    Totally agree with all your comments. #8 would be Mini/BMW's total lack of customer support. Per MINI'S service bulletin only my timing chain tensioner was replaced. 35,000 miles later timing chain jumped a tooth and $3,000+ later on my dime all fixed. At 50,000 total miles but 6 months outside the "extended" warranty on timing chain.
    Your videos are great, thanks.

    I just bought an R56 N14 turbo. It actually had a ton of the major service done recently and i got a service printout. They had just done the timing chain kit and valve cover also the thermostat housing along with the oil feed line for the turbo. They really did quite a bit of work on it before they sold it . It was from a local mini performance and service shop so I really got lucky . It just happened to be the very first mini that i went to look at . Now I'm looking for ways to improve on any of these issues that you have mentioned.

    Great video. I agree on all points. My biggest issue with this this car overall is the whole BMW/PSA engine.

    I change my oil every 10000kms or One Year in, whichever comes earlier, to that BMW recommended oil - LL01 FE 0W30. Now the stupid thing about BMW. 0W 30 grade oil can manage temperatures between minus 30 centigrade and Plus 30 centigrade. In India we often have temperatures going up to plus 40 centigrade. So we should ideally use 0W 40 grade of oil. Right now I am using 0W30 BMW LL01 FE. Next change, I will switch to probably Amsol or Shell or Liquimoly 0W40.
    My car is 9 years old now but my plastic water pump sprung a leak a year ago when I had just bought it. It had done only 33700kms. Luckily I got a new one at BMW Dubai. An OEM one. And this was metal and not plastic. I’ve since put another 10000kms on the clock in this car in the last one year and so far so good.

    My 2007 Cooper S bought in 2019 100.000 miles, needed to have the entire electric sunroof mechanism replaced (luckily under warranty at that time) It was also completely original except for an air filter
    After the first year the issues happened. Power steering would fail all of a sudden and when restarting it would sissapear but come back more frequent every time un till they reset it and then that stopped for 5 months and then started again...apparently I would need a completely new electrical housing etc (BMW quoted 2700 euro's for the fix) and another specialist 1200 with second hand refurbished parts..(I did not have that fixed yet thankfully)
    As mentioned in your video mine needed oil every 2 tanks of petrol...
    Then whilst driving to work all of a sudden I had no more power and was lucky to be able to shift 2 lanes to the emergency lane.
    It seemed a bracket for the distribution chain broke and caused havoc in my engine bay. after that it was determined to be a write off as fixing it would be more expensive that the current value of the car.
    Never again will I buy a Mini, I love them but don't dare it again.

      The Mini world be be so much better if they would have solved those things before production

    Wow that burnt valve bs sucks man !! I wonder if you ceramic coat the hot side with a turbo blanket ?

    • @ianreed4636
      @ianreed4636 4 года назад +1

      And maybe if there is a way to get more of an air gap between the turbo and the head ?

    • @ProjectMini
      @ProjectMini  4 года назад

      That and you can buy valves that can handle the heat

    You can buy your own walnut blaster for less that having BMW do the work. And just do it yourself if you have enough confidence in yourself.

    A lot of what you're talking about is Peugeot parts, not BMW. BMW had no part in assembling the N1X engines.

    • @ProjectMini
      @ProjectMini  4 года назад

      I don’t disagree with you at all. But this video is about the R56 Mini Cooper S that was sold by BMW and not Peugeot.
      I’m actually a big fan of the N14 engine BTW
