I am not a big book reader but I did love the hobbit movie. Can you please explain to me what the difference between the book and the movie version of this song
I am a girl, but I have sung all the parts from tenor to 1st soprano... my friends and I want to sing bass so bad! If only... (tenor is pretty dope though)
@ Annas R Zulficar You've hit upon what seems to be a glaring logical fallacy at the heart of the "no judgement" sentiment, at least the simplistic form which is most frequently presented. But first, I loved the video. :) Really dig this song and it was great to see the singers apparently enjoying the acoustics as they sung. Some songs seem particularly capable of touching on something primal inside. Something hard to put to words. This song does that for me. :) Now, having "judged" the video and its featured performers, some thoughts on the "no judgement" ideology. The idea clearly sounds great and gives us the same warm fuzzies we might get from any ideology that promises to liberate us from social obligations or pressures, but crumbles under its own weight the moment you give it a second look. If it is "right" not to "judge", then you've judged it as right, and by doing so failed to walk out the virtue you're signaling. Pointing at anyone "doing their own thing" and declaring it "good" is making a judgement. It doesn't take much to gauge whether someone professing this idea has given it much thought beyond the warm fuzzies. To draw an example from current events, you might ask such a person what their views of the last few presidents were, and if they would proudly stand next to each of them on television and demand people stop "judging" them because, after all, they were just doing what they wanted. Living their "best life" and so forth. Its about that time you're likely to encounter a sudden and dramatic shift AWAY from the celebrated simplicity of the "don't judge" position into a complex world of exceptions, addendums, and rules by which to - ironically - judge whether you should judge or not judge. That, or you may just come under direct, personal attack in a dizzying display of irony that somehow completely escapes your assailants. That last one is a real kicker in terms of self awareness or the lack thereof. It seems increasingly common for individuals to, in one breath, celebrate and applaud their abstention from judging others and, in the very next breath, decry and denounce (judge) those who do not conform to their stated ideology. The depth of hypocrisy on display in those moments really is staggering. This sort of exchange is far too common and, in a very real sense, tragic given that it can obscure and discourage an otherwise fascinating and - I'd argue - essential discussion. The question is not whether to judge, but HOW to judge wisely. Where do our standards and values come from? And to what extent should we encourage one another to participate in active discourse about these essential matters, even at the risk of heated and passionate disagreement? Do we, as individuals or corporately as civilizations, have a "right" to impose our standards and values on others? If no, how do we establish and uphold any common ethical or moral code of conduct? If yes, on what basis do we JUDGE what is right and wrong? I don't think virtue is ultimately exemplified by the absence of values or standards. The better path seems to involve a careful regard for how we've arrived at those values and how we live out and express them through our interactions with other people. Surely we don't accomplish anything of value by pretending or claiming not to make judgments at all. Entirely my opinion, affirmed or decried as it may be. I welcome other thoughts and, yes, even judgements on the matter.

Lyrics: Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold To Dungeons Deep And Caverns Old We Must Away, Ere Break Of Day To Find Our Long Forgotten Gold The Pines Were Roaring On The Heights The Wind Was Moaning In The Night The Fire Was Red, It Flaming Spread The Trees Like Torches Blazed With Light The Wound Was On The Withered Heath But In The Forest Stirred No Leaf There Shadows Lay Be Night Or Day And Dark Things Silent Crept Beneath The Dwarves Of Yore Made Mighty Spells While Hammers Fell Like Ringing Bells In Places Deep, Where Dark Things Sleep In Hollow Halls Beneath The Fells With Foes Ahead, Behind Us Dread Beneath The Sky Shall Be Our Bed Until At Last Our Toil Be Passed Our Journey Done, Our Errand Sped We Must Away! We Must Away! We Ride Before The Break Of Day!
Fun fact, the verse "the wind was on the withered heath..." actually was the start of its own song later in the hobbit. I believe it was something like this: (not completely accurate because I don't remember perfectly.) The wind was on the withered heath, but in the forest stirred no leaf, there shadows lay by night and day, and dark things silent crept beneath. The wind came down from mountains cold and like a tide it roared and rolled, the branches groaned, the forest moaned, and leaves were layed upon the mold. The wind went on from west to east all movement in the forest ceased shrill and harsh across the marsh its whistling voices were released. It passed the lonely mountain bare and swept above the dragon lair, there black and dark lay boulders stark, and flying smoke was in the air.
What you guys are thinking of is called Gregorian Chanting. It's amazing, and the cornerstone of all Roman catholic and or epic genre music. If you look up "Crusaders" off of the Kingdom of Heaven OST, its women singing so it's high not deep, but it's got the same type of chanting going on
It’s beautiful but if these guys walked in my room at 12:01am....YeS that exact time I would probably freak out one because I don’t know who the heck these guys are and two ThEir vOiCeS bE fReAkY

@@Djolicoeur012 you want a girl who sounds like an elch? Watch Arch Enemy, after you heard one of those songs there should not be any questions, pefsonally i prefer male vocalists, in my opinion they fit better to death and black metal but on any other metal genre they fit as equally as male, for example, Ylva Eriksson from Brothers of Metal, really like her voice
@Porcia K Stop denying biological differences. Yes, training can do wonders, but on average men have the advantage in the lower register and women in the higher. Even a quick Google search about male and female voice differences will tell you: "An adult woman's average range is from 165 to 255 Hz, while a man's is 85 to 155 Hz." "Men's voices are generally deeper because the surge of testosterone released during puberty causes their vocal cords to elongate and thicken." On top of that, size of your throat and mouth will also affect it in subtle ways, and men usually are larger. Stop ignoring biological differences just so you can sound more "woke" and "unprejudiced."
Love how people naturally gesticulate when they sing; physically reaching for the low notes and carrying up the highs, swaying hands to punctuate the rhythm. That it's acapella is even more satisfying :)
Singing is all muscles so swaying around/moving really helps, although the handwaving thing is more a mental thing. still, it helps. I was taught to spin my hands like a windmill to keep airflow on longer notes

I’ve noticed a lot of the basses I know look a little surprising too, I love an unexpected vocal range
Due to how vocal folds work, this is actually pretty normal! , from what I remember of my choir class

Hello again Ray Mak
Lyrics:
Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold
To Dungeons Deep And Caverns Old
We Must Away, Ere Break Of Day
To Find Our Long Forgotten Gold
The Pines Were Roaring On The Heights
The Wind Was Moaning In The Night
The Fire Was Red, It Flaming Spread
The Trees Like Torches Blazed With Light
The Wound Was On The Withered Heath
But In The Forest Stirred No Leaf
There Shadows Lay Be Night Or Day
And Dark Things Silent Crept Beneath
The Dwarves Of Yore Made Mighty Spells
While Hammers Fell Like Ringing Bells
In Places Deep, Where Dark Things Sleep
In Hollow Halls Beneath The Fells
With Foes Ahead, Behind Us Dread
Beneath The Sky Shall Be Our Bed
Until At Last Our Toil Be Passed
Our Journey Done, Our Errand Sped
We Must Away! We Must Away!
We Ride Before The Break Of Day!

Seeing this comment:
OK, time to watch the video again
Fun fact, the verse "the wind was on the withered heath..." actually was the start of its own song later in the hobbit.
I believe it was something like this: (not completely accurate because I don't remember perfectly.)
The wind was on the withered heath, but in the forest stirred no leaf, there shadows lay by night and day, and dark things silent crept beneath.
Thank youuu
This sounds like something you would find in a movie about the Roman Empire

@@Hihihihihihi147 lmao I thought that was some weird metaphor you were saying
What you guys are thinking of is called Gregorian Chanting. It's amazing, and the cornerstone of all Roman catholic and or epic genre music.
If you look up "Crusaders" off of the Kingdom of Heaven OST, its women singing so it's high not deep, but it's got the same type of chanting going on
Wow this is beautiful. I love this song so much and your voices do it justice. The very slight echo in the tunnel just adds to it

you know that its just vocal cord magic? u can learn this if u aint a girl
@@snakezmaestro women and men share similar vocal ranges after puberty. Your throat is a muscle... just takes training and practice.
@@wolfinthewheatfields3224 show me girls singing that low
@@Djolicoeur012 you want a girl who sounds like an elch? Watch Arch Enemy, after you heard one of those songs there should not be any questions, pefsonally i prefer male vocalists, in my opinion they fit better to death and black metal but on any other metal genre they fit as equally as male, for example, Ylva Eriksson from Brothers of Metal, really like her voice
@Porcia K Stop denying biological differences. Yes, training can do wonders, but on average men have the advantage in the lower register and women in the higher. Even a quick Google search about male and female voice differences will tell you:
"An adult woman's average range is from 165 to 255 Hz, while a man's is 85 to 155 Hz."
"Men's voices are generally deeper because the surge of testosterone released during puberty causes their vocal cords to elongate and thicken."
On top of that, size of your throat and mouth will also affect it in subtle ways, and men usually are larger.
Stop ignoring biological differences just so you can sound more "woke" and "unprejudiced."
Love how people naturally gesticulate when they sing; physically reaching for the low notes and carrying up the highs, swaying hands to punctuate the rhythm. That it's acapella is even more satisfying :)
the amount of comments we've gotten about people hating on our hand movements LOL
@@mistytrio That sucks to hear. It just feels so authentic to see it! Do what you like, you sound great regardless!
Our teacher wanted us to do it to help us do the high notes in our 7th grade choir
Singing is all muscles so swaying around/moving really helps, although the handwaving thing is more a mental thing. still, it helps. I was taught to spin my hands like a windmill to keep airflow on longer notes
When singing or playing ensemble you have to do your own conducting
