Perhaps a slight flicker of sadness that he cant have a shred himself. It must be a deeply frusturating illness. I believe the ALS he has is the same variety that ol Steven Hawking had. I hope Jason gets a long life like Professor Hawking got (Motor neuron disease often leads to rather short lifes, but Jasons been holding in there for quite some time now, so he might be "lucky" in that respect, like Prof Hawking). And I hope to hell the docs figure out how to reverse it one day.

I understand their intentions are good, but playing guitar right there seems like rubbing it in. Plus they sit next to him and he has to look allllll the way to the left...would hurt after a while. Glad they documented his guitars though. One of the best players.

It is absolutely heart breaking. If it doesn’t make you sad, you don’t have a heart. On the flip side of this coin, I’m sure there was some happiness seeing his guitars back in great condition and seeing someone find joy in playing them. It’s a damn shame that we were never able to see what would’ve come with Jason. Such an amazing musician.

ALS has taken his body but not his mind. He still composes music using a computer device that tracks his eye movements and he still releases albums to this day by getting his old friends and fellow musicians to interpret the music he writes and record it. Marty Friedman had Jason co-write a song on his 2014 album "Inferno." He said that the song that Jason co-wrote with him had their stink all over it and that the guy who Jason got to play the acoustic part he wrote played it exactly as Jason would have played it. Even with the limitations imposed upon Jason by his disease, he has found a way to continue making musical contributions.

I had a scare in my life where I thought I had ALS. It is one scary fucking disease and so shitty that anybody has to go through this. I have only learned of Jason in the last two years and this man is a prodigy. He is so strong and fighting his ass off. I will pray that this LEGEND regains his strength and shreds the piss out of those guitars again. I really respect Carvin for taking care of Jason and keeping his flame burning. I am really amazed at this story and Carvin earned a shit ton of points from me for not just writing him off. Well done Carvin and fight on Jason, you are an inspiration!

A big thanks to our friends at IK Multimedia. First, the Carvin V3M Amplitube software is amazing. 2nd, with all the restrictions at the airlines, we had to figure out how to pack, lights, stands, tripods, cameras etc along with some sort of recording rig. The iRig HD fit in the laptop case so we didn't have to spend time setting up microphones and plugging in loud amps. It was perfect for our needs and gave us total control in post when we edited the guitar playing along with the voice over from the video. Had we used one of Jason's guitar amps, there would have been no way to keep the loud amp from bleeding into the voice over microphone.

@@sweetguy19762 i get this is old, but i'm gonna answer you anyway lol i've had a great time with amplitube and my focusrite scarlet solo. 2ms latency through asio usb. tons of different entire rig setups to check out (including setups for becker, hendrix, slash, dime, and several others). they sound great. i've not compared how it sounds to the non-simulated versions, and i'd honestly expect that they'd sound 'better' than the sim amp, but unless you do such an experiment, it'd probably be hard to tell the two apart.

It's a shame that Carvin no longer uses the Jackson-style headstocks like they used to. In my opinion those old Carvins look the best.

I agree, but for legal reasons, we cannot do that headstock.

I’m blessed to have a beautiful, one-Of-a-kind 1988 2nd gen left-handed Carvin Ultra V with that headstock shape. Carvin didn’t offer LH Vs at the time, but we took a chance and sent a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check and an order and six weeks later Carvin/Kiesel won me over forever with what is still my favorite, most comfortable, and best sounding guitar. Never seen another like it on the planet. I love you guys for making the guitar of my dreams that’s been with me almost all my life. When I leave this world my other guitars are going to my daughter - the V goes in the grave with me.

I still have mine. Reverse headstock, green flametop. Looks much like the guitar Craig was holding in the catalog. The bridge pickup finally died after 25 years.

As a partial quadriplegic(c3-c6 incomplete, meaning all limbs are affected in some way), this hits hard. I lost my ability to shred, as well. I love watching my buddies play my old gear. It also kinda sucks, but I'm just happy to be alive and to be able to enjoy music. Life is a cruel bitch sometimes. What can ya do?

Im from New Zealand, and I'm 38 years old, been playing guitar for 31 years... Its only in the last 6 or so months I've discovered Mr. Becker, and (as a "guitarist at hearts / metal head"), I feel so left behind. If I ever had the finances too visit Master Becker at his home residence, I'd take it up in a heartbeat, just to say thank you.

I remember reading about his diagnosis back when it was first disclosed. And then 10 years later I'm in a bad car accident where they were treating my situation as MS. Which scared the shit out of me when it happened. I nearly lost my ability to play the guitar yet alone trying to hold a guitar pick between my fingers and not drop it. My second fear was falling off a stage due to balance and coordination issues to my condition. I even had trouble remembering musical pieces that I had known by heart.
17 years later I've recovered all my ability back. After a long hiatus of not playing any music since 2010, I picked up my guitar again for the first time in 2017. It's a long road back to where I used to be as a guitar player, but I'm on my way. I admire Jason fighting back against this disease ALS. Truly an inspiration!
