An average Nutella becuase 30,000 dollars won’t pay for a full 4 year/ lmfao. It’s spit into 4 amounts so she’s getting 7500 a year and that only cover a tuition. She still has to pay for room/board. Text books and classes. College is expensive

Can we all agree that the trend for these make zero sense? Accepted at Dartmouth but waitlisted at NYU?! I got into Pomona and rejected from pretty much everywhere else including Berkeley. My advice to people going through this is apply broadly, because this system is close enough to a lottery that you need the assurance and the reach.

I'm guessing you got a super high SAT score but didn't have as impressive essays or extra-curriculars.

but that's because different universities want different things. NYU for example wants very different kinds of students than something like Yale or Dartmouth. To me it makes a lot of sense because it's about being a good fit for that university.

Why does this have such less likes?
- some people just don't get super duper loud and jumpy excited when they're really happy. they may seem calm, but they're really happy on the inside. that's just who they are.
- 30,000 over 4 years really isn't that much for college. it may seem like a lot, but in reality, tuition is still going to costs tens of thousands of dollars per year.
so, those of you who think that she is acting entitled or ungrateful because she doesn't seem super glad that she got what she did should really tone it down a bit lol
True. I had $50,000 in scholarships and still walked away with debt.
In the uk per year it’s like 9,250 which is quite a lot if u think about the fact that you get 30,000

Watching this from a British perspective is so weird.... like we're only allowed to apply to five universities and we do it through one authority rather than having to apply to every university individually- UCAS is bad enough I can't imagine having to track all these separate applications!

RattleHound It never even crossed my mind that some places _don't_ have fees for the application. It makes me kind of curious of the differences within the schools between NZ and the US.
Abigail S. I guess since NZ has such a small population in comparison to the US, going through the applications each year wouldn't be as time consuming or costly. Also, NZ really only has one prestigious university in the whole country, so there's nowhere near as much to choose from. I guess we're quite lucky in that a three year degree for us would cost about US$16,500, while I know that university in the states is ridiculously costly. Our most recent government also brought in a first year free policy, so overall I'm only having to pay for 2 years of my degree. It sucks that uni in the US has become such a big money making scheme :(
My sister is a freshman at Dartmouth this year and is that happiest she has ever been. She has met so many amazing people and has already had so many great opportunities!

May i ask how many ap classes did u take and what your gpa was please? I would love to go to UCLA in the future but i have to work hard for that haha.
The UCLA applications system is so fucked up. They put you in brackets based on your gpa and don't even look at your applications if you don't have a certain gpa. Don't delude yourself. What you write in your essays won't matter nearly as much as you think they do. Its all about how much you can make good grades to the point of wrecking yourself and that's it.
i'm sittin here w a solid 2.9 GPA, procrastinating studying for finals lmao 😂 congratulations on all your acceptances though, i can't imagine how hard you must've worked!

@Lilika - There are many universities that don't have selective admissions like these schools do and they provide just as good education. Another way she could make up for her GPA is attending community college and then transferring to university. I graduated with a 3.0 in HS and I am currently going to a very good school.

I got rejected from all the schools I applied to including UIUC, Harvard, Princeton. Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UMichigan. I had a 36 on the ACT, a 1590 on the SAT, and straight a's all four years of High School. I took all honors Freshman year, AP EURO in sophmore year, 6 AP classes junior year, and 6 AP classes senior year. I also played varsity football, baseketball, and baseball with my leadership involvement in Indian Student Assosiation and my "Key" Club which is a community service club. It sucks badly. I guess I have to go community college :( I personally thought I did well on my application essay as I talked about an experience, so I do understand if my application was generic. However, I do not know how i did not make it into UIUC, or UMich because many of my other friends got into these colleges yet they did not have as good grades as I had, nor did they have the extracurricular. Also in my state, there is no specific division but there is a conference and I played in my state's top tier conference and we won the championship for basketball and baseball. I did have decent playing time too.

Wow, I'm watching this at age 32 and I had a very similar experience. Got into all the UC's I applied to (safeties); rejected from the Ivies I applied to (only top top ones), (but waitlisted at Columbia); got into Northwestern; I think that's pretty much it. You win though, bc you got into Dartmouth. $30,000 scholarship at Davis is amazing-I didn't apply to the lower-end UC's, and was probably too well-off (parents) to get a scholarship anyway. Ok, that's my story. Columbia didn't take me at the end. I wish I'd applied to NYU, or selected Northwestern. I went to Berkeley and I regret it most profoundly. Didn't do research before I picked-was so disheartened about not getting into Ivies, I just went where all my peers went: Berkeley.

Sure! My GPA (unweighted) was a 3.99, and for high school I did the IGCSE followed by the IB (which in my understanding is considered to be a very rigorous program by most universities). Since I was an IB student, however, I didn't give any APs etc.

It’s not possible to not know your decisions and to wait until the last day, unless you completely didn’t check your email as the colleges you get accepted to usually send lots of emails inviting you to admitted students day.

Based on the way you guys were saying cali, I'm assuming you guys aren't Californian but if you are I seriously would've considered uc Davis and uc Irvine, depending on the financial aid that Dartmouth gave out. The 30k means a lot when you're already in-state, and the priority registration goes a long way. Congratz either way tho, where did you end up selecting?

Kinda wish I'd done this when I applied to college. Because yeah, rejection sucks but the excitement of getting into your other schools makes it not as big of a deal. Rather than doing it as they come and just feeling that rejection all day for each school.

As many as you want so long as you can pay for it. At my school people generally apply to 5-10 schools but we've had people apply to 24
