I agree, the larger coach wins out by far.
After 7.5 years full timing in a Dutch Star 43’ coach we built a house, sold the 43' Diesel Pusher and moved on. One year later we decided that a 24' Murphy Bed coach would be fun. We did a trip from Southeast Florida to Northwest Oregon and back over the summer of 2023. The fun was short lived. We now have a 40' Dutch Star Diesel pusher.
The use of the Open Roads App is limited with 24-gallon fuel tank. Even at 12 mpg it means in a 350-mile day, which I like to drive, two stops for fuel are needed, aggravating and time consuming. Also, some time we could save 20 cents more per gallon if we could only go 50 miles more but that could not happen. Washer and dryer are important. 45-gal black tank and 65 gray are important. 105-gallons of fresh water is important. With 50 amp you don’t worry about shedding the loads. Three A/C’s, Oasis water heater, floor heat, microwave, Induction cook top and coffee maker all work at the same time. The ride in a Dutch Star is quite and the air bags make it smooth.
Some of the newer systems you were talking about are in most new Diesel pushers. It isn’t fair to compare a nine year old coach with a new coach of any size.

After a lifetime of RV adventures (since I was 5 years old), we finally have the perfect RV for us. It's a Coach House 271, just under 28 feet. #1 I can drive it so my husband isn't doing all the driving. #2 It has permanent twin beds in the rear which is enough separation for us. #3 Well built, fiberglass shell means more worry free travel. It is smaller than we've had in the past but we figured it out, bought a Maverick to haul and we put larger items in the truck bed. And like moving from a house to an RV, once you figure out what you really need, you don't miss all the other stuff.

As someone who has been over the road for 5 years at 23 years old- I can’t go smaller than a 45’ diesel pusher.. I love the dishwasher, washer dryer stacker units… I love the big tanks… and the living space in the front with the bedroom in the back. We also have to have a bath and a half as we have found it’s amazing! So needless to say- I am spoiled also!

@@christianslater8825 my 38.5 footer has all that, a bath and a half, stacked W&D, dishwasher, central vac and enough room for my grandson to play VR in the kitchen and I have a trampoline set up at the foot of the bed…just a smaller closet space, fits into smaller spaces and fewer tires to worry about 🤷‍♀️

We - hubby and I and two dogs - went from a 21 foot travel trailer to a 28 foot Class C motorhome with the Jeep towed behind. The Class C allows me to take my kitchen with me, but is small enough to fit into some of the older, smaller state parks that we love.
No washer or drier - not an issue. Finding a gas station that we can maneuver into and out of - sometimes an issue. In fact, we have some stories to share about gas stations! Just let me say this - I love "adventures" - hubby doesn't!
Full-timing RVers now for 7 years - hoping for many more. From a couple married 58 years and hoping for many more.

My wife and I recently sold our home and started our full time adventure. We work remotely and try to move every 1 to two weeks. We currently have a 2024 Grand Surveyor 267RBSS travel trailer. At 31’ long, we haven’t had issues finding sites that work. We tow it with a 2023 Ram 2500 diesel. We have a cap on the truck as I would feel naked without a good variety of tools.
Pros of our set up include maneuverability, we like the layout of the trailer. We have not found ourselves lacking for anything. We did downsize A LOT but less is more for us. Ive made many mods on our rig to make it better for us.
Cons, we have had things break on the trailer. I have fixed all of them and made them stronger than before. We wish we had gotten a trailer with a higher payload. We don’t feel lacking but we do try to get rid of something if we buy something new to keep the weight in check.
We always love your videos. We hope ours improve over time and offer inspiration and help to others as they follow their dreams.

Great info...as always. My wife and I are not full-timers (we did that years ago aboard our sailing vessel, Pacific Dream). Land yachting was never in our plans. But when one of my doctors asked if he could put me on two more meds in addition to the two he already prescribed, I balked. Instead, I told him that Judy and I would buy one large pill bottle, roll it down the road until my lungs got happy and park it there. Hence, land yachting entered our life. Our vessel of choice is a 40-foot Beaver Monterey, Class A that we absolutely love. We don't travel far - the Oregon Coast - a mere four-hour drive from our Central Oregon home, where we spend two to three months a year, and indulge my fascination for nature photography. (Nope, I don't sell my work, but I do put on the occasional show). What do we like about the Beav? Space, room separation, ease of living, travel comfort, storage and exquisite workmanship. Would we consider down-sizing? No. Our style of RVing doesn't require finding places that can accommodate our rig. In fact, we pretty much stay at the same resort. Boring? Not at all! Hey, when our original RV (double-headed sloop) blazed along at a brisk 6-knots, all we had to find was a place to drop the hook. Now we park on a concrete pad trimmed with a beautiful privet hedge. The Beav is our second home. Thanks for all you do to make RVing the fascinating lifestyle it is. Well done!

We just went from a 2019 Tiffin Wayfarer TW to a 2022 Tiffin 36SH. The main reason is that my wife works and we are on different sleep schedules. She would set up her computer and monitor in the bedroom and take it down and set it up in the salon and take it down. That really got old. The nice thing on the Wayfarer was the twin beds that can be made into a king. The "separation" thing is important. We live in Bozeman and the RV is parked in our driveway all summer, as there's no better place to be. We leave in September or October and go out for 3 months, store it in Texas or AZ and drive the pickup home. We then go out in February for 2 - 3 months and bring it home to BZN. We get along just fine, but having alittle space is a good thing. With the 36SH she can just leave her stuff set up when we're parked and not have to worr about it. We've only been on one trip and that was bringing it home from Mesa, AZ. The first "real" trip starts next Wednesday, 9/25/24, with a 3 month adventure. Using the washer and dryer will be an experience.

Last year, we downsized from a Newmar Bay Star (gasser, 33', no washer/dryer) to a 2015 Winnebago Via (25' class A on Springer chassis) that is very similar to a lot of the Views with rear twin beds and a small (sofa) slide-out right behind the captain's chairs. We loved the size of our Bay Star, but as I'm no longer 73, I was ready to downsize to a rig that is more comfortable to drive, especially in construction zones and a bit more fuel efficient. We don't do as many longer trips anymore, so most of our trips our from 3 nights to a week or so, and hopefully we'll take some longer trips if some health issues allow. Bottom line, we've adapted and are enjoying the Via. Towing a car, we get 12-14 mpg and as you mentioned, it's so easy to find a campsite. We usually have full hook-ups, but we just did two nights with only electric and we made out fine. But, I totally agree that what size and type of rig works for one camper doesn't work for others. Having RVing since 1988, the most important point is to enjoy whatever rig you can afford and just make some memories. Our best memories are camping with our boys in pop-up trailers. We didn't have much space or many amenities, but we did some exploring and had so much fun and on a "beer budget"!

We are driving a Winnebago 24 ft.View with the corner bed. We are 1/2 time and have 77,000 miles on it. We have been to Alaska on one coast and PEI on the other coast. We never stay more than 3 days anywhere so we move fast. Our 24 ft works for us because we can park pretty much anywhere like you said. We do not have a toad and have rented a car in the Keys and San Antonio. Also we have used Uber. We do carry bikes with us. I am an early riser and just pull the curtain on the corner bed to have separation. We do a lot of dry camping and have never had issues with our tanks. Parking at trail heads can be a problem but we arrive very early to park and then have our breakfast. I would love a washer and dryer. If I were full time I can imagine I would want more space. Ours works for the 6-7 months a year we are in it. We really enjoy your videos.

We have a class A Allegro Openroad 28'. It has an awesome floor plan, separate sleeping area with walk around bed, separate shower, toilet/bathroom. Don't miss the waher/dryer, prefer to have that space for storage. The length makes it easier to find camp sites and also "stealth camp" to some degree. We do have a toad so mobility once set up is not an issue.

I have a 2003 Fleetwood 39’ 4-slide Diesel pusher. We’ve had it for 7 yrs and we are selling, although it is a beautiful RV and is sooo spacious we are looking for something smaller, the laundry machine is wonderful and if we still went for long periods I’d say absolutely worth having, just for the convenience, We only go occasionally and really it’s just the 2 of us. So for the sake of weekend camping we are looking for a simple trailer 25’ to pull with our truck. It’ll be an adjustment, we’ve had a Class C and now an A and we are used to just popping up to use the bathroom or getting a snack, lol. But I truly have enjoyed having my Diesel pusher. So much luxury.

We bought a Winnebago 2024 D a year ago. For 7 years prior we had a 35’ 5th wheel. We travel for 3-4 months straight in the summer every year. We definitely had to take a lot less “stuff”, but we loved it. So easy to drive, park, find campsites, and fuel. Almost 70 years old, so expect we will have this unit till we have to quit RVing….which we hope will be another 10 years….

We are on the other end of the spectrum with a 12 foot travel trailer! It only has a 9 foot floor. We aren't full timers, but spend about six months on the road. Love that we don't need a big tow vehicle and are very manurvalble. It has most everything we need, table that converts to a queen size bed, bunk bed, bathroom, clothes closet. kitchen with large counter, sink , stove, refrigerator. Only disadvantage is having to put the table up every day, but only takes about a minute. We have been from Key West Florida to Alaska and the Artic Ocean. Don't see getting anything different at the point, it works for us!

We also like our separation of living space. I’m like Phil an onboard washer/dryer is a must have. We aren’t sure how much longer we can continue full time as we are getting older, but so far we continue to enjoy our life style. Happy travels everyone!! ❤

We downsized from a Winnebago Sunstar 29V (30 feet) to a View 24D (25.6feet). We love the 24D. We lost the private bedroom, but the floorplan has a nice space separation where someone could go to bed early or sleep late and the other person can use a big U-shaped dinette and the turn around chairs. There is so much light because no major windows are blocked by the bed. There are privacy curtains that can be hung if you need to. Our grandchildren use the dinete and loft for sleeping. There is more than the usual counter space and great windows over the kitchen counter to enjoy the outdoors. The kitchen has a double sink. We had to downsize our "stuff", but found pleanty of storage space in a pantry, kitchen drawers, a hanging closet and space under all the dinette cushions. The refrig is bigger than the one in the Sunstar. I like that the bathroom is at the back of the unit. We can both drive it and easy to get in and out of just about anywhere. Love the better gas mileage. We are not fulltimes, and for us, we think the 24D floorplan is perfect even for a month long trip.

Great subject and excellent commentary. In 2002 we retired and began our fulltime RVing adventure. We were in a 40' diesel pusher and visited all 48 contiguous states and eastern Canada and the Canadian Maritimes. In 2008 we gave up the lifestyle due to health concerns. In 2019 we decided to purchase a new motorhome and enjoy the lifestyle as extended campers as long as we can. Because of size limitations and the cost of getting into a big rig again, we purchased a 32' gas puller with a king-sized bed and two full bathrooms. We miss the washer/dryer but are able to visit state and national parks we couldn't fit into in our big rigs. We also miss the quiet and smooth ride of DP and limit our drives to 200-300 miles a day. While my wife would drive the DPs, she won't drive the gas puller because of the handling. With a few thousand dollars of upgrades, it is safe to drive but is still quite fatiguing. I converted the second shower into storage, so we now have enough room for our 2-to-3-month trips. Our holding tanks are fine with 37 gallon black and 74 gallon grey, but the 50-gallon freshwater tank limits our dry camping. I've found we use about 10 gallons of water a day for two of us. We have only driven this rig through about half the states as our travel is now event oriented. In 2025 we will do a 39-day RV Caravan of the Rockies and western state plus a few rallies including the FRVA international rally in Perry. I've looked at the smaller rigs almost enviously but as you point out, the holding tank capacity is a concern. Now that we are older, the second bathroom is also a nice feature to have, and we can't see giving it up.

We are in a 37' 2013 Thor Palazzo 36.1. A must have for my wife was the bath and a half. It has it's advantages and disadvantages, mainly two different black tanks. We love our Splendide washer and dryer. We did have to adjust to doing smaller loads, and doing laundry multiple days of the week, but it didn't take long to adjust. A huge like for both of us is the full length slide which really opens up floor space in the coach. The downside to the full length slide is the weak Schwintek slide system which we had to replace after a year and a half. The positive side of that repair is we were able to get the heavy duty Vroom system and have had no problems since. A downside to our model with the second half bath is it cost counter space in the kitchen, but we bought a small butcher block top table that sits up in the kitchen area and folds flat to store for travel. We have been full time pretty much since December of '23 but do have a lot to use as home base with full hookups. We can't imagine going down to a Class C in size, and are very satisfied with our Palazzo.

What you say is right on Point, we started in a Truck Camper, then because of using a side by side, we went to a 43 ft Toy Hauler, which was real nice but we missed going to state parks, so we got another Truck Camper (Lance 1172) to use in the winter time, the toy hauler was nice for us, the grandkids and side by side, as the grandkids got to be teens, they didn't have time for RVing anymore sports and girls....So the toy Hauler is gone, and the Truck Camper is up for sale, we now have a 30ft Super C which works for state and National parks, tows our jeep and other toys Sometimes we miss the large space of the 43, but not having to find large campgrounds is the best.

Yes it’s a deal breaker if it doesn’t have a washer & dryer, our old motorhome had a combo washer & Dyer. Having a separate washer & dryer is huge, you can wash & dye at the same time. Have made 2 , 7 wk long trips crossing the country & loved our gas milage, easy parking, boon docking & I can drive as well to give hubby a break. Instead of towing a vehicle, we just rent when we want to tour around in an area more when parked for a wk. Now all this said, we've been talking about upgrading to a bit more space, maybe 28' - 30' and trying to decide whether a TT or 5th wheel. We would love a w/d, recliners & we want to keep separate space as my hubby sleeps longer as well.. Other than that, it is very easy to drive/park/set up. Fits our needs. We do not full time. We do tow a boat with it. The gas mileage is just about the same as pulling the boat with our Tundra. Having read many of the comments, I would repeat what some of them say, "It depends on how you are going to use it".
For me if we were to go full time a washer -dryer is a must because of my atopic dermatitis and asthma I cannot use either if anything with fragrance has been in it, and now days essentially everyone uses scented laundry detergent and scented dryer additives, but back in the 60s as far as I could tell there was hardly anyone.
For us the separation of bedroom and living room is a must. Like Stacy I get up 2-4 hours before my husband and it would be difficult to do so since he is a light sleeper and I like a dark room.
Size wise we recently downsized from a 35 foot 5th wheel to a 25 foot sprinter Class-C. Yes it is tight at time. Yes I would like more storage and would like one with a larger kitchen counter. But this can be solved with different floor plans, but for now since we are more part-timers some-timers this works for us. Ask me in a few years when we are retired and the answer will most likely be different.

Our 2014 Allegro RED 33AA is perfect for the two of us. The separate bedroom is a must because I go to bed first and get up before my wife. It gives us space so we still like each other when we go off for two months. Kidding, well I am at least. We might try something smaller like a class C but for now we will stay with what we have. I hope you feel better soon Phil. We just got over Covid that we got in Western NY. over the summer.

We would have the same two issues you had - no washer and dryer and no division of space. We sold, unfortunately, our towable. While space, washer/ dryer were perfect, we were stuck due to care for my elderly mother and we were just paying storage. Hubby hated towing it! We didn’t have it long enough for me to get the courage to try. I would like to try again with a drivable, hubby doesn’t seem to be interested in. 😞. Love your videos. I live vicariously through your adventures. 😄

My wife and me looked for literally 2 years before we bought our first travel trailer. We had made a list of our must haves, etc. After having it for 2 years we decided that we needed something with a little more room. We now have a fifth wheel and have been living in it full time for the last 2 1/2 years. So your right you may think you know what you want, but until you actually get in it and use it for a while, your wants and don’t wants will change. We are very happy with our fifth wheel now.

I would not give up my washer and dryer and especially my 1.5 baths. We have a 35 foot gas 2022 Winnebago Class A. I did not want diesel but when getting gas (we flat tow a pickup) the stations do give the diesel users more space to pull in and out thanks to the semis.

I am also the sole driver of our 33' Tiffin (gasser, not diesel). I wouldn't know what to do with myself if my wife was comfortable driving! Ours is a 2013 so I get jealous watching my brother-in-law controlling his newer 5th wheel from his phone. We don't have nor do we want the extra weight of a Washer/Dryer. We are not Full Timers, so that may be the difference. We feel like our coach (2013 Tiffin 32CA) is close to perfect for us. I'd prefer a floor plan that has the TV across from the coach and not next to it. We are mostly Weekend Warriors so we don't need a lot of bells and whistles. Thanks for the recap!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. We have yet to embark on our RV life and are trying to decide on our first rig. We love the portability and ease of setup in a 24' (ish), but we love having a defined "bedroom" and living area, as well as some distance between kitchen and bathroom. Washing machine is not a deal breaker, but what a nice bonus! 😆 Don't like the Murphy bed floorplan; prefer the double twin setup. Our search continues, but you've given us some valuable things to consider, and we appreciate it!

We love the ability to unhook and go with our tow vehicle but as we age something a bit easier to drive is on our radar. Tank sizes are very similar to our current ones so no issue there. We don’t live in ours so the separation has never been an issue. But having a sole driver definitely is an issue. Thanks for a great review! Oh, and let’s not forget Camp Winnebago ❤

So, you asked about pros and cons of our particular choices. I had a nice class C with 2 slides for a year (full-time while working). It was very roomy, i liked having room for tools and spare stuff for boondocking. It was also great to bring a buddy on a roadtrip - good separation and 2 beds.
I ended up giving it up because it was too big to keep warm in the winter. The same would be true for cooling in the summer, but i was in Oregon at the time.
I got a 21' van (Pleasureway) and love the versatility. I have remodeled some things to make it more useful for full time living, and put a kayak rack on top. I do wish there was more room for tools, but am satisfied with the gas mileage and stealth parking tradeoff.

Our ideal size is our Grech Terreno AWD iOn Class B Van. Yes, it doesn't have the space to carry everything we own, but enough space for a very comfortable set of clothes, dishes, utensils and food. I have had two towables before this and got to spend a summer vacation with my brother in his Class A. There is no comparison to the agility, park-ability, fuel economy of my Class B to a Class A. But as you very well stated, this van is the best size for us and not necessarily for someone else. I might be traveling solo for some periods and the simplicity of the van fits that lifestyle to a T.

Park in most any parking spot, gas not diesel, 12-14 mpg, all wheel, cozy at -9 degs, 12v fridge, gear garage for bikes and much more stuff. Instant hot water, 2 refillable 20 lb propane tanks, second alternator under hood to change batteries, so don't need to plug in or need generator. Beds are very comfortable. We have a 2022 Forest River Georgetown GT7 (36K7). This motorhome is 40 foot long and as you guys have indicated we bought for the floor plan. We have kids and bought this with the intention of them going with us more. They are a little older and don’t really travel with us as much as we would have thought. As it turns out we use the bunk area as extra storage and put our dog crate in there. It has been working out wonderful. We are not full time (at this moment), although we would like to be in it more than we are now. Like you guys, we like to have the door to the master bedroom as I am working full time and need to get up earlier too. We didn’t realize how much we like the 2 full baths (even though the second shower is a bit much). You give great advice when you say to try things out and look for the floor plan that works best for your needs. There seems to be a lot of people that won’t look at this brand or that brand because of the ‘issues’ they have had. Well, the truth of the matter is they are all RVs and you will run into something with every brand. Pick something that works for YOU! Phil, I am totally with you on the TECH… I love the fact that I can operate my slides from my phone. It is so nice during setup and breakdown. Walk around bed in the back with a pass through bathroom. The bathroom door, when open, separates the front from the back. We can have guests and at night both the front sleeping area and back bedroom can use the bathroom. We done have a smaller fresh tank but learn to carry a few Jerry cans. We can boondock for up to two weeks. Small enough for national/state parks but big enough for for us. No washer/dryer. We schlep our clothes to the laundromat.

I started with a 27 foot Class C (I am solo with 2, soon to be 3) small dogs. I learned pretty quickly it was the wrong floor plan for me. It had a corner kitchen and was dark and the bedroom had a slide with a folded mattress which was terrible for dry camping at Cracker Barrel or wherever I spent a night during travel days. I kept it 2 years and in May of this year, found the perfect floor plan for me. I was choosing between a rig 27 feet with a Murphy bed, good closets and a washer/dryer and a 33 foot with an inline kitchen, televator, huge kitchen counter space, power recliners, N/S bed with fantastic closet space and a split bath. The bedroom slide is a closet. With the big slide out in front, it feels more like a cottage than an rv. This is the perfect floor plan for me. I travel about 6 months of the year.

I've been on the road fulltime in my 24' rv for almost 6 yrs. It's my 1st rv & I researched for 2 yrs before I bought it. I sometimes think about actually going a bit smaller but I don't want to have to assemble my eating/ sleeping area every day & I dont want to give up the dry bath. It's also gas & fits my budget. I also believe that the more space you have, the more you fill it with stuff you may only use 1-2xs a year. I don't keep things -other than tools or spare spare parts- that I don't use on a pretty regular basis. May not have a dishwasher or washer & dryer, but the dang thing has tvs on inside & out, showers inside & out, air-conditioning, heat, and large windows on all 4 sides. One of the 1st things I removed was the huge convection microwave. It only ran if plugged in or the generator running. It was also above the frig so being 5'3" I literally needed a step stool to make sure I didn't spill hot food over my head when retrieving it. The 2nd thing I removed-which may sound unusual-was all those big, wooden, upholstered window valances. Had no clue how much they weighed, but removing them opened up the light & view tremendously! 1st thing everyone says when they enter my rig is how BIG it is! The open windows & lack of cluttrer makes this small rig seem much bigger than it is. I don't think I'm getting rid of this 8yo rig anytime soon.

2023 Tiffin Allegro Bay 38AB. Ideal for us. We loved the layout. Your video on this unit was when we saw it first and began learning more about it. We had thought Class A before but we liked several things about this one. The living space was big. The dual workstation spots in place of the dinette, since we both work. 3 doors so we don’t lock ourselves out, or in, as we hear about online so much. Towing 12,000 pounds was a plus for us. Slightly more aerodynamic than a Class A. And a biggie is roadside serviceability if needed. We look at other rigs all the time just out of curiosity but we have not found one at any price point that beats our floor plans for us! Very glad you shared that early video of the Allegro Bay, even though you didn’t seem to love it yourselves.

A 24-25 foot Class C is very versatile. We had an Old one on the 90’s that we used to take to all the UGA games which we were in a camping club. We also attended the GA/FL for many years. Once I had to work a mandatory weekend on the GA/FL game and my wife told me Monday she and her sister were leaving Tuesday and would be back Sun/Mon. It was small but we had 8 people in one at the beach for many weeks. They are more for weekenders vs full time, the 35 ft Class C are still very manageable and have much more space with the slide outs.
