@Nonesense Speaker That score was from the PSAT. I haven't tried the SAT or ACT but I always score low on tests. My homework grade always makes up for it since I do all the homework. In some classes I do the most work and I get an average grade due to the rest scores. I just wish I was good at tests.
Well I just graduated, my max score was a 25 on the ACT and a 1150 on the SAT. I got lucky and got into a special program at the school I wanted to go to, it's in like the top 30, since I was technically classified as first generation. My advice: take the practice test as many times as you can stand it will help you tremendously. Oh and 1 more thing, don't do AP do dual enrollment unless you're trying to get into like a super top of the line college like top 10
@CAT Lover highschool is really when they count. Try to challenge yourself a little, but not too much so it ruins your gpa and mental health. If you wanna be a doctor or engineer you will be taking harder classes and grades count alot more. But if your going into arts and creative they don't care about your grades as much.
I just saw Carolina in a Jubilee video - "6 U.S. Citizens vs 1 Secret Noncitizen". When she said she lived in Mexico, I immediately recognized her from this video and I had to double-check and make sure that she was the same person!
I hate it when people take whole credits for the activities they were just a part of. Remember guys, there can never be 'I' in leaders. There is always 'we' in any project or something you do, you may not feel it but you are what you are because of your parents...because of the society...because of everything which affected you mentally or emotionally.
Ok, hear me out. I don’t think all of these people are as insanely over the top smart or just strangely inhuman. I can break this down into a few things: Most of these kids likely had a lot of encouragement from their parents/ were made to do these activities by family. I doubt any of them just stood up one day and said, “Yes, I’m going to start a nonprofit organization even though I don’t want to”, they probably actually wanted to do one because it correlated with their interests. I was a little disheartened when I saw all the cool sounding extracurriculars they do, but then I realized, “Hey, I don’t enjoy doing any of those things, but I am currently in all the clubs I enjoy, so I’m not lying to anyone”. Those kids likely aren’t doing clubs they don’t enjoy either, so if you’re in a place you feel comfortable, you’re good. Lesson is: Start thinking of things you WANT to do. Do you love animals? Maybe go volunteer to walk dogs at a shelter, or feed lizards at a reptile store for free. Don’t like talking to people? Don’t do any activities that require talking. Go find an activity you’re already invested in (video games, art, music, writing, coding) and try to think of something you can do that would catch Stanford’s attention AND be fun for you. Literally anyone can get into Stanford, as long as they don’t sit around doing nothing. If you are sitting around doing nothing, are you okay? You may be depressed, if so get that solved STAT, that will likely hinder you from getting into Stanford more than anything. This is all my opinion, but I’m pretty confident in what I’ve said here. Good luck everyone! (I’m also trying to get into Stanford, it’s my top choice and I’m super nervous as well, but I’m not going to give up no matter what it looks like for me).
You will get rejected. You will get accepted. You will be disappointed and you will be sad. But.... wherever you go you will be happy with your choice . It’s not where you start it’s where you finish.
basically if you're a pretty good person then you have a good chance at getting in. These are just people who were proactive during their high school years and all that hard work paid off.
Just do your best to stay true to your values and interests. I wouldn't stress too much, what school you went to as an undergrad doesn't matter all too much.
Its absolutely hilarious/ridiculous how you can tell so many activities are made or participated in for the sake of college resumes. Its just a list of things for them. I'm similar. I participated in 4 clubs all throughout high school (president/vice president for two organizations), did debate (not really a club but I won a lot of competitions, premier distinction by the NSDA), and loads of community service. For my app season, my SAT was a 1290 and I was only accepted to two schools, but didn't start college until 2 years after graduating hs at my local CC. Lots of students hope for a payout towards a good school and its a relief when it works but creates a sense of regret when it doesn't. Later down the line, I think a lot of students will see, both the accepted and unaccepted students, that the hoops we jumped through were completely unnecessary and maybe even harmful to our personal development.
These kids are smart. I have a 2.5 weighted and 2.7 unweighted. I take the sat in 2 days and barely studied. I’m such a procrastinator. I’m definitely gonna end up working at McDonald’s.
I am currently an 8th grader and I get great grades. When I go to high school next year and all through high school I plan to work harder then ever before and get very much envolved in extra curriculars. My hopes are to get into Stanford. For everyone out there who wants to get into an Ivy League college always remember that you can do anything that you put your mind to!!
Great video. It is really informative and interesting. Could you make one with international students from Africa? I'd love to have more insight into their achievement.
For those who don’t have the credentials to get into Stanford at the undergraduate level, you might try doing exceedingly well at a less competitive college, then maxing out on the GRE. That was my path to Stanford.
@@personperson717 hell nah, saw another person with a similar score, she started a non-profit, prolly a contributing factor. Affirmative action exists for sure, but there's such an abundance of applicants that they don't really even lose anything

Pretty much if you want to even have a chance make sure your testing and grades are at least comparable to those in this video. As for extracurriculars, the stranger the better. Those with the most unique and unorthodox have the highest chance of getting in to schools like this. I'd recommend doing independent study projects, starting a couple clubs at your school, and having a very interesting hobby such as being a falconer.
So basically I have to fly a rocket into space, achieve world peace, discover a new element, intern at the United Nations, run for president, found my own company, and then maybe have a 0.000001% chance of getting into Stanford. Gotchu.

I feel as though the admissions at Stanford throws names in a hat and randomly pick them after they meet the minimum standard cause I know so many people who had better grades and better activities and awesome backgrounds that got rejected.
AlberteTDK it’s not necessarily “easy” but it’s less complicated. I’m in a Dutch school system and we don’t need to take SAT’s and all of that. We get a subject packet( minimum 7 subjects) and in your final year you take an exam. Based on your scores from how well you did during that year and your exam the university’s will see if they want to admit you or not. Some universities might accept you even before you’ve handed in your final transcripts. Luckily for me I’ve been accepted to both of the universities I’ve applied too and I haven’t made my exams as yet.
Can anybody help me out my dream is to go to Stanford and my first semester freshman year I got all C’s but after that I got all A’s in all AP and Honors classes.... did I blow it? I got a 35 on the ACT.. I’m a Junior
You didn’t necessarily blow it. Things happen, grades can drop, but what’s important is that you keep them high from now on and do plenty of interesting stuff outside of classes. Your freshman year grades might put you at a bit of a disadvantage, but colleges love seeing improvement. Your GPA will likely take a beating and it might not get as high as these students’, but the most important thing is to stand out and show that you’re involved in your community, as cheesy as that sounds. Just make sure you keep your mental health in check. Don’t exhaust yourself trying to get perfect grades, just do as well as you can reasonably do. Congrats on the 35 btw! That’s an excellent score, I’m a little jealous haha.

From a statistical perspective, it’s just bound that someone would get in with a lower score with over 50k people applying to a school that practices holistic admissions. She’s an incredible girl who earned her way in, who happens to have low test scores and happens to be black. There’s a lot of higher scoring black kids that didn’t get in and some even lower scoring white kids that did get in. A group of 19 students is not enough of a sample size to accurately project anything onto a population of 50,000. Feel free to check out my other videos to see how she is more than just a number, and how brilliant and deserving of her admission she is-or leave, because I’ve often found that some people’s belief biases will keep them from ever changing their minds despite overwhelming evidence.

Know that just because you don’t get into Stanford or top rated schools doesn’t mean that you won’t be successful. Your personal experiences already make you who you are and Stanford isn’t some big shot that can determine that your experiences are less valuable than others. You are the only one with that power. Take what you have and grow from it and that to me, is better than getting admitted into any university. From one stressed senior to another!
my experiences are watching youtube and sleeping until it makes me sick
and doing tons of homework so that my parents won't take wifi away from me, if it's not summer
After you finish your first project at your first job, no one will care where you got a degree. They'll look at your project results and pronounce judgment (speaking as a chemical engineer at a major corporation). White and Asian males get the toughest assignments. Then it's women, Hispanics, and African Americans. People can prove/disprove themselves and get out of their category, but "real engineers" want tougher assignments and the others are content to do the easy stuff.
Is arpi park in here
Same Question before I clicked in.
i love himmm
Arpee here
MyNameIsBelieve I LOVE ARPI. i can proudly say im a arpeepee lol
very hardworking students they deserve it 🤧❤️ wish i was as motivated throughout high school and pushed myself more. junior year is already almost over agh but we all have different paths. wish everyone the best

are these "people" machines or something because how do they do all this
Grit. And focus
Aidan Chau and possibly because that’s the only thing they focus on.
Nah we just smart
LOTS of planning and sticking with that plan
They are smart and most likely dont play sports...
Lmao imagine getting a 1350/26 and getting into stanford.
They look at your application HOLISTICALLY; test scores are only one of the many factors that determine your chances of getting in.
lmao we love that ~holistic~ approach
Aidan Chau not really meaning to just bitch about it Stanford says on their site that they treat everyone regardless of race equally in the process, if you really think you were discriminated against as an asian you can call and file a complaint. -sincerely an asian
she had to have some extra curricular that let her in cuz wooo I could get in now with those numbers
@@tinazzeng There was a college acceptance video I watched not too long ago, where this Asian guy got rejected and waitlisted from schools like Wash u, Amherst, Carleton, Colby and all ivies EXCEPT for Harvard (he got into Harvard). The college process is so strange and unpredictable; Since a lot of high-tier colleges are trying to build a well-rounded class they want different kinds of people (artists, creators, entrepreneurs, philosophers, inventors...etc) So who knows, maybe that girl had something Stanford was seeking for.
the editing on this video is honestly so good and the video was SO helpful
This just makes me depressed omg
Lol the Asian guy went to the thousandths place in GPA...haha
Lmfao
bc some grading systems count gpa to the thousandths (my school does)
Yeah I did thats what was on my app
Omg Anna (at 5:37) went to my high school!! I was in her science fair club :))
did you go to M-A??
Surprised how little of them were serious about sports there was only that one African American dude
Aidan George I’m a three season varsity athlete and plan on running club xc/track next year but yeah not a lot of them were as interested in sports
@viprizy lol or u can get a scholarship and have no student debt
Idk if you would consider a sport, since gymnastics is a sports, but I’m interested in volleyball, cheerleading, and instead of sports I am interested in poem writing
@@aidangeorge7012 If you think people who go to top schools like Stanford and Harvard are graduating with debt, then you have no idea how financial aid works. These schools by far have the best loan-free, grant-only, need-based aid, better than a “scholarship” at your local private school with a 50%+ acceptance rate.
I love the girl’s British accent. She’s pretty, intelligent and well-spoken.
I got a B sophomore year. Guess I’m doomed.
*ME* I'm over here literally 0.1 gpa away from high school valedictorian but still 1.0 gpa away from TRYING for Stanford lol
Don’t lose hope! I saw a video where a girl got multiple b’s and got into UPenn!
you're really not. just keep plugging away, and don't try to get good grades for colleges. do it for yourself
omg😭 all these beautiful 1300+ scores and then there’s me over here panicking
@Nonesense Speaker Why am I so stupid... Everyone I know got 1200s and I'm over here with a 1080.. I just hope I get into *a* college
@Nonesense Speaker That score was from the PSAT. I haven't tried the SAT or ACT but I always score low on tests. My homework grade always makes up for it since I do all the homework. In some classes I do the most work and I get an average grade due to the rest scores. I just wish I was good at tests.
@@alexosow Wait, what grade were you in when you took the PSAT and got 1080 (if you don't mind me asking)?
Well I just graduated, my max score was a 25 on the ACT and a 1150 on the SAT. I got lucky and got into a special program at the school I wanted to go to, it's in like the top 30, since I was technically classified as first generation. My advice: take the practice test as many times as you can stand it will help you tremendously. Oh and 1 more thing, don't do AP do dual enrollment unless you're trying to get into like a super top of the line college like top 10
@@alexosow Oh, good for you!
*What activities do you do*
I was 10 years in a row in the national seeping and eating championships
This has been a truly humbling experience
I’m about to go into high school and I feel motivated now! Thank you for the help😊
Email me rlama22@stanford.edu if you have any questions!!
You still motivated? Probs not. No one is motivated after freshman year.
S C lmaooo nahhh i’m not motivated and ew i cant believe i commented this😬
@@sierraaa7798 how is it now? Did you get into college?
I dont even think i have a 1.00 gpa
That's basically impossible
@Alexis Ruiz I wouldn't even be comfortable with a 3.8
@CAT Lover my school only goes to 4.0, I should technically have above a 4.0 bc of honors and ap, but I don't
CAT Lover highschool, colleges don’t count your grades before highschool
@CAT Lover highschool is really when they count. Try to challenge yourself a little, but not too much so it ruins your gpa and mental health. If you wanna be a doctor or engineer you will be taking harder classes and grades count alot more. But if your going into arts and creative they don't care about your grades as much.

I just saw Carolina in a Jubilee video - "6 U.S. Citizens vs 1 Secret Noncitizen". When she said she lived in Mexico, I immediately recognized her from this video and I had to double-check and make sure that she was the same person!
I’m a senior in high school and this video is actually giving me anxiety
oh girl me too
I know this is an unpopular opinion but this actually made me think Stanford is more achievable. Thank you so much
I hate it when people take whole credits for the activities they were just a part of.
This video made me feel stupid🤦 mannnn im a Junior rn and stressing about not getting into a collage i want to get into next year
You will get rejected. You will get accepted. You will be disappointed and you will be sad. But.... wherever you go you will be happy with your choice . It’s not where you start it’s where you finish.
basically if you're a pretty good person then you have a good chance at getting in. These are just people who were proactive during their high school years and all that hard work paid off.
this was edited so well !! made all the info easy to get through haha
Stanford is my dream school. I'm starting high school next year so this gave me a lot of anxiety.
Just do your best to stay true to your values and interests. I wouldn't stress too much, what school you went to as an undergrad doesn't matter all too much.
Same!! I live in the uk and I am only in year 7 but I really want to get into Stanford.
Which u the best .
My biggest advice: use the SAT college board SAT prep book and study at least 2x a week. Also keep ur grades up. Good luck :)
This just called me stupid in 100 different ways
Me: go into RUclips not to overly depress myself from college application
RUclips: watch college videos
Gang Llery I did the same fucking bullshit and look at me now lmao
these videos never fail to humble me
Nice vid man! It just makes me even more excited to meet all of these awesome people!
I’m definitely gonna end up working at McDonald’s.
what did u end up getting on the sat?
so he basically interviewed geniuses
The girl who got a 1350 on the SAT gives me hope for my reach schools because 1100 here 🙃
I am currently an 8th grader and I get great grades. When I go to high school next year and all through high school I plan to work harder then ever before and get very much envolved in extra curriculars. My hopes are to get into Stanford. For everyone out there who wants to get into an Ivy League college always remember that you can do anything that you put your mind to!!
Four years from now, how you doing ?
What was the book that one girl wrote about programming algorithms? Great video btw! :D
Thanks for the insight! (I’m a high school senior)
As a junior with no extracurricular, I’m speechless
Carolina, the girl with the big curly hair and Mexican accent, was on a Jubilee video!
I don’t even want to go to Stanford and this video just solidified that statement 💀
2:08 this girl is a mood
*2:08* Her essays must have the power to convert Jesus Christ to Islam
Why this comment isn't the top yet ?
lmao true

It’s called affirmative action
@@personperson717 hell nah, saw another person with a similar score, she started a non-profit, prolly a contributing factor. Affirmative action exists for sure, but there's such an abundance of applicants that they don't really even lose anything
The amount of extracurricular stuff has me spooked, but I have like 5 more years so I will be okay lol.
My unweighted is a 4.0 but idk what my weighted is.
Dhruv Chowdhary oh okay
Pretty much if you want to even have a chance make sure your testing and grades are at least comparable to those in this video. As for extracurriculars, the stranger the better. Those with the most unique and unorthodox have the highest chance of getting in to schools like this. I'd recommend doing independent study projects, starting a couple clubs at your school, and having a very interesting hobby such as being a falconer.
I just came to look cuz my friend wants to go to Stanford. Now I’m stressing.
So basically I have to fly a rocket into space, achieve world peace, discover a new element, intern at the United Nations, run for president, found my own company, and then maybe have a 0.000001% chance of getting into Stanford. Gotchu.
THIS is the video i needed. thank you so much
ahhh I do ballet folklorico too! I’m so happy that I see someone else in it too!
The first part of scores gave me hope but the second part of extracurriculars was nope.
So, time for staying in my country.
Same here, I do 0 extra curricular activities in my school.
I don't even have extracurriculars at my school
A great video 👍 This is really beneficial to know when wanting to apply for an Ivy League university. 6:33 this girl loves writing poetry like me 😝, I thought I was the only one.

How much time do these people have on their hands?
Ok my gpa weighted and unweighted and activities I think have a chance but my SAT score? Whew chilé... I’m gonna study over summer and retake it and goal is a 1450 bc I only got a 1200 first time but my SAT essay was near perfect if that counts as anything
4:23 he says y and quickly correct it into and. Hes main language is spanish for sure :D
Message from a member of the class of 2020 who just committed to a “safety” school: The tremendous stress you juniors are feeling at this juncture will sook subside. Trust me!
I feel as though the admissions at Stanford throws names in a hat and randomly pick them after they meet the minimum standard cause I know so many people who had better grades and better activities and awesome backgrounds that got rejected.
my anxiety is going back and forth with this video. that one girl w the low SAT/ACT scores is giving me hope.
i’m glad i’m passed this stressful time period
I’m from Europe. I have no idea what’s going on
Marina Fidalgo how do college admissions work over there?
Assassinscreed Trinidad only go by grades, so it’s an easy system.
Usa's school system is crazy af...but also remember theyre over 300 mil people so it makes sense ;)
It seems like the biggest thing is that they all have many leadership roles, clubs they founded, or they did research at a local university.
I don’t think Stanford looks at your freshman year
no you got this!!
Not really write some bomb ass essays and alot of ECS and thats all you need for prestigious colleges
Spencer Macleay standford doesn’t look at freshman grades so u are good
7:07 she was president of the interact club??? oh my god wow 😳😳 i was in interact too in freshman (currently a sophomore, not in the club anymore since it focused more on activities outside of school and not online ig)
This video called me stupid in 19 different languages and I'm already in university.
This was really helpful. Thank you so much.
Extremely difficult to get in. Requires 3-4 years of rigorous consistent hard work.
my grades are there but these extracurriculars are crazy... i mean how can you have the time and "passion" to do all of these things like fr i don't even know how to get an internship as a hs student or more than surface level community service. also, not popular kids have like no chance of getting in student government or high leadership positions in certain clubs
this video was so helpful, thanks for uploading!!
How did that one girl get in with a 26
From a statistical perspective, it’s just bound that someone would get in with a lower score with over 50k people applying to a school that practices holistic admissions.
