    Don't waste points on an "active" character with Armor / Weapon modding. Just have an extra dude that lives at your base, and have him do it. You could also have a Barter character, and just wait til you can swap them before selling.
    Also, it is a perfectly valid idea to have a character who is heavily min maxed towards being great in the early game, you can always replace them when you are higher level with a more "Focused" character.

    What works best for my 4 custom characters is:
    1) toaster repair, automatic weapons, hard ass, weapon modding
    Background: the boss
    Quirk: lone wolf
    2) big guns, weird science, armor modding
    Background: vicious avenger
    Quirk lone wolf
    3) explosives, nerd stuff, automatic weapons
    Background: explodomaniac
    Quirk: circus freak
    4) lockpicking, sneaky stuff, automatic weapons
    Background: desert cat
    Quirk: lone wolf
    Later on give them all mechanics 3 for the perk (it will help against scorpitrons)

    Ive been wanting to get into this game but I would get analysis paralysis everytime I reached the HQ. (that and the console version is/was very buggy) But I recently buckled down and after a long time browsing youtube vids I found a party set up that covers all the bases and works out. Now I started playing as a shotgun toting leader/medic, a melee tank that uses explosives, a flamethrower using tech specialist and a sneaky sniper. Kwon fits in really well as hes the only automatic gun user and has kiss ass. Lucia is a bit of a third wheel though.
    Without spoiling, can anyone tell me what "template" future companions fullfill? I dont mind knowing how many there are, but leaving them unnamed would be apreciated.

    While coordination is much more important in WL3 (compared to WL2, since they got rid of interleaved turn order), it is NOT important at all on snipers and heavy gunners. Those weapons usually take 6+ AP to fire and you don't need (or want) to move around much.
    Intelligence got nerfed hard, since the +1 skill point on even rank is ONE TIME ONLY, but it's still king in WL3 because of the crit chance and, more importantly, crit damage.
    This video is pretty half-baked tbh.

    • @LevattWolfheart
      @LevattWolfheart 4 года назад +2

      From what I can see... these builds are all suboptimal. I wouldn't use most of them for Supreme Jerk, I can give you advice on how to build characters if you have a concept you want to run though.

    • @conpan.5903
      @conpan.5903 4 года назад

      @@LevattWolfheart I agree that these builds seem suboptimal for Supreme Jerk difficulty. I am planning to start a new game on Supreme Jerk and I have 2 characters in mind as my starters.
      1. A sniper with Goat killer and Sadomasochist that also has the Sneaky shit skill. What other Skills do you suggest and what starting attributes?
      2. A Leader/Medic with Pointdexter and Bookworm that uses Small arms. This character will have Leadership, First Aid, and Small arms. What do you think the best starting attributes are and can I squeeze another skill in?

    • @LevattWolfheart
      @LevattWolfheart 4 года назад +2

      @@conpan.5903 I recommend switching sadomasochist for deathwish and using I think 8 points in coordination (12 AP is goal, for 2 shots every round, sado will just cause overkill and hinder you more than taking no armor) 2 str and the rest into intelligence especially with going for crit with goat killer, as int adds crit chance and crit multiplier, very big damage. You don't need awareness because you don't need that much hit chance bonus cause snipers have high base chance plus skills will boost it.
      As for extra skills I would grab sneaky shit for the one shot potential on first strike especially with sneaky shit 10 perk for massive first shot damage boost.
      If you are grabbing that already you may want to grab explosives because 200% opening rocket shot with direct hit critical from perks can be devastating as an opener against multiple enemies, but you may want to use someone else for that combo as well. As for attributes later, Max int if you can, coordination is fine where it is as you will have 12 ap (2 shots per round) with deathwish, from there you can make choices as you feel you need and for style. Str if you want a little more health to avoid getting one shot, charisma will boost your strike gain for extra headshot. Luck will give better everything without affecting playstyles and if you really want to, maximize coordination if you really need to move one square every round... (snipers don't move)
      As for leader with Pistol you should combine decent strength and speed with high charisma and then keep pumping coordination. .6 combat speed will let you move 2 spaces, and you can get armor mods on legs that give .2and I like to get at least 4 Str for heavy armor and good health. Charisma though should be full first, then max coordination. It's a lot of points so you can't do everything you want early on, no matter what you will be making sacrifices based on your needs and style and filling out so I'll go over the primary stats and what they do for that build.
      Str:keeps you alive, eventually get it between 4-6 depending on your needs but no higher
      Speed: as medic you will want to be able to move to save allies, and evasion will keep you alive which you need to get close enough for Pistol shots. As stated above. .6 movement speed is needed to move an extra space for 1 AP. You can get .2 from armor mods so you can use 4 speed to get all the movement you want. More points will lead to more evasion which is nice if you can fit it in later.
      Charisma: best maxed out early for xp bonus, but it's real strength isn't for leadership range or xp, you want it for strike bonus. Strike bonus with pistols is one of the most efficient strike generators in the game, so regular headshot will occur.
      Int:2 because I don't like wasting +1 skill.
      Coordination: between high charisma and maxed out coordination you can keep shooting that Pistol and building that strike. Plus you can use some of your leadership perk abilities (esp demoralize) and still fight. I would make it later as a bonus personally as survivability and charisma are far more important. Especially with pointdexter.
      So I would start with 4 Str, max charisma 2 spd and 2 coordination or 6 Str, max charisma and pre order hat. Then reach for 4 speed max coordination. Or 4 coordination then 4 speed then max coordination. Or 4 Str, max charisma, and 3 coordination plus hat for free ap

      @@LevattWolfheart Wow, thanks a lot for the detailed and fast response! I was thinking of some of the stuff you touch on. I saw a lot of people recommending Death wish over Sadomasochist, but now I understand why. I was not sure if I could get away with 2 Str on my sniper and was thinking to start with 4, but I guess it might be overkill. As far as my leader goes I am thinking 6 Str with the hat and push for 4 speed before maxing coordination.
      For my other two created characters, I am thinking of a melee tank with blunt weapons and a submachine gun user with weird science.

    • @LevattWolfheart
      @LevattWolfheart 4 года назад +1

      @@conpan.5903 Starting with 2 is fine for sniper but it is certainly acceptable to grab more health early. Another reason not to take sadomasochist is that the 33% increased damage taken is everything, and what will most likely kill you is explosive rocket as a sniper, and seeing as explosives ignore armor anyway you don't lost out with missing armor.
      In my game with my friend we made the first two characters a melee tank and sniper cause I knew he'd need protecting. Him getting killed hasn't been a problem because of that combo and my aggressive positioning (I recommend at least 1 point in first aid so you can med pack yourself as melee tank in close range, a multi turn heal over time is really good but your medic might not be able to get to you.
      In first aid there is a perk called over healing which increases max health for over healing but it only works if you heal someone else so it's not viable on the tank, but with a fast medic with some good survivability he could drop that on the tank pretty easy.

Besides that though, personally I would recommend that people pair skills with synergies: Sniper Rifles goes great with Sneaky Stuff, Big Guns synergizes with Explosives and Toaster Repair due to Rockets and Flame Throwers, etc.

    This builds looks like trash.

    • @LevattWolfheart
      @LevattWolfheart 4 года назад +1

      @@norzza I agree, they aren't good at all.
      The attribute breakdown is absolutely the worst offender in this guide:
      Coordination: You WAY overvalue this, 2 or 4 coordination is actually enough for many builds. If you can't fire your gun more because of it than you are far better off using the speed stat for more efficient movement, dodging or initiative, more health, or all the benefits of luck, or crits from intelligence. AR builds, Pistol and Brawling builds may favor that, but Big Guns, Sub Machine Guns, Melee Weapons would not benefit from this. Coordination are for breakpoints to fire twice or just having an AP or two for movement.
      Luck: Definitely not useless, although you would probably put points to them down the line. Getting lucky action for big guns for instance would vastly more useful than high Coordination as you can't afford to take perks to get 12 AP for Big Guns unlike snipers (too much risk, Big Gun builds need to be tanky, so no death wish perk here) Likewise low pen weapons can benefit from this as the game goes on.
      Awareness: You don't really touch on this. Very useful stat but it's not necessary for all ranged builds. Most to hit is coming from Skills but some weapons need more to hit than others (again sub machine guns or Heavy Machine Guns). Consistency in damage is what those weapons need and so to hit a full burst is more important for those characters, but for AR they already have enough to hit to be fine
      Strength: This is how I know you don't play on Supreme Jerk. So many of the builds I see are sitting at 1 Strength. That means no con per level, even the ranged only characters need at least 2 so they don't die from one hit or an explosive attack. Maybe sniper can get away with it or if you are reloading until an enemy misses you or something
      Speed: Better than coordination if you are not going for specific break points to get 2 shots per turn, or if the character is in front line. +initiative is very useful in going first but more importantly gives significant evasion. Combined with high Strength means you can absorb so much damage for your squishy back lines it's insane.
      Intelligence: You mention the almost useless bonus of getting +1 Skill one time at the beginning of the game for every 2 levels and don't mention the entire reason why you would go for high int in the first place. Massive Crit Chance and Massive Criticals. This is the sniper's stat!
      Charisma: Yes, it is for leadership and you may as well add that in, plus it can be used to make a skill monkey with Pointdexter perk, but it's other big benefit is + Strike Build up, fantastic for pistol users. build strike then debuff or headshot! BAM!

      I think it might just depend on your build, something like a brawler probably wants more luck than a rifleman does. Though I'm sure you can make an argument for a luck based sniper build, you have to think where the points are going to come from. Do you sacrifice intelligence for those points so you don't have to take from awareness? Definitely worth a discussion.

      @@dropbearjd8986 I would put luck in as time goes on. Early on you want to hit your breakpoints for what you character wants, Str for the armor they want, coordination for the AP they specifically need, ect.
      When you start the game fresh you create what I like to call the skeletal framework for the build. Luck multiplies it's effectiveness, which is why it's hard to justify putting points in at creation and you forget about it.
