  • Recently we used Strega on Breakbeats, used it to generate its own percussive sounds, and of course, let it drone into an ENDLESS feedback loop. But we haven’t patched in a DRUM MACHINE, because well, we don’t have a whole lot of drum machines hanging around here at Make Noise HQ. So big thanks to our friends at Korg for sending over their new drum machine, the DrumLogue. Let’s take a bite out of it!

    2:44 "Sometimes if you don't go to extremes, you won't get anywhere" is the new "Why stop there? Why stop anywhere?"

      I have seen this quote attributed to John Cage, though I couldn’t really substantiate it. “Why stop there? Why stop anywhere?” is from W.S. Burroughs’ epilogue to “The Ticket That Exploded” and is a perennial favorite creativity quote for me so I think I’ll stick to it for now! That reminds me I haven’t put it in a video in awhile, thanks for bringing it back to mind! -W 🎶

    Looks like the Roland TR-8S drum machine would be fun to experiment with also with all those analog inputs and outputs!

    I did this recording to find a percussive driving groove for a song. The actual recording was more than 30min of playing around this tones but to find some variations. The input was one high-hat from tr8s, processed by strega, modulated by both 0-coast and 0-ctrl, and I think the 0-coast was on arp mode if not mistaken. ruclips.net/video/62A7A8X1O84/видео.html

    Both the Strega and 0-CTRL pair amazingly with the Pulsar. I like using the external input envelope follower to modulate the blend, and using both the square wave and sub oscillator outputs to modulate a variety of stuff across the Pulsar in step with whatever cv I've got going into the tonic 1v/octave input. You can hear at least a few of those here --> ruclips.net/video/jnztTk5hg68/видео.html

    is it possible to use this sync modulation technique with elektron devices?

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  Год назад

      I can't speak to every Elektron device, but the ones I have used do not have this type of Sync input, unfortunately

    • @poltergeist0

      That was the question I was going to ask. Wouldn't you need a standalone CV to Midi converter? Or perhaps an external sequencer like the Korg SQ-1? You'd probably be better off buying something that has a modular clock input like Moog DFAM. The Roland Tr-08 has a Trigger Out, but not an In so you'd have to use it as a master clock. I can't even think of any other drum machines besides the Drumlogue that has a CV in. Are there any more?
      Edit: I see the TR-06 has a Trigger In input, maybe that one would work as well?

      @drewbronig Год назад +1

      @@poltergeist0 the Erica Synths lxr02 has clock in and a reset input, similar price to the drumlogue also actually

      With a Machinedrum or an analog four yes you can. I think it should be possible also with an Octatrack using the cue output. The main difference is that the Elektron machine will provide the clock, they can not listen to the O Ctrl

    Two questions:
    1. Can you please make a follow up video with someone rapping over your beats?
    2. Can I have your t-shirt?

    what a waste to release this as a video. you cut have cut it up in 2 minute tracks and released it as the best post-speedbass album ever 😛
    @topic
    drums are the only thing i do the "traditional" way in software. everything else is modular.
