How to read and write a Bosch EDC16 ECU using BDM100: Read description before watching or commenting

- A guide detailing opening the ECU, connecting the BDM adaptor and reading and writing the ECU within the BDM software. The video shows how to use the original EVC BDM100 tool with a spring probe, and also how to use the chinese BDM100 tool with a soldered connection.
Update 1: This is an old video now, and we actually don't recommend the soldering technique, it's better to spend just a little extra and get the spring probes and a positioning frame, this reduces the risk of damaging the ECU. It's very easy to pull the pads off of the board.
Update 2: The Kess V2 does a very good job of programming the EDC16 over the OBD port, so you don't necessarily need to remove and open the ECU any more. At the time of making this video most tools were unstable over the OBD method and this is why we made this video.
Update 3: For bench programming it's better to use a tool which does not require the ECU to be dismantled such as PCM Flash or Combi loader.

When soldering always remember that solder will creep TO the heat i.e. your solderingtip. It's best to apply a little solder to your tip and hold the tip on one side of the object to be soldered and apply the solder on the opposite side.

Search the hardware numbers, or open the lid and look after processor. Edc15 is c167, 16 is mpc, 17 infineon

first you placed red stripe to the left (from your position) and when soldering to the right... how to know which one is correct to avoid frying ecu? :(
yt2011F both are different tools. One is the proper bdm from evc, the soldered connection is the cloned cheap tool from eBay. It's actually dimsport 555pro a complete different tool.

Most likely any 12vdc power supply. Most home internet routers use a 12vdc power supply. Find an old one that you don't need, or that someone has junked.
Cut the cord that you would normally connect to the router, (unplugged of course or you will get shock 🌩 😲 yourself, catch on fire 🔥 and possibly die 💀).. Separate the wires and then plug it in, next get a multimeter set to VDC identify + and - wires.
@@chrisd1828 Or the power brick always has the output voltage molded into tiny letters on the case of the plug/wall wart to tell you what is up.
Hi are the tune maps in the EEPROM as well? What is in the flash memory? And is there a way to read the firmware from the chip?

One criticism [only small]. You should solder ON the same way you soldered OFF ie. by applying the solder directly onto the joint...not bring the solder to the joint on the iron.. it gets what we call icicles' which don't stick and go crystalline..
One thing you didn't really delve into was the advantage of downloading the ECU data and tuning it as opposed to the standard OBDII port method. ie. what am I getting extra that I might want?

It is no way to delete the converter friend since exhaust gas runs trough it :) . The only way is to delete your car :) .

Can one retrain a 2004 Honda Odyssey ecm with this method and if so can one retrain the ecm to forget about the transmission so it may run successfully as if it had a manual transmission??? Also to trick the ecu to not rev limit before v-tec engauges so that you get the full power band?? I am buying a ecm training module that is similar to the one used here and I want to know before I put in investable money further into this tech

how can you tell if the bdm100 you want to buy is 'legit'... also are there various pogo probes available for different ecus? are they different for CAN-BUS vs K-Line?
The real bdm is around 700 euros plus tax, the fake bdm is 10 euros 😉
The real bdm from EVC is awesome, I've had mine for probably 7 or 8 years now and I use it several times most days. Best money I ever spent.

Kess works good but not at all ECU types, for that u need to use Ktag with BDM.

What about cutting around the glued edge with angle knife/ box cutter once the corner is started?
On certain ecus the glue is much stronger, so you will need to carefully do this with a Stanley knife, but on this example it has the weak light grey glue so it was easy to open. Typically on vehicles where the ecu is exposed the glue will be much much stronger for example the older berlingo vans where the ecu can get wet.

he man when you used the BDM100 from ebay on the ecu you have solder 10 pins plug without space so evc mentioned that the pin 3,4 ,13 and 14 are not used how you can read the ecu

Kess KTAG is the equivalent of bdm100 with more capabilities

Why dont you use MPPS? I assume it reads and writes as well - what is the difference?
+Dimitry Linnik Because with mpps you read 1/2 of the file and if during writing ecu died , you dont have any backup.With BDM you can clone in FULL ecu.If sometime is needing to swap ECU you can do it for 5 min.
Without learning keys ex...Only Mercedes is a problem because BDM pins are in oposite side of the board.

All obd flashers are not 100% secure. And with flashers you cant have eeprom to all edc16 ecus.So for edc16 the best is BDM read.
You can read and write obd 1000 cars with no problem, and 1001 maybe will die during the process.

thomas Admiral Hi, It's important you stop now before you damage beyond repair. If you can get a full bdm read using this tool or a kess ktag, then I can repair the file for you. Very important that you don't attempt to program anything over bdm without first making a full backup, the OBD file you have is half blank so it's very important not to use that over the bdm 100

I never saved my eeprom before I did diesel scandal fix :(:( now my car sucks !!! would you have a placer where I could find eeprom that would work with my car ? or should I downgrade diesel scandal software first ? in that case how in hell do I do that ?! ?! ? please help !!!
i put the fizical eprom to another ecu, ecu ho is identical model, the car works ok, if dont work with eeprom move, put the flash .
