I've had a 2011 R56 Mini Cooper since new, had it serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, have always driven it with due respect and have never experienced any issues at all!
Hi Charlie, the only replacements have been the usual consumables at a service, - oil, oil filter, air filter, wipers, coolant, screen wash etc. I've also had the tyres replaced too, but I've spent nothing at all on repairs. Hope this helps. 😊👍
The secret to any cars reliability is proper care and proper maintenance. When you are buying a used car you will see many advertised as full service history, but unless is still fairly new it’s almost always not true.. very few owners continue to service their car properly after the first 3 years or so. Those that do, and drive the car some respect for the car do normally get rewarded with long and trouble free life. If you are the kind of person that thinks a service is an oil change then this does not apply!

Your problem is you do not know how to choose a car!
You have to check maintenance records. If the seller doesn't have them, walk away. If they do have them, first check how often the oil is changed. Every 3,000 miles? 5,000 miles? If it's never been driven over 5,000 on the dot without an oil change then you know it's looked after. Move on to other items, like the coolant pump, when fluids are replaced, and check for things like tire rotation and wheel alignment. Has the timing chain tensioner been replaced? Is there any rust on the vehicle? When was the clutch last worked on? For a manual car like this with a couple known issues that can cost $1,000-2,000 to repair after the fact, these are things you need to address. If the car was well maintained and documented you will be able to expect how much repairs will cost you by judging the service record; "Oh yes, these 3 things were done but the clutch has not been replaced and the vehicle is at 80,000 miles. I was quoted $1,200 for a new clutch with labor. Therefore it will cost me $1,200 plus oil changes, gas, and initial insurance premium."

I probably didn’t explain my self perfectly in this video but honestly the mechanic straight up told me they are very problematic cars in over all. Now I am not saying every Mini Cooper of those years it’s bad because depends how they have been kept and treated, but in overall they are very problematic and cheap for a reason to buy, Because to maintain them it’s really really expensive. They charge you for bmw parts and it’s not nearly close the quality as bmw. Thank you so much for the feedback and I hope I got to explain myself a little better

Well that was my experience with that car. I personally I will never buy one again just because for what it cost and what it offers it just doesn’t make sense for me. If you do get one I will suggest to get a warranty on it
you have the non turbo version so of course it wont move. Sport button is only meant for turbo. I have a 2011 S and its quick. Enough to satisfy me and not look for anything faster.

I have a feeling I know who you bought this lemon from. It has to do with mini owners being primarily people that have no clue how cars work, so they follow the false recommendation by Mini to replace the oil every TEN thousand miles. Meaning your car only had 5 oil changes in it's life! Any car will blow up from this kind of flat out abuse.

Ill tell you right now. The R56 is a beautiful car. Especially the S. However. Parts wear down fairly prematurely and are expensive to repair/replace if you want oem parts. My 2010 S has 65k and ive already had to replace HPFP, water pump, coolant reservoir, water pipe, timing chain, valve service with walnut shells. Thats another problem: GDI engines are notorious for misfires and not very reliable. Beautiful car, nonetheless its a piece of crap! P.S. not a good road trip car....

I just traded my motorcycle for a 2012 yesterday. Excellent. Lol
just an advice,, the music was so load, nevertheless, you did not mentioned what happened to MINI's after 2013? are they any better? or what? thanks and pay attention to the music in the next video
I owned the same year MINI, very fragile and expensive to fix and maintain. Drives nice though.
Love my 2014 mini coupe , drives like a dream!!
Hope it’s the S model 🏎💨
Yes!
MP Power yes!!
sold our 2011 mini last year.. too many probs. leaking trans and front suspension problems.
Glad I saw this vid before buying one..
I probably didn’t explain my self perfectly in this video but honestly the mechanic straight up told me they are very problematic cars in over all.
Now I am not saying every Mini Cooper of those years it’s bad because depends how they have been kept and treated, but in overall they are very problematic and cheap for a reason to buy,
Because to maintain them it’s really really expensive.
They charge you for bmw parts and it’s not nearly close the quality as bmw.
Thank you so much for the feedback and I hope I got to explain myself a little better
Man was driving with the parking break on XD
I have a 2011 with an N16 engine, 72,000 miles and the #3 cylinder is way down on compression. Seems to be in the valves.
i have a 2012 mini cooper hardtop.. my experience has been good as i have only had it since january 31st.. but now hearing the engines can mold?!! thats what he said right!
The problem bmw had with the minis was the French engine made by peogeot
You don't need the music.
It’s not a race car bro
Just bought a mini 2010 used. Didn’t have the car for 3 weeks and the engine light popped on. Took it to a Mini Cooper dealership and they did a thorough diagnostic on the car 2200 is what it will cost to repair smh!
I paid around 2500$ to fix the engine, and still won’t run properly!
Which one you got the turbo or just the regular one?
@@mppower5141 damn I can buy a 2008 for under 2000$ but unsure now
James Rusnak man it will cost you so much on repairs 🙈
It’s not worth it
My car was very low miles and end it up costing me so much to fix it!!!
And took me so long to get rid of it
@@mppower5141 there are how to do an inspection videos on coopers. im seeing a super charger 2006 shortly. will look into how much tools cost
Oh no 😟 after hearing what you just told I need to think twice before I am thinking of getting it, mini Cooper alwasy been in my first choice after driving my 12 years old Mazda 3, I thought it's time for a change 🙁what to do? I was looking forward to my cool mini Cooper 😧
Well that was my experience with that car. I probably been unlucky with it a little bit more than some other people but what I can tell you is nothing like a bmw but most parts are bmw and mechanics they charge a lot of money for this car and parts because it’s a little complicated car to work on it.
I personally I will never buy one again just because for what it cost and what it offers it just doesn’t make sense for me.
If you do get one I will suggest to get a warranty on it
Iv just gone to test drive a mini cooper! What a bag on nuts and bolts!
Mine has 150k on it it still works great
Thanks for sharing bro. Am equally looking to buy one but not 2010 and below; at least 2011 upwards.
Did you get one bro?
If you don’t know how to wrench on cars you probably also never check the vital fluids levels such as oil levels that will save you lots of headaches.
you have the non turbo version so of course it wont move. Sport button is only meant for turbo. I have a 2011 S and its quick. Enough to satisfy me and not look for anything faster.
When you say 2013 do you mean 2014 production years 3rd generation? Second generation R56/57 was also available in 2013.
I have a 2008 R52 with a supercharger and it runs like new. The only problem I've had with it is i had to replace the ignition switch and steering column. 🤷♂️
2008? The superchaged models stopped in mid 2006.
I have had my R52S for more than 16 years, no major problems whatsoever, just the odd minor thing as you would expect.
Mini and Mexican don’t go well. The filler on the top of the engine black thing is where the oil goes.
Stefan T wtf rude
this guy is clearly Eastern European you dumb fuck
Lol.
Hey I got a 2009 s 6 speed manual if you can't maintain the car's and do the timing chain water pump thermostat housing fuel pump ,but mainly keep it full of oil and coolant. Probably not for you I have 110,000 on mine and dog the shit out of it . It's a fun car my wife wanted it but I like it to.
Good video
Thank you so much man
Much appreciate your feedback and support
🤜🏻🤛🏻💯
I have owned a 2005 Minicooper S with John Cooper Works (JCW) for 17 years’ (after 7 years) ’
After 7 years what happened
Did you have a good experience with the car or did you put lots of money on it
I have a feeling I know who you bought this lemon from. It has to do with mini owners being primarily people that have no clue how cars work, so they follow the false recommendation by Mini to replace the oil every TEN thousand miles. Meaning your car only had 5 oil changes in it's life! Any car will blow up from this kind of flat out abuse.
It my be ..
I think the biggest problem for this one was because the car was sitting in the garage for over 1 year.!
It makes sense what your saying to
Your problem was that u have an automatic and base model Mini Cooper s with n18 engine very good
I own 2014 mini coopers S countryman all4. It sucks! Engine seals keep failing.
My daughter has a 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman and she loves it. Never had any issues with it so far (knock on wood). Maybe you just got a crappy one bro.
That’s good...
This video was one of my very first videos and wasn’t the best explanation...
The thing about this car if it broke down it’s really expensive for what it is .
Because it’s a bmw that’s why
Ok so what changed in 2014 then? That’s what I’ve been waiting for but you didn’t say what changed
I’ve got a 2008 Mini Cooper goes well , maybe you spend too much time talking with your cat😂😂😂
Maybe the cat had to do to 🤷🏻♂️
Anyway I been responding to many other people this being one of my first videos on my channel, and in top of that it’s just happen to have a bad luck with this one I guess.
I was just keeping fixing and fixing things and I got tired of it.
In my opinion Mini in USA doesn’t go that much as Europe
I have a 2009 mini clubman I've had it for maybe 3 years it's been nothing but issues lol, I've taken it to the mini service center maybe 3 times everytime they said it was good as new and then 2 months later something else goes wrong. Just last night driving home the check engine light came on AGAIN after just having been told it's perfectly fine
@@tank123103 sorry to hear that...
I honestly had the same problem to pretty much.! I will take it to a mechanic and sometime later something else broke and honestly I just wanted to get rid of this car because its also pretty expensive to fix anything in those cars to.
My suggestion just sell it and get something else man
@@mppower5141 I really want to but y'know it's my first car and I can't help but love it's silly face lol I have waisted so much money tho ._.
@@tank123103 I understand that but the amount of money I was putting in to it it was crazy.
It’s hard to sell a car especially after some time because no matter what you fell in love with it
I’m not here for a nightclub session. Poor video
That’s hilarious bro ....
I know bro, living and learning ...
i.m thinking to buy mini clupman cooper what you recommend?
I don’t know if you live in USA or Europe?
I think mini in USA it’s a a lot mor expensive then Europe.! Especially in maintenance sense it has lots of parts from BMW.
In my opinion if the dealership gives you a good deal and a good warranty go for it. If not be prepared because if something breaks it’s pretty expensive !
I live in Australia and the car i want to buy it's 2009 84k asking for $4500 AUD private seller
Ask if the car been seating for to long or not ?!
Don’t get tricked just because it’s an low miles
I bought mine for 50k miles and broke after 2k miles!
It’s an amazing expensive car to maintain man
I recommend a different car to be honest unless your buying from a dealership with a warranty
@@mppower5141 thank you so much I fined AC not working and it's leaking and it's really expansive I have to spend another $3000 could be more to fix so I don't want to buy thank again far from Australia
If already having all this problems don’t even think about.
It’s really really complicated to work on those cars and expensive.
Bro I totally agree with you.
The only thing, was my very first mini and happen to be not a good one ! Reason why because it was setting in a garage for over a year and lost of things went bad.
When I went to the mechanic most of them they’re telling me it’s not worth it on fixing it because it’s expensive.
I finally find one almost 2500$ to fix even tho hi didn’t do a good job .
I just figured it’s not worth of taking a chance with those years for the Mini Cooper because they are really expensive to fix that’s all .
Nobody said they were faster than a Porsche and if you want to go faster get the car that has 300+ HP
Didn't you test drive it before you bought it?
😢 I was considering a British green 2013 car…
It’s all bmw parts pretty much. And it’s not even close to a bmw!
If you really want one buy one with warranty because it can get expensive real quick
Before 2013 is the correct grammar, not under. You're welcome.
My bad bro 🙈
Your right 👍🏻💯
@@mppower5141 ;) :)
Thanks 💯
Mine takes off a lot faster then that I also lot got a stick shift
You just brought a lemon..
me with my newly acquired 2008 mini cooper 😅
Why would you complain about speed when you bought a base model.
Thank You
I was going to buy one tomorrow
Now: No thanks!
The loud ass crappy music couldn"watch
Amazing video 👍
Should i buy a second hand mini copper in 3000$
Nooooooooooooooooooo
My recommendation stay a way they are very very expensive to fix!

😂😂😂😂
No no it’s not that it’s just to expensive for what it is.!
audio mixing sucks on the video
Sorry man I filmed with my phone!!
Trying to get some better equipment slowly
Mines just jumped it timing chain and destroyed the engine.
No warning of low oil etc until it was way too late.
Utter shite
I totally understand
This car was braking on me so many times and all the mechanics I went they will charge a lot of money on working in this car!
Personally I don’t think I will own another Mini after what I went through with this one
@@mppower5141 I'm struggling to find a replacement engine but once I do it will be fixed then sold.
I certainly won't own another one.
They are terrible
@@leearmstrong9763 this video wasn’t the best explain done because I made this video right after I picked up from the mechanic and I was so upset and probably I didn’t mention everything but honestly I won’t recommend anyone to buy a mini unless you get a warranty with it otherwise no.
I just kept putting money on it so many times and the car wasn’t getting fixed so I decided to sell after I made this video.
You wanted VTek for sport mode? You’re just not the right owner for an old car, I accept that
That’s not tru.
All of my cars are older than that.
It’s just this car it’s absolutely not worth it at all
Its an expensiv car.
Dont racomend IT to

So many wrong things with this video, CinemaSins could do an episode on it.
Goddamn, driving on a busy road while filming? Terribly inconsiderate.
Good video but I hate the music 🎶 ahhhhhh 😭
Those cars are expensive in maintenance 😩
All cars are expensive in maintenance when you have to replace the engine.
i think it is just a one off thing
mini is a good car brand i thnk your car
is faulty
Interesting... and somewhat helpful but I think you expect too much from a 4-cylinder vehicle. Also, the music is HORRENDOUS, no offense but it was literally painful, I had to FFWD.
I understand... this was one of my beginning videos and for some reason I didn’t aspect this video it will get so many views.
I was so upset with the car how much money I had to spend to fix it .
Thanks for checking out the channel anyway and thanks for the feedback

I won’t recommend buying on to be honest
It's a BMW underneath, what do you expect.
The R56 model has a Peugeot made engine not BMW. They didnt use a BMW engine until the 3rd Gen
