Thanks, keep it simple no more sugar, sleep well, meditate to release stress, low impact exercise, interval eating and keep being grateful and decisive for a better & greater you. 💚
I am slowly losing fat on keto and I think just the fact that I cut wheat out of my diet was key. I noticed that my joints feel better (I don't shuffle around like a zombie when I first get up in the a.m. and joint swelling is down), have better mental clarity and just feel better in general. Plus, I never have food cravings. I'm 67 and feel better now than I did in my younger years. I eat delicious meats, eggs, avacados, low carb vegetables and salads, a few berries, seeds, a little Greek yogurt with cinnamon and chopped pecans added, use whipping cream in my coffee, and cook with good fats. I'll take any weight loss at this point, even if it's slow, to get rid of that nasty belly fat.
1. Keep cortisol low. Less stress. Avoid processed food 2. Eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, healthy fats (nuts and seeds, avocados) 3. Extras to add to diet - Ceylon cinnamon, 70% or higher cocoa chocolate, one drink a day (12oz beer, 5oz wine or 1.5oz hard drink) 4. Time restricted eating - 12hr to eat and 12hr to rest.
Excellent advice. Thank you for common sense advice for us older women who are struggling and frustrated with this stubborn belly fat problem. It's depressing and is a lot of hard work to get rid of! I am determined to follow your regimen and not give in so easily to temptation!
I let the bread , pasta, rice ,and sweets go for five months so far , and now I no longer look like I'm six months pregnant due to belly fat . I thought that it would be impossible... because I had a large stomach for a long time. It worked . My diet consisted of vegetables and meats and a smoothie of spinach and pineapple just about every day along with exercise, but sticking to this diet was damn hard at first , but I'm conquering my sugar(s) addiction so far...
denise bomar927 That's awesome! I just started cutting the carbs out, although I did consume organic spinach fettuccini this week but NO MORE for a while!
That's awesome. I just turned 56 this month. I bought a bike for my birthday and ride around the neighborhood and get on the swing at the neighborhood park. Menopause for 6 yrs. The bread and tortillas will be hard to stop. Now that I have a better idea on what to eat at this time in my life, am encouraged. I found a remedy for the thyroid that I will start soon. I want to lose 30 to 40 pounds. OMG! The hypothyroidism has to go. Best wishes for all of you.
After having tried EVERY diet, and progressively looking and feeling bad, I googled my symptoms which included weight gain and bloated abdomen complete with 24/7 pain. Gluten intolerance. So no more wheat barley or rye. I ve lost 23 lbs and abs flat again. I'm 63. Also use honey and eat healthy fats and a lot of protein and lift wts every morning
I am definitely going to make an effort to try this before bed fasting. I have been so depressed lately due to premenopausal weight gain. I have always been an athlete with a wash board stomach. Now I have a huge flabby belly! Not quite sure how to battle against the results of my body's new chemistry (lack of estrogen). Gonna make a conscious effort to try this fast before bed. I wish everyone else good luck, too in this new adventure called premenopause!
I’m 2 years into menopause 😏but i intermittent fast 18:6 schedule since November and work out 5 days a week, and my visceral fast is normal. So far no belly fat.
I so appreciate your educational videos. I am a 56 year woman who has always been active, healthy and slender. I would describe my body shape as pear. BUT, recently, in the past few years, I have added belly fat and weight that WILL NOT leave. So, now, more apple shaped. Lol. I have always eaten a clean healthy diet, etc. Weight seemed impossible to gain until that after 50 year mark. The struggle is real! I’ve been attempting the intermittent fasting method for the last few weeks and I have noticed an increase in energy. I did lose 4 1/2 pounds in a few weeks time and then it seem to come right back. I do struggle with sleep issues so getting proper rest is not my friend. Right now I am focusing on a 6 to 8 hour eating window, which seems very easy for me, trying to take in enough calories in that amount of time and getting enough sleep. Because I sleep at odd hours. For some reason, I tend to be both a night owl and a day person. I think it has been a lifelong struggle but as I’ve gotten older it has gotten worse. I have trouble falling asleep and it’s a constant battle. I’m working on that but I love watching your videos because they do give me hope. I am 5‘7“ tall. I weigh 170 pounds. 35 of those pounds came on after age 50. Like some other person stated, they crept up on me! I did not see it coming. I’m going to keep trying and I am grateful for your videos. Thanks for all you do!
😳 OMG I could have written this post…this is me exactly, except I’m 5’8”. I’m horrified by what’s happening to my body, and it seems as though I just can’t stop this train wreck! Intermittent fasting isn’t working, I eat a healthy diet, and the pounds and inches just keep coming. I’m an active farm owner, (not a couch potato) and I just had a calcium score done on my heart, and it’s ZERO, so I’m in good health in general. I’ve always been thin…I just don’t understand what’s happening to me. =(
@Folster Farms i feel your pain. I used to have the most beautiful pear shape hour glass with a big butt small boobs. Now I'm apple shape or something like that. Most devastating feeling in the world.
Excellent! Thank YOU!! I had a hysterectomy age 37 (now 51) and just asked my GYN what I can to get rid of my "pouch". Her answer, (1) plastic surgery or (2) starve myself. I wish there was more education helping women with hysterectomies at young ages and how to cope mentally and physically. I have a pouch under my belly button. So many people think it is from having children and sadly I did not.
For anyone struggling with giving up chocolate. homemade healthier chocolate recipe: 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil 2 - 3 teaspoons pure cocoa powder 1/2 - 1 teaspoon maple syrup or raw honey (emphasis on raw honey, not processed) Optional: dash of cinnamon and/or cayenne pepper Whisk or stir ingredients. Pour into an ice tray and freeze for at least 10 - 15 minutes. Store in freezer or fridge. Chocolate will melt otherwise. This makes 3 or 4 chocolates depending on your ice tray. I usually double the recipe so I have enough for one chocolate per day for a week. I found this on another RUclips vlog and it has helped so much in overcoming sweet cravings. Just one after dinner tricks me into thinking I've had dessert and signals to my brain that I'm done eating for the night. It has healthy fats, good high chocolate content, a relatively small amount unrefined sugar, and plenty of flavor.
Even better - chocolate protein shake, and add an extra teaspoon on baking cocoa powder. Super chocolatey with no sugar. The stevia in the protein shake is enough to cover it. Cinnamon kicks it up a notch, too.
I’ll give this a try! I’ve been blessed with good genes and have been thin my whole life, even with my sweet tooth. Now I’m 47 and in peri menopause and have the dreaded muffin top and bloating. I’m struggling to kick the sugar habit. I conquered the soda habit and heavily reduced my sugar intake but it’s tough!!
i use this as my sweet treat, but i use cacao and coconut sugar, it has meant i have been able to happily live as a raw vegan for years. Sometimes i swap the cacao for ground mulberries (coffe grinder) if i fancy a change from choc but want something super sweet..this makes a raw fudge bar.
I'm sooooo tired of being Fat! I was losing weight (33lbs) just as menopause began and I immediately gain 15 plus lbs and and it's all in or around my belly. I've tried calorie counting, low fat, etc. diets and nothing has helped. I found your channel and I feel your information will help. Please keep the videos coming!
Intermittent fasting has been around a long, long time. Cybil Shephard did a magazine interview about it in the mid-1970s (and it wasn't new then). The other thing she did was just 10 minutes exercise, set exercise, each morning. I was very young, so the weight came off quickly, but this worked wonders for myself and friends. I rarely buy magazines, so the time and the person are set in my memory. The exercise were simple, like leg raises. Thanks for reinforcing this tip. I've since wondered if it would work again. I will start today. :)
I'm in there with you (also 5'3" and 9.5st) - however you need to be real honest with yourself - how much alcohol, sugar and take-away are you eating? I've got a 27" waist (size 10 clothes) but I train 3-4 times a week (trail running and hiking - since the gyms are closed / or only open for the double jabbed). I too could lose a stone if I was a real consistent eater - my vice is sweet sugary stuff - mainly chocolate a candies - the occasional biscuit and bread. But, I cook all my meals from fresh, eat moderately meat (no more than 3x/week chicken/fish - no bbq stuff, deli meats or sausages etc. ) and practice some sort of IF every now and then. Also training / working out is key. I started working out on a more or less consistent basis around 4yrs ago - since I've not lost any weight - but my figure changed completely. Good luck!
I started fasting for 12 hours from 6:30pm -6:30 am about a month ago after watching this video. . I have lost enough belly fat to move my belt 1 hole tighter. I don't weigh myself so I don't know if I've lost pounds but my clothes fit a lot better just in a month with just observing the 12 hour fast. Thanks for sharing this simple tip to better post -menopausal health .
I’ve been doing this with at least 30 minutes of exercise, three times a week and I’ve seen a different in two weeks. The scale hasn’t changed much but I’ve measured myself and I’ve lost inches.
Thank You so much.. so informative and makes so much sense. I'm forty-six and for the past four years the belly fat has grown. Now I understand why. I won't be so hard on myself now.
CInammom is one of the spices that is produced and exported from Sri Lanka which used to be called Ceylon. Hence the name Ceylon Cinammon. I used to chew Cinammon like gum while going to school when I was a kid in Ceylon.
I am passed menopause at 65 yrs. old, but I still find this information very helpful. I have been doing some of this stuff already. The fat coming off the stomach (middle and lower) is coming off extremely slowly, but it is coming off. I need to get better at consistency and adding in what I haven't been doing. Thank you for this very good information.
Hi Becky, I am 57 years old and watching my belly get larger. This was very easy to understand and informative. Thankyou for taking the time to help us. Love Nelly.
I need my estrogens back! I'm 55yrs old and living with menopause. Everything inside my body is threatening to go southwards. Diets are good including healthy meals. But exercising is important too, that's if one has the energy. Today's lifestyle is to blame also all the added chemicals and excess sugars added into our foods doesn't help. You need money to eat well in all honesty, but even then there are other factors outside our control at work! Life is too short to worry about this so eat and be happy and ignore trying to be perfect.
I went Ketogenic last August. I have lost 35 pounds. I am 62. I have gone from an XXL to an L tshirt. I have gone from 45 inches around my belly to 37. The Ketogenic way of eating WORKS!!!! And, I am still losing!
I fast 16 hours daily ,and do a 24 hour once a week , going to try for a 36 hour soon . Love how it makes me feel and losing weight like crazy, along with a keto diet
@@screamingeorge1 - I'm no expert but they say that one mistake many make is thinking they need more protein thinking its fat. In fact, is more fat that you need and that's different from protein. I think the Keto suggests 20% protein 60% fat 20% carbs.
My grandmother lived a long life she walked and danced. Her doctor put her on one beer or a glass of wine each night. She died at 97. She always felt bad until he recommended the beer or red wine each night.
@@sandymobandy I don’t remember the reason my grandmothers doctor told her to drink red wine at night, she lived to be 98. She never drank alcohol, smoked or drove a car in her entire life so it was very difficult for her to drink that wine but she did.
My neighbor is 97. She just eats small portions. And she enjoys every kind of food. She walks 10 minutes with a Walker everyday. Weighs 90 lbs...my mom lived to 95. She was vegan. Had high blood pressure and 2 cancers during her life. She also ran until she was 80. Then she walked a half hour twice a day.
I hate this. I’ve had a tiny waist my entire life. Now at age 52 I feel bloated all the time. My clothes still fit. I’ve been in post menopause for 2 years and blame the hormones I’ve been on. Done with them. Now to get my body back. Ugh. This too shall pass. Right!
Veronica Martin I don’t eat dairy, red meat, and avoid sugar and gluten for I am on an anti inflammatory diet for psoriasis. It keeps me thin it help in this situation as well. I don’t over indulge in alcohol like I used like a lot of my friends. It’s like my body doesn’t metabolize it like it used to. I am very active as well. So it’s a combination of all these thing. Good luck to you
I recently has an ultra sound to reveal ovarian cyst, am so bloated , heavy painful periods lasting 4 wks , waiting for blood test results , clothes don't fit & feel so uncomfortable.Have my wedding dress to get into in 2 months time ! Fed up is an understatement .
I'm turning 50 in November & up until a year ago, I was a size 4. I'm only 5feet tall so 5lbs equals a pant size for me. Over the past 2yrs, Ive slowly put on over 25lbs & none of my pants fit me. My thighs have never touched til now. Yes, I need to exercise more & reduce sugar from my diet, but I feel like I will never get my flat stomach back. I'm going to try though. I hate the feeling of my inner thighs touching. Menopause is awful. Still dealing w/hot flashes. Good luck to you. Thx!
Angela Jones - For yrs, I had ultra sounds for my ovarian cysts. My Dr was concerned and had me start taking a low estrogen birth control pill for 3 months to stop me from ovulating & to see if they would disappear. They did.
Moringa powder is great for PMS and menopause . It is all natural and packed with minerals such as iron and zinc and magnesium. It is all natural and helps with balancing the human body. Best used with water. Do place one teaspoon in a bottle of water and drink all at one time.
Oh thank you..finally know what is wrong with me..got misdiagnosed..got put on horrid phyce drugs..told I got depression..pstd..high anxiety..made me think I was nuts..the heat ..the sweats..just quit everything..joined gym..and now doing study..had no understanding from anyone .not even doctors..oh my..everyone abandoned me .which caused me so much stress .and was so hot and angry and tearful ..thought I had lost my mind
This is so important in the prevention of breast cancer. Obesity is a risk factor for the reasons you just stated. You may have had a hysterectomy and gone through menopause, but excess fat and estrogens put people at risk for the types of breast cancers that are estrogen sensitive. 8-10% of women may get breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. That means by the time a woman is 85, she has a 8-10% chance. ( and unfortunately the risk increases with age) there is good news: Loose weight, get healthy, eliminate risk factors and the blessing is the regulation of your body chemistry and hormones back in check. Thank you Dr.Becky. G.Jideofor R.T.R. (R)(M)
Excellent!!! I'm doing most of this and grew up eating under the time restriction or Intermittent fasting (before I even knew this was a thing). So it's good to know that I'm on the right track now that I'm 50. I've never had weight issues and I honestly still don't, but since menopause I have been experiencing the belly fat around my waist line, that's what I really wanting to focus on.
After watching this , I was happy to to know that I was already doing the things you mentioned 👍 . Healthy fats, never snack after dinner, love fruits , nuts, and veggies, I could almost be a vegetarian if it wasn’t for my husband. Most of all staying active. I’m 49 an weigh 127 lbs. woohoo 🥳
Wow wish I could say that. I take several medications for depression and aniexty. Are you on any medication? My medicine causes weight gain and tired feeling. I want to come off of medications but not good results the last couple of times. Well any helpful tips I would appreciate it Thanks.
Shayna Kennedy I’m sorry It took me so long to answer back.. I didn’t get notifications of your response. I do not take any medication not even Advil or ibprophen . I do not suffer from any anxiety. But I do have a sister who does. I try to keep giving her encouragement. I would never tell anyone to get off meds. Although I do believe these big Pharma drugs are created to keep us addicted to them. My sister tries to find a healthy replacement/ alternative to do a slow transition off of drugs to healthy diets and herbals and essential oils, and teas. The biggest thing that helps my positive mind body and spirit.. it my prayer time/ medication with God. Not sure if you are. Believer , but for me my faith, and personal relationships with God I what keeps me focused on positive thought, and how I balance my mind which in-turns balances my health. Our mind is a power force and can influence all things in our body. I also feel most of the food we get in the stores are meant to slowly poison us into this bad health. I try to eat only natural perishable foods. What I mean is.. no sit on a shelf for yrs full of preservatives, or a ingredients list longer than my arm lol. I cut out sugars , table salts , high sodium foods. And try to eat with the season. Certain foods grow at different season for a reason. The health benefits need for the time of season is important. Now a days we can grow hybrid food in green houses out of season , I try to follow how God Created things to be. I figured if he created it that way must be for a reason, I know I can’t begin to thing I have all the answers. It just a philosophy of life I have learned over time. I truly hope you can accomplish your goal of being medication free and be healthy. I will pray for you and your health. Bless you and keep positive focus. 😊
Connie H I do eat berries, but I have a high metabolism and I am very active so I need certain carbs in my body. My husband on the other hand carbs turn straight into sugar and fat. He went on a carb diet high protein.. so as most wives who do the shopping and cooking I did it to , to show support, not that I had a lot of carbs in my daily diet anyway, but I went along with him. And it had a bad affect on me. I lost more weight than I should, yes I know what women says she lost to much weight lol. But again I have never been over weight not even when I was pregnant. Always right where I should be. So J lost to much weight very very quickly and it actually cause problems with in my digestive system. So I introduced healthy carbs back into my daily diet and that balance me out. I don’t believe in one diet is for everyone.. there are so many different things with in our bodies that one diet isn’t effective for all. These are things we need to find out about our bodies before we start on any diet. And has we Women her older our hormones play a big role as well. I am going to have different needs and things going on in my body compared to my husband, to you, or even my sister. Balance is the key, every one needs to find how their bodies run and then work with in that. Thanks 🙏 have a great life.
A good keto "chocolate chip" recipe: 6 oz 100% baking chocoate, 6 oz coco butter, 1/3 C of Pyure sweetener (euyrithritol and stevia blend). Melt all 3 over a double boiler, pour onto a greased or parchment lined baking pan and refrigerate. Break into pieces when cooled.
I wish I had known this 10 years ago when I was going through menopause! I knew weight gain was likely, and over the years I put on maybe 20 pounds. Found out about time-restricted eating from my husband, who is T2D and HE found out about it through a focus group discussion on managing diabetes. Thinking I too might be getting insulin resistant, I started 16:8 IF, and have lost 8 pounds in two months. It's a sustainable lifestyle, and I'm hoping to lose all my "menopausal weight" in the next few months. Haven't noticed a decrease in belly fat yet, but there must be some because my pants fit better.
I am severely anemic...been this way for a couple of years. I’m finally getting serious about what I eat. I am so exhausted, unlike how I was before peri-menopause. It’s been hell. Thanks for making this video 🙏❤️
Oh thank you I feel isolated with illness and same always had flat tummy before uterus then both ovaries removed. Hate this flabby tummy. I think oestrogen lives in fat and that’s why we grow tummies.
Thank you! About the intermittent fasting. Testing my blood sugar showed my levels were never dropping. Then, I realized that even though I wasn't eating for several hours at a time, I was sipping coffee with sweetened almond milk in it all day. Took longer than it should have to realize that sipping the coffee was canceling the effects of not eating. Now I drink my coffee quickly, and have just water during the "fasting hours".
Thank you, this video was very helpful. I am 44 and had a stroke two months ago (my body's warning to change), and did almost immediately change my diet to nutritional ketosis with intermittent fasting. finally now (after a couple months) Feeling better than ever, fog is lifting, numbness in tingling in hands is going away. Everything you say is ringing true with me so I will watch other videos again thank you!
Glad to hear you are healing. My husband suffered from a severe one last fall. Have you ever heard about protecting your SCN clock from artificial blue light? If not, you might be interested in checking out the blog posts of Neurosurgeon Dr. Jack Kruse My husband and I both wear blue blocking glasses at night now and whenever we look at our phones or computer screens, TV, bright lights in stores, etc.
I make breakfast cookies from two bananas and a cup of oats. Adding a small handful of chocolate chips. These cookies have revolutionised my diet.... My cravings have gone completely and I no longer eat any other sugar, plus they keep me full until I have my main meal in the afternoon. if I want something sweet after dinner I'm perfectly happy having fruit. it may not seem like a lot but I was eating up to a bar of chocolate a day and could go through half a trifle in one sitting. Now this is pretty much the only form of sugar I eat other than a little fruit. I don't eat potatoes but do have a little rice, lots of vegetables and a little bit of meat. Xx
The lady in the video actually tells more about the title from min. 9. I decided to watch the video because the title describes what I am doing at the moment. Some time ago I saw a video entitled "intermittent fasting method" and that s what this lady is talking about too. So I knew that this thing was working. I put on some weight when I started eating at irregular hours during winter time, not paying attention what hour of day or night and so I had a few pounds to shed! And I can tell you that this method called "intermittent fasting" ,that the lady is also talking about from min.9, is really working! I actually started "starving my fat cells" as she calls it, some 2-3 weeks ago and since the summer is nearing here in Europe, I wanted it to be a bit more drastic method. So this is what I am doing: I have a good breakfast in the morning, and then good lunch with proteins and vegetables around 2,3pm and then NOTHING until the next morning :). And it works really well, I am not hungry at all. If I start thinking of munching in the evening, it s not that I feel hungry, but rather it s just a matter of habit after some hours of not eating...I make myself a tea instead, and that s it, then comes bed time and it is very doable I can tell you that! In 2 weeks, I lost 2.5 kg, and I have another 7 to loose still, to get to my perfect weight! I see a difference on my stomach already. I really do! And that s without any kind of depriving myself of food and almost no exercise, not more than usual. I eat whatever I like! Also the lady in the video did mention no sugary food etc. I do that too. I watched a BBC video on sugar as a poison a few months ago, and really stopped using added sugar. But I am no slave to any restrictions, I just dont eat chocolate, biscuits, candies and such, I never was much fan of that junk, but I did buy chocolate sometimes. (Now i make cocoa drinks). But when I feel like it, I buy myself a cake and whatever I want. But I do not crave it anymore. I find that it takes a little adjusting for a month or 2, I did crave it in the beginning and found it to be peculiar as I dont really have a sweet tooth, but someething in my stomach wanted sugar!! It s kind of addictive probably......Anyway I dont crave it now at all. And I find some cakes too sweet for my taste. :) Sugar is really bad. I find carrot is soo sweet, but healthy sweet :) and I appreciate it now much more than before. Nature already contains so much sugar :) So when I stopped eating added sugar, I found myself eating a lot of carrot and a lot of dates lol. But now I dont even crave that anymore. :) I guess I should make my own video lol. Sorry....talking too much. I just wanted to tell my experience. And I can confirm that the lady knows what she is talking about and the video is good to watch, but check those two topics I mentioned too as those two topics are very educational. I also drink a lot of kefir, fermented milk and probiotic drinks, to change a bit my gut flora, I often make flax seed drink (just like the lady in the video says) with cinnamon, even pumpkin seed in a kefir and drink it. Anyways, I feel great, and I eat well, I dont crave food and I feel full, I dont feel like starving myself at all! Maybe I am looking forward to my breakfast when I go to sleep lol, but I am not tempted to eat before bed AT ALL. You just need to find your own "no food window", but not starving yourself, just eat for example 2 meals per day and decide whichever time of day suits you to have that big no food window. As simple as that! :) WHen I have shed my extra pounds, I ll probably return to 3 meals a day, but will pay attention to eat the last meal some hours before bed time. :)
Thank you for this video. Fighting off the menopot has been a slow, painful struggle for me. I entered full blown menopause at 52 and my pancreas went into sleep mode and stopped processing of any refined sugars or grains. I developed gas, bloating, constipation and an unbudgeable spare tire and 10 extra pounds that refuse to leave even with strict calorie counting and intense exercise and weight training. Although my fasting glucose hovered between 85-95, this was 10 points higher than my premenopausal FBS. Determined to at least get healthy (if not return to my 25 inch waist----now 27 1/2"), I have cut out all grains and sugars. I did that almost a month ago. I have improved energy and my fasting glucose is now 79. Haven't weighed myself but I have lost 1/4" in my waist....better than nothing I guess. I expected more but at my age, I guess it comes slowly.
Hi Gina, thanks for your comment! It sounds like you've done some good investigating and came up with a solution that put you on the right path. I have a video on what to eat after cutting carbs (i.e. grains and sugar) that might be helpful: ruclips.net/video/LN3pYh4rTH0/видео.html
I ran across your video on you tube and I know it’s been 4 years since you posted it but this has helped me so much..... JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU because I was so down on myself and discouraged
Such an important topic. I've been struggling with early menopause and gaining weight. The only thing that helped me is stress. I'm almost back to my original weight. Starving does help and is healthy.
Being a personal trainer myself I am well familiar with all those rules about eating healthy and avoid refined sugars and proceseed food. This apply to everybody whom would like to look after themselves like staying fit and healthy or simply about superficial appearances. This prolong your good quality life. Not only for women going through menopause! Nicely explained. Love this video! Thank you.
I used to be super skinny. All my life I could just eat whatever and be fine and stayed at 128lbs. It's not like I ate junk or over ate. I just ate healthy at meal time and ate until I felt naturally full. I didn't have to exercise any specific amount of time to burn fat. But when I entered my 40s I found out that I went in to early menopause. In a year and half I gained 25lbs out of no where. I was not over eating or eating high fat or carbs. I was not eating late at night. I was not eating sugar foods. These days I am hovering at 155lbs. I have tried intermittent fasting in that I eat 10am until 4pm and fast after until the next day at 10am. I have cut out breads even and the whites. But nonetheless I cannot drop the weigh. I even went vegan/pescatalian. My cholesterol has gone up and BP too. I have had my labs done and nothing wrong with my thyroid. I simply got fat. I could eat nothing and still gain weight. I now have a double chin, big boobs, wide hips and tons of belly fat. I am beyond frustrated. It's like my metabolism just came to a screeching halt. I just don't know what to do for myself. Very depressing, but I am learning to cope.
Hello Karen dear just read your coment Me too same I’m in full wake menopause I started menopause at 35 after my 5 baby I’m so fed up with it I could never shift it off Dr put me on HRT . But I’m really sad about my body weight
Go full-on healthy fat, (keto diet)! The belly goes away, the brain feels clearer than ever, and your energy will also be stronger! I thought that was all hype until I finally tried it for myself! It's amazing!
I was on Keto for 3 years. It's hard to stick with because of socializing but I lost 15 pounds in less than a month and as long as I was in ketosis, I kept if off. Brain clarity is amazing, unlike anything else I've ever done, energy was great. I just had too hard a time staying in ketosis, but it's amazing if you can do it.
I find the 16/8 fast works much better, eating between the hours of 11am to 7pm and water fasting through the night. Water helps to keep you hydrated, blood pressure regulated and flushes any toxins out during your fasting period. I also find plant based eating the most effective way to keep the fat off. Vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes etc, it's all good. 👍
I have been doing 15/9 for 7 months, belly slim, but hungry from time to time for no particular reason. Have lost 25 pounds in the first 4 months, still have it off by following Intermittent Fasting
@Li Z H, it is really easy and can be tailored to any schedule or set of hours. It's called Intermittent Fasting. There are some really good vids on youtube, check them out, start and watch the pounds fall away
I am 3 1/2 yrs. post menstrual cycles, and peri-menopausal symptoms started about 5 yrs. prior to that. I will be 59 this year. - I am still having hot flashes, sweats, and loosing hair, and lots of other issues...................... IT NEVER ENDS!!!
im so glad i found this, i dont feel so alone anymore. i have always had what an hour glass shape. and then had my gall bladder removed and started noticing my belly getting bigger, and rolls which ive never had, alot of bloating and soooooooo uncomfortable in my own skin. no one understood. i blamed everything on the surgery. even tho had to come out. lol. i had my hormones checked recently and was just told by my obgyn im in menopause. i found dr becky and wowwwwwwww i feel im not so crazy anymore and feel theres hope to getting some what of my shape back. so much information and so clearly explained. and reading all the comments i know that theres alot of us struggling with the same issues. it sucks , really does. but ima give it all i got. Every woman should be advised that it's the carbs and sugar in diet that causes hot flushes. I discovered it by accident after starting keto diet and then whenever I slipped and had carbs the hot flushes came back along with joint pain as well. Doctors should know about this and tell patients instead of medicating with dubious hormonal treatments first.
Absolutely! I have the worst hot flashes and also weird brain thoughts while I'm trying to fall back to sleep if I have a lot of sugar in the previous days. I also learned from an acupuncturist to stay away from the meat from young animals like lamb. That also can trigger hot flashes because the Ying and yang of certain foods.
@@kaymuldoon3575 Fasting 16/8 is not a problem losing electrolytes just drink plenty of water. If you were fasting 3 days or so that would be different. 16/8 and you're fine !
“What a lovely woman!” is what I kept thinking throughout watching this video. I was already aware of some of her tips, except the 12 hr window of eating/fasting. I wonder if she can post a video regarding weight loss for ppl who experienced physical trauma and turned to food for comfort and became less active as a result of physical injuries.
Physical trauma is never discussed in any video about weight loss....I would love it! I went from eating whatever and being very thin to all my muscles turning into fat and having to cut what I eat by more than half. I can still nearly walk almost ten years later.
I think if you turn to food for comfort then the strategy is meditation which leads to mindful eating and only keeping high water/ fibrous foods as snacks.
Time restricted eating...aka intermittent fasting, I started with a 14/10 worked up to 20/4, 2-3x week. My decades-long back pain disappeared 5 weeks in! No longer need afternoon naps!
Hello I'm 53 and have found this eating method through trial and error but found not eating from 5pm until 12 midday the following day works for me. I also do 1.5 hours aerobic exercise 3 times a week and 30 minutes exercise strength daily. I've lost 10kg and my belly fat has gone. Now weigh 63kg but my target is to loose another 5 kg. I eat mostly salads but have a small carb with it. No bread but I do have the occasional pasta! I drink alcohol weekends only but again in moderation. You only live once so you have to have a small treat. I love chocolat but eat a small amount say 1/2 a bar weekly. Uk size 10 USA size 8.
Leslie Wright I get up at 6.30 am during the week so do my 30 minutes strength exercise around 7.30 am after the children have gone to school. The 1.5 hr sessions are with a group of women of a similar age or older again in the morning.
MrsBlack. I've had massive hot flashes for over 10 years, tried diet and herbal, nothing gave me relief unti almost a year ago when I found Macca ( a root) it totally elimated the day & night sweats..I don't get them anymore unless I forget to take it..you can find it online
I starve just to maintain my weight now, I admit I was not careful but I gained 22 kg in 1 yr, my menopause was parallel to a very stressful and heartbreaking event in my life and I wasn't careful about my weight but now I need to loose this weight, I've lost myself in whole. Plus I'm 41.
It's a change of lifestyle after 55..yes it creeps up so going keto will definitely help believe me.. Be patient though it's a bumpy transition depending on how your diet has been.. You'll get there with time , experimenting and Patience!! No one can tell you your balance but you'll find it
I agree with all of these recommendations except for the alcohol. Any medical doctor will tell you that technically, no amount of alcohol is “safe“. Eliminating alcohol completely is a great way to eliminate extra calories and clear toxins from your body. Alcohol is ethanol which is what is used for jet fuel.
Yep - fully agree with you. I drink on special occasions - like birthdays or once every once in while on a afternoon out with my girlfriends.. but seriously - I don't think I have 10 drinks a year..
What a sensible, informative and practical advice video! I also have a stubborn belly that refuses to go away, but all of what you advice is do-able and easy to implement. Thank you!
Fist no nonsense, uncomplicated, explanation of what is happening to my body. I am beginning to understand so can take steps to improve my health. Thankyou
Thank you Dr. Gillaspy for your video.I have been following all of your suggestions for 8 years now. Although considered post-menopausal, I have to be vigilant with carbs. I eliminated sugar ( through JJ Virgins program) began TRE eating ( Dr. Sachen Panda's Circadian Diet) and do not drink any alcohol, (which is just empty useless calories). I still have the belly pooch. My real treat used to be 85% chocolate. But then I would eat more and more until I found it to be a problem so gave that up to, at least until I get this pooch under control. So recently I decided to eliminate most excess carbs. Like only eating quinoa once a day, more green salads, limited nuts. It seems to be working, oh and also burst exercise, which really is a benefit for joints and flexibility. I do not eat processed foods, or artificial sweeteners, esp, aspartame ( evil!). I did try stevia and xylitol but that was almost as bad for creating more sweet cravings. And the sugar alcohol gave my bladder distress. So I just went cold turkey without added sugar to coffee and tea. I do believe we can adapt to most things, esp. no added sugar. Now I drink coffee w/o sugar. It's fine since I switched to whole milk. It seems to satisfy by sugar need since there is a pretty good amount of sugar in the milk ( not half and half, not sweet enough). Also good reading is anything pertaining to the microbiome. You didn't touch on this but I feel from what I have read that the new trend in fighting disease is correcting our gut bacteria, or lack of. I appreciate your advise and agree with all except the alcohol comment. I feel it a disservice to anyone who might be tempted to use such statements as a pass for moderation, esp. if they cannot drink safely. Someone might say, see, the Dr. told me to drink... I still am not inclined to believe alcohol to be good in any way for the body.
I've tried to tell my friends that fat free means high carbs/sugar. Fat for older women has to be good. Moisturize skin, hair, intestines and I've heard it is good for inflammation too. Not just joint, but all over (heart, etc...)
Nothing new here. Been doing this all my life apart from the alcohol. VERY surprised you suggested that one. Intermittent fasting for 12 hours -- basically that's sleeping. Breakfast means "Break the Fast". Personally I have put on and taken off the same 5 pounds since my teens. Menopause hasn't made any difference.
Thank you so much for this video , just beginning this fabulous journey of menopause 💁🏻 and the belly pooch cannot stay !! Thankful for ladies like you who can share insightful information as we navigate menopause .
I agree . All the crap that you are going be full of life after absolute rubbish . Women suffer witb symptoms way after menopause .stop giving people false hope.
@@cherylheath8465 I'm post menopausal for 1.5 years, I'm almost 55 and I don't suffer from any menopause symptoms. I actually feel amazing. I've done keto almost 3 years and I do intermittent fasting. I always do an extended fast at least once a month, 48 to 72 hours. I seriously feel like I'm in my 20's again.
I actually fast every day from around 10.00pm until around 5.00 pm the next day only drinking lots of fluids and I’ve lost over 3st(45lb) I can’t exercise due to poor physical health but my brain seems less foggier and I’m walking a lot better,, Spiritually I’m doing really well aswell 👌 I’m 61 years old 👌
I am turning 57 in November and I weigh 99-100 lbs. My measurements are 36,23,35. I have never liked the taste of alcohol so I never drink, I guess that helps, also chocolate doesn't attract my attention so much. Stevia is somewhat safer than any other sweeteners. I also consume Ceylon cinnamon after meals, Ceylon cinnamon has the least amount of coumarin, a harmful compound found in cinnamon. I take 2 to 3 tablespoons of organic, cold-pressed coconut oil every day, as well as a half avocado almost every day and organic nuts, but just a few, because of the high-calorie content.I workout every day and engage in intermittent fasting almost every day, or every other day and I also stay hydrated.
Good information. However very frustrating. I am a picky eater. My husband and son get to eat whatever they want. Sometimes I feel like either way I lose, not happy or satisfied with what I eat or no weight loss. I do yoga everyday and try to eat healthy when I can.
IXNAY on daily alcohol! Alcohol is converted right away to sugar by the liver. Empty calories. I think you may want to look at who funded that particular study.
I started with menopause symtoms about a month ago, I'm 53. I'm averaging between 3-4 hours (before menopause 6-7 hours) sleep due to night sweats. Experiencing hot & cold flashes, mood swings and Stomach weight gain. I've had a history of elevated coritsol in the past. I've been doing Weight Watchers since 2008 and have never reached goal. I am approx 27 pounds away from being at a healthy BMI.
Both this channel of yours Dr Becky & the “2 Fit Docs” channel; with you & your husband Dr Keith, are a REAL BLESSING! SO VERY thankful for both of you!!!! SO SO very thankful INDEED!!!! 💕💕💕
I am 54 and have a been a raw vegan for 5 years, previously vegan for most of my life..i became raw to try and help with perimenopause health issues using detox juicing and as much intuition as i could muster through the meno haze!..despite this about a year ago i put on belly fat which was very uncomfortable as i have always been a pear, i cut down my excessive sweet treats of too much cacao puds, nut butters and joined a gym, first time in my life never been a fan before..I love it, i go 3 times a week do weights and cardio for averagely 1.5 hours and run 20 mins on the days in between, the belly fat has gone and i feel fitter that ever..actually i would attribute the menopause to leading me to this physical fitness path which i cant believe i didn't take up sooner...my best tip..drink lemon water everyday!
I was expecting weight gain, but I had NO idea I was going to go from a fairly thin pear to an apple. For the first time in my life, I can't keep my pants up because I have no waist! I'm also extremely uncomfortable when I'm sitting and my waistband is digging into me, making it hard to breathe. Lord help me, my entire wardrobe is changing to jersey "lounging pants" with drawstring waistbands, and I can't keep those up, either! But at least it's more comfortable to sit in them. I wish I'd known sooner that this is what was going to happen. It totally crept up on me.
Have you considered going vegan-or at least cutting out the dairy, so that you'll be getting fewer hormones? Hormones give you both mood and weight swings.
Actually, the hormone level is minimal and has no effect. And menopause reduces your estrogen levels, which is the cause of weight gain in many women. I'm not knocking dairy-free, but I am disputing that particular reason.

Thanks, keep it simple no more sugar, sleep well, meditate to release stress, low impact exercise, interval eating and keep being grateful and decisive for a better & greater you. 💚
Very well said. Thank you!
Avoid processed food
2. Eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, healthy fats (nuts and seeds, avocados)
3. Extras to add to diet - Ceylon cinnamon, 70% or higher cocoa chocolate, one drink a day (12oz beer, 5oz wine or 1.5oz hard drink)
4. Time restricted eating - 12hr to eat and 12hr to rest.
Thank you!

Good for you!!!! Keep it up!!! Hopefully this will work for me too.
What you should eat
been doing exactly that for 8 months now with no change. discouraged after such radical switch ups. looking for more tips
My depression is real and I hate looking at myself at times. I hold everything now at 52.
So many ppl underestimate the power of weights / weight lifting. It should be screamed from ever roof! Good luck on your journey!
So many people think it is from having children and sadly I did not.
same here had total hysterectomy at age 35. and even if i starve myself and exercise everyday my belly fat wont turn to muscle
For anyone struggling with giving up chocolate.
homemade healthier chocolate recipe:
1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
2 - 3 teaspoons pure cocoa powder
1/2 - 1 teaspoon maple syrup or raw honey (emphasis on raw honey, not processed)
Optional: dash of cinnamon and/or cayenne pepper
Whisk or stir ingredients.
Sounds delicious! I'm going to try!

It's a sad day when your stomach is roughly the same measurement as your bust , the thing is I'm only 10 stone 5 foot 3 , dam this menopause 😥😥
It will get better. You have to make changes.
Totally relate
I think we have to start by loving what we got. Hard for me
Right there with you
Well hon, I'm builtike a guy , big gut no butt(flat) bust, waist and hips yep pretty much same size! Im a real attractive one🤢
I too could lose a stone if I was a real consistent eater - my vice is sweet sugary stuff - mainly
chocolate a candies - the occasional biscuit and bread.
Good luck!
I'm 5.3 & nearly 11.5 stone, I remember when I was "only" 10 stone!
You’re my new obsession. I have been on this new journey since July and you are making it even easier.
CInammom is one of the spices that is produced and exported from Sri Lanka which used to be called Ceylon. Hence the name Ceylon Cinammon. I used to chew Cinammon like gum while going to school when I was a kid in Ceylon.
Ummmm. Cinnamon makes me have a hot flash
Swimming, breast stroke, is a great exercise for helping to flatten the stomach.
I would also add HIIT workouts!

Do you know the reason the Dr. recommended that?
@@sandymobandy I don’t remember the reason my grandmothers doctor told her to drink red wine at night, she lived to be 98. She never drank alcohol, smoked or drove a car in her entire life so it was very difficult for her to drink that wine but she did.

I do eat berries, but I have a high metabolism and I am very active so I need certain carbs in my body.
Hi what is 16:8?
16 hours fasting, 8 hour feeding window.
I am severely anemic...been this way for a couple of years. I’m finally getting serious about what I eat. I am so exhausted, unlike how I was before peri-menopause. It’s been hell. Thanks for making this video 🙏❤️
I'm anemic too. I try eat oysters and some time supplements... Good luck
I’m almost 40 and really noticed how hard it’s getting to keep fat off my stomach
Thank you for the tips
This is one of the more intelligent and useful weight control videos I have seen. Bravo. I'm a subscriber.
I just stopped eating processed foods. ❤
Is sipping black coffee and or tea bad for fasting?
@@Kim-ri1hg Coffee triggers stress hormones, which spikes blood sugar. It's probably best to not drink it at all.
@@Kim-ri1hgNo, but if you have loads of fat and sweeteners in it it can interrupt your fasting.
I did do this 12 hours fasting as well as cutting out sugar and carbs for 30 days at first. it did work for me!
Great to hear, Toni!
Wow, I am so happy you are able to start over from a stroke at such a young age, good job.

So this is what I am doing:
I have a good breakfast in the morning, and then good lunch with proteins and vegetables around 2,3pm and then NOTHING until the next morning :).
I guess I should make my own video lol.
WHen I have shed my extra pounds, I ll probably return to 3 meals a day, but will pay attention to eat the last meal some hours before bed time. :)
I agree with you it's easier for me not to eat dinner than not to eat breakfast.
Arc Kocsog How has stress helped you?
Being a personal trainer myself I am well familiar with all those rules about eating healthy and avoid refined sugars and proceseed food. This apply to everybody whom would like to look after themselves like staying fit and healthy or simply about superficial appearances. This prolong your good quality life. Not only for women going through menopause! Nicely explained. Love this video! Thank you.
I'm watching June 2020, and Dr Becky looks a lot younger in her current videos.!
The 12 hour fasting really does help. I noticed it even before watching this video.
This is the only video that makes sense. everybody else keep talking about low fats
Hello Karen dear just read your coment
Me too same
I’m in full wake menopause I started menopause at 35 after my 5 baby
I’m so fed up with it I could never shift it off
Dr put me on HRT .
But I’m really sad about my body weight
Try opening your window of fasting a little at a time.
I follow a woman on Utube , her site is called " 6 miles to supper" she has been a great help
I can relate.
@@margaretbarclay7079 Thanks for the info
yes , I can relate. Try Keto. Keto helped little bid. I lost weight but not huge amount. still beter than nothing.
add some sea salt in your water, (just a little) this way you fast better, keeping trace minerals and avoiding laggy feeling. check into it.
I have been doing 15/9 for 7 months, belly slim, but hungry from time to time for no particular reason. Have lost 25 pounds in the first 4 months, still have it off by following Intermittent Fasting
I work night shift. How does this work?
@Li Z H, it is really easy and can be tailored to any schedule or set of hours. It's called Intermittent Fasting. There are some really good vids on youtube, check them out, start and watch the pounds fall away
@@loranabrabster3078 It's ok to fast while sitting at a desk. Try working a busy ER.

Thank God I found you! I have gained so much weight due to pre-men.
Hi +Gina Mascetti, I'm happy you're here!
One thing that stopped my hot flashes by 99% was eliminating sugar and flour out of my diet sounds crazy but it work
Hi A.B.D., there are some links between diet and hot flash relief. I discussed it in this video: ruclips.net/video/qwlsbNP3Md8/видео.html
A. B.D. Are you serious I’ll try eliminating sugar and flour
I did a keto type diet with intermittent fasting and found the same as you. My hot flushes are now virtually non existant. 😁
I do Intermittent Fasting 16/8 every single day. I also work out 3 mornings in a week in a fasted state. It attacks belly fat it works !

Not sure what you are talking about but it is Intermittent not "in"
Any advice on how to not lose electrolytes while fasting?
@@kaymuldoon3575 Fasting 16/8 is not a problem losing electrolytes just drink plenty of water. If you were fasting 3 days or so that would be different. 16/8 and you're fine !
Beer & chocolate??? I’m a medical researcher, and that’s a huge no-no. Especially in menopause, as it also increases your risk of breast cancer. Smh.
Thank you for this correction. I agree on 1, no beer.
Linda F. So are you saying you never have it she's not telling you to eat it all the time she said if you're dying to have it have some but not a lot
I can totally confirm that eating a small piece of 85% chocolate keeps the metabolism and weight under control.
Time restricted eating...aka intermittent fasting, I started with a 14/10 worked up to 20/4, 2-3x week. My decades-long back pain disappeared 5 weeks in! No longer need afternoon naps!
@Marilyn Millions Water, tea, coffee..no sweetener, I cheat with a teaspoon of half and half in my coffee.
Best video I have seen for older women to date. This was so well done I love it.
Yes its nice to hear someone make alot of sense
Finally...sound advice for those of us who are battling menopausal belly fat.

You're welcome, LindyLou 3! Thanks for your comment!
Dede Vaughn what are you talking about, I'm 68 my belly fat is a problem
Diana Vazquez: She means HEALTHY fats, not fat from junk food!
Your explanation of what happens to women as they hit menopause and fat around the middle is the best one I've heard....thankyou
Thank you for this. I've been struggling to figure out what to do. I will try these tips.

Wao for your age. O my God, I am challenged.
I was going to throw away all my trousers & replace with elasticated waistbands, but I'll try this first - thanks ☺️
Agree with you,she really is talking nonsense. She said don't eat diet food, raw carrots and green stuff.

I feel the SAME way...its awful..I lost 8 pounds the first few days of intermittent fasting...so we'll see...wish you the best..

OMG enough with the vegan pushing. You're all like a damned cult! I think Scientologists might just be a tiny bit less annoying
Actually, the hormone level is minimal and has no effect. And menopause reduces your estrogen levels, which is the cause of weight gain in many women. I'm not knocking dairy-free, but I am disputing that particular reason.

I couldn’t do the alcohol daily. I just don’t have the taste for it daily. Everything else very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you very much. Great information. I was so lost on what to eat. I've never been heavy. I feel awful in so many ways
I have hope.
Good luck and please don't give up. Do not lose your sense of self worth.
