  • «Noise & Texture» is a collection of 50 patches for the semi-modular synthesizer, Make Noise Strega.
    Although Strega is often seen as part of the Make Noise trio (0-Coast + 0-Ctrl + Strega), it remains an intriguing standalone synth. My goal was to explore its full potential independently, without connecting other Make Noise devices. Strega is a truly unique instrument, offering inspiration for crafting the unusual and experimental timbres.

    This collection includes lo-fi textures, drones, leads, noises, FXs, and rhythmical patches. They can take center part in a track or serve as a supporting element, creating an atmospheric background.
    These presets are suitable for various genres of electronic music where experimental sound design plays a crucial role, including: Ambient, Techno, Minimal, Deep, Electronica, Drone, Industrial, Dubstep, Hardcore, Garage, Cinematic, and others.
    Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.
    To recreate these patches, you need up to 5 patch cords.
    There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset. They are 24/44100 WAVs. You may use them as a material for further processing in your tracks and performances.
    In most cases, I utilize the 1V/OCT input (indicated by a black cable in the images) to send note information to Strega. There are several popular methods to achieve this:
    - Using a MIDI keyboard or controller with CV output, such as the Arturia Keystep or Beatstep.
    - Employing the Make Noise 0-CTRL.
    - Utilizing software like Ableton (or another DAW with similar capabilities) to send CV signals via an audio interface.
    You have the flexibility to choose any of these methods and play notes manually with a keyboard or use their internal arpeggiators and sequencers. In some of my audio examples, I used the internal arpeggiator of the Keystep.
    If you don't have any of these devices or prefer not to use them, you can still effectively utilize the patches. In this scenario, you'll be working with a single note or pitch, which you can set using the TONIC parameter.
    Don’t forget to use Touch Plates for immediate modulations and expression.
    I've added a very simple delay to the demos, with no modulations or any complex parameters. Just for stereo image and space.

      any plan to do a bundle w/ discounted cost of the patches for the 0-Coast and the Strega like you have for some others? I'd happily buy both for ohh say $30? haha

    I learned more about Strega in a half hour playing around with a few of your patches than I have in a year. Brilliant work. Thank you. Very much. Can’t wait to keep diving in.

    You seem to be really comfortable outside your comfortzone. Excellent job and a great community contribution. I sincerely hope this will trigger some more interest in the modular world.

    This is why invest so heavily on effects, Microcosm,lore, Fable, separate delays and reverbs for goal control! I received a Mooer metal pedal today, it was single output, which Is fine, I’ll run one side with Beetronics and the with Mooer. the Mooers are damn serious pedals! And the stereo ones aren’t cheap either, about half of Hologram or Chase Bliss, and worth every cent! This is the best metal pedal I’ve ever heard for about $60. It’s called Blade. The stereo looper is also unbelievable! Really nice job, showing off the Strega! I’m pretty happy with mine as well!

    I saw Alessandro Cortini perform last week using only two of these and a couple pedals for delay and reverb. Extremely intense and aggressive but wonderful.

    For these, if you want to use the Moog grandmother as the keyboard controller I assume you patch the KB out of the gm to the 1v/oct input on Strega. Where would you patch the gate out from the Gm into the Strega?

    • @AntonAnru
      @AntonAnru  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, you may use KB out to send 1v/oct signal. Strega doesn't have gate in, there's no envelope. It works in a drone mode

    • @akuliak
      @akuliak 7 месяцев назад +2

      Depending on if the patch-points are being used otherwise, you can also patch gate into Activation (knob fully CCW, attenuverter effectively sets volume). Depending on your delay settings, there may be enough of a tail that the drop-off doesn't sound awkward. You can also patch gate into "begin and end in" - the jack on the agitation generator/LFO with the concentric circles around it. This will turn the function generator into AHD envelopes that will have attack and decay based on the angle setting and stay high as long as your gate is high/the key is pressed. You can patch this output into the Activation jack like before. The downside here is that you lose this as a modulation source/the modulation from it is in sync with the VCA opening (though you still have the Grandmother's LFO).
      If you're using the Grandmother exclusively as a controller, rather than having them play together, you can instead patch the +Env Out from it into Activation, allowing you to play Strega with the more robust ADSR and still having both modulation sources available for patching.

    Are you using an effects processor or the sort or is this all coming from the Strega? In either case, this sounds amazing!!

    Is it possible to convert midi to CV? I want to use this with my minifreak and would rather not buy an additional Keystep….i guess my other option would just be to just route minifreak audio through?

    • @AntonAnru
      @AntonAnru  3 месяца назад

      you can of course convert MIDI to CV with some extra box. you may also use Ableton CV Tools. yes, it's possible to pass minifreak through strega

    i'm very interested in Make Noise, and especially your personal perspective. I have such limited space...but WANT ONE hehe to pair with 0x10ne, Peak, Neutron, TR-8s, TD3. Microfreak...perhaps I need no more instruments, and I know this is neither the time nor the place, but 🐒🐒
