So that post master was one of the most amazing people. Some of our international postcards didn’t have enough postage so she got enough info from the postcards to find us online and send us a message. I was able to send her the rest of the postage so that everyone got their cards. 😍
What a great adventure. Loved the trip through the permafrost tunnel. How great is it that you had a chance to meet one of your subs and they took you on the tour of what they know best. Safe travels as you start your migration south. PS that's a lot of post cards 8)- Kyle
Your Alaska videos, and Craig & Victoria’s videos have complemented each other well. We really enjoyed watching both of you. We’re wondering how long you two couples met? How long you’ve known each other.
Thanks so much! That means a lot to hear. I know we were all worried that if we had too much crossover we might annoy anyone who subscribed both channels. We met in the winter of 2021-2022. We had followed each other on IG and ended up in the same boondocking area outside Phoenix. We share a lot in common and became fast friends. That summer we also met up a few times as we traveled up California. Lots of great memories from that trip as well - but no video to prove it really. 😂 -J

You took the same route as we did in 2019. We stayed at the free camping in Chicken so you can see what we did if you like. I of course have a video of it. We also left via Top of the World, bought the sticker and we headed to the same ferry. We went up the Dempster Highway to the Arctic Ocean at Tuktoyaktuk, more friendly called Tuk. For us, Alaska was a one and done. I am glad we did the trip, but I would not want to redo it again. Glad you shared your experiences. But you missed the best part of Fairbanks and that is the car museum. I have a video on that too if you are curious. Take care in the Yukon and I will see you next Friday.
unsolicited tip inbound: wash window, use razor blades to scrape windows (while wet), wash again, apply rainx. The razor blades take off the little tiny things; you can actually feel when its cleaner. love the adventures.
I have really enjoyed following you guys and Wild RV as you traveled thru Alaska, phenomenal story telling as I watched in awe the cool adventures you went on.Kinda sad it’s coming to an end. Watching Trinity become a member of your family was very heartwarming. I am looking forward to seeing where your adventures take you now! Have safe travels to the lower 48.
It's been an absolute treat watching y'all every Friday from gate guarding in Texas all the way to Alaska (as well as your older videos). The algorithm drew me in with Trinity, but your awesome content got me hooked - I think you two made the right choice in treating the channel like a full time gig for this go-around. Not gonna lie, someone was cutting some onions as this episode wrapped up - on our last trip we hit up a lot of the same places and it was great particularly reminiscing with my wife as you made your way from Homer to Talkeetna / Denali. I'm really looking forward to your next adventures!
Aw! Thank you so much for your generosity and encouragement! Someone was cutting onions for me when Craig and Victoria left! I was telling Kalyn "And we have to film things today!?!??" Oh I love the ending… Joseph… that was cheeky!! As I live in 🇳🇿 New Zealand, I don’t think I’ll ever go to Alaska, so thank you for showing me what it likes. Much appreciated ☺️
Another great video! I enjoyed seeing the permafrost facility. My husband and I visited Alaska last fall. We rented a car in Anchorage, drove to Fairbanks via 1/the Parks Highway, which was a nice drive. Then we drove back to Anchorage via 2/Richardson, and 1/Glenn Highway. There were miles-long construction zones on the Richardson, where a pilot car drove us through, and we navigated foot-deep mud in places. I thought our rented sedan was going to get stuck in the mud. Much more of an adventure than I wanted, lol! Were there any construction zones like that on the roads you drove on? I can't imagine trying to drive an RV through that (though there were of course people doing just that).
I think we only hit 3 significant construction zones in Alaska - but none were that scary! Pilot cars at all of them. Maybe we just hit them in good weather! -J
Alrighty then! Thanks for the ride to Alaska! You took us on some awesome travels! Have a safe trip back! (don't know where you're going tho, you don't have a home)

I thought the Chicken road was almost as bad as the worst road in Alaska, the Dalton. I drove both this August and felt the Chicken Road was the worst “paved” road in Alaska, with the Dalton being the worst road period. Walk in peace, guys!
Finally got a chance to sit down and watch my favourite RUclipsrs! For now living vicariously through your adventures. Hope to do something like this with my wife some day!

You never put out a bad episode. I was wondering if you feel taking the motorcycle was worth it. The extra weight? Time and effort setting up and taking down? etc. Maybe that will be addressed in the next episode?
We have discussed selling it - or getting a toy hauler, all things are always on the table. A couple things to note - It gets used more than you see. Videos encompass 1 day of the week (generally). We don't film 24/7. At the moment we don't have good action cameras so if I ride solo (which is 75% or more of how it get's used) - no filming. But the bigger thing for me personally is peace of mind. Last year at beet harvest I would have been up a creek without it (you can watch our videos on that). 2 years ago when our truck was in the shop for a month and we were stuck at a boondocking spot I used the bike to haul water jugs back and forth (no videos on that). A year or so back we broke down on the side of the road and I was able to use the bike to get to town to pick up tools to fix what needed to be fixed (also...no videos on that. lol) So to me - worth it. To someone else? Maybe not. Thanks so much for your kind words! Really appreciate you taking the time to give us a positive push! It helps more than you know! -J
Wow that underground permafrost tour was amazing! I've done a few cave tours but that was really different I enjoyed watching that a lot. The rainX bit, I gave up trying to use it because it doesn't last like it did 20 years ago and I'd have to do it every few days. When it works it's amazing, but my hands can't be putting it on twice a week to keep it on there. Let us know how it goes for you in the next video.
You’re so lucky! When we stopped at the visitor center the mile 0 marker had not been set up yet. The sign said it was taken down for restoration. We didn’t opt for the certificate either. 😉 Safe travels!
I've done the waxing but I always end up with a film. High probability I'm doing it wrong. But the rainx and orange washer fluid combo is helping a lot! -J
More info coming on that over the next few videos but short answer is to go see Family in NY (in a bit of a round about way) before fleeing the cold to Florida. -J
Oh lord I will never get ‘chiii-kinnn!’ outta my head! LOL. That was so much fun to experience with you! My first veg all day and watch none stop RUclips in FOREVER! Thankfully I got see this vlog from y’all.

I don't know them personally, so if I were to cold call someone I'd want the collab to not look one sided. They have 250+K subscribers and we have 35K...so it's hard for me to make a pitch that doesn't seem like I'm not just trying to piggy back off their success. 😁 -J
1. You missed the opportunity for a rim shot with the cold feet joke. 2. Another windshield tip: use an orbital buffer (you can borrow mine) to apply the rain-x. You'll use more product, but it really works it into the glass. 3. Side quest as you cross back across the us to the east coast: Santa Claus, Indiana. 4. Mentone, Indiana has a giant concrete chicken egg statue. 5. My postcard was from Chicken, Alaska...perfect. 6. Those are definitely sock shoes, and can be worn inside and out. ;)
That was really cool to get a tour from your friend Roy. I'm not fond of those frost heaves going to Glennallen either. I've spent lots of time & summers in Fairbanks, for about 5 years in the early 2000's I worked on the Alaska Rail Road and spent most of my seasons in the summer being on board the train. I have yet to get to experience Chena Hot Springs. Every time I have tried to venture that way something has happened to prevent it. Last time in 2021 it was due to a serious wildfire out that way, which caused them to close Chena Hot Springs during my stay (I was there for another job that gave me the opportunity to help the store I worked at located there). Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I've really enjoyed watching you guys, as well as Craig & Victoria's videos. I'm excited to continue following for future adventures!
Awesome! Yeah, Roy was so kind to invite us! An experience to remember for sure. Just remember...don't stay in the hot springs after dark! (I have zero data to back this up...just...being safe. lol) -J
Have you heard of this state called Florida? 😁 I lived there for 6 years and Craig grew up there. Flip flops become the primary shoe choice for many. In this case - I was simply dressed for the hot springs and didn't want to change 3 times. 😂 -J
You had to head out soon, cause the Top of the World Highway closes early for the Winter. In real time, (not your delayed to edit time), the Highway according to what I saw on the internet was that it closed last Sunday. So you didn't get to do the Chicken tradition of shooting your underwear out of the small cannon.
That's interesting. Was that recent? We had starlink service at that boondocking spot and that was right at the start of the highway. I don't think we went further north than that. The farther north we went the slower the service got - but we were never without it anywhere on this trip. Just our experience! -J
@@aaronhendrickson 3 words. Lower. Gas. Prices. 😂 We were originally going to drive all the way across Canada on our way to New York. Last year at beet harvest I would have been up a creek without it (you can watch our videos on that). 2 years ago when our truck was in the shop for a month and we were stuck at a boondocking spot I used the bike to haul water jugs back and forth (no videos on that). A year or so back we broke down on the side of the road and I was able to use the bike to get to town to pick up tools to fix what needed to be fixed (also...no videos on that. lol)
So to me - worth it. To someone else? Maybe not.
Thanks so much for your kind words! Really appreciate you taking the time to give us a positive push! It helps more than you know! -J
The ice museum seemed a bit spooky. I loved the permafrost tunnel. It was very interesting. The North Pole did put me in the mood for Christmas.
Ice museum was actually pretty noisy with so many people in but I think it would be a little creepy to stay in it overnight.
Awesome! It was so crazy unique. -J
Have been watching both of you guys! Sad to see them leave hope you both get back home safe! I wear my slippers outside too!
Haha! Team slippers outside! 😂
Halfway back to NY - only one incident so far for us. LOL Self induced though and everything is fine! -J
We did receive our second post card, and I think it is from the batch you purchased at the Christmas store. Thank you, both.
Yay!!! We enjoyed showing a few on the videos for little Easter eggs for some of the PCC! -J
It's me or Trinity's getting chubby? Better watch out, it's hard to lose the weight.
No body shaming allowed on this channel. 😂
Her diet is pretty consistent! -J
You’re so lucky! When we stopped at the visitor center the mile 0 marker had not been set up yet. The sign said it was taken down for restoration. We didn’t opt for the certificate either. 😉 Safe travels!
Hate it when that happens! Get somewhere and it's closed or there's construction etc. 😭 -J
So you can add rainx additive to the washer fluid and keep the windshield cleaned longer. Also waxing the windows will do the same
I've done the waxing but I always end up with a film. High probability I'm doing it wrong. But the rainx and orange washer fluid combo is helping a lot! -J
I had fun in Alaska with yall and maybe I missed it but where are we going next? Have fun wherever you may be🤗
More info coming on that over the next few videos but short answer is to go see Family in NY (in a bit of a round about way) before fleeing the cold to Florida. -J
Oh lord I will never get ‘chiii-kinnn!’ outta my head! LOL. That was so much fun to experience with you! My first veg all day and watch none stop RUclips in FOREVER! Thankfully I got see this vlog from y’all.

It was a fun way to say thank you to those who supported the channel! We may bring it back sometime - time will tell! -J
"You guys help me appreciate it." Love it!
😂 I thought that might be one of the best lines of the video too. -J
We have enjoyed both videos. It's cool to see each video with difference view points.
So glad you enjoyed them! -J
Should have done a collab with @somersinalaska while at the north pole
I don't know them personally, so if I were to cold call someone I'd want the collab to not look one sided.
They have 250+K subscribers and we have 35K...so it's hard for me to make a pitch that doesn't seem like I'm not just trying to piggy back off their success. 😁 -J
I love all the footage, but I admit my favorite part was seeing Trinity have so much doggy fun.
Not shocked at all. 😀 Trinity is always going to bring a smile! -J
Same here! I love the animals.
@@neicymcgrath1115
6. Those are definitely sock shoes, and can be worn inside and out. ;)
Nice! I gotta try that sometime! I do feel like buffing things out is a weak point of mine. -J
Really enjoy your videos, best wishes
Thank you so much! More coming!! They don't end with Alaska. 😁 -J
Ok we need to start a fund for slippers for Joseph. 😂 or a vote that he should get slippers
What are we lookin' at.... a $20 go fund me page? 😂 -J
Love Somers In Alaska channel. They live in North Pole. I think they stayed at that Hot Springs Resort before. Looks really familiar.
Very cool! There's a few awesome RUclips creators based in Alaska! -J
@OpenRoading Also watch Sean In Alaska. He posted it was 29f today. I'm wearing shorts in Texas, lol.
@@builtontherockhomestead9390 Yep! We left on time. LOL -J
You were very fortunate to have visited the Permafrost Research Tunnel.
I know!!! Roy was so generous to reach out and offer! -J
What are those things covering the rear doors of the truck?
They are pet protectors. They keep the pets safe from Craig by keeping them from scratching the doors of his truck. 😄 -J
Every one should have Alaskan sock
🧦 😂 -J
(I have zero data to back this up...just...being safe. lol) -J
@@OpenRoading That is a very valuable safety tip!
I have enjoy your vacation in Alaska and Canada
Glad we brought a smile! It’s been a tremendous trip. Not sure I’d call it a vacation though… 😂 -J
Rain X orange or rain X green, with bug Remover in your reservoir.
Rain X orange is indeed my washer fluid of choice! -J
Nice. But dudes in flip flops out in public? 🤣
Have you heard of this state called Florida? 😁 I lived there for 6 years and Craig grew up there. Flip flops become the primary shoe choice for many. In this case - I was simply dressed for the hot springs and didn't want to change 3 times. 😂 -J
Great video and amazing trip
Thank you! -J
Ummm....the tradition of what again?! 👀 -J

Sad to see your Alaska trip coming to a close. Can't wait to see your next adventure. Safe travels 🙏
It's crazy that the summer is coming to a close - but do not worry! More open roading adventures are on their way! -J
Should try the windshield washer solution with rain x in it. Works well and you don't need wipers during misty rains.
I've got it! Orange stuff for the win. I just haven't thought it does well enough on it's own to keep the passenger happy. 😃
@@OpenRoading yeah, using both is the key!
😢😢😢😢😢 Know polor bear 🐻❄?
No polar bear sightings for us this time around (other than the zoo). -J
Another RV couple took the top highway and found out. There is no Internet at all. Starlink didn't work.
That's interesting. Was that recent? We had starlink service at that boondocking spot and that was right at the start of the highway. I don't think we went further north than that. The farther north we went the slower the service got - but we were never without it anywhere on this trip. Just our experience! -J
@@OpenRoading what will it take to get a few of you to drive through Canada? East to West or West to East. Option 2: circle the border.
@@aaronhendrickson 3 words.
Lower. Gas. Prices.
😂
We were originally going to drive all the way across Canada on our way to New York. Then we did the math on fuel and decided to drop into Montana and come across the US instead. When you get 10 miles to the gallon you save a few hundred bucks simply by changing your route. -J

Hi, how are you doing? I just curious the last date you were in Alaska.
Originally it was going to be August 25th - but we ended up hanging out in a boondocking spot for a couple of extra days waiting for the weather to clear for the Top of the World so we Actually crossed over into Canada on August 27th. -J
Thanks

Thank you so much for putting this together! I lived 15 minutes from The Santa Claus House for 4 years in the late 90s when I was stationed at Eielson AFB. Brought back a lot of memories. So glad you guys got to spend a little time around there. Thanks again!
Saw some fighters (F22s I think) parked at Eielson when we drove out on our way to top of the world! -J
@@OpenRoading Yep, they’ve got F-22s now. When I was there, there were sister squadrons: A-10s and F-16s. I was on the 16s. There were ANG KC-135s there too. I haven’t kept up with what’s there now other than hearing they’ve got F-22s. I’d live there forever if I could. Unique place.

Chicken is an odd place. Noraly (itchy boots) profiled a bar in town where women cut off their underwear, literally blow it up and then hang it up. Men leave their baseball caps. You can't make this up. Strange.
