Tip: If you have a character you want to build with high luck -That's the character you want to give lockpicking. You get 'lucky' rolls when looting containers, and you get more loot if that triggers. Since this character opens up the most containers, you get a lot more loot. Give Lucia the 'find more ammo perk' and suddenly, you don't [or hardly] run out of everything anymore. I prefer this on my sniper for the mega-crits.
Nice guide, but just a small correction: regardless of your Survival rating, you WILL still have the random encounters show up, and then you will have the option to use your survival skill to avoid it. It doesn't passively ignore randoms. So you can pick and choose which ones you want to engage in (if any).

Just a quick thing I wanted to throw out there, low speed on a big gun user isn’t the end of the world. There is a perk early on in big guys called Move Up. It gives you .5 combat movement (roughly 5ish points of speed worth) on the first turn of combat. It isn’t a full replacement for speed, but it can allow you to shuffle points around on a heavy gunner.
I made one of my character a diplomat type with barter, kiss ass etc. that kind of support skills. and turns out your first mission is to wipe out a whole army of raiders with no intent of negotiation...
First time playing a wasteland game. And i made a monk as my main character cause baldurs gate and he is completely overpowered in every way. Full tank. tons of damage and actions in a turn. With a nice sniper to back him up. Worked out great so far

Great guide! I went in straight up blind and got pretty annihilated, gonna restart with more logical stats, as I kind of just used my roleplaying gut when picking at the start =P
Word of advice: Create characters at your base who specialize in armor and weapon modding, barter and toaster repair. *DO NOT* put these on your normal characters cuz it'll take points way from where they should be focused, like combat. If you find a toaster in the world you can always come back with your toaster character. If you need to mod your weapons and armor you can just head back to HQ. You have no inventory limits so you can wait until you get back to base and sell stuff at your armory. You shouldn't sacrifice your combat efficiency in order to use these perks. Create specialists for that.
I kind of wish there was an early healing skill. I tried doing a sort of play on the whole Old man protecting his young ward trope making an old looking first aid focused character and Younger guns focused character. Unfortunately The beginning seems to assume you have some combat skills on both characters
I used "First aid" to help leveling up my main character, its perfect for that purpose, you can get lots of healing stuff in the game and there is always someone in your team to heal.
this an old video, but some things were changed since then. paladin background now gives +15% crit resistance and a boost to the range of your leadership influences. obviously, you would want to put this on your leadership character. also, crit resistance is really subtle, but it's also powerful. if you have crit resistance and an enemy crits you, the resistance is a chance to reduce that damage to zero. although, i do agree, its better to have extra damage to just kill the enemies before they even get a chance to hit you.
I remember making a sniper killer with Serial Killer and holy crap it carried me through early to mid-game. Gain the initiative, pop the first dude then another, retreat, or pepper with grenades.
is poindexter really worth it ? I mean, 2 int = +1 skill point right? isn't the whole quirk something equivalent to 2 int or maybe even less? *edit* - forget it, just found out that int only gives the extra skill points ONCE... int sucks now.
i was wondering if the lone wolf quirk is good on a character with high charisma with high leadership, cause it seems that drawback wont affect that character.
If you plan on maxing them, the social skill point backgrounds are good because you will end up saving 6 skill points (2 levels worth of skill points).
The other video said to have one character specialized in toaster repairing which gives +fire dmg buffs so a flame thrower guy with that and disciple of metal could work
Awareness is better on single shot weapons so the single shot hits. Intelligence is better on automatic weapons so multiple hits crit. Intelligence does not give bonus skill points every level, it gives you a one of bonus when you hit the even numbers. After the first into mission, you get to make 2 new characters, so don't feel you need to cover a broad spectrum with the first 2. First aid, Lock picking, explosives, repair and nerdy stuff are really good to have specialists on the team for.
get Medical marvel and and get anything that boost your def and resist even dodge and kill who oppose.... i have kwan and lucia and they keep on dying every big encounter specially with 20k HP opponent until I made them as tanker build... the more you get stronger the bigger the HP of random encounter
Max strength on all characters due to the crazy amount of CON, go the 6 armor quirk, choose the Sex Machine background to negate half the armor quirk negative and become gods on the hardest difficulty. Also have backup recruits at base with maxed intell and just one maxed skill each - toaster repair, weapon modding, armor modding, bartering, survival, lockpicking. gg.
Iiterlly wanted to make a fast gunslinger I picked up death wish while i played with my freind . At first I struggled but now I just let the fights happen then I run in in the middle and start blasting with a revolver so many times a turn.

What level are you going to be at the end game btw? Can we max 3 or 4 skills or maybe go midrange like 6 into our 5th skill? Im trying to build my party from start which makes it rather hard. Companions are terrible at what they do.
I read somewhere that you should pick the premade Yuri and Spence couple because they each have really good accesories. Then after the intro just replace them.
I feel you there man me and my buddy network crashes left and right we have to close the game out before it will let us relaunch a multiplayer session. We also hit a bug a couple times where it cut half the screen off with black resulting in a relaunch. So far my singleplayer campaign has been fine for the most part minus a hard crash here and there.
Can I ask cause I can't find it anywhere.. Can I run around with a party of 6 then when i bump into a new companion i send one back on the spot? Or do I have to run around with an empty slot incase I find a new companion?
Lethal weapon is a lesser damage increase than Vicious Avenger, unless you have more Penetration than your enemies Armor. 2 Penetration = 20% damage increase.
i made the mistake of not picking any "utility" type skills that give me xp along the way, so my main character dosnt have alot of ways to get xp besides killing things, as i only have sneaky shit and weapon modding. both of which give hardly any chances to get xp from exploring and the world, when compared to something like mechanics or explosives. any ideas how i can try to catch up one of my squad, or will he always be like a level behind the others? the 5% trinket isnt enough.
If you are worried about it, I’d say put a few points into his charisma so his personal xp modifier goes up. But if he is tooled to kill, then he may not need as many levels. Being laser focused on combat probably means he is one of your cornerstones when a fight breaks out.
Just make a new custom character to replace the ones you aren't happy with. The game automatically scales the level of new characters to your current highest level squad member, and you can redistribute the attributes and skill points however you like. Then re-equip their gear and there you go. You can even remake the same exact character if you really liked the design, so its basically just a way to catch up underleveled character and fix any mistakes you made when building them. I also recommend not wasting your main squad members' skill points on skills like toaster repair or weapon/armor modding that do nothing for you in the course of a fight. Instead, just create a new custom character spec'd entirely into that one thing that you can go back to base and pull out of reserves whenever you need to mod. For example, i have two non-combatant characters that i dont actually play with, one for modding and one for barter, that i just switch to do do their respective thing, then just switch back to continue playing. As long as you dont mind the short time it takes to occasionally travel back to base and switch out a squad member or two, its far more efficient than sacrificing damage or survivability to try to get your main 6 to be able to do everything in the game.

I made my first character a heavy dude I made ripped and gigantic and now Im running around with the armor that makes u look like a big daddy from bio shock
10 CHR on all characters to start (in order to do that you have to drop one skill to 1). +30% xp bonus means everybody gains levels fast and equals higher skills all around. You can make up the other attributes with your increased leveling.
dont recommend this. i finished the game with one leader character with maxed charisma. he was level 30 vs the rest of my crew at about 26-28, all who dumped cha to minimum. Even compared to the character at level 26, you would waste 9 attribute points in charisma to win back an extra four. Net loss of five. Those 12 extra skill points I got for being 4 levels ahead didn't make a meaningful difference. You can stay ahead of the skill check hurdles by focusing on three skill trees per character and still comfortably finish the game.
Yes. You can go pyromaniac + disciple of metal + toaster repair + big guns and enjoy your fire build (there are also weapon mods to convert regular weapons into fire ones).
Neither. You get 1 skill point every 2 intelligence point, doesn't matter when you add these points (creation or later during the game). It doesn't increase your skill points per level though.

Erik Johnson bro I made a melee guy with only 10 strength and 4 bars of melee skill. He was a straight tank, he didn’t get to walk so far so next time might change the attributes but he just couldn’t die He literally had over 170 hp right off the bat
Based on the analysis here; what I've played personally and the wiki page I looked up - you get an attribute point every 3 levels. There are 50 levels at max assuming the wiki is correct. It does warn about it being information based on the beta. Marking at calculator's help 16 attribute points (besides the starting value) to gain through leveling up. This does not count other sources. If you maxed Int and awareness on your sniper, and you can get even half up on luck you will be doing boatloads of damage. I think based on what I've managed to finagle in build attempts, that means you should be able to either max, or almost max 3 stats. * I believe the value when you take all the stat points to one first is 14. Which adds to 30 from the 16 if we count just the leveling up. You could also get 3 stats to 8, and have the last at 6 (before anything else that might raise your attributes) ** This would be end/power game calculation, and probably a lot more difficult to plan for right out. Hopefully this conjecture helps. *** I haven't gotten anywhere near beating the game, so I can't say for certain even if the max is 50 that any playthrough would actually get there without a lot of grinding.

Finally playing this game. I took poindexter on my sniper. It's fantastic for her build. Sniper skill monkey, she never leaves the party.

hi is there a default amount of action points? How much points do I need to put in coordination in order to get 10(normal) and 12 (max) ?

Does Leadership work on the character that has it? If not then Lone Wolf would be good on them as a quirk.

Will I stick with these 4 members now for the whole game? Or can new members be created throughout the game?
You can create new members, as many as you want and swap them in any way you want
you can create when you are in HQ and hire another 2
How do you figure out what your Crit chance is?

I made my first character a heavy dude I made ripped and gigantic and now Im running around with the armor that makes u look like a big daddy from bio shock

Over thinking my characters and I finally decided I'll stop working about being the strongest and just build characters after real ppl lol
10 CHR on all characters to start (in order to do that you have to drop one skill to 1). +30% xp bonus means everybody gains levels fast and equals higher skills all around. You can make up the other attributes with your increased leveling.
dont recommend this. i finished the game with one leader character with maxed charisma. he was level 30 vs the rest of my crew at about 26-28, all who dumped cha to minimum. Even compared to the character at level 26, you would waste 9 attribute points in charisma to win back an extra four. Net loss of five. Those 12 extra skill points I got for being 4 levels ahead didn't make a meaningful difference. You can stay ahead of the skill check hurdles by focusing on three skill trees per character and still comfortably finish the game.

can a character have all skill at 28 or the max lvl is too low to do that?
Is the fire damage quirk cumulative with the fire damage character trait? So they add together to make a perfect pyromaniac?
Yes. You can go pyromaniac + disciple of metal + toaster repair + big guns and enjoy your fire build (there are also weapon mods to convert regular weapons into fire ones).
Also add range mods to flamethrowers.... I've doubled the range and can do the entire screen 😆

Luck increases penetration? Every man should have that stat maxed! 😁
Why does it call my character xxx even when I named them?
Does intelligence increase skill points on all level ups or only in the beginning?
Neither. You get 1 skill point every 2 intelligence point, doesn't matter when you add these points (creation or later during the game). It doesn't increase your skill points per level though.
@@Draclord35 thank you for your ti e. Just bought the game and rerolled my characters. Intelligence seemed to good to be true with the crit chance and crit boost also. Now it makes sense.
What do you think about melee and sniper
That's what I did, melee guy killed one dude and immediately died, not sure how to bring him back but idk I'm like an hour in.

Erik Johnson bro I made a melee guy with only 10 strength and 4 bars of melee skill. He was a straight tank, he didn’t get to walk so far so next time might change the attributes but he just couldn’t die
He literally had over 170 hp right off the bat
Not sure about u guys, but listening to him go at rapping speed, its soo much easier to listen to him at 0.75 speed

Amongst content creators it would appear that there are some discrepancies in build guides.
Each person has their own play style, which informs their preferences.
just create your own. choosing isnt worth it
Based on the analysis here; what I've played personally and the wiki page I looked up - you get an attribute point every 3 levels. There are 50 levels at max assuming the wiki is correct. It does warn about it being information based on the beta. Marking at calculator's help 16 attribute points (besides the starting value) to gain through leveling up. This does not count other sources. If you maxed Int and awareness on your sniper, and you can get even half up on luck you will be doing boatloads of damage. I think based on what I've managed to finagle in build attempts, that means you should be able to either max, or almost max 3 stats. * I believe the value when you take all the stat points to one first is 14. Which adds to 30 from the 16 if we count just the leveling up. You could also get 3 stats to 8, and have the last at 6 (before anything else that might raise your attributes) ** This would be end/power game calculation, and probably a lot more difficult to plan for right out. Hopefully this conjecture helps. *** I haven't gotten anywhere near beating the game, so I can't say for certain even if the max is 50 that any playthrough would actually get there without a lot of grinding.
It must be outdated as you gain an Attribute point every level. You will end the game around 25-28 or so.

I just wish they would let you respec characters. It's not really necessary for your custom rangers but having companions who cant be changed if you make a mistake really sucks
