Hi All, this video was published in 2016. In my opinion, new research has exonerated saturated fats. Unfortunately, the video cannot be modified. You can view my more recent videos on saturated fats here: ruclips.net/video/HRyjpR4naAU/видео.html
This is a pretty important update as you are talking about health. Personally I would remove this video as it is no longer good advice according to your owns words here. Not everyone actually looks at comments, also you have people who will download it and never be able to read the pinned comment. Just a very strong suggestion.
I think most people read the comments! I think you should keep the video up... you can add a disclaimer in the video title, or one of those text popups :)
I don't know that you were necessarily wrong to implicate saturated fats in this matter of what are some of the dietary causes of inflammation, Dr. Becky Gillaspy. In spite of the "newest research," your analysis & assertions in your video, especially with regard to saturated facts, may be entirely correct, partially correct, or they may not be correct any at all. It could be that inflammation as a result of ingesting something with saturated fats may be as a result of that the ingested thing is in & of itself allergenic (e.g., & as your list also notes, diary products are allergenic), or it may be that saturated fats are allergenic to some people, or it may be they indeed do affect all who consume saturated fats, but the severity depends on how well the immune system of an individual is working. I would, therefore, recommend that you heed AngelaMarieTexas' suggestion, namely keep the video, but change the title to include a statement that some research has supposedly exonerated saturated fats, but most sources of saturated fats are, nonetheless, allergenic, at least to some persons, e.g. diary or nuts, including coconut. Or put this same sort of statement in a pop-up, as she also stated. I can see some of the platform's reasoning regarding creators not being able to alter videos, if what I'm thinking of is indeed the platform's reasoning rather than the reasoning being used as just a front to perform anti-dissent, political & ideological bias hit actions of suppression & oppression, for I personally wouldn't like to affirm the contents of any particular video only to experience the video being changed & caused to assert things I don't agree with. But it is in instances like these that the imposition of such a restriction becomes a real problem, for a change that legitimately needs to be made cannot be made -- this is assuming that you are correct that you cannot alter the video in any way. Yet I think what AngelaMarieTexas suggests is, to my knowledge, possible. Anyway, that's my imput on the matter.
Oh, I meant to say, also, Dr. Becky Gillaspy, that even just your mere admission that at least one statement of your may be questionable now that you have looked some more into the matter is commendable. And you did at least provide this post with the update. Be blessed!

Patsy Wilson well I have been eating this way a couple of months, but only one meal a day, so a pound of local grass fed beef sizzled up with some cabbage, garlic, asparagus, whatever I have can last me four or five days because I scoop some of this on to a huge pile of organic spinach, arugula and greens, grated carrots and grated beet. I top it with a little lemon flavored fish oil and a dash of organic apple cider vinegar with the "mother" in it. Dennis Dieter I had the same experience. I exercise regularly for years. The weight stayed the same. Now, at fifty eight, I have gained weight, and having a very hard time loosing it. I have to completely change my diet. It is going to be a challenge, but I will do it.
Those asking about what you can eat. I had inflammation for a few months. I changed my diet to whole grain rice, quinoa, chickpeas, salmon, sardines, porridge oats with water, mushrooms, lean chicken without skin, sweet potatoes, extra virgin olive oil, fruits and vegetables (kale, spinach, broccoli). I’m getting a lot better now. It’s not fun, and I miss fried foods and sweets a lot, but health is wealth.
This video is correct. It is best to stay away from all processed food. Eat alot of fish, beans and dark greens Stay away carbohydrates . Rye bread is better than white or whole wheat. Eliminate suger and any can goods with corn syrup. Taking fish oil is always a plus. I also think having your vitamin D level checked is Real important. Without the proper level one could develop cancer.
@@label1877: Oh, I've never heard that about soy - just that it's not good for you. It seems that Oncologists know nothing about nutrition, because when I asked him what caused the cancer - he just said "I don't know - just bad luck I guess.". I'm now on an anti-estrogen pill for the rest of my life.
Don't see why it should be banned. We should be able to make our own choices, it is why we have a brain, we don't need the nanny police. And yes I do use Japanese soy in some meals, a wonderful flavor, all things in moderation.

Just eliminating refined fats and refined carbs, including refined sugars will reduce inflammation. Most boxed foods have all these in some combination, plus more salt than we need.
I was just told about these things today. Marsha Woods I said the same thing. I was told to eat only fruit, veggies, and chicken(Not Fried). And drink more water. I have lymphedema in my feet and legs. I was told that I need to have a drainage procedure and compression leg dressings and lymph massage. But I have no insurance. And when I did have Aetna insurance they denied it.
Basically if we were walking through a forest ..what could we eat or drink ? Only whole foods that have not been processed, packaged etc. Mostly fruits and vegetables. If we were thirsty the only beverage would be water from a body of water(e.g stream). All basic nutrients are provided by nature...for example Nuts(protein), Avocados (fat).
I'm trying to get someone to answer me on rolled oats and steel cut oats. You are now the third person I've asked. Would really like to know if these are healthy.
With the exception of saturated fats I think you are mostly correct. I believe that saturated fats can be harmful when eaten with processed carbs (foods containing added sugar). You might mention that keeping insulin response low is very important for burning fat and reduced inflammation. Yes, corn fed beef is bad news, you nailed that.
Because of this I eat Organic peanut butter. Also buy my potatoes and use air fryer for french fries. I use a spiralizer and make zoodles . There are so many foods one can eat to lower inflation. I also do intermittent fasting 18/6 and feel amazing . Thank you great video .
The only things that are truly safe to eat in terms of NOT provoking inflammation are: vegetables, fruits, olive oil, some fish, legumes, and nuts. Try eating nothing but these things for a week or two and see if you feel better. I predict you will!
@@itgetter9 Almost all unrefined fats and oils are ok it's the refining that causes most problems Prepare food yourself from hole fresh organic ingredients whenever possible
Anything you get from your produce section, some dairy, legumes, peas beans, etc. I use a little meat as flavoring for beans, etc. Rice dishes are easy. My motto is: if there is anything in the ingredients I can't read or understand...No, thanks. So I only go down 3-4 aisles. Produce...Dairy...Peas/beans/noodles...some frozen fruits and veggies. Then meat...not much...saves so much money. Just found chia pudding...yum.
Commenters down here whining up a storm. Things you can, in fact, eat: Gluten, if you aren't allergic (which she SAID). Any grains if they are wholemeal (for example oatmeal, millet, brown rice, brown pasta, wholemeal rye, ...) eggs (if you aren't allergic), milk (depending on your genetic make-up, some can process it fine, most people can't) fish, organic meat and chicken, beans, lentils, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, squash of all sorts, root vegetables (carrots, etc), broccoli, cabbage, leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers, spices and herbs, berries, fruits, seeds, nuts, soy products if you aren't allergic, just to give you some inspiriation.
Most of the foods you advised to avoid are the ones you said to avoid "if you are allergic to or can't tolerate". Well that doesn't help! Of course. What if you have no problems with them? I can drink all the milk I want with no issues. Or gluten. No issues. So I assume then they don't cause any inflammation for me, right?
What about 1% milk? I use it in coffee but also drink homemade alkaline water with baking soda. If you cook pasta 3/4 , cool it and heat it later, it is digested more as fiber and is a 50% lower carb load.
I had a few hazelnuts durring lunch and got an asthma attack....yes I just have to make my own meals with veg, beans, brown rice a little fruit and a few seeds.
Omg I broke my diet today lol I ate all of these today ! I’ve been pretty good and something that replace that in my opinion is a fruit 🍌 🥛 strawberries 🍓 smoothies. Fruit ones . No sugar added . Keeping up with my exercises too .
So it's impossible to eliminative my daily inflammation. It would be easier to state what foods don't cause it, in my case..or if there are any supplements that reduce it. Cheers and thanks!
I have been following the way of eating from the documentary Forks over Knives for the last 18 months. I got rid of all of my medical issues including inflammation, type 2 diabetes, neuropathy, depression, and high cholesterol as well as daily aches and pains. My doctor took me off of 6 prescription medications just after the first 12 weeks. My diet consists of whole foods plant based and no added oil: beans and legumes, grains, all vegetables and fruits, nuts and seeds! There are several doctors with videos here on youtube that support this way of eating with lots of scientific studies which have awesome peer reviews. My favorites are Dr. John McDougall and Dr. Michael Greger. They also have all of the information for free on their websites. My favorite is nutritionfacts.org. (As a bonus, I am down almost 100 pounds, have tons more energy, and feel better than I have in 20 years!)
> So it's impossible to eliminate my daily inflammation Inflammation is a double-edge sword. To little, disease will kill you. Too much, damages the body. > any supplements that reduce it. Make sure to include enough minimally processed plant-based foods. All plants have developed a multitude of polyphenols to suppress many pathogens. When your cells sense them, they reduce their level of inflammation.
Vampire Iron, you asked if there are any supplements that can help. I just wanted to suggest looking into Emulin, a completely natural product from a company called iGalen that helps manage carbs and reduces inflammation dramatically. It's done wonders for me. You can find out more information at my distributor's website: www.teamdgglobal.com (just click on "Emulin+ Info") I hope you find this helpful.
Take a pinner test and it will tell you what causes inflammation in your own body. Avoid those foods and your good to go. Everyone is different , a pinner test will show you personally what to avoid. It told me to cut all pork, broccoli, witch is weird. Thought broccoli was a superfood. I eat these things once in a while and when I do you can hear my stomach growling, so I can see these things are hard for me to digest.
Nicoletta Carlone I have sister has fibro. She had been in a lot of pain. I can help you reduce your inflammation to help your pain. Sister is doing better.
You don’t mention “what are we supposed to eat “. In one of your earlier videos , you say that saturated fats e.g. butter is good for health & that it has helped you reduce weight. In this video , butter is inflammatory . You do not mention the things which are good for health. Shall be very thankful if we exactly know what to eat , so that we can stay healthy & the thought of eating does not become obnoxious .
Manashi basu - Obviously, if you have a problem, like heart disease etc. then you drop/avoid eating butter. But, if not, then you can eat it rather than margarine... but in moderation.
Butter is not inflammatory per se. As she says, saturated fats become inflammatory when you eat too much of them, actually because it throws off the balance between Omega 6 and omega 3 fats. Butter is healthy, the body needs fat. But as soon as you have more saturated fats than unsaturated fats in your diet, that's when it becomes unhealthy and inflammatory. Inflammation processes are ALL about imbalance.
Saturated fats do NOT throw off balance between omega 3 and 6. For a start all fats/ oils have different composition. All saturated fats have different proportions of saturated to monounsaturated to polyunsaturated and they all have different levels of omega 3 or 6.
Everything is ok in moderation, too much of anything is bad for you. Just be sensible with it and have ‘healthy days’. It’s all about balance in my view.
Yep, it is all true. So you learn to shop for fresh foods, a little bit of very clean meat and a lot of water spiked with fresh lemon. Health is within your grasp, but you have to think, prepare, and switching to eating once a day which actually simplifies life, simplifies weight loss and lowers the inflammation that is slowly killing most of us. Also, if you have a chronic health concern, infection or other issue, you may have been forced to try all sorts of things and in the end come to the realization that you have to be very actively participating in achieving your own health
Kathleen Gustafson I eat mostly once a day. I was told that is not good. I still get the swelling. I do not even have to be active they swell. And sometimes I can not wear shoes. It is frustrating. And I am not big on the salt. I had already started to change my eating habits. But a lot of the food I was told is what I eat. I do not eat a lot of fried foods. They can not tell me why. I have had test and blood work done. They say they usually see it in the elderly. And that I am to young to have this issue.
Eating is an inflammatory process. Inflammation is there to protect you from pathogens. Various compounds in natural plant based foods that suppress pathogens also limit your body's inflammation.
You are what you eat but what you eat is what it eats. Pastured grass-fed meats actually provide minerals and omega-3s. Wild salmon is better than grass-fed meat but grass fed meat is actually better than farmed salmon because of what the farmed salmon eats.

*saylow595:* Yes, that's true - everything in moderation, I say!
Just wondering, what exactly were you thinking when you made this video???
I'm so mix up, just need to quit eating !
I have a friend who lives alone. We talk about this stuff on the phone.
His joints all ache down to the bone and arthritis makes him complain and moan.
I suggested he watch this video,...'cause there's stuff in here he needs to know.
So he did, now he's better, at least that's his tone. He’s always crackin' up now on da phone.

Nightshades.
At 57, I'm just now discovering issues with nightshades...
@@SeMaTari1
Yes. They can cause a lot of issues for some.
What are nightshades?
@@debrasewell388
Nightshades include
Tomatoes
Potatoes
All pepper except black and white peppers
Eggplant and tobacco. Nightshades contain an alkalide that causes inflammation in some people. Most don't react.
@@herbbowler2461 really? That’s so crazy because I have been researching anti inflammatory foods and peppers were listed on all of them. Thank you for the information.
I found I had to switch to proper eating at age 56 , I was fine until then ate everything I love then and then Everything went haywire .... blood sugar ,blood pressure, gained 35 lbs, the last 7 Months I changed my diet to all good foods as stated and Everything reversed Blood pressure great , blood sugar is good ,,, so the morrow of the story for me is if your young eat it up and enjoy once your body can’t process all the junk better switch it up or die young ,,,... just sayin
Thanks for your comment, Dennis. I'm happy to hear you were able to turn your symptoms around!
The same thing happened to me. I have RA and it all came back. I have trouble staying on the whole foods plant based diet. How do you stay on it? any assistance is appreciated.

What works fir me is No beef at all and one serving of Fish 4-6oz or chicken every other or every 3rd day .. I stay away from sugar flour products ,bread ,noodles etc as much as possible and most oils except olive , I do eat 1 slice oro wheat Jewish rye every other day fir a veggie burger I make . Veggie burger keeps me away from meat 1-2 Days ... try chopping up your favorite veggies coarsely , I use onion mushroom asparagus broccoli sautéed in coconut oil then ad garbanzo flour an egg mix it up make big hamburger patty put in freezer for 30-45 min put some olive oil spray in non stick pan and fry like a burger put on wheat or rye bread and use whatever fixings you put on a juicy burger ketchup onion mustard whatever and chow down
Dennis Dieter very well said, I completely agreed with you, all these young people will pay heavy price for eating that junk food
Well I guess everything is bad. Going to have to starve
Thank you Dr. Becky !

You missed the biggest one : SOY
It’s in many foods and is terrible it should be banned
I agree, soy raised my estrogen so high I lost interest in sex and nearly lost my wife. I avoid soy at all costs.
Hear, hear!!!
@@label1877: Oh, I've never heard that about soy - just that it's not good for you. I did read in a health food book though, that corn has a lot of estrogen in it and I lost a breast to cancer because of high estrogen levels. I used to eat a lot of popcorn, and now I'm wondering if that could have caused the cancer! Of course my Oncologist never said not to eat corn, and I even asked him if there are foods I should avoid!
@@bff1316: Well said - yes, I agree - "everything in moderation"!
So basically don't eat. If it tastes good spit it out, it's bad for ya.

Organic eggs and cheese are super foods, so keep eating unless you're intolerant to Dairy.

Thanks for your comment, Marcello!
Inflammatory can cause serious hair loss... I lost a lot of hairs because I was eating so much sugary foods and drinking energy drinks. I was so skinny but it really messed me up... I’m almost recovered now but really the gmo foods are so bad for all of us. Good information!
Just eliminating refined fats and refined carbs, including refined sugars will reduce inflammation. Most boxed foods have all these in some combination, plus more salt than we need.
Moringa, bone broth, hemp seeds, aloe vera juice and kombucha are incredibly nutritious.
I’ve given up. I now only eat hand reared lettuce and make sure the lettuce is harvested only on moonlit nights.
Just don't eat period.

eat vegan.
Why don't you just say what foods DON'T create inflammation!
Brown rice and broccoli is all that's left. Great...
Actually, brown rice has high levels of arsenic, so that leaves only broccoli.
Thanks Dr. Becky. Keto is very restrictive but well worth it. Forty lbs down with Keto and all your excellent videos for help.
I have lots of problems because of this what can we eat ?????
Welp! guess I'm only eating air!
So, basically everything...
Ty! The pain was so bad! Had to change EVERYTHING! My fingers are beginning to straighten up again and I am beyond GRATEFUL! 🙏🙏🙏🍃💐✌
Gmo foods which has saturated our whole food chain. Thanks Monsanto. Thanks Bush. Fools.
Dairy might even be a triple whammy because it's heated and so might qualify for "altered fats" too?
I've been eating these all my life. I guess I am going to die if I continue.
Iv not had any solid food since 1980. I only ingest boiled water. As a result, inflammation is not an issue for me 🙋♂️
I love your methods, john gwin of texas Rotflmao
Can I fry foods in coconut oil?
Stay safe..don't eat anything!.😞
Because of this I eat Organic peanut butter. Also buy my potatoes and use air fryer for french fries. I use a spiralizer and make zoodles . There are so many foods one can eat to lower inflation.
I also do intermittent fasting 18/6 and feel amazing . Thank you great video .
Pat Dagostino organic peanut butter still has omega 6 and can cause inflammation.
Basically eat air and drink wind.
Paul Revere Lol
Dream sandwiches & wish soup. They have really done a number on us
Excellent into. Well thought out list.
So what can we eat? Most foods are processed
The only things that are truly safe to eat in terms of NOT provoking inflammation are: vegetables, fruits, olive oil, some fish, legumes, and nuts. Try eating nothing but these things for a week or two and see if you feel better. I predict you will!
@@itgetter9 Almost all unrefined fats and oils are ok it's the refining that causes most problems

*AllesInDunkelweiss:* Ah - NO tomatoes or peppers either - they cause inflammation for people with arthritis, apparently.
Interesting! Thanks for the pasta tip, will be using that one.
Awesome video, thanks...
You can get high oleic peanut butter, manilife peanut butter , has higher omega 3 ratio to 6
Saturated fats are good for you as long as it comes from a clean source!!!

Interesting. I'll give that a look. Thank you.
> So it's impossible to eliminate my daily inflammation
Inflammation is a double-edge sword.

Adams peanut butter contains Peanuts, 1% or less of salt. That's all. The others are really bad for you.

Just drink water and take vitamins
Take a pinner test and it will tell you what causes inflammation in your own body. Avoid those foods and your good to go. Everyone is different , a pinner test will show you personally what to avoid. It told me to cut all pork, broccoli, witch is weird. Thought broccoli was a superfood. I eat these things once in a while and when I do you can hear my stomach growling, so I can see these things are hard for me to digest.
So Exactly what can we eat ?
Thank you Doc, for this vital information.
I can give it all up for a few weeks then I get so fed up, I haven't done it long enough to see if it make the difference .
So you want us to survive on leaves that our bodies can't even digest ?
Is milk inflammatory for everyone or just for those who are lactose intolerant? Milk is the only item on your list that I consume lots of.
I've cut out a lot of these because I have IBS and fibro and I have found it very much helps feel better.
We need sugar in our body.
@@shonagraham2752 In that case I have been misinformed, thank you for the info
Everything is ok in moderation, too much of anything is bad for you. Just be sensible with it and have ‘healthy days’. It’s all about balance in my view.
I see the comments complain of nothing left to eat.
That is true if you were used to eating garbage rather than food (plants).
More thought has too put into food selection which most people don't want to do.
so we should just stop eating crap and eat vegetables and fruits?? just shoot me now then.
Great info. I love that this is being talked about.
Kathleen Gustafson you
Kathleen Gustafson the food restrictions in the book of Leviticus is the best way to remain healthy.
I thought all meat caused inflammation. whether it was grass fed or not
Eating is an inflammatory process. Inflammation is there to protect you from pathogens.
Various compounds in natural plant based foods that suppress pathogens also limit your body's inflammation.
b dog I'm studying treating painful joints at home and found a fantastic website at Mackyns Nature Guard (look it up on google)
You are what you eat but what you eat is what it eats. Pastured grass-fed meats actually provide minerals and omega-3s. Wild salmon is better than grass-fed meat but grass fed meat is actually better than farmed salmon because of what the farmed salmon eats.
