I’ve had mine since new as only owner. 19years old. I’ve serviced it myself and maintained it myself. The only issues I’ve had in 19 years is the door lock cable pops out which I glued back in, and brakes worn. Not bad for 19 years use. Even the aircon still works!!!

    otherwise no problems.

Mini Coopers are actually harder to service and maintain than a Mustang. If you actually end up owning this car for 5 years, you will spend around 8-12k repairing/replacing parts. My younger sister had a 2021 hardtop S model. After 2 years, she ended up hitching rides in my 2018 Sonata and her boyfriend's 2020 Si all the time because the Cooper had leaks and rattled loudly and didn't pick up speed past 3000 rpm. She was tired of fixing it and paying all that cash to repair it. It was fun while it lasted, though. Great fun.

That is what scares me about buying one is getting nickeled and dimed out of money that could have gone to a more reliable and prob 85% as fun and quirky car. I'm already getting out of a car with tons of little issues (Fiat 500)

I fixed the auto selector park issue myself. The issue is a tiny broken spring. I took the unit apart, it’s a bit fiddly but took me all in about 4 hrs most of that was getting to it without snapping trim. just unwound one turn on the spring and it’s been good for 4 years.

I genuinely loved my used 6-Speed 2005 MINI Cooper S (R53). However, I got burnt by it and its constant need for repairs! My last straw was when I had to drop $2K at the mechanic for repairs only for the car to still act up. I finally decided to sell it. Granted, I did upgrade both the supercharger and crankshaft pulleys to aluminum performance so my MINI it did not perform “as originally built”. I love the MINI brand and its heritage and would love to get into one but the mechanical nightmare left me with a bad taste. Greetings from the US! 🇺🇸

Had a first gen (r53) Cooper S, cracking car with the supercharger whine, great handling and fast enough, probably the most fun car to drive that I've ever owned. Downsides constants oil leaks, noisy electric steering pump, had a pulley reduction on mine without changing the intercooler (my own fault) which cause the supercharger to overheat and damaged the bearings making the blades to touch and sent metal pieces into the engine, horrible mpg. If you're a car guy who likes to contantly look after your car definitely get one if you're not and need some more peace of mind, then stay away from them

You forgot to mention erratic window module. You press up while parked and it goes half way and comes back down and this happens over and over until you start driving. My 08 Mini has 248K miles and runs like a champ. It has experienced almost every issue you mention but I do all my own mechanical work so It hasn't been too bad. Great car and 40mpg feels great!

    Hi I have a clubman 59 1.6 petrol.
The heater wasn’t working at all.
Changed the resistor 3 times still not working. (Got sick n tired of driving without any heaters)
Clipped wire on to resistor earthed it on to door hinge n boom heater works perfectly except blows only at full power.
Now I’m wondering if it’s the control unit or is there a bad earth wire going to the resistor??
Has anyone had this problem or is there anyone that can shed some light on this.
I really appreciate any advice on what it could possibly be.

The US Better Business Bureau received complaints about the Mini Cooper Footwell Module unit (FRM).
    Questions:
    1. Is the FRM a known defective part? If so, shouldn’t the FRM unit be recalled and replaced for free instead of customers being encouraged to pay over $2,000 (USD) for an extended parts warranty?
This could be a major car safety issue, even in 3rd generation Minis!
    2. Is the FRM damaged every time the car battery is replaced? If so, the repair could tentatively be over $1,500, including labor for a new car battery and new FRM unit, every 4-5 years.
    3. What assurances do customers have when purchasing a pre-owned Mini? (i.e. Have the car batteries and FRM units been thoroughly inspected, calibrated, repaired and/or replaced?
The Mini service advisor cannot just tell owners of pre-owned Minis that the car was purchased “AS IS” and expect the customer to pay for potentially known defective parts.
There are some questions that need to be answered by the Mini Cooper/BMW corporation to the customers.
Buyers beware! Check your US state for car lemon laws.

The second gen engines from the psa group suffered badly with cam chain issues. If someone with a 3rd generation car now thinks their car is prone to any of these issues then your video wouldn’t have helped.
Much better to divide the video up into 3 sections, one for each generation.

    2001?
    How is that?
I bought the first one in 2002.
I did order it in the spring of 2001 when I was deployed in the army?
    How is that?
Can you prove it with data and documents.
