plot theory: thomas’s driver is always doing those stupid shenanigans in the nitrogen era because he wants thomas to screw up and learn his lesson. that strategy isn’t working, but he’s doing it anyways
I just realised that "The Thomas Way" is a better version of "Up, Up, and Away". Thomas and a green guy have to transport something on a flatbed that can't fit through tunnels.
4:27 I think I can explain this one. Thomas connected The lion with Syrup because of a very UK specific reference. The most famous brand for Golden syrup in the UK is Lyle's and for over 140 years this has been branded with a dead lion on the tins (It's a biblical reference). Anyhow, if Thomas has ever transported syrup before, or even just seen track side bill bords advertising the stuff, it's most likely had a huge image of a Lion on it. Agreed it is stupid his crew never correct him on this.
What I fricking HATE about the Nitrogen and Hit era episodes... is just how no logic goes into anything. Engines can just go anywhere, like Gordon taking the express literally anywhere but the main line, the awful dialogue that is just degrading, engines roaming around the railway, light engine and the fact they need a 20 Ton steam locomotive to deliver something that could EASILY be transported by another form of vehicle.
They always intended for these shows for little kids who they see as dumb asses who don't have any processing power what so ever. Heck, kids deserve better, both new and older fans. But no...
i'm so convinced that Edward Strikes Out was originally written to be James Strikes Out but for some reason, the higher ups felt Edward needed more screen time and gave him this story
I agree! It seems like the higher ups at HiT Entertainment clearly couldn’t care any less about Edward during this era in general, let alone learning about his actual character, so it just makes sense!
James WAS Actually Supposed To Be The Main Character In "Edward Strikes Out", No, "James Strikes Out" But His Model Wasn't Working, But Instead Of Waiting For It To Be Fixed, The Money-Hungry Crew At HIT Entertainment Was Too Impatient, And Decided To Use Edward Of All Engines As The Main Character For "James Strikes Out" No, "Edward Strikes Out! Seriously, They Could Have Used Henry For This Episode, Since That's How He Was Portrayed In The Classic Era And The Railway Series: As A Douche And A D*ck But With A Soft Side And A Love For Nature, And The Episode Would Have Worked A Lot Better, But No, The Crew Was Too Money-Hungry, So They Had To Use Edward!
Wonky whistle is undeniably awful But what the Brenner Era Did was Take that hated horrendous episode and reworked it. Instead it’s Percy who takes sheep but accidentally damages his cattle van and doesn’t realize until he gets to Farmer McColl. Very Important Sheep rivals that episode and wins
The Brenner era had one episode where Dowager Hatt took over the railway for a day, and was pure satire of what people didn’t like about the more childish era of the show, including at least some of these episodes It was funny
All things considered, I'm absolutely shocked that you didn't include Toby and the whistling woods in this review. That episode is just weird like it's freaky and nonsensical
If he saw the learning segment, SURELY he’d remember the narrator saying Edward agreed with Gordon about Rocky cause apparently Edward thought Gordon was always right.
Dishonerable mention: The Marvelous Machinery episodes. The machines all go against the series's rules! Thomas was meant to take place in the 1950s, not the future! James A Williams said that all of the machines look like something out of a fantasy sequence and I agree with him. This is what happens when the fantasy sequences become canon!
Oh yeahhhhhh you’re not wrong about that I remember him talking about that double length episode in one of this Thom Tober review vids where how he didn’t understand and what year does this normally take place in
I think there are worse than the lion of Sodor. Thomas didn’t know what the lion of Sodor was so it makes sense for him to think it’s a real lion. But not listening to your friends one feet far from you…Really Thomas, are you deaf!?
30:19 I think phantom Strider summarise that part best Normally in the show there’s a consequence behind the engines recklessness but that’s all forgotten. Here in an event that could’ve led to multiple life’s being lost in the real world.
21:04 Random thing, but the US dub of this bad episode bugs the heck out of me. In the UK Dub, there’s a line that goes “Whenever they meet they like to greet each other with a toot and a hoot.” In the US Dub, the line is read as “Whenever they meet, they like to greet. Each other with a toot! And a hoot!”. IDK, how it sounds bugs the mech out of me.

Ever since Magic Railroad, the quality has gone down horrendously bad. It is all abt being "rlly useful" than "being a goddamn engine that works". Also the part where they always say "Sir Topham Hatt came to Tidmouth sheds"-where else should he bloody go lmao! Also the part where they consistently say "Gordon likes pulling the express Percy likes pulling the mail", I be like-ah boy that's the 1001st time you've said it
Man remember how Season 5 was so badass? Yeah what a shame that was peak for the series. But I guess without the fluff from the rest onwards we wouldn't have cool fan series like Stories of Sodor.
12:52. Respectfully, I disagree with it being a "disappointing" episode; I'd consider it more "baffling". For me, a "disappointing" episode would be something that _could_ be good, but falls flat for one reason or another (take "The Old Bridge" or "Edward the Very Useful Engine", for example). Something that builds up an expectation, and either drops it or never follows through. I describe this one as "baffling" because, IMO, not a single aspect of the story works from a narrative standpoint, and there's no real way to fix it without completely rethinking it. Even if you replace Edward with James, it doesn't really make sense for him to react so negatively to a crane (if anything, I'd expect James to be _more_ receptive to Rocky, since he was rescued by the breakdown train in his first ever appearance). Not to take away from the rest of the video, though. I can definitely share in your frustration in all these episodes.
It’s so weird you mentioned having been frightened of some things from Thomas, as I was with some episodes too! Buzz buzz was one of them, I remember never being able to watch any episode with James in as a kid. Frightened me to death that red nose 😂 and also a scarf for Percy when he gets the jam on him, I thought it was blood growing up and it scared me so couldn’t watch that episode 😂 so silly looking back though

15:29 firefighters use a device called a mobile data terminal or mdt for short which tells them about the call their going on. So why didn’t Flynn have one of these?
I'm surprised no one (to my knowledge) has rewritten Edward Strikes Out to make Edward in character. My idea; scrap Edward's group think. Have him disagree with Gordon, reminding him he was once new fangled. Gordon says Rocky needs to prove himself. Still have Edwards's trucks not be secure, but not from Edward being careless. Old flatbed (think the old vans in S4 Fish). Could make Rocky forget to tell Edward until after he leaves, he calls out to him but too late. OR left field idea; have Gordon bump them too hard after being assigned a goods train. He leaves the flatbed behind. Edward obviously has his accident, but Harvey is the first responder either because Rocky is busy or Harvey just got there first. Don't let Harvey be on Gordon's line. Thomas and Emily instead pass Edward and Harvey on the open line. Gordon comes the other way, Thomas tries to warn him but Gordon won't listen. He then eventually comes into view of Edward and the pipes but it's too late. He derails. Finally, Rocky arrives and gets to work. Edward says to gordon something along the lines of "Has Rocky proven himself now Gordon?" etc etc moral of the story roll credits. Apologies for the long post.
This might be an unpopular idea, but i think the perfect main character for Edward Strikes Out would be Harvey. Because he would be worried about being replaced by Rocky and becomes a little stubborn when lifting the pipes and also, he would understand that he wouldn't be repleaced, obviously, and that Rocky can't move on his own but is strong and Harvey while not as strong, he can go anywhere he needs to be.
7:35 yo I just had an idea from looking at this. What if a majority of the episodes where a character isn't acting like themselves, they're replace with a character that actually makes sense.
Honestly, I've seen alot of bad episodes, but the worst in my opinion, is season 12's "Push me pull you". at least there's no "What a beautiful day" in the beginning, but it's the worst Skarloey episode by far... in my opinion.
Why do bad Thomas episodes feature balloons? Thomas's Frosty Friend is bad, Up, Up and Away is even worse, All Engines Go also has a bad episode about a balloon, and I'm pretty sure there are some more of these…
Despite the nitrogen era writers getting lazier and worse. I just think the nitrogen era did get what Thomas was really about. Train doing stuff and being real I’ll give them out. Bwba wanted to make Thomas into Paw Patrol. But yea these episodes are very bad. I just wished that the writers would get better. And well it did thank you Andrew Brenner. This video was recommended to me. Great video.
My top five least favorite Thomas episodes are: 5) Thomas and the Statue 4) Harvey to the Rescue 3) Thomas snowman episode 2 Edward Strikes Out 1) Forever and ever
So i have a theroy for why rocky asked if he could come with Edward. I think if there WAS a crash then he would clean it up IG but yeah you hav a point with Rocky being heavy af for edward and the pipes he has. but i think they also tilted the camra bc idk if a model train can pull a 1000 ton crane up a steep hill on set.

As much as The Lion of Sodor sucks, Push Me Pull You Should be at least number 5.
2:36 Yes Bro that joke was unessasary
I thought you were going to say Edwards Exploit
13:35 that one ok
13:22 i agree even if my favorite character of the seriers is Edward but he can be stupid as me sometimes😂

Season 15 has the most rhyming in the series
14:51 OHHHH GOD NOOOOO🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I like to think wonkey whistle takes place in season 1 idk if I said this already bc Thomas is overly dumb and acts like his season 1 self
So what i think is that gordon had done ALL of his jobs so sir topham hatt gave some free time or somthing like that i dont know
I’d much rather watch all of BWBA than any of these
13:22 Uh- no, that’s not an opinion. That’s a *fact.*
Where’s S12 Push Me, Pull You
