These are tiny steps I’ve been already incorporating. I was unsuccessful at “working out for an hour everyday before work” so I did “do 20 min of exercise or your choice before work each day”. For me. That’s been very successful and I’ve even gotten to 45min some days. The smaller goal really helped. I was also focussing too much on burning as many calories in that hour. I changed that to focussing on movement.
Great suggestions. I learned more from this video too. As well as the reminder to be patient with myself… I need that reminder.

So, I'm in the process of looking for work after my last contract ended about 2 months ago, and just to keep things moving and hopefully making my resume look nicer, I've been doing an hour or so of certification studying half-ish of the days.
Saying this (if you live in the US anyways) because my local library has a program set up for 'online' resources, and due to feeling burnt out/slogged, the most recent certification I'm going towards is the University of Edinburgh's Music Theory course on coursera (which, through the library, is free). So, if you're like me and just starting is the hardest part, and it really helps to have a syllabus/lesson plan in place for that, maybe giving your local library a visit can help knock out number 3 in a way that'd not typically come to mind.
      Best wishes, and safe travels!

I wrote down my goal for this year: "Achieve a green belt in karate"
I had been exercising by myself but it just didn't work, couldn't do more than 10 minutes and skipped days pretty often. I joined a karate class at the start of 2022 and made a huge improvement in just a few weeks. Having a teacher who expected me to show up kept me on track.
My new goal is to code for 30 minutes each day, and this video is an excellent way to start planning.

I've been doing this steadily for 2 weeks because my goal was to turn up to my dentist appointment and cope too. I didn't go today. But all the progress i made on myself is still there and i'll keep going.

I'm trying to recall if it was Atomic Habits, Simple Rules, or Factfulness -- I think the first? -- that had an anecdote of a cycling team that tried to get 1% improvement in each aspect of the process. One percent better with the brakes, the wheels, the seat, the handlebars. One percent better with the way they exercised, their nutrition, their hydration. The type of uniform they wore. It all added up to a sudden streak of wins.
Making small progress is more effective in the long run than trying to make big progress quickly.
P.S. For viewing progress over time, the app I've found most useful is "Do It Now," which lets you set up traits, skills, and tasks, where doing a task increases the relevant skills (e.g. studying for twenty minutes increases focus and Japanese) and increasing the skills increases the traits (e.g. strength training and aerobics both increase the Fitness trait). It's all highly customizable, and seeing those numbers bump up over time can be quite motivating. One of the few issues I have with it is that it's a bit of an overload for a beginner, but if you can get past that hump, it's quite an impressive app, and one of the few I eventually paid money for (I typically stick to freebie apps for basically anything, so it definitely impressed me).

My goal is that I want to jog a mile every day, yesterday, after not running since my sophomore year gym class, I jogged the entire 15-minute mile, which is something I could barley accomplish in my gym class. My mom and I have been telling each other that we needed to run again, but neither of us had the proper planning skills. I've noticed that since I was fearful of my sudden weight gain from freshman summer during covid that the most I ever weighed were 255 pounds. I now weigh 233 pounds I believe I lost some muscle mass after I quit working out from that gym class, I weighed 240 at that time. It really frustrated me cause I was told I was slimming down but I couldn't see it. I definitely think I've gotten bigger but I'm not scared as I was when I was 14. I've been drinking more water lately but I've noticed that my stomach throws curve balls at me and I don't understand my hunger. I can't really control my diet at home but when Im at school I've been making sure I have veggies on my plate because I like them. But recently I stopped doing that because they ran out of plums and I got mad at that. This writing feels kind of purposeless now that I've written it. I just hope that i jog that mile today, I'm getting excited just thinking about it, I might even start doing it right now. If i can get off youtube and out of bed. throw away comment to be honest.
12-3-22 I had a fourteen fifteen minute mile holding the same pace the entire jog
12-4-22 I wanted to do a little bit over a 13 minute mile I ended up slowing from 4.6 to 2.6 mph for 30 seconds then going back to 4.6, I ended up pushing almost 5.5 for around 30 second afterward I was slowing and speeding up through all the speeds I mentioned for the last quarter of my lap
12-5-22 worst one yet slowest I went was 2mph highest 5.5mph around 16 minutes but I had 2 ojs, water, salad, and an apple for my lunch today thankfully the school had some my calves hurt
12-6-22 14 minutes and 22 seconds mainly a brisk walk and running every now and then I wasnt feeling well today I think I over ate or ate something bad? then again most of my diet is bad fast food cant really help that but I avoided snacks today. I'm still sweating tho
12-7-22 like 16 minutes and 12 seconds its slower because I'm trying to go higher intensity 5.5 to 6 mph with break segments each lap at 2 mph I quite like this format but on my last lap I walked longer than I wanted to, ate a salad today and proportioned my dinner and had a cupcake without feeling full I just have period pains now :(
    12-8-22 14 minute mile
    I forgot to post 9 and 10 9 was 14 10 was 16
i forgot to do a day but I went out to the garage to run again today but the garage somehow grew in spiders
right next to the treadmil, on the treadmil, on the wall by the treadmil, making webs and spider sacs above the treadmil, I refuse I'm sorry, I instead did (attempted) to do 15 minutes of jump rope but ill probably find a workout plan and maybe try to do an outdoor mile tho I don't think ill be able to work up to that yet, I do know some land marks I could try to work up to jogging too tho, I have a twenty pound weight and some other ideas so ill keep it updated, happy ten likes ! 12/11/22

Just a tip: 10 kgs in 6 months is A LOT. Also, once you start training properly you actually gain weight because you start building your muscles. Therefore, using weight as a measure of success can lead to perceived failure and frustration.
Instead, try re-framing it as something like: "I want to look myself in the mirror and like myself more."

Today is July 1st and my 6 months goals are:
    1) to study really hard and perform well in an exam that's due in December. Stay consistent with it and don't take the burden at the very last minute. This is absolute priority because I've seen failure before and i don't want to disappoint my parents again.
    2) sleep well, atleast 7-8 hours a day. And not forgo sleep when exams are due in just last month. This is also related to the first point, so I'm not going to give up sleep because I'll stay consistent with studying.
    3) work on my mental health. Work on my triggers. Try to be a more calm, stable and organized person.
    4) don't stay up late, wake up early and get atleast some body movement, even if I'm not able to have a full hour yoga session, just do a stretch for 20 minutes everyday.
    8) take care of and pamper my hair. I feel like I have really neglected my hair the past few months and I've been getting crazy hair fall. So my goal would be to have healthy hair at by the end of this year.
    9) grown a booty ( don't judge haha but i would really like to have a booty by the end of this year
    10) be confident, don't have the self esteem of a roach and being able to walk in a room with my head held up straight.
    11) don't stay on electronics in free time and go out and try to socialize more with people my age, or read a book go to a park but don't stay on the phone all day

I clicked immediately for the Willow reference, she really changed her life within a short period as well, she first chose to befriend Luz instead of falling into anxiety, although she didn't give up practicing the abomination magic, she realised that her place was on another coven, so she challenged the principal to get herself on the right place, throughout the time, she healed her friendship roots with Amity and became more compassionate towards her even after being hurt, she became more confident and flourished on every episode, maybe she thought it wasn't much of a change, but she's certainly aware of her values and qualities.

I have ADHD and it's really hard for me to stick with new habits, as I usually go into it way too hard and soon lose all motivation to keep going.
I've decided my 3 main goals will be:
    1 - Go for a walk everyday
2 - Study at least 1 hour every morning
3 - Read 1 chapter of my bible every night
I feel like all of these are achivable, and to be able to do them I will need to fix some other bad habits I have (like spending too much time on my phone or sleeping till 9).

small insight from my story of fighting for a change. I was (still am but not as bad) struggling with procrastination, trying to sleep early and wake up early, but always ended up sleeping long hours and still being tired.
Long story short, I finally dared to ask for a help. Therapist suggested visiting a psychiatrist, who prescribed me some meds. It's been only a month, but I already see some changes.
Turns out it doesn't matter that much how early or late you go to sleep, but the quality of sleep you're getting. It's so much easier for me now wake up earlier and actually get up!
I'm finally feeling hopeful for good changes in my life

This is exactly what I needed. I’ve been feeling down lately and I was wondering about starting to change my life so that I could maybe one day achieve my childhood dream. It felt very exciting to think about my goal but as I’ve been feeling rather gloomy I couldn’t put my mind to do anything, especially as I had NO idea how to get started and what to do. Now I’ll try to follow the video and try changing. Thank you so so much for the tips!

I need to learn to not put high expectations on myself, especially because I dealt with cancer last year. Before I fell sick I studied full time, worked and moved into my fist apartment I cooked around 4-6 times per week. Now I struggle with even eating once a day, keeping up with personal hygiene and the chaos in my apartment. I definitly wasn't perfect and not getting everything done that had to be done, but I somehow managed it to work out for me before, now it feels like I am learning how a human functions again.
I just got 18 in october 2020 and moved in in december 2020 with my ex-boyfriend in our first partment, so 2 years after moving out of my parents home and still being very young, I still have to learn a lot about keeping up with house chores and personal needs at the same time, don't even remind me of work, studies and relationships.
I broke up with my Ex 3 weeks before my diagnosis because he was toxic and abusive (diagnosis + start of chemotherapy both happened in march 2022). At the end of the relationship and after the Diagnosis I fell pretty deep tho: depression, trauma, anxiety, fatigue, the consequences of chemotherapy and in general the cancer. I also think that I might have adhd, and the symptoms of adhd often get worse with chemotherapy. The symptoms I experienced could have a lot of different logical and reasonable explanations tho.
My Goal for this year is to get back on track with university, not necessarily full time, but with at least some subjects. This semester I am doing 2 out of 4 subjects, and while my goal before cancer was to get like a 1,* NC, my goal now is to just pass both of the exams in march :D I won't work for the next 1-2 years tho (I luckily had an insurance which covers my income, its even better than what I got from my student job...). I still live in my apartment and taking care of it and myself is already enough work for me, which I hardly can manage atm.
I am also making progress if I even eat once a day, and even better if its self cooked and not ordered. Even if it just means I am cooking some noodles with ready sauce or put potatoes on a baking sheet in the oven, I am proud if I cooked and eat anything thats a somewhat proper meal.
I also would like to get my body strength back and I know that working out has many many health benefits, so I am trying to get workouts back in my life. I didn't go to the gym this year yet, I hope that I workout around 2-3 times per week in a few month and got a routine.
My sleep schedule is absolutely horrible, just now it hit 12 am on 18th january as I am writing this comment.
What I love is that I now have a very supportive boyfriend. He is very patient with me and how my apartment is constantly going back to its chaos-state. But e.g. today, I organized my laundry, folded some and loaded one machine AND cooked myself 2 steaks and put some potatoes filled with quark in the oven, it's a great achievment for me, and he told me multiple times how proud he is of me, especially since I did it all by myself without him helping me like he often does when hes over at my place. I am so grateful that I have someone who sees even the small achievements I make and it's very motivating. I want to make progress not only for me now but also to make him proud, which helps a lot with motivation, especilly because I mainly work on motivation or stress :D
