Just want to say thanks again for a great show and taking time for a selfie even though you were trying to pack up your gear in peace. It was really appreciated. I look forward to the new release in March and I hope this set is available on Bandcamp sooner than later. A big thanks for Strega too, an absolute gem of a machine.
Hey matths, I'm wondering: you said you are sidechaining the overcompressed signal from the mscl right? But are you doing that sidechaining with the cockpit? And is it the whole mix what you are putting through that overcompression or just the harmonies?
Good question but not here. I am not using the cockpit in this case but I have done so before. It gives you much more control with the cockpit but I like the aggressiveness of the MSCL right now.@@ionianechoes
I was stoked to see you were supporting Cortini as your videos have really helped in the past. It was a great show and I really enjoyed it though admittedly I nodded off a couple of times during your set, which I blame completely on the long journey down from Wales and the Pulsar 23. I don't know what it is about Soma (and I own a Lyra 8, Pulsar 23 & Enner) but that sound created by Vlad Kreimer is so unique and fantastic but knocks me out every time. So happy to hear RELEASE live. Great interview too.
“As I’ve gotten older, I realize there are certain aspects of music making or show playing that I consider interesting but the effort, or time, that I had to dedicate to them - like visuals - didn’t lead to the excitement or the amount of quality content that I wanted.” This is what a self-aware, well-spoken, considerate (in this case, musical) genius sounds like when speaking. No wholesale judgment or dismissal. Thoughtful, personal, experience based. What a beautiful mind.
I watched Alessandro Cortini in Uppsala Sweden last month. It was an awesome piece he performed and I was very happy that he came by. Didnt get the chance to talk to him after the show but I just wanted to thank him for creating such an inspirational machine like Strega and sharing it with the rest of the world. I'm using it in pretty much every song I make and I just love it. I hope Alessandro get the chance and will to produce another semi modular synthesizer. ❤
I was lucky to be there at this sold out gig last week.... it was one of the most amazing gigs I have been to in a long time... Matt was fantasic and a superb, complimentary support act for Alissandro who was just masterful
@browe no problem my friend. These are just my thoughts though remember and they are always developing and changing. Who knows what my live set will look like next year. That's the great thing about working with electronic instruments - there is so much choice and its like you are only just ever getting started.
I'll be seeing Alessandro play live when he comes to Warsaw in January, I don't know if he'll play the same set-up as talked about here, but whatever he plays I'm really, really looking forward to it 😋 I also love how he's always so open to describe and explain his techniques and equipment, he doesn't hide behind any smoke and mirrors, he simply talks freely and enthusiastically about his process, and he always comes across as a deeply lovely dude, in every single interview 👏 A nice shout-out to Hainbach too, someone else who's always so open to explaining what he's doing and how he's doing it; I've seen him play, and chatted with him, 3 times now and each time at the end of his set he's stayed to answer any and all questions that people may have had. He is, along with Alessandro, a natural communicator and teacher 👏👍 Hmmm, a Hainbach / Alessandro Cortini double bill would be epic 🤯
A really interesting interview and run down of the gear used by both artists. If I’m not mistaken the tune Matt was playing at the gig for the outro was Auditions, a superb track.
"I've been recording them as well, for future releasea" ophooohohohhoooo yes! I was so sad to have missed the chance for tickets to his UBC performance recently. Glad there will be an opportunity to listen in the future.
i am gonna get the strega next week and i kudt cant wait. i wanted this piece because to me personally the strega is very similar to lyra 8 and i love lyra and decide to buy a strega!
In my opinion Lyra 8 and Strega sounds very similar to each other. Both fantastic instruments. Lyra might be my fav synths of all times. I hope get a Strega some day.
Interesting, but it would have been nice to see (a little) an example of Alessandro's music using this setup - so we can see/hear what he's talking about.
nah dude, he had to get a tooth capped and it's actually cheaper to get metal than a natural looking one and they last longer. who knows what kind of insurance some of these musicians have, if any at all, being they have to pay it all themselves? he probably has to pay for most dental stuff out of pocket.
Thank you for having me and for the fantastic evening!!! Always a treat to spend time with the SonicState team. Great show Matt!
@alessandroCortini - the pleasure was all mine. I hope you got back safely and thanks again for having me 🖤

It was so great to open for Alessandro and to meet the man himself. Then to go and deep dive into his setup was just 🤯 - enjoy everyone!

Great interview too.
I absolutely adore every darn interview you guys bring with Alessandro
was about to say the same.

I could not stand so close to Alessandro and not give him a hug, he seems like such a nice human
It has been rewarding getting to know your wonderful music, starting with NIN and moving through your personal catalogue. A real pleasure.

Alessandro has been using that Strymon Blue Sky for a decade so that means that It's a really good pedal
Alessandro is my hero! My favorite artist! Thank you so much for this interview!!
Great to hear from both Alessandro and MATTHS... really cool vid! Thanks guys and gals!
Appreciated how you shared these honest, think-aloud insights into your approach to a live set, Matt. Cheers!

2 great humans. Thanks for sharing this.
strega is one of my favourite things, just a magical little box that goes from nostalgic to terrifying

Thanks a lot for this quality knowledge content. Massive thanks. Keep'em coming !
That was awesome and not super nerdy. Great insights into gear and performing live
Amazing. Imagine having a handful of Stregas for this and that. "Oh I have a couple more in my studio" wow!
GODFLESH / PRURIENT T Shirt - RESPECT!
that shirt is hard
i am gonna get the strega next week and i kudt cant wait. i wanted this piece because to me personally the strega is very similar to lyra 8 and i love lyra and decide to buy a strega!
Godflesh + Allesandro would be a mind-blowing collab
Great conversation
what is the name of the visual software mentioned? i could not quite catch what they were saying
heaps of good ideas here like the parallel compression at 17:20
In my opinion Lyra 8 and Strega sounds very similar to each other. Both fantastic instruments. Lyra might be my fav synths of all times. I hope get a Strega some day.
Alessandro is single handedly validating my work flow
What’s with all the rainbow colours in the Sonicstate logo?
what's the song at the end of the video?
I would love to know as well. I love music where beats are hypnotic like that and not just booty shaking music.
Bravo, Maestro!
Absolutely love this nerd shit. It never gets old.
Interesting, but it would have been nice to see (a little) an example of Alessandro's music using this setup - so we can see/hear what he's talking about.
all i want to know is, the proper way to pronounce sonio?
anybody know? i love the blue album! even got the Japanese pressing in my collection
son-o-eo (which means IT'S ME in italian)
@@xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo7811 nice. thanks!
Matths, you need to get a rubber band around the L & R on the Xpo. It’ll change your life.
Alessandro Cortini
Oh no. Modular Bores!
Can't we have more of Gaz wanging on about the K foundation it's far more interesting.
Must be frustrating for both artist and audience that these are "seated" gigs 🤔
👍i LoVe !
💙⚪❤
Alessandro's got grillz now?
nah dude, he had to get a tooth capped and it's actually cheaper to get metal than a natural looking one and they last longer. who knows what kind of insurance some of these musicians have, if any at all, being they have to pay it all themselves? he probably has to pay for most dental stuff out of pocket.
Braces, foo! 😎
@@AlessandroCortini lol you da best
