Hello mate, is that a dip40 adapter? I've also been looking for some cheap ish code writers, can I use any wellon one or do you have any other suggestions?
Hello again William, it’s a DIP44 to PLCC44 adaptor and I use a Wellon VP990, there is a few other Wellon that will do but best to get the higher spec one, definitely don’t bother with the cheap programmers as you’ll kill loads of chips and when using OTP chips it’s painful 😂 cheers mate 👍
Thanks man 😁 yea they’re a bit tricky to get open and the oil getting in there is a common issue so best to replace the injector wiring harness under the rocker cove mate 👍
Are these types of ecu as programmable as the later ones or would it to be best to swap out it out for the newer one and program that? Cheers in advance 👍🏻
They can’t be re-mapped via the OBD port like the NNN but you can get rewritable chips and once you’ve fitted the socket you can pop the chip out and rewrite as many times as you want. It actually only takes me about 20 minutes to fully chip a MSB ECU anyway 👍 cheers
Hi, it’s a Wellon UP990 and the chip is a 44 pin PLCC 27c1024 and a PLCC44 surface mount socket, I make my own maps. You can use other programmers but some of the cheaper ones often do bad writes to 27c and as they are only write once it corrupts the chip but you can use other chips. Cheers 👍
Hi just finished watching your vid for the second time and would love to give it a go but the equipment is not available to me. Just wondering by any chance do you do this as a service, where and how much. Cheers Rich.
Hi Rich, Yes no problem, it’s my job and I’m based near Manchester uk but can do your ecu via post if needed and it’s not expensive, you can email me mastaz@live.co.uk or through my website www.mastaz.co.uk and I’ll make your td5 fly 😁 thanks Shane
The firmware for the vehicle type and fuel maps are stored on the 27c1024 chip (one in the video). The injector codes, throttle settings, immobiliser code etc. are stored on the little 8 pin chip 93c46 eprom near it 👍 cheers
Hi, I enjoyed watching this video. I have a question. I am in the process of a TD5 engine project. Installing a DISCO 1 on a gasoline engine. Is there a way to run it without an intelizer?
Hi, great video ! Does this procedure apply to a 2002 td5 discovery ? 2.5 138hp. If it doesn't, how much would you charge me if I email you the ecu file ? Keep up the good work ! 👍👍
Where do you buy an NNN chip from to fit? And can it be mapped with a nanocom after being fitted to the ECU or does the map have to be already loaded on the chip?
Hi, you only have to synchronise the ecu (learn security code), your keys and remote fobs will work just the same, you should also program your injector codes for best results, although it’s not totally necessary 👍
Hi!!! I have a discovery td5 2004 What can you do in this ? And how many power more it takes and how will cost ... Tnx.. Great video !!! Great work !!!
Thanks for the compliment. Your 2004 TD5 D2 can be re-mapped via OBD port so no need to take the ecu apart, price for a map is £150 and with the more powerful maps can get over 190bhp no problem. Thanks 👍
Hi. The post 2002 NNN type ECU for the 15p engine can be programmed via OBD (Re-Mapped) but the pre 2002 MSB type ECU for the 10p engine cannot be programmed via the OBD so need to be chipped as there is no flash chip and only a write once EPROM.👍

hi i need a help my land rover discovery 2004 td5 was parked for 15 days. when i tried to start it. the remote didnt worked then i had to open wd key. the car isnt starting now and the engine check light is nt showing. plz hlp
Hi, if the engine check light isn’t coming on with ignition and you can’t hear the fuel pump then it’s likely that the ecu isn’t getting power (unless the ecu is faulty) the fuse box under the bonnet is a common failure as the internal connections can fail, there’s many things it could be but there’s a good place to start 👍
Hi Andy As you have now got a 15p engine you should use the later 15p NNN type ecu to suit, also you would need to have the 4 pin air sensor rather than the 3 pin that lives in the side of the air filter box and run the extra wire to the ECU or use a 15p engine loom. The easy option would be to use 10p injectors in the 15p engine (make sure you set the preload) that way you can keep the original 10p ecu setup. Your not really meant to swap injectors from 10p and 15p as they are at different angles in the head as 15p have an offset combustion chamber in the piston crown and the stroke delivery is longer due to the injector rocker shaft setup but if you only change the injectors alone and set preload then it will be fine. Thanks Shane Mastaz

As long as it’s a decent size intercooler and the piping is same diameter then should be fine mate 👍
Good to see you are using an earthing strap when working on the circuitry!!
Never had any static killing components and done thousands of ECU’s over the years, but yes should really use one 👍
