- Hey everybody, on the last day of Firewind’s North American tour w/ Dragonforce I went to visit the legendary Jason Becker in his house in Richmond, CA. I’m grateful I got to spend a couple of hours with him, his family and friends, play some of his guitars and get to see him again after 6 years. Jason was kind enough to let me borrow his jacket he wore on Cacophony’s “Go Off” photo shoot which I wore on stage the same night to honor the man. Many thanks to Stephen Correa & Dave Lopez.

Jason Becker's parents are an example for humanity, taking care of their son in the hope that he will talk or walk again... God bless them. and GG what a human being!
@@standingvertical3048
some are like that!!
Yes, I do agree with you about Jason Becker's parents
What else are they supposed to do? Ignore him and let him rot?
@@joejackson9986 you do not get it..
😴💩
ALS is degenerative and there is no real hope of walking, talking again.
Such a bittersweet experience. Thank you for sharing these personal moments with us Gus! Jason seems a very nice and funmy guy despite all that hit him in life. Very inspiring
I was listening to Perpetual Burn a few days ago. Feels so nice to see you there Gus. The jacket...Although I have to admit that Jason's case really breaks my heart. I wish a miracle happens! Maybe if we all pray together...Lots of love to him, his family & his friends from Greece!
Astonishing --- becker is king and big fighter
Jason is GOAT❤️
Thanks for sharing I was just thinking about Jason that he is doing well… is good to see him…💚🙏🎼🎸🎼💚
Great video, thanks for sharing
Carvin made some great amps and guitars. What a collection!
I love this! I feel so bad for Jason! 🤘🏼
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
As a fan I wish to visit Jason one day. I'm sure if that is a normal thing, but if I did I would feel incredibly uncomfortable playing guitar in front of him. Not because I am a bad player; I would confidently jam with any of my guitar heroes. It would feel like I am taunting him.
From what I have heard I think that he requests it and that he has interest. But it must hurt him so deeply to see so many great players and not be able to play himself any more. I suppose that I am imaging how I would feel if I was him, but I suppose that time can change perspective.
👏👏👏👏👏🕊❤
Poor Jason, I could only imagine that he wants to get up and shred the guitar so badly. Your a Legend Jason 🤟
Poor? Sorry but I don't like this comment. This guy is perceived as a demigod to lots of people and this respect is endless.
@@bozdoganli666 A demigod still stuck to his wheelchair all day long. So yes, poor Jason.
@@nairdazitro7460 hopefully Elon musk’s plan to cure ALS works.
@@tzctlpcif that did work, Jason probably wouldn’t be able to play guitar like he did. But imagine a player with his level of playing these days… max ostro is probably the Jason Becker of these days
@@BartholomewBarnacleFerguson That lad is something else huh
Jason's family is absolutely incredible. They're angels. He was such an amazing guitarist that over 30 years later he still has pros visiting him 2022
Yes indeed, he's from what I call "The mighty EVH and Y J Malsteen guitar school" Bloody hell, life is a b... sometimes...I'm 51 now and still feel hurt about it...Hi from a froggie 🤗👀
Perpetual Burn album changed my life forever
God bless Jason Becker
Yes. 😊
So inspiring . I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma two years ago and not expected to live . Spread to my brain . It started in a thumb turning black which was soon amputated . Been playing guitar for 42 years but never had the Gift . My Gifts were in other talents . Jason is one of the people in this world that inspires me and keeps me going . The humility of everyone is beautiful
God bless you, we will all be in perfect harmony with each other in eternity, never again sickness and suffering. In the meantime, courage to you and to all of us.
Inspiring indeed. Good luck to you friend.
I’m so sorry. Are you anywhere near Philly? I’m praying for you and sending you positive energy, tune in. 🙏🏼♥️
Stay strong I hope the best
God bless you man
Thanks for sharing this experience amigo Gus! What a cool video 🙌🏼🔥
This video make me choke up. in this ugly world around us, there are still people who care about taking care of one another. Awesome, Gus. You are such a truly good dude!
That's exactly how I felt man. I'm going to watch this any time I need to remember that there is still some humanity in the world. This was such a heart-warming and touching video.
true
This world is only ugly if you live by main stream media and social media platforms. Go outside and talk with everyday people and you'll see there is more good and beauty than ugly.
I dream that one day there will be a cure, still in this life, for Jason Becker. He's a guitar genius. What a dream it would be to see him playing his guitar again at concerts around the world. Long life!
Yeah. I’m certain he would have been the greatest guitarist off all time in metal. Because he had the speed of a Malmsteen, he could shred like no other, he had magnificent melodic creativity. He had it all. He was so good God decided to nerf him.
There is no cure from ALS.
@@kingwinter2024 keywords "one day"
Dont dream, PRAY Bro! If you are at all inclined to do so, PLEASE pray for Jason everyday if you can, specifically for a miracle of healing! I do all the time.
@@xXAlmdudlerXx 100% he would’ve been the top player in the world. To me he was the greatest player when he could still play. No one had the speed, precision and composition that he did. It still blows my mind that he was only 18 when he recorded the Perpetual Burn album and he was much younger when he was composing the songs. It’s so unfair that if all the people who could’ve got ALS it was him.
Jason has to be one of the strongest minds out there. He really is loved by everyone. I just feel so bad him.he truly was and is 1 of the greats. Bless you Jason
I envy his spirit. If I was his in his shoes I'd be broken.
I cannot imagine how Jason feels being trapped and unable to do anything. Being surrounded by guitars and tons of musicians and unable to speak and play.. such an inspiration and his family for taking care of him is amazing.. esp his dad for coming up with a way of communication and its just amazing...
He was once asked if he still came up with ideas for guitar, he said “yes, all the time”
@@johnsheppard3740 i honestly wish that i had the gift lile Jason and to be able to thinkit out and get it out down... But he has it so much rougher having to communicate it through his caretakers to relay to the computer.... His family is a beautiful soul
how does it work
@@NikosKatsikanis look it up and you'll see
Ahhh! The jacket! So cool.
This was super cool. How incredible of a feeling, and maybe a little overwhelming, did you have right before walking into Jason's home? We all owe that man some gratitude for what he has given and continues to do for the guitarists of today. Thank you Gus for taking time to share this, as most of his admirers will never get an opportunity to do that.
Jason and Marty carved their names into my Fender HM that Greg Howe also carved/signed. (and a few other guys)
Got to see them at their last show with Cacaphony. It was the 4th of July and they were still stuck in our small city, so I hooked them up with the huge yearly metalhead bonfire party. The roadies were doing fireworks like little kids - because they had never gotten to since they lived in CA. Jason taught me a few techniques and riffs. TOTALLY cool dude.
Awesome story man totally jealous
@@michaelblack9458 I had no idea how lucky I was and that I was making memories. In the 80s-90s so many bands and guitar players came through the same 3 small bars in KC, Lawrence, and Topeka just before getting big enough to do stadium-sized gigs. Half my friends were in bands. The guitar player "scene" was at its peak. I was teen/20s... So I just thought it was all my "normal". The "perks" of only having a part-time job, being broke, and playing 3-12 hours a day. hah
RUclips recommended this vid to me because my buddy (the other guitarist in our band back then) was in town visiting me for the 2nd time in a decade, and I asked him for an instrumental guitarist recommendation.
Matttteeee WHATTT
Man that is so wicked, what an awesome experience
Jason is a real winning fighter against such a tough disease !
Not winning, but fighter
@@aleksandrmalkov9974 Nope ! If you read about Mr Baker's case , you will see that his life expectancy because of ALS was just a few years ! He already lives at least 3times this ! A real Winning Fighter !
He’s certainly beat the odds
Truly a winning prize fighter!
@@THEOMD57 if you're gonna copy paste your message at least spell the man's name correctly!
Isn't it enough what Jason has been through, but even putting that black napkin on his face, so inhumane 😢
Pure class, Gus. Great example to everyone to take a little time out of our lives to spread joy.
Jason is a mind blowing guitar master...Cacophony with Marty Freidman says it all.
Jason, a legend, nice to see him. Gus, much respect for honouring Jason.
Μπράβο!
I think Jason would love it if people actually PLAYED his guitars when they came over.
But I mean, wouldn't you be intimidated? You are in front of a guy who is a literal guitar hero and play one of his guitar lol. I know I would.
I’m sorry ,may I ask ,what’s wrong with Jason? Is he dying?
@Cleric he's been dealing with a condition called ALS, is a disease which it affects the body and nerves. He's been within it for a very long time but still is considered they greatest guitar shredders of all time.
This guy is true HEAVY METAL, he never gave up fighting
Ozzy (and many many more) could give a helping hand towards Jason’s treatment, I don’t understand why the super SUPER rich are not donating 6 figure sums (I may be wrong and they have done) , Jason is a pioneer and I’d bet both my balls he would have given what he could financially if it was the other way round. If anyone knows that the BIG BIG players in the music scene have given ,what is small change to them, towards helping Jason I would appreciate the info.
Must be hard to know how to act Gus. Jason you are a wonder. Life can be so cruel and Jason was a beautiful soul before ALS. It just leaves me feeling so disillusioned.

As someone who loves playing guitar,I know the feeling of being trapped in a body that doesn't work .Though I can walk and talk,a neuromuscular disease has kept me from pursuing one of my childhood dreams.Pat yourself on the back for doing what a lot of artists don't do" remembering those who have fallen".Thanks.
Hey everybody, ...if you are at all inclined to do so, PLEASE pray for Jason everyday if you can, specifically for a miracle of healing! I do all the time.
Such a shame a disease like als to steal a man's ability to function and play guitar, gonna check out Jason's material right after this comment
The picture of Jason Becker and Marty Friedman back to back is wonderfully endearing ♥♥
They should put out a concert DVD with all the guitar icons as a tribute to Jason! With Yngwie, Vai, Satriani, Gilbert, Gus G, George Lynch, Steve Stevens, Lukather and all the others!
God bless Jason Becker. Prayers for healing. Give him back to us.❤
I owe a lot to you both as a guitarist. It was never because I emulated either one of you, but because you both taught me that I had no reason to be shamed of the classical modalities that I love so much and both of you are in the natural voice in my soul. Gus - you are easily the best sounding act I've ever seen live. I've got a gaggle of guitar nerd buddies who spent their night with their jaws on the floor and everybody I know wants more Gus G. solo material. And Cacophony - well, that was a big part of the foundation - the bridge between the years when we marveled at Akira's work, and Jason and Marty filled that void. This was a great moment, and more proof that Gus is a man of substance for returning to his roots to pay homage.
Still sad to see this...Gus G did awesome work with Ozzy..great player
Jason's parents are the REAL HEROS
Thank you for showing us your visit with Jason and his family, he is truly an inspiration
Força Jason ! Aprendemos muito com você 🤝✨
Melted my heart seeing Jason again.
Jason pra mim é o símbolo maior do guerreiro!!!!!!!! Pena não termos tecnologia suficiente pra libertar uma mente tão poderosa de um corpo que não corresponde mais!!!!!!!!! Saudações ao grande mestre!!!!!!
You need to blur the license plates of his family's car that can be clearly seen at 0:30
Please. Jason Becker, you don't know how much I would like to see you. We all have ups and downs in life. You have my full support. Hear your melodious and professional way of your guitar playing. My name is Gadski and from Panama City I send you a lot of encouragement friend. Honestly, I love you very much. Many of us love you. You're not alone. Hugs and kisses.
It makes me so happy to see him 🥺❣️ and to know people haven’t forgotten about him !
Gus... Such an amazing experience for sure! You are so kind and cool ... It reminded me of your acoustic solo in Valley of fire... Flawless dude 🤘🙂🎸
JESUCRISTO ✝️ BENDIGA JASÓN 🎸 BECKER 💚
At the end of the day and it’s quiet … and to see that Jacket from Jason Becker … I bet there are not enough good words to describe that. 🤘🔥
@5:33 look at the affirmations his family has written on their board. A reminder that your mind is just as important when healing the body. God bless you Jason and your family.
I'd totally sell my soul in an instant for the chance to get a meet & greet with Jason... he's my all time favourite musician. You're one seriously lucky guy, Mr. G!
I dont think you have to sell your soul.. maybe try donating several thousand $$ to his nonprofit and ask if it's possible to meet him..
Congrats Gus! Jason and his family - Dave Lopez included are awesome people! Long time friends.
Jason will always be a legend of guitar world. Thanks, Gus, from all of us for your visit to his home. I hope God will have a mercy and will heal him. Also we have to say great thanks to his amazing family, God bless them two.
" I cant speak, I cant play, but this flesh has much more to say..."
Very cool to see Gus visit the wonderful Becker family. They have a shining light.
I'm still playing TRIUMPHANT HEART, that is such an excellent, diverse collection and recording.
What a terrific support team Jason has. Thanks for posting.
God bless gradient family story of struggle and overcoming.
I myself am disabled. Heavy group. Jason is an example and support for me! I take an example from him that we should not give up and we must fight against all odds! I love Jason's work so much, it's great!!
I wish Jason could recover 😞 I love him 😢 greetings from israel
Seeing those framed Cacophony album covers on the walls brought me to tears. I remember bringing Go Off home for the first time, standing in my mom's kitchen and putting the cassette into the boom box on the counter. I rested my head down between the speakers and as I listened I was brought to tears not only by the brilliance of the compositions but by the heart and soul put into the playing. I knew I was hearing absolute genius. To me, the Cacophony albums are some of the greatest electric guitar albums in history.
I will never not be amazed by the language the Becker family created. I've seen similar years down the road, and always give a little tip of the cap to Jason and his amazing family and friends.
It’s sad how Eddie is dead. Happy that Jason is still thriving. Well I don’t know if I thriving. Feel bad for Jason that he can’t play guitar anymore. Praying for you.
Στο 6:38 "Λέμυ, που'σαι αγόρι μου";;; Χαχαχαχα ποιο Έλληνας πεθαίνεις!!! Είσαι ωραίος Gus!
It makes me happy that he's surrounded by so much love and support. I can't imagine the depth of his strength, what a spirit he has.
What an experience! Jason is my hero and you, Gus G, you are so sweet and talented. Greetings from Italy. ❤️🇮🇹❤️🇮🇹
I'm 43.. funny how the "devil worshiping metal heads" are the some of the coolest and kindest people on earth.
En México tenemos al gran maestro José Cruz quien ha logrado vencer a esta horrible enfermedad, sería cosa de mandarle Asus médicos a esta leyenda Jason Becker
If it weren't for Valley of Fire, I wouldn't have discovered you or Mattias IA Eklundh, and I got Jason to thank for that, so, thanks Jason!
Jason has inspired me a lot and still is, not just musically but also life in general. There're many times I've wanted to just give up on everything, but it's people like Jason that always reminds me that there're those who're going through much harder times, for decades even, and that has taught me that life is worth fighting for.
My brother was friends with all these guys back in the day! He was also a shredder! For a time being he was also Eddie Van Halen's sponsor in sobriety!
So much for anonymity lol
Jason Bekcer should be the first ones to try neuralink in order to comunicate in a comfortable way, or even speak through a AI voice or smt.
I live in Richmond- I would never even be worthy of being close to one of the greatest guitarists to ever live!
Pray for Jason, he inspired many people to start playing and life repaying him with ALS?
So amazing! Cool visit and cool jacket! :) It's miracle that Jason is still with us and he will never be forget! And you are one of his legacy caretaker! Go on! Best wishes from Poland!
Jason - guitar God. What an unbroken man!
Really weird note board on the wall behind him at 6:09 Family must be hoping for a spiritual healing from god or something so that he can walk and breathe again and stuff. they have written notes that say he is going to be healed, going to walk again, going to eat and breathe again. very strange. I hope he does but what a weird set of things to write down.
Jason is a prime example of not only how cruel that life can be, but how resilient that the human spirit can be. What an absolutely righteous individual
Speed Metal symphony od Cacophony je nejlepší , co jsem kdy slyšel. Jason s Marty Friedmanem byli, jsou a budou nepřekonatelní,nejlepší ze všech.
0:41 this is the guitar that eddie van halen use while spend time with jason back in 96
I saw the figuring on that maple Carvin neck. Very nice.
Right on, Jason is a true legend, incredible player with the toughest possible fate.
That’s quite an honor Gus! All those cool guitars. That jacket does look good on you sir. Hope your doing well on tour and having a lot of fun. Looks like you are. God Bless you and rest of Firewind! Be safe y’all.
Damn its so sad to see such a talented person like that... life is not fair.
In my opinion no neo-classical/shred guitar album holds up the way Perpetual Burn does. It sounds as fresh today as it did almost 35 years ago, and I never grow tired of listening to it straight through. That can’t be said of any other mid to late 80s guitar albums.
It’s a shame what ALS did to Jason. If he was that great at 20-21, just imagine what he would have created in his true musical prime.
God bless him and his family. Thanks G for such a touching, inspirational and respectful video
I wish science would have found a cure by now. So sad.
all can you do is root for this inspirational A leaguer and Jason, just kidding of course I meant Jason a true A leaguer in every sense of the expression.
Donate to the Herman Li fundraiser for Jason, a real music fan does
What an idea to visit such place during the epidemic! To be honest.
Jason was my top 3 guitarist when I was a kid. This guy man cld flat light a 6 string anything the fuck up. The tone he had was like Eddie's, one of kind sound to my ear anyway. I've been a tone chaser for decades and Jason was the man in the 80"s. Still is in my opinion. Never met him but when your a kid u feel like u do know them bc of the beautiful art they put out in those glory days of real music. Today it's made on computers. No more reel tape recordings anymore so the true music has died. Jason and real musicians are only downloads in my phone. Jasons one hell of a fighter.
How amazing to visit with Jason. And so awesome that he is supported by guys like you.
sad he could play. holy shit he could play
Gus G - you are f’n awesome. I’m Greek as well. Two idols in one room. Was a big cacophony fan. Was excited to see him live with David lee roth band. He’s a fighter and his music will live on many generations from now
Wooow!!! What an amazing experience that must have been! And the jacket!!! Άξιος Κώστα, μπράβο σου!

Man breaks my heart seeing people who actually contribute to humanity in some way suffering when there are some many useless people livin the life being pure freakin evil. Much Love to Jason for inspiring so many people in the world.
Do you do evil or do you have a perfect grasp of right and wrong?

That is both impudent and untrue.
"I have a very strong grasp on what is right and what is wrong."
Ppl that interfere with the young claim they are "loving that child", rather than doing harm. See how subjective morality works now? Clearly you reject God because you seek to be your own god.
"But won't hesitate to do evil unto those deserving of it."
We have a winner!! Acknowledging evil PRESUPPOSES an objective moral standard. Thanks for playing.
@@garethwest9069I get what you're saying but morality is a human creation that is determined by what the majority agree on. So there is objective good and evil if we're measuring it by this definition. His point is that there's people who only contribute harm living peacefully.

The licks, solos, fills and rhythm parts that Jason contributed to DLR's A Lil Ain't Enough shows what immmense, incomprehensible talent he had. He was up there with Eddie!
I met Jason and Marty in Oakland, CA at the Omni touring on their 2nd Cacophony album Go Off. They had David T. Chastain opening. Jason was really good to us joking around. I remember him coming up to us out front before the show saying "hey, aren't you Blackie Lawless"? We looked nothing like Blackie Lawless and we were only 15 years old. I will always have a place in my heart for that guy. I was very surprised and happy when he started playing with David Lee Roth and getting more recognition.
