- This is me LIP SYNCING to my own voices (plural) that I previously recorded. Read this if you want to know how I created the vocals for this. Support me on patreon if you feel like it. / truthsurge
How? Step 1: find the album track MINUS lead vocals (found this one on RUclips) Bring that into Reaper (the DAW I use) and put it on a track and add a pitch shifter to lower the key by some amount of semitones. -7 on this one. Step 2: Create two blank tracks for me to sing lead on (one for a falsetto sound and one for a chest voice sound and blend the two together to make one voice). Step 3: add basic effects to both vocal tracks AND pitch shift the backing track down by 7 semitones so I can sing in a lower key that is easier for my low baritone range. Step 4: sing it. Step 5: resing tons of it because I'm not happy with the results. Step 6: resing more of it. Step 7: fine tune tons of pitches manually because my pitches were all over the place and fine tune the eq/delay/reverb. Step 8: fine tune timings between the two vocal tracks so that they are in sync and don't sound like 2 singers Step 9: keep refining pitch and timing and even resing MORE of it till I'm happy. Step 10: realize that there is diminishing returns after a point and stop fiddling with it and render it out. Bring that into vid editor, blend with me lip syncing to it and done. Hope that makes sense.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE; I really don't know how you nailed this.
Took me days to sing it. I would sing and resing and finally landed on a sound that seemed to not suck too bad and I just kept working on it. Was not easy but pitching it down was necessary so it involved lots of parts but just singing it even in a lower key was still a challenge. Trying to keep my tone similar throughout. ty
Holy shit. I don't know what "cheating" you're referring to, but somehow you've used whatever tools are available to you to VERY closely replicate the original.
This is the second best Painkiller recording I've ever heard, and that's no shame given who will always hold number one. 🤘
aw, so kind of you. Yes, I use every tool I know how to use. I sculpted this one for sure. So, iow, I can't make these sounds LIVE but with studio "effects" and knowledge of audio, etc, I can create something similar but the bottom line is you still have to be able to sing. if you can't sing, forget about even trying what I do. It's not a button I push, it's an entire process of figuring out how to get from point A to point C or point L depending on how difficult a tune is for me. It's fun and challenging. I've got songs on here that don't have these pitching effects nor autotune but since I'm not willing to spend a month practicing a song and my voice range is really deep, I do what I can and if people dig it, cool. I think it's kind of an art form to even do what I am doing. You have to know a little bit about audio and singing and editing and have patience etc. Yeah, like I said at the start, I'm no Rob Halford! well, did I? I SHOULD have if I didn't. my memory is going! haha

ty. well, it wasn't a live vocal but it was fun singing that and hearing it come together as I experimented with some different ideas to try and get close to Rob's sound. But I really liked that high note at 6:35 my voice was distorting naturally on that one. and the killa right b4 it was breaking up from chest to falsetto/head voice so it was fun feeling my voice do that on its own.
Numerous comments of praise and this poor fella focuses on the few negative ones. Don't live in the muck, my man. You're putting yourself out there and that's great... period.
WOW! Pk is one of the hardest songs in metal and you did greately. Amazing.

too kind. I did hit one higher note than he hits in the song but Rob is or was a beast on vocals. He had the whole high range falsetto/head voice screams and stuff but it's hard to sound like him, I think. I just did my best and dat's dat. :) Like the haters always point out yes, but PITCH SHIFTED! and AUTO-TUNED! Well, I don't need autotune really, it's just a crutch so I don't have to practice singing scales every day. No patience anymore. heh

Yes thanks for the vocal tips and Edit suggestions I think they really motivated me more than anything else cause a lot of it I already knew I had to change like adding the delay which I just hadn't added yet But Trying to help me get that vocal tone on the last note was good because it just was hard for me to get that sound It definitely wasn't an Ah sound You would naturally assume that though But you gotta listen to the sound and forget what word hes singing Thanks for the help and the nice comment!!!!

I didn't actually answer you so much but I actually PITCH SHIFT the key of the backing track DOWN by x semitones, sing to THAT, then pitch it all back up to the orig key so that everyone's happy. I'm happy cuz I just like the orig keys but once in a while I did sing one in a lower key. Not this one tho. I just wanted it to sound like the record and I even put some extra sauce in there to boot. heheh I listened to your for your eyes only yesterday. you did really well on that. Very nice tone and your pitches were really on target.

Ty. Bur I did cheat a little by pitching the song down by some semitones so inbound sing it easier. Si, no way I could s8ng this live. But I'm ok with that cuz I'm having fun anyway just getting a decent result. My voice is low barit9ne but I prefer trying all these high pitched rock songs. I sing them in lower keys and shift it all up during mixing it. Ty!!!

Because I Can't really sing this Live because I'm pitching my Voice up With software. Plus I don't like talent shows or contests. I'm not at all interested even I'd I could sing that high live. I did it at home, anyone can watch it for free. What's the problem? :)

Absolutely NAILED it. In fact it sounds so much like Rob that one might think you were lip synching. However having followed your channel for a while I know you can sing and mimic other singers. Outstanding!

Yeah and all you have to do is AB the videos Pull up the painkiller video in a window and pull up this video in a window and play them back-to-back and you can hear that it's not Rob Halford's voice But if you hadn't heard pain killer before you might think it was kind of rob Howard bit really doesn't sound just like the record It's pretty obvious when you're AB them

Yeah, This one was hard in some ways I made it easier on myself by pitching the background track down so I could sing it without destroying my voice and I wouldn't be able even hit the notes really without doing that But it was always that elusive Rob Halford sound That's hard to get You can hit the notes but you don't sound like rob So I was just happy to sing it close

I sang it parts at a time over a few days. it's not a live vocal. PLUS... I cheated. and I pitched the song DOWN to an easier key and sang it lower then used tekmology - yes, tekmology - to pitch me back up. But it's still a kind of craft to arrive at a good end result. I still have the sing the thing
