I couldn't care less about most shred guitar stuff, but Perpetual Burn is such a badass composition; it's like someone revived Paganini from the dead, handed him an electric guitar and a Marshall stack and said "here, make something with this." In terms of complex harmony and melody it gets so much closer to the spirit of classical virtuoso style composition than Yngwie ever did.
primeDecomposition I find Yngwie has a style that is more of Vivaldi and Bach than Paganini. Where as Jason is more technically proficient and really terrifies you with his playing like Paganini did.
Interesting thought. I love the music of Jason Becker and Malmsteen. In fact, I think Malmsteen's Rising Force and Perpetual Burn are the reference for neoclassical virtuoso guitar music. However, I think "Far beyond the sun" is completely comparable to the song "Perpetual burn" and both remind of Paganini. I really don't want to get into comparing Jason and Yngwie because both are so talented and gifted that doesn't make sense. At that level you just can't say one is better that the other. We also have to remember that Yngwie was a big influence on Jason. Those arpeggios and fast scales maybe where inspired by Malmsteen :)

He's an inspiration to anybody who wants to advance their guitar skills to the next level. God bless him and his amazing legacy of music.
First off, I’m geeking out just as much as she did. Secondly, Jason Becker has taught me a HUGE lesson: Make the biggest positive influence you can with the time you have because you have no idea will come at you and derail all of you plans. It may not be ALS or something like that, but you never know... so always be doing good, always be the best influence you can be.
WAY too cool! What a great thing for Josh to set up for you, and what a rewarding experience...you could see your very soul smile Nita! Jason remained a very gracious soul his own self...
So cool of you to do this. Jason is an inspiration to us all and I love your positive and relentless assault on your goals. Keep shredding, lifting, and loving life!
Nita.... You a a very talented lady. I'm glad that your kind boyfriend did this for you. Meeting your heroes can be a blessing or a curse but this is obviously a blessing. Cheers
Coming back and watching this years later and seeing her growth from then til now is amazing, but to know that she was well on her way in making her mark and still questioned herself, it’s humbling. Love how there’s the cuts back to her shredding effortlessly after you hear the doubt in her voice..ah hell, I said I wouldn’t cry before I wrote this…such a feel-good moment
I was diagnosed with a very bad condition and seeing him gives me a lot of hope and makes me want keep going thanks you Jason you and Marty are my heroes.
Jason Becker is such an inspiration for so many. Great video Nita. Thanks for sharing this. You are doing here what many of us can only dream of. To meet Jason and to play for him must be so emotive.
+Dennis T. That system is one he came up with with his parents. They read the only part of his body he can still control, his eyes, and using the method they devise, it's how he communicates everything. There's no other interface that could use.
+Dennis T. - No, actually he moves a mouse pointer with his cheek muscle, if you Google pics of him, you'll see it hanging from his glasses, it's this light scanner that reads his cheek muscle moving . For some reason they can't do it with the eye, but they said now his cheek muscle is going as well as his eye movements which means he will be completely locked in, meaning no way to communicate so right now they are trying to devise ways to read his brain signal which I think they've had some success with.
Great that you got to meet Jason! Truly a memory to cherish forever. Richmond CA was a minor hotbed of metal talent in that time. My friend Tony Evans was born & raised there too, sadly passed away before his talents were really discovered. We were SO HAPPY when Jason was recognized as the huge talent he is. You carry the torch well Nita - keep up the great work, looking forward to seeing you in concert again soon!
i can likely guarantee that if i got to meet jason becker that i would probably be on the verge of a panic attack i couldnt not be nervous or be on the verge on tears, hes one fo the most amazing human beings every to me
Maybe in order to overcome an illness as powerful as ALS, one has to be even more powerful themself... Frustration, when channeled properly, can become motivation.
Super cool! I might have got a little misty - eyed while watching this. Jason Becker is a class act with amazing strength and perseverance. Nita Strauss is an incredible guitarist. Just awesome.
Let's be real. Meeting someone with such an advanced stage of a debilitating condition as ALS for the first time must be very uncomfortable. Then trying to perform in that mindset is a whole other layer of discomfort and pressure. Nita did a great job and I'm sure Jason was all the more flattered that he was still influencing other guitarists. Such a cool video.
I saw Jason with Eddie Van Halen and man that was hard to watch without crying. Eddie loved Jason, you could tell. Then that led me here. Awesome playing as always Nita
I think it is so cool David Lee Roth did so much for him when he first became ill. He never talked about it, didnt brag, just helped him with no need for media or praise. People think he just has a big ego, but that is just what you see on stage.
I love Jason, and this girl is one awesome momma! I'm just an old country blues player and could never be this good! Players this good are special and rare, maybe one day I'll get to go see such talents. In the meantime I'll enjoy my tele and old deluxe reverb. Wow
Great playing - really enjoyed the video. Jason is a legendary player so to play that song in his presence takes guts & no shortage of skill too. Awesome 👍👍

Wow!!! Seriously touched by the whole Mecca trip. And kudos for playing like you do madame. As a mediocre player I crumbled on the inside just at the thought of meeting someone like him. Seeing you nail the piece in his living room gave me a mild out-of-body experience. *bows deeply*
So nice! But the backing track was a bit too loud, I could hardly hear her playing. Otherwise, Jason's a great guy and player. A humble person too, I guess. Can tell from all those cool EVH guitars hanging on the walls.

That had to make Jason's day. & his wife's day. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Jason Becker is like the Stephen Hawking of guitar playing.
Very beautifully said .
but better
Literally is xD
***** Yes, it does.
NextLevelGamer Is it possible for Jason to use the same equipment that helps stephen hawking to talk?
Love this video. Once a while I pop in, when I'm feeling down, and it picks me up. Love Jason, love Nita. Thanks so much for sharing.
Awesome video! She is a boss to play that so well right in front of Jason.
Thank you Jason Becker and Nita Strauss for this on you tube thank you for sharing your heart warming story to us. cool.
Amazing! So cool you played for Jason! Must have been terrifying and exhilarating. Wow!
WAY too cool! What a great thing for Josh to set up for you, and what a rewarding experience...you could see your very soul smile Nita! Jason remained a very gracious soul his own self...
In that morbid angel shirt like fuck yes
So cool of you to do this. Jason is an inspiration to us all and I love your positive and relentless assault on your goals. Keep shredding, lifting, and loving life!
Awesome Nita!!! I love going over to Jason's and geeking out at his guitars!!! His family is so nice.
Nita.... You a a very talented lady. I'm glad that your kind boyfriend did this for you. Meeting your heroes can be a blessing or a curse but this is obviously a blessing. Cheers
Wow a Morbid Angel t-shirt. Cool
Yeah, didn't know she was into old school death metal. I've seen Morbid Angel live 3 times. Trey is awesome.
MoveitorLoseit2 I'm a big fan of Pete Sandoval
Trey is such an underrated guitar player. His skills are out of this world. Trey is a fan of Jason Becker, by the way.
I come back & watch this every few months. What a joy.
“The key to success is playing the hand you were dealt like it was the hand you wanted”
OMG you got to meet Jason Becker!!!!!
Truly inspirational. Keep the spirit of Jason's virtuoso playing alive. God bless!!
Cried, literally
Kudos to Nita for a good natural laugh, Jason hold on!
I was diagnosed with a very bad condition and seeing him gives me a lot of hope and makes me want keep going thanks you Jason you and Marty are my heroes.
How's it going?
way to play, Nita!! no pressure!!!...whoa....
very touchinjg!!!! FUcking ALS
Jason Becker is such an inspiration for so many. Great video Nita. Thanks for sharing this. You are doing here what many of us can only dream of. To meet Jason and to play for him must be so emotive.
very cool video. but goddammit, give Jason a friggin computer already so he can talk
+Dennis T. That system is one he came up with with his parents. They read the only part of his body he can still control, his eyes, and using the method they devise, it's how he communicates everything.
There's no other interface that could use.
doesn't Steven Hawking kinda do the same thing? he uses a computer with his eye movements...
+Dennis T. - No, actually he moves a mouse pointer with his cheek muscle, if you Google pics of him, you'll see it hanging from his glasses, it's this light scanner that reads his cheek muscle moving . For some reason they can't do it with the eye, but they said now his cheek muscle is going as well as his eye movements which means he will be completely locked in, meaning no way to communicate so right now they are trying to devise ways to read his brain signal which I think they've had some success with.
ooh, man...this is sad. they still should find a way to make a computer speak for him though
+Dennis T. the "eyegaze" thing exists its just not used by hawking
You carry the torch well Nita - keep up the great work, looking forward to seeing you in concert again soon!
i can likely guarantee that if i got to meet jason becker that i would probably be on the verge of a panic attack i couldnt not be nervous or be on the verge on tears, hes one fo the most amazing human beings every to me
whose Jason Becker??
+Dont Fuck With Me! k XD
Hello Nita, you really did a great job here! Jason will never be forgotten! Thanks for sharing it! Love it!
you've got more balls than most men, great vid!
She has 3
+Ben C ha!
Outstanding in so many ways. Thank you for sharing. (from a 60 y.o. bluegrass fan)
Don't know how he goes on surrounded by so many guitars. Would be extraordinary frustrating..
Maybe in order to overcome an illness as powerful as ALS, one has to be even more powerful themself... Frustration, when channeled properly, can become motivation.
He isn't frustrated because he is still making music and the gods of guitar will happily play his work and do it with pride
I’ve only just came across Jason Becker in the last year and without a doubt he’s up there with inspiration with EVH SRV and RS
what an amazing man Jason is...
Super cool! I might have got a little misty - eyed while watching this. Jason Becker is a class act with amazing strength and perseverance. Nita Strauss is an incredible guitarist. Just awesome.
very cool of your boyfriend to do that for you. :)
I can just see the emotion in your eyes when you're first holding Jason's guitar - almost made this 38yr old cry. You're awesome Nita!
You brought a lot of joy to each other!
Not many would have prevailed on that difficult piece with Jason watching and listening like you did!
How awesome is that?! That would be like an audience with God! No pressure ... !
I love Jason, and this girl is one awesome momma! I'm just an old country blues player and could never be this good! Players this good are special and rare, maybe one day I'll get to go see such talents. In the meantime I'll enjoy my tele and old deluxe reverb. Wow
Who the bloody hell dislikes this video and why?!
+Karn Kaul I know, right? Probably assholes who think "girls can't play guitar."
+Karn Kaul Maybe a hater or a jealous one
+CyberLeaf well said sir
+Karn Kaul I disliked cause there weren't enough haters. Someone gotta help those haters out, might as well be me. Love the video though :D
darkspear356 Well, admitting it is the first step :D
Great playing - really enjoyed the video. Jason is a legendary player so to play that song in his presence takes guts & no shortage of skill too. Awesome 👍👍
Love Jason Becker so much, hé should bé today the best guitarist ever lived. In m'y heart hes still the best, and i proud to bé à fan, this Guy deserve evething hé made true composer, hes like à modern Bach Mozart Paganini Beethoven, the first ever to develop great thecnique and musicality at this level, when Jason made perpetual burn hé made the new modèle for néo classical\metal player, this album is like à bible for me
Rose Mafia Why do u keep using "è" instead of "e" lol
God bless jason and his family for every single opportunity to give to people to meet him and get inspired loving music every single minute in our life.
At the begining of the video I think in Brazzers :v
Amazing1 Two really great players! Thanks for this.
There's a Stevie Ray Vaughan guitar up on the wall :)
Thats awesome I was suppose to be the flower girl for his brothers wedding
+Edouard Gahini It must be an effect from the camera position. Usually even if the amp is very low you could still hear it well if you were actually there.
