my dad went to Yale and my sister now goes to Yale . two more years till I have to go through this process. 😬 I wanna tell him I don’t wanna go to yale , I wanna go to UCLA . I’m scared cause yale is where he wants me to go and I don’t want him to be disappointed in me.
Aww, I'm sorry. I understand the pressure of needing to go to an ivy or any other prestigious school. I'm sure your family will understand your desire to go to another school. I would suggest that you apply to both schools (and more) because you never know what might happen. Good luck with your college process! You got it :)

From my experience, you don't have to do what your parents want. From the beginning which is university, after you automatically have to do again and again what they want, to not disappoint them and you are not going to be happy.
Tell him UCLA is the #1 public university in the world and the most applied to school. He’ll get over it UCLA might not be Yale but it’s definitely prestigious as hell!

Kelly Lao I’m from Dothan in southeast Alabama. Our only claims to fame are the peanut festival every year and also most people drive through here on the way to PCB 😂

Kelly Lao Hey. I know, I live in America too, lol. What I meant by my question is that some colleges stand on their own like for example, Smith; while others are under universities. So I was wondering if you applied to universities because of their larger size and more resources, etc, rather than colleges which tend to be small and such
@@jackien404 ohh so you mean like liberal art colleges! I always use the words college and university interchangeably as if it was the same thing. I got confused. Anyways, personally, I didn't apply to any of those for a couple reasons. 1) They are definitely too small for me. I always wanted to go to a medium-sized or big school. I wanted to be seeing and meeting new people every day. I didn't want it to be similar to the size of my high school (~2000 students). Plus, going into business, it is all about networking with people and finding opportunities. I believe the more people and resources there are, the better off you will be in the business field. it will be easier to find a job with all the alumni too. 2) Liberal art colleges seem to be more humanities-based and very well-rounded. whereas, at a university, you are more focused on a specific track for a certain degree. I know I want to study marketing, and I want to put most of my time and effort learning mainly about that. 3) I feel as though the environment at a liberal arts college is much different than a university. I think universities will have more of the typical "college life" you would expect. although both liberal arts and universities have sports, school spirit, and traditions, it's much more evident at a big university
Kelly Lao Thank you for taking your time to write me such a detailed response. Honestly, I had not given much thought to some of your points like getting a degree in a specific track and building a large network. I have about 15 schools and more than half are liberal arts. For me what I found most valuable was the close relationships found within the small communities. Also, I am still undecided and it thought liberal arts would offer me that time to kind of explore various things. Though, I might have to reconsider my list. Why did you say a universities have the “more typical college life”? And do you think universities have more funding to provide or it varies?
@@jackien404 i know I'm not her. But hi I've been researching colleges and universities for a long time now so. If it helps. I think the "more typical college life" comes from the more common greek life, larger population, clubs and sports, things like that. Universities as they are larger usually get more funds for things, and in turn give more funds in terms of scholarships and loans and such.

How did you get the fee waivers?
KO B I went to my college counselor and he had a form for me to fill out. There’s a couple requirements before you can get one since it’s for people who cannot afford the application fees
So you mean you received 25 college fee waivers from one college counselor and what are the requirements though?
KO B no no you fill out one form and it goes towards any amount of colleges you want to apply to (2,5,10,20, etc). it’s recorded on common app that you have a waiver
KO B if I remember correctly, if your parents make below a certain amount every year. If you receive free or reduced lunch in school. If you receive health care assistance from the government (Medicaid)
So if I understand what you are saying, let's say I receive an application fee waiver from Drexel College; It will cover all colleges that I apply on the common app thing, am I right?

Hey! I never said that or tried to imply that. I applied to 25 because I didn't know what colleges I was going to get into. The process is very unpredictable. I wanted to lot to have options and didn't want to regret not applying anywhere I was interested in.
