Facts. So many other demo videos never showcase very good musical examples. Honestly, I've been sleeping on this, and the O coast because of that. And now that I've seen both respective videos, I really want both of these synths
Thank you for another great video, Alex. I fondly recall the time your 0-Coast video tilted me several degrees toward buying my first hardware synthesizer. Hundreds of HP and thousands of dollars later, I still patch with it to this day.
After owning the 0-Coast for almost 2 years, I finally ordered the 0-Ctrl today... I've watched this video many times already (that section at 27:44 is straight up amazing, my favourite part every time) but came back to refresh my memory. Read most of the manual today on the train, will have finished it all by the time it arrives tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out.
Forgive me for interrupting your day, but if you do have the time, I'm curious to know, - Did you keep the 0-Ctrl?, do you still use it?, is it as much fun/inspiring as you thought? - Many thanks, either way
something not mentioned in this video thwt i've been playing with - when the 0-ctrl is clocked externally, and its internal clock isn't running, the time row and speed knob control the length of the dynamic envelope! Makes it so expressive
They do thankfully have the shared system, but something specifically for their semi modular gear (namely the 0 coast, 0 ctrl and strega) like Moog do with their mother 32, dfam and subharmonicon. It wouldn't exactly sell like hotcakes but there's absolutely a market for it.
I'm exited to complete the trifecta! 0-coast was my intro to modular 3ish years ago. I just got the Strega and, after a month of messing with em both (and Moog Mavis), it's time to get th 0-cntrl.
Wow, I had no idea the gate input was velocity sensitive. I'm sure I read the manual but I may have logged out at the program pages. Learning every day. Thanks maestro! Excellent video as always!
2 years ago, you made this comment. After 2 years of watching your content, I realized it was the shared system I really want lol Still use my 0-Ctrl every track
31:40 - wow! Some amazing jamming here!! Bloody hell - this section should be on their website!! If I had the moula they'd both be ordered by now. 33:10 - jeezlus, it gets better!!
Oh my God, the bit where you sort of made the Erbeverb swell with pressure... That sound literally made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Bloody hell m8 🪐
This was a phenomenal video. You’re absolutely right about the “time” parameter being a brilliant way to inject new feel and groove into sequences. There were points that felt J Dilla-esque in a few of those sequences! Also: the music you made with and for this video was top notch, especially at the 30:00 mark and beyond. SO GOOD!
Brilliant demo/tutorial. I picked up a 0-CTRL and this really is instructive AND it show me a bit how much Make Noise thinks forward... And wow - 31:50 is incredible... So was 38:10... And don't get me started on 39:20....
By about the 12-15 minute mark of this video, I became convinced this is the best CV sequencer/interface for my modular rig. Definitely adding it to my "must buy" list, once I flesh the build out a bit. As always, great overview and performance, good sir.
~28min in -- would like to have seen the elapsed time for said messing around ;-) Whoa 33:30! That was the sweet spot! the held notes later on remind me of... there was something you could press on the Reason RB338 that would freeze and hold the notes (can't remember off the top of my head what it was now...).
Ahhh.... GAS kicking in... Man, this thing is a beast!!! Best demo ever. I mean, it has only been out for like three seconds but still.... Again your video sold me :D Amazing, stuff going on here. Thank you for making another masterpiece of a demo. :)
I bought a Dfam due to your demos. Now I have eyes on this set up and I don’t suffer from G.A.S. In honesty I have been planning to get in to modular but this set up with just 2 purchases is exactly the modular outcome I was hoping to achieve, Randomness that can be tuned to the groove and then can be expanded.
I love the little moments of joy that pop up in the middle of making a patch, just like tweak this, tweak that, sit back and be like "oh man, that is nice." You can just tell you're having fun and being pleasantly surprised while messing with the 0-ctrl
I've been learning a lot from you after discovering your channel a couple weeks ago. The first 3 minutes of this video shows me you are not just a great teacher but an incredible musician as well. "Mad" as you English say. Well mad. Thanks for your inspiration.
Ace... love it. Great pairing with O Coast, which has always needed a SeqFrenn. This vid also reminds me why ErbeVerb will never leave my rack... what an awesome kombo!
I've been toying with the 0-CTRL for some weeks now and I must say that I was a bit stuck and starting to be frustrated (I found little help/inspiration in the manual (yes, I'm one of those that read them)). But! your video today has just unblocked all that, within 13mins of your explanations I'm already doing the stuff I had in mind. Thank you!
Fucking hell you're going to make me get back into eurorack. Your demos are always so musical and playful. That Time row brings awesome amounts of funk and feel to sequences.
Ohhhhh man! Just received my 0-Ctrl yesterday and LOVE it! Thanks for this great video as always. You're consistently badass and one the best there is. Recording anything? I hope to hear/see some new stuff
Thanks Darius!! I am recording bits and actually trying to get some acid like in these videos on tape - let’s see if I can manage it. Hope all goes well with your new toy!!
@@mylarmelodies thanks man. All the best to ya and look forward to the new stuff. The 0-Ctrl...it's even more than I thought it would be. Feels like you're part of the circuit when using it
My 0-Ctrl arrived yesterday. Rewatching this it is clear that this can be a fabulously organic and playable sequencer,- if you know what you’re doing. I shall have fun learning... For the avoidance of doubt, and as someone without any modular gear per se, I should be able to stack gate outputs into (say) a Behringer Crave for kick drum purposes, yes? Looking forward to seeing what I can patch into the Moog Werkstatt too!
Excellent Video. Im as much involved in the video production as I am the review. 5:30-630 I love it when the speakers voice has interesting rhythms that coincides along with the sequencer. Anyway I don't have the O-coast yet. But I think now I would purchase both at the same time. I would think it would be great addition for my DFAM and Mothers.
Always a joy to watch a mylar demo like this as you have such great real world examples of what you can do with it and you have so much fun doing it. This is an awesome little sequencer box and will by high on my list to purchase. It just looks to be so much fun to use and super powerful for only 8 steps.
Absolutely superb. Thank you for the information about the 0 Ctrl. I’m expecting mine and the 0 Coast in a couple of days and you’ve helped enormously with my understanding of it.
I've owned the make noise trio (w/another strega) for a year and somehow I never saw this video lol This is gonna open me up quite a bit in terms of having fun
lol though I really enjoy my mini keyboards with sequencers, I bought three 0 -controls and two o-coast. My original plan was to just use the Strega as a unique noise, then I started then an o-coast and an 0- play then I got the spectrograph. The Strega deserves its own setup and right next to it spectrograph is the star of that on. Of course they can still be used together, next a tempi, a Rene 2 and a Buxa, a lot to digest thank you for your guidance on how to have a good time!
Nah, I'm quite sure he doesn't mess with anything except a Cirklon these days except when he's doing some all-Roland project or something like Analord where he uses some vintage multi track Roland sequencer.
More, I think. I always wanted Brains to have a toggle switch on the panel that "separated" one of the attached Pressure Points, eg. for giving touch control over Rene's mod inputs while using Brains+PP for another sequence. I wanted this so much that I eventually bought another Brains+PP
How on earth did I miss this video and the 0-CTRL?? This is absolutely brilliant! Great job of demoing this Mr. Mylar and also great sounding musical examples. Now I have to get this sequencer... Oops! Thank you!
Hello OK! Very WELL ! HOOOO : Wonderfull. The last years i bought a modular system mainly around MAKE NOISE modules. I discovered them through demo videos and was fascinating by the large landscapes of new sounds than more classical systems can not produce. Yes, the Make Noise modules need to be explored methodically, need to read the manuals, many functions are so innovative and different of the ones from other modulars. More Buchla inspired than Moog inspired, but what wondering new travels through the electronic music. Thank You Make Noise ! NEKO
Your review is the best of the ones I've seen with the "prototype" version. I've enjoyed the entire videos and your jams were very inspiring to watch! I hope to see more with this controler in your future videos, I hope I'll be able to get mine soon! :)
the decoupling of the touch plates from the sequencer is pretty brilliant. Gah. I am deeply committed to my "only Euro stuff" position, but this little beast does give me doubts.
Right when I was sure I didn't need another sequencer... damn you Alex! I love this. It really embraces the simplicity of older analog sequencers with a host of cool integrations taken from things like pressure points and those Buchla style cap pads. But the most important thing, you make it seem so damn fun to dick with this thing . Ace indeed.
don't mean to step to anyone else who's demoing, but you really went all the way out with super listenable, musical examples
the key difference is the key difference. he respects quantisation and uses proper scales, which makes stuff musical
Facts. So many other demo videos never showcase very good musical examples. Honestly, I've been sleeping on this, and the O coast because of that. And now that I've seen both respective videos, I really want both of these synths
My thought exactly
Shut up synth spy boy power bottom
This is completely unexpected. Make Noise went precisely as far out as I have been dying to see in an analog sequencer. What a beauty.
Completely agree!
Thank you for another great video, Alex. I fondly recall the time your 0-Coast video tilted me several degrees toward buying my first hardware synthesizer. Hundreds of HP and thousands of dollars later, I still patch with it to this day.
Metahedron Alex has also destroyed my bank acct. (but in a good way) 🙂
This video is the best!!! Much love Mr Mylar! ❤️
Thanks buddy x

man im so stoked, i just preordered my no ctrl and im gonna use it with my strega, i love my strega
can not wait
This video has changed my life, god knows I need this
I wish they'd do a bundle of these in a custom case with a single power supply so it was a standalone instrument like a Music Easel or a Voltage Lab.

Your reviews have just the right amount of noise to explanations. Keep up the good work 👍
simple examples and focused on 0-CTRL functions - thanks a lot for this video!
Good grief. There's one awesome musical idea after another in this intro! I love it.

I thought I had my GAS under control watching your videos proves that it not the case. Some incredible ways to manipulate sound using the sequencer!

Your jammin..? ...I could listen/watch for hours....pure joi

Fantastic video and great jams - thanks!
Just when I thought I could sit back now I’ve filled my rack up , this comes along. Amazing performance
My verbos voltage multistage allows me to change the timing of each step, and that's a real cool feature to have it on the 0-ctrl.

Ckiller music throughout! Mylar & O-Ctrl: best friends!
Nice!! Waiting on my own 0-Coast and 0-Ctrl next week.
Wicked - Have fun!!
This looks great in a compact form. Pushing the time around is one of the great joys of analogue sequencing
When I saw this drop I was like "wow, I could do a wonderfully wonky set with just this and a BIA"
TKB style goodness at about £2000 cheaper and 5 x smaller turning 0-coast in to a Serge/Easel hybrid. Fkin winner. Preordered. Great demo
Absolutely superb. Thank you for the information about the 0 Ctrl. I’m expecting mine and the 0 Coast in a couple of days and you’ve helped enormously with my understanding of it.

I am super late to this but great demo and dope sounds at the end. Fantastic!
eine ausgezeichnete und gut verständliche demo !
Good God man. Just take my money. Both of them together. Love it.
I got my 0-Ctrl in the mail a few days ago, I had no idea that the 0-Ctrl quantizes the pattern to the clock. This is a live performance machine.
Great demo. The patch at 36 mins strangely enough reminds me of the start to The end of the affair by Ben Howard.
It's like a Brains and 2x Pressure Points, but better, plus a clock and an envelope generator. Hello, next purchase!

rewatching 2 years later,,, still wickid
Thank you for this demo Mr My Larme Lodies
Your 0-coast intros are the sickest!
Excellent work. Great showcase for the 0-Coast as well.
dude. you already made me buy an 0-coast, now this? sigh
( of course I'm kidding, that west coast acid vibe 30 minutes in is fantastic, btw )
Fantastic finale

this is insanely good patching! my ears are smiling. now imagine having to of those things. damn...

Awesome !! Beautiful analog design ! Simple and efficient
