 and that's about it for me Peace dollar wise. Great trade- the Morgan is the better silver dollar. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@tubeviewerX20 People that think their weak constitutions are somehow a strength aside, arachnids are fascinating creatures, that is why the Perth mint 2015 Funnelwebs are my favorite guilty pleasure, and most numerous, silver coins.
Great vid, SS! I don't have any Morgans at all. It is nice to have some of them in the collection, and the points you raised are spot on, imho. Another fantastic side of your collection we got to see here. Awesome showcasing and thanks for sharing your insights and knowledge, good sir!
I saw you had subbed and I just watched your first video and subbed you back #122! For some reason I couldn't leave a comment...kept saying "comment failed". Some times weird things happen on U tube. I'll be back to try and leave a comment for you on your channel. The Dude is a great guy- gotta love the Dude! Thank you for watching and subscribing. Welcome to the channel and hope to see you here again! Thank you!
I remember when the shops couldn't move vintage silver and that wasn't too long ago! The Morgans have been on a tear upwards in value- crazy. You can still stack MS common dates for a reasonable price but the CC's are up there.
The value of holding a Morgan dollar in your hand and thinking about who held that coin when first struck is a special kind of value. Thanks for watching Fred!
Nooooooooo! I just started stacking Cull Morgans! What if I'm getting culls for $25? I see what you did there, quick math... stack silver not morgans... I don't think i can resist the Morgans. Constitutional has really gone up in value since this video i think. Great pile of morgans my friend!
Exactly, the whole market has changed since this video posted. If you can grab cull Morgans for 25.00 a piece right now- that's a good deal. My LCS has none and when they do the cull Morgans go for 30-35 range. The demand for older 90% US silver is through the roof in the current market as you know.
Such an Iconic coin to own. I'm glad you have an example of one! Picking up some nice Mint State slabbed coins are a great long term investment- imo. Your not missing anything in regard to stacking Cull Morgan's...other then paying over 30 times face value-lol! Thank you for watching and commenting- awesome!
Excellent! I'm glad you found value in this video. Many great resources and silver stacker here on U-tube, great stacking community. Thank you very much for watching an commenting! Keep stacking!
I enjoyed your video Thanks for the clarity you provided about the silver content of a Morgan dollar and its weight. .773 of one Troy ounce is roughly 78 per cent silver. With so many of them worn or in cull condition, that leaves just a little over the spot value of silver.
Yes- you can loose silver in some of the more worn out coins. That's why it can frustrating that the LCS sells these per each verse weight. Thanks for your comment- vey much appreciated!
Could you imagine the story a coin such as this could tell if it could speak...This has always made me think about each and every coin I have collected...
I think about that a lot....especially when holding a Carson City Morgan dollar. Someone at a real old western saloon could have covered Billy The Kids bar tab with a 1878 silver dollar. Great comment Mike- thank you!
@@SilverStruck This would make a great movie somehow...When I watch Tombstone and any scene that has coins in it I try to pause the movie to see the coins being used...I love the fact that Morgan's have been around a long time and who might have handled them and where...Cheers my friend
I think about that all the time when looking at my collection. Was this a birthday gift for a child in 1888? Did it get spent at a horse race or opera? Lol
Just found your channel. I only now just bought a couple of Morgans for my private collection. I also give a lot of silvers away but not yet a Morgan. Maybe when I get to 1000. Great advice. Greetings from Switzerland
Thank you for watching and Subbing! I appreciate your support-thank you. The Morgan's are a great coin to collect. The premiums on the cull and the silver content just make it hard silver to stack. I have some slabbed and graded coins and those hold their value better. I'm glad you added some Morgan's to your collection!
I enjoy Morgans and own very few. I understand & appreciate your points of view. I am a teacher of various subjects, and a student of many other subjects. I have not reached mastery of numismatic collecting or at a higher financial availabiity, I have a few PCGS slabs in Morgans, so it will take me a while to collect. Again, as to the debate of culling, stacking, or for numismatic value, I have taken your information among others, and will form a new direction. Thank you for your video.
Awesome comment my friend! I just subbed your channel and will look forward to watching some of your videos. I'm here to learn from others as well. Most of my coins are slabbed and graded- especially my collection of CC Morgans. Thank you for checking out the video and leaving a nice comment.
Hey Richard, thank you for watching! Morgan's that have holes or damage are sold as "worse than cull". Then you have your standard cull coins and they should not have holes or damage. Morgans trade at much higher prices than your 90% silver half, quarter and dimes, so they do not sell as constitutional silver price. That said- if someone is selling you Morgans that way- at Constitutional silver price... buy all you can! Appreciative or your comment- thank you for chiming in.
A year later and I came across another great video that is Oliver approved. Beautiful C.C. Morgan you have. I only have 4 Morgans. I also have one of those Ashai rounds.
Hey SH, you found my most watched video! I love Morgan dollars but mostly collect them in MS grades. The culls have just gotten too out of control price wise. The Ashi rounds are nice, aren't they?! I'll tell Oliver that Silver Honda says hello😸😸
@@SilverStruck I also picked up another 1 ounce silver buffalo round from my L.C.S. yesterday. My L.C.S. charged me .25 cents less than he did last week when I picked up my first one…..go figure. I try to pick up at least one silver round every two weeks when I get paid. I’m trying to save up some more money again to buy another 10 ounce Engelhard from Patriotic Stacker.
I've been buying silver for 25 years. Raw Morgan's do not belong in the hands of inexperienced collector, As well as many other collector coins that are raw. The Secret is to educate yourself like this video you put out which is great! Stackers should focus on medallion rounds and bars, not coins, unless they are pre 1964. Rare coin collectors and stackers are 2 different things. I happen to want to do both. And 25 years later I would say roughly 3/4 is stacking and a 1/4 is high value rare coins in gold & silver. My suggestion would be educate yourself as much as you can and enjoy the experience as well as the profit. Look up and visit coin show Or dealer in your area and ask a hell of a lot of questions.
Totally agree with you John. The tough part is the more coins you own the better you can get with getting familiar with the coins and studying them. Other than the coins handed down to me I started with slabbed coins- that way you know they are authentic and can study them from there to buy raw correctly. I like your comment, well said Sir. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for watching! This is my most watched video. I've warmed up to the Peace dollar and now collect some in Mint State. As time goes on, I think the peace dollar will be more popular.
I’m a little late to the party, but I’ve always enjoyed collecting Morgan dollars. They may not have the silver content of rounds or bars, but they have a history I can appreciate. They also look great in my bourbon room.
Morgans my all time Favorites!!! Have many B.U. ones...Graded, ungraded. Finished my date set a few yrs ago, Culls ect.. My LCS culls are usually V.G. to V.F all full rims... Boy I ate them up back in 2019...15 bucks a pop...but now up to 30 Dollars! So I'll be laying low for a while!!!
Yes but that's perfect- you bought them up right! I never got any that low my LCS had them for 20.00. If I couldn't find anything in bullion I'd want to buy, I'd always grab 4 or 5 Culls. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I'll take the Morgan every time myself. There's no history in a silver round. Also I don't consider a g 4 coin a cull coin. I think a cleaned coin or an ag3 coin is a cull though. Enjoyed watching you video. I will check out you other coin videos.
HI Rick, thank you for watching and commenting! Your right about the history behind each Morgan dollar and that can't be recreated in a generic round. I collect some vintage rounds and consider them to have some historical value but like the Morgan's.
That's awesome! Just subbed to your channel so I won't miss it. I need 1892 CC and then I have all thirteen years of the CC as well. Planing on doing a video on that someday. For now- I'll wait to see your CC collection GD! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@SilverStruck Thanks for the sub. I have you subbed already. I just added the 93 CC this weekend to complete the collection and just for good measure I added the 1900 O/CC as well GD
I'm afraid once I start collecting I won't stop. I only got one that Fish gave me. Like you said its more of a collectable than something to stack. I rather stack vintage silver. I might get a few just to resell years from now for collectable reasons.
I still think Morgans culls are the worst for adding silver weight. Historical heavy silver coin to hold in your hand- yes, for sure but not for "stacking". I will say the culls have exploded in value, so in a later video I walked back my view that buying culls was not a good idea. Vintage silver- all the way!
For the vast majority of investors, silver bullion is the way to go. Selling Morgan dollars at a good price is tricky at best. I've seen them deteriorate, even protected in capsules. Prices can fluctuate wildly and values are uncertain. Buy bullion instead.
The only Morgans I have been purchasing lately are Carson City Morgans- mostly in MS. Of course these are also not very liquid, you have to work a little to sell them. Silver bullion is liquid as you know. With silver spot price AND premiums coming down, it will soon be a great time to accumulate silver bullion👍👍
Well done! I have 1 Morgan, it is definitely a collector piece. I have however had success stacking US commemorative silver dollars, which have the same silver content as Morgans. I've been getting them around $25 a piece.
Thank you! Those commemorative's sound like a good deal....better vs the cull Morgans anyway. For Morgans I collect almost all slabbed and graded but it puts the hurt on the old wallet, so I go slow collecting them. Thanks for watching and commenting- vey much appreciated!
I've been buying commemorative sets mostly for the gold. My lcs sells me them for 5% over spot for the $5 gold coin and $20 for the silver dollar. My favorite so far is the 1992 Christopher Colombus set which included 2 silver dollars.
I will say this..... back in the ripe old year of 2019, I stacked peace dollars for $16 per coin. Provident was basically throwing them away. What they called cull, are coins that still shine with great details. No slicks in the bunch of them. I am not unhappy with that purchase today.
I'm in the UK and I only have one Morgan and one Peace dollar. I bought them because I have always wanted a genuine silver dollar. Now I have both, I'm happy. However, I would love to have a CC coin, but, they are way too expensive. Good luck with your stacking!! Best wishes from the UK!!👍👍👍
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment Garry! Glad to hear you have some nice Morgan dollar examples in your collection. The CC's are a bit on the pricey side for sure.
Morgan’s really aren’t great for investment stacking, because you’re paying a premium for the numismatic appeal... even on the cull coins. Having said that, they are much more fun to hold and look at than generic silver rounds, so they are nice for hobbyist stackers who want something beyond a straight-up investment. I’m also one of the weirdos who actually thinks circulated Morgans are more interesting than BU examples. Circulated coins tell a story and show their history. They were spent in saloons and were bet in poker games. BU Morgans mostly sat in bags inside bank vaults until collectors obtained them. They are pretty to look at, but often have less character... in my opinion, of course.
Great comment mjanovec! The cull coins have more character for sure. I like both BU and cull for the exact reasons you talked about. Thanks you for watching and commenting- much appreciated!
I think having Morgan's in Xtra-fine and below is good because they are so reconizable and not worth faking. Good for barter in a future situation... I will keep collecting them.
Stack what you like for sure my friend. For straight up silver bullion, I still buy silver rounds and bars to add the cheapest silver weight. If you buy the cull Morgans because you like the history of them, design ect, stack em up! Good point on the scammers not bothering to fake the culls....except if you had something like a 1893S of course, lol! Thanks for watching 👍👍
HI rAgTag! Those slabbed and MS graded Morgan's are beautiful. The common years like the 1881-S are super easy to own. It's the CC's and the harder date years that break the bank! I hope you get around to grabbing a slabbed Morgan sometime. Thanks for watching my fiend- I'll be over to your channel a little later!
That's a very rare coin and congratulations for owning one! I have not acquired a 1893 S myself. That's one of the only instances when a Morgan is so rare that is has numismatic value in any condition. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
For some reason the premiums around here on those cull Morgan coins are high. If I could pick them up close to spot- I'd stack them again for sure! Appreciate your support Aloha Stacker- thank you!
Fish just hypnotized me with the last 60 seconds of his most recent video this week talking up the logic of stacking slabbed Morgans that are MS63 because of the lower premiums for a great piece of Constitutional silver. I don't get why someone will spend $70 on a 1 oz. Scrooge McDuck or Marvel comics coin when you can buy real money that's no longer being minted. The caveat is that we need to wait and see what happens with these coins in 15-20 years, but I don't see throwing money at the "collector" bullion that I need to eventually sell on eBay when I can get a piece of history with a grading to it and let it sit for a decade or two. P.S. I both "liked" and subscribed. Great video, S.S.!
Fantastic! Thank you for liking and subscribing! I love watching Fish and his very unique style of stacking and collecting. Graded Morgan's can be tricky values wise- some coins will appreciate way faster and higher than others. Obviously if you are going for silver bullion values the call Morgan/Peace are not the best way to go "stacking" wise. Love your comment, thank you very much!
Thank you Silver Fanatic! Yeah, Morgan's are tough to buy price wise- better off with that beautiful silver bullion I see on your channel! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
So now will you take that 1899 Morgan and put it in an auction? And have you ever sold any coins in an auction? Would like to see more on that. Good video
I haven't sold too many coins, mostly just accumulate. For awhile I was upgrading my CC Morgan dollars and as I did, I'd sell the coin that I had upgraded. The prices as gone so high, I haven't been upgrading lately. Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it!
Loved collecting Morgans. Never bought culls. For a couple more dollars I bought those that may have some numismatic value. Artistically I loved gently cleaning them accepting they would be worth their silver value only. Just too expensive to to do that now.
MFB- Thank you for commenting! I completely agree, Morgan's are for collecting. I f you find one at spot or so- stack them but other than that- better off collecting slabbed and graded Morgan's.
The Morgan’s are a special piece of American history. Each coin tells a story to the beholder. I have purchased good quality, common grade Morgan’s for fair prices, just check the Red book. Morgan’s maintain a premium over other denominations. My grandchildren will sell them for $1000 each, $100 over spot (or more).
HI Ben Franklin! On the raw BU's and graded coins I agree completely. Stacking culls for silver content isn't working out right now. If you brought a cull Morgan into a LCS right now you'd get 25 bucks on a coin you just bought for 32.00. You sound like a very smart person, so you must know the culls have little or no numismatic value. That said, the really neat part about history is that right now you could go toss a cull Morgan into a field somewhere and a thousand years later someone could dig it up- what's that worth? Thank you for watching the video and leaving a well thought out comment!
@@SilverStruck was rewatching your vid this morning. Over the past few months I learned some advantages, at sale, of Constitutional Silver coins over silver rounds and bullion. My understanding is, Constitutional coins are treated different, by law, at the time of sale in most states. Coin shops and pawn shops are required to treat silver rounds and bullion/bars as pawn items. Pawn items require records of sale, hold times before reselling and filing of government forms for large sales. US silver coinage is considered a monitory transaction, a trade of one type of money to another. No forms, no hold time, no receipt required and NO limit on the amount of a sale. Shops prefer US coinage since there is no risk of silver spot price dropping while on hold and the ability to resell the coins same day. To me this is a BIG reason to stack Constitutional Silver for our heirs. Fortunately, 90% of my stack is coins. Do you have the same understanding of this issue?
@@benfranklin9156 This comment really makes me think. I'll start with saying this: your geographical location should be a prime factor weighing into your stacking strategy. Examples- I'm from NH, our state has no sales tax and no tax on any PM's. This fact for NH is not true for other US States. Look at Canada- they stack 4 nines pure mostly because they are taxed on 3 nines pure. As far as I know- there is no difference in selling a 999 rounds verses constitutional for me in NH. No matter what country a stacker is from- they all seam to have on hand or want US constitutional silver-regardless of their own tax situation. I think you are in great shape with your 90% silver. I really hope you found value in my reply. Wish I could help more but the above is what I know! I'm not much of a BS artist, so I tell people what I've learned and nothing more. I'll ask my LCS what they think of what you have told me. If there is an advantage to 90% in my State- it would be nice to know.
I stack and collect Morgan Dollars! And Thank you for Explaining what a "cull" is, I have a 1904 S Morgan that is a Cull. Thank you again for your video!
Well said! The history you hold in your hand is amazing to think about. If the premiums on the culls come back down it will be time to stack them once again. Thanks for watching!
I make rings out of silver coins and the morgans and peace dollars are great for men's sizes... I also use dimes, quarters, and halfs for smaller sizes Many culls are perfect for this... Modern silver eagles are good too but pure silver is not as wear resistant... I haven't bought since the price hike but I have been a little concerned about being able to get more in the future... I'm more concerned with availability and legible details than price...
Wow- cool skill you have turning coins into silver rings! I've seen examples for sale of the rings you are talking about. The cull Morgan dollars are still widely available (in my area anyway). The price has jumped way up as physical silver supply's are depleted. I really appreciate your comment- thank you!
I collect silver dollars for long term invest and as a hobby. The investment side I don`t buy culls because of lost of metal. I like the double safety net of silver dollars one the hobby value and two the metal price if one fails the other value would kick in unlike a silver round, bar, or art medal which is solely depends on the market. Just my collecting/ stacking habits.
Totally understand your point. You can buy Culls by weight...but still they sell at a premium-IMO. I really appreciate you took the time to comment- thank you!
Mostly been sticking with the slabbed Morgans but the pricing on high grade MS is insane now! It's really slowed down my collecting. I wait for the price to drop a little and it only gets more expensive, lol!
Excellent! It feels good carrying around a piece of history like that. The first person to put that coin in their pocket is long gone now....I wonder who that person could have been back in 1900? Great pocket piece!
So I'm not "stacking" Morgans, but I am "collecting" circulated Morgans and I do it for this reason. If silver goes ballistic, I will not really lose my "investment." But if the world stays normal, then there will always be others that want to collect Morgans, and so if I need to then I can sell and I won't lose a lot of money. But if silver goes down, I may lose some money, but then again I won't have to sell if I don't want to. Lastly, I like collecting Morgans that are not as worn as your example, but they are not "uncirculated" either. So, am I doing it wrong? I'm just concerned that if the world falls apart then having lots of money tied up in numasitically high end coins will be the first to fall in value. Just looking for your thoughts.
So, if I read your comment correctly: you are purchasing circulated Morgans for the numismatic value but using the silver content of the coin as a backstop of sorts. That's a solid way to go about investing in silver- having several layers of value is key. Keep in mind that in today's market common date circulated Morgans have little numismatic value. That may change in the future. One way you can enhance what you are doing is to search out semi key dates or varieties missed by the dealer in the bin- commonly called "cherry picking". Hope this helped! Thank you for the comment👍
@@SilverStruck Yeah, it does. I just can't afford to have $1000 or even 100s of dollars in a single coin, only to see that value evaporate because the world goes south and the economy tanks badly. If and when that happens, then it may take years before numasmatic values come back. Extremely valuable coins will always probably keep their value simply because there is always someone with money that wants the best coins. But that is not me, I'm stupid crazy poor, but I need a hobby, and just prefer Morgans over other coins. Consequently, I'm cherry picking circulated Morgans with the lest amount of wear. Again, thanks for the response and you did understand my question. I'm not a stacker for investment purposes, but I don't want a hobby that burns money, I want one that will maintain some value if I ever have to cash out. Blessings.
I stack Morgans, but I generally don't buy culls, and I don't buy Morgans that cost over $50. I have around 100 Morgans, about 60 of them are prior to 21. I have about the same number of Peace Dollars. I tend to pay more of a premium for these coins, but since 90% Constitutional makes up fully 50% of my overall stack, I like to have the Silver Dollars. I have zero Morgans or Peace Dollars that are graded, though I have a few that could qualify for a decent grade. Hopefully, these are coins I'll be able to pass on to my son, but that all depends upon what the economy does over the next 30 years.
That's a great Silver stack! If you have a nice 1921S that could grade around MS64 or better, you might want to think about sending that one it to be slabbed at some point. The S mint in high grade is becoming scarce. Nothing wrong with stacking Constitutional either! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nothing wrong with that. Paying a little more to get a nice BU with some numismatic value might be a better way to go these days. Thanks for watching and commenting, very much appreciated!
Great point, man 👍 I do collect Morgan's (I only have 9, I think), but as with my collection (as differentiated from my stack) a coin of any date & mintmark. of any grade.. may fill a hole until I get a superior specimen. I have no Morgans in my stack.
I'm glad you enjoyed watching! I do not stack Morgans to this day but I do collect them- same as you. For the most part I stick with slabbed and graded CC Morgans for collecting.
@@danrumble74 Nothing wrong with that Dan. I'm 46 now. In 2018 I became interested in coins and stacking again. I like to collect higher Mint State CC Morgans as a long term (investment). So far it's worked out but I do not like selling, so that can be a problem, lol! Coin collecting is really fun, it's nice to be back collecting
I love Morgans, but I'm confused why they are so expensive relative to other junk silver. Honestly they are hardly rare, they are in every coin shop and antique store in America. I have a couple that I bought just to put in the stack because I do like them, but to me they just aren't rare or special enough to consider stacking them on the basis of price alone.
Exactly! I have a bunch of culls but unless it's a 1893S- it's not rare. That's the frustration with the cull Morgan's- they trade for silver and not numismatic value, so they should trade the same way as constitutional silver. I checked out your channel and subbed you. Great channel- I look forward to watching some of your videos later on. Thank you for checking out my channel and leaving a comment!
Yes, like collecting BUs and slabbed Morgans. Culls don't interest me much. I like your point about stacking generic rounds as an alternative, although I find them terribly boring. :)
Agreed! Stacking generic rounds is really boring, so I only do that when I'm adding a lot of silver weight to the stack 10, 20, 50 ounces at a time. To keep myself engaged- I buy collector silver from time to time. Great comment, thank you!
With rounds, I stick to the Asahi brand because they offer some variety and aesthetic style with their products. And I only buy them intermittently to add weight to my foundation.
Agreed- cleaning the coins ruins the value. Most in the video are not cleaned. The 1890 (which is a CC) in the bottom left was a problem coin I bought from Ebay, so that would be the only one that is cleaned. I dumped it in my Culls for it's silver weight. Thanks for watching!
Most of my Morgans are slabbed and graded but I do keep culls and some raw BU examples in the collection. Speaking of finding that one coin worth mega bucks- I like hunting for different vams. Thanks for watching C.B.
I don't generally buy culls. I will buy the non slicks. I buy culls for my son, but only because he likes the beat up stuff. I have some CC's ms64+. GSA's and such. I always wanted those and finally bit the bullet over the last few years.
Those Slabbed and graded CC GSA coins will only appreciate over time I think. Once enough investors have them they will become more scarce. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yeah right, my coin dealer wants $35 for a cull Morgan or Peace dollars, no Numismatic value, less than 1 ounce of Silver and I can get new Bullion coins for less than what they're asking.
Exactly! The cull Morgan/Peace pricing has increased to a price level that makes the price of 999 silver bullion the better buy. If the price is right, sure- buy the cull coins. In the current market it makes more sense to stack .999 silver bullion-IMO.
There is something special about holding a circulated Morgan in your hand- all that history. I have mostly MS Morgans as an investment but I do keep culls around to hold the history👍
@@lazarjeremias1421 - - it is the grade of the coin. The US has adopted the Sheldon Scale of grading. It goes from 1 (poor) to 70 (mint state uncirculated). Vf (very fine) and xf (extremely fine) are in the middle.
That's why I'd rather buy junk silver in all other denominations because you can get them at close to silver value and sometimes whem you buy bulk you can find key dates or good condition ones
Yes- constitutional silver sell way closer to spot for sure. I remember buying mostly at 13 times face but recently I've heard constitutional selling at 21Xface and more. Thanks for watching!
I just picked up a Au/Bu really nice 1921 D Morgan for $45 and 1922 Peace dollar same shape for $40. Before that I've been stacking only mints and rounds. I wouldn't bother with the culls either.
Love the BU Morgans and Peace dollars, great pick ups! The culls just aren't worth stacking for silver alone. When people pick them up for the purpose of the coins historical provenance, I can understand that.
HI Anna T! It's slow stacking for everything right now- high pricing and sparse inventory! Those BU Morgan's are really nice- I love them. It would be awesome to have a whole tube, that's a great goal. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, thank you!
Over the years, I have been able to pick up some nice numismatic quality Morgan Silver Dollars on eBay at close to cull pricing. How? I look for small sellers who are selling coins and don't have the time nor interest to list them all separately by offering them at a set price per coin. I carefully review the photos of the lot they are offering, and if enough of them are of decent quality I'll buy a few and hope I get lucky. My latest bargain was an 1883-0 in near BU condition for $32 plus $1 shipping. The other two Morgans I bought weren't as in nice a condition, but were still worth more than the price I paid.
There are deals out there to be had for sure. In the past I have also purchased some raw Morgans with decent luck. Most of the Morgan silver dollars I collect these days are slabbed and graded.
@@SilverStruck I prefer to stack silver coins that are collectible but aren't super expensive. Over the years, I have managed to collect some real beauties at very reasonable prices. I also have a collection of culls that I keep around just in case we ever get into SHTF scenario where the dollar crashes. In that situation, I could part with the culls and not lose any sleep. Thanks for some great videos. You do an excellent job.
HI Coin kid- sure. I have some Cull Morgan's to trade but most are BU. It might be easier to email and talk that way. My email is silverstruckstacking@gmail.com. Let me know what your looking for- I can take pics of what I have for you. Thanks for watching!
Numismatic coins..and even poor condition coins of historic value have outpaced generic silver bullion since this video was posted, that is for certain.
Yes sir- and that's part of the pricing issue with Morgan Culls. In most LCS's they are sold individually in a bin verse weighed for silver content. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! I enjoy having your support Sir!
My first Morgan.I am origined from France ,and i leav in Australia for 50 years. In 2000 we was in holliday in South America, and in Perou,in a schop i.sauw this 1878 Morgan,i did no nothing about,But it, and i fall in Love. I got from this 1878 all coins to 1904-1921and last month i bauth 10 Morgan 2021 MS 70.And i tank Silver Struck for is advise.
The 1878 Morgan is my favorite year in the series. Many varieties from the 8TF to the 7TF and many others. Glad to hear you enjoy watching my videos, thank you! Always nice to hear from another collector of the Morgan Dollar 😊👍
I don’t mind having tubes of Morgan’s knowing that someone will always want them. If you get them at the right price they will appreciate alongside the generic.
@@SilverStruck I’m thinking of hosting a poker game where we use cull Morgan and Peace dollars as chips but they are cashed in at the end for money just like other poker chips. But it would be fun to splash a huge pot of silver dollars.
Nothing wrong with that my friend- stack what you like! Thank you for subscribing! I subbed you back just incase you start making video's, I'll see them. Appreciate you dropping over to check out the channel!

Like you I like to purchase ms65 and higher Morgan dollars graded by PCGS on eBay as I would never purchase ungraded coins without seeing them in person.
Yeah- I'll purchase slabbed and graded coins on E-Bay from highly rated sellers. I only purchase my raw coins from my LCS. Even then- I sent one in I bought from my LCS and it came backed "cleaned" from PCGS. The coin shop refunded my money- good people. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Hi, enjoyed the vid, however one point is missing. Despite they're popularity silver dollars have among the worst buy back prices around whether they're Morgans or Peace, culls or not culls. The numismatics don't fall into that category of course but the rest do. They're a lousy buy for wealth preservation whereas other 90% silver U.S. minted coins do WAY better when one is ready to sell.
That is a very good point Adam! I noticed constitutional is around 20-24 times face depending on where you can find it. The cull Morgan/Peace dollars are north of 30 times face. I've never tried selling one and I think that's why I missed that point. I have a lot of Nephews and I give them each silver on their B-days...normally a cull Morgan or silver round. If silver goes any higher- I'll have to re think what I give out! Thank you very much for watching and making your point- very much appreciated!
@@SilverStruck Thank you as well. Yeah, silver dollars are just not a good buy when one considers buy-back prices. Amongst U.S. minted silver coins the only coins with a worse buy-back are 40% Kennedy halves which are the red-headed stepchild of U.S. silver coins and even worse are the 40% Eisenhower dollars which are the red-headed stepchild OF the red-headed stepchild.
@@adamcampbell3134 Hahaha! Yup- I've never purchased either of those coins. Your right on! Pretty much the entire stacking community stays clear of 40% silver. Great comment- well said.
The Morgan is a great coin to collect, especially in Mint State condition. If you where able to get 10 Morgans, I'd hold onto them as they should increase in value over time!
Morgans and Peace dollars alike are for historical collecting i have several ..CC GSA and circulated also I'll be handing all those down to my granddaughter hopefully she'll get a good price for them or save them .
Great history behind those coins for sure. I'm sure in time the value of your coins will increase. Gotta love those CC GSA Morgan's! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment- much appreciated!
True about "stacking" Morgans, but don't forget to mention to new comers that Generic Silver Rounds go up and down with the market ! Most Collectors Morgans stay around the same depending on Mintage and Condition !
HI Brett, thanks for watching and commenting! Good point about the Morgan values vs the market. The Morgan's do act differently as compared to the daily spot price.
HI There! Kinda... cull is a circulated coin that is worn or blemished and sometimes even damaged. Typically you find a cull bin at a LCS and it's full of Morgan and Peace dollars. You can also ask for cull ASE's and those are a modern bullion coin.
The Morgan coin you consider a "cull" doesn't really appear to be a cull to me. The mintage date is crystal clear as is the mint mark. Most wording on the coin appears to be readable. Yes it is a bit slick and missing fine details, but just doesn't look bad enough to be labeled a cull. Not an expert, and just my observation.
Not a bad observation. I did purchase that coin as cull from the cull peace and Morgan dollar bin at my LCS. I must admit- I do paw through the bin to pick out the better coins I can find. There is a worse than cull grade and that's where you can find some really worn out Morgans! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
Cull or not that numismatic value will be there one day. That's how I look at it. Look at the seated liberty for example. There cull but have a numismatic value. Maybe I'm wrong but it's the gamble I'm willing to take if not I didn't pay much but silver value
Your not wrong. As time goes on- even the culls with have collector value. At the time of this video- people where still stacking the cull Morgans for silver weight and not numismatic value. A lot has changed in a short period of time. Even the 90% Constitutional may cross into the numismatic world in the future verses stacked for silver weight.
Yes- agreed, however in the better condition coins mostly. BU Morgans and also slabbed and graded coins have been on fire. I collect mostly Carson City Morgans for my high grade coins and the prices are out of control on those- crazy!
@@firstcavcoins3554 It's possible those go up in value. A lot depends on what the Mint will do or not. If the Mint shuts down because of the D variant...all sorts of hell will break loose-lol!
HI Gregory, thank you for checking out the video and leaving a comment! unc constitutional- great silver to collect. Most of my constitutional is slicked out but I have some BU. Past that for that type of silver I have all slabbed and graded.
I like collecting Morgan's for their Numismatic value rather than just silver content.
Thanks for watching and commenting AussieCobber71! Way better off collecting Morgan's numismatics wise vs silver stacking.

I'd personally pay the extra $8 for the Morgan compared to the generic round
I don't mind paying 50-60 bucks a coin for a common year BU Morgan. The Cull pricing is a little high I think. But- stack what you like, that's the most important. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment!
Morgan's are a cool coin...
Your insight is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching and commenting Sean!
I like collecting Morgan’s cause it’s a beautiful design and the numismatic value and history they hold!
Morgans are awesome! They have gone up in price with everything else, so I have not adding many to the collection these days.
@@SilverStruck Yes I agree they are! Yeah 100% they have! But I’m still buying gotta build my collection up!
The Peace dollar obverse is beautiful and a prettier-looking Lady Liberty. But speaking of hideous- your avatar pic 😨

I thought about collecting Morgan’s but missed the boat, the time to collect Morgan’s was 10 years ago when shops could not move them. 👍😀
I remember when the shops couldn't move vintage silver and that wasn't too long ago! The Morgans have been on a tear upwards in value- crazy. You can still stack MS common dates for a reasonable price but the CC's are up there.
Never gave it much thought…until now. I have about 60 Morgan’s and they’re a handsome coin to look at.

A worn coin is not a cull, it's called junk silver or constitutional silver. Culls are damaged, bent or have holes in them.

"Raw Morgan's do not belong in the hands of inexperienced collector" ...what ? like a felon should'nt have a gun ?

@@bobc5137 Wow! Great pricing!
Very well said 👍

@@RaceCreations Thank you! Just subbed you. I saw you do have some coin videos to watch👍👍
I get it - Cull only sell on silver junk by weight but to buy a Cull you have hefty premium- it is horrible. But the history is soo good
Well said! The history you hold in your hand is amazing to think about. If the premiums on the culls come back down it will be time to stack them once again. Thanks for watching!
I make rings out of silver coins and the morgans and peace dollars are great for men's sizes...
I also use dimes, quarters, and halfs for smaller sizes
Many culls are perfect for this...
Very well articulated and informative video!! Valid Point!

Hi Silver Angel! Nice channel icon! 😎
Great information! I’ve been trying to stick with slab Morgans. However I do get some au/bu ms ungraded from my lcs
Mostly been sticking with the slabbed Morgans but the pricing on high grade MS is insane now! It's really slowed down my collecting. I wait for the price to drop a little and it only gets more expensive, lol!
I have a 1900 O Morgan that’s pretty worn down that I use as my pocket piece 😀
Blessings.

Awesome Morgan collection and great video!
Thank you! I Appreciate you watching and commenting!
More for me :)
(its all about getting them at the right price) I agree about collecting.
Good to see you Silver Bull30! Right on- if you can get Morgans at a cheap price, pick them up for sure.
Morgan's have always been my favorite and always will be 💖
Nothing wrong with that. Paying a little more to get a nice BU with some numismatic value might be a better way to go these days. Thanks for watching and commenting, very much appreciated!
@@SilverStruck true. I do need to stop buying so many culls lol.

Great point, man 👍
I do collect Morgan's (I only have 9, I think), but as with my collection (as differentiated from my stack) a coin of any date & mintmark. of any grade.. may fill a hole until I get a superior specimen. I have no Morgans in my stack.
I'm glad you enjoyed watching! I do not stack Morgans to this day but I do collect them- same as you. For the most part I stick with slabbed and graded CC Morgans for collecting.
@@SilverStruck I'm 48.. been collecting since I was 8, and own zero slabbed coins 🤷
@@SilverStruck I'm making a video now on the cheapest silver available, look for it tonight or tomorrow. Grace and peace!
Very well presented, edited and narrated. Great vid.
Thank you for your kind comment, much appreciated!
Many of those look cleaned. Cleaning trashes the numismatic premium.
I'm a Morgan gatherer.
I've graduated to graded ,& even sent in some to PCGS for grading.Just waiting for that 1 coin that will equal mega buck's!
I like to have coins that have seen life in the day that they were made, as well as some high grade specimens.
There is something special about holding a circulated Morgan in your hand- all that history. I have mostly MS Morgans as an investment but I do keep culls around to hold the history👍

@Silver Struck I would definitely get some of the old more damaged ones for historical purposes if I could find them at a more reasonable price.
I collect Morgans. I do not stack them. I am working on a tube of BU Morgans. Slowly.
HI Anna T! It's slow stacking for everything right now- high pricing and sparse inventory! Those BU Morgan's are really nice- I love them. It would be awesome to have a whole tube, that's a great goal. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, thank you!
Hi Anna T.! I'm with you! Great strategy! 😎

Cull = aged round?
HI There! Kinda... cull is a circulated coin that is worn or blemished and sometimes even damaged.
Morgans are possibly the #1 coin to invest in right now
