My take:
On the one hand, this is a perfectly divided screentime, with half of it being as DiZ and half of it being as Ansem the Wise. The strong characterization and voicework by the great Cristopher Lee himself also carries DiZ / Ansem the Wise through. But on the other hand, this character was pushed in the marketing for the game to the point where more screentime was expected, and as it stands, his time as DiZ at the very start of the game and his time as Ansem the Wise at the very end of the game have absolutely no transition. His character does a complete 180, and we don't get to see it happen - we can read about it in his reports, and we can hear him talk about it, but we don't actually witness it for ourselves, which, much like Riku in the original KH, sadly diminishes the otherwise solid character arc. But still.....it's Christopher fucking Lee, man!
The Mark To be fair his transition was hinted at in the train scene as he went out of his way to give Roxas some contentment, but I agree his character needed a bit more time for that Arc. Perhaps have a scene with him overlooking Sora's actions and realizing things have gone off course. Then later have another scene where he feels guilt over what happened to Roxas and encounters Namine with the opportunity to finish her but in the end can't do it after she shows him kindness.
@@antman1001000 I think they added like 1 or 2 extra scenes at the end of the game in the final mix version of him watching Sora.

Christopher Lee and Leonard Nimoy we'll miss you both.
also Wayne Allwine and ALAN YOUNG
And this is why you don't take a decade or more to a video game, PEOPLE DIE! You might want to hurry things up when your two best VA's are really old so that you can wrap things up in their lifetime.

2 LEGENDS!!! Wish Western KH fans appreciated the presence in the games. Wish I would’ve known it when I was much younger
Who was Nimoy in the game?

Corey Burton already replaced him. Anytime they need someone to voice one of Christopher Lee's characters they use Corey Burton.
I had no idea he past away not that long ago
I thought he was still alive till now
@@Lover-of-Creative-Priorities well now it has been 7 years since he past away.
I remember when I thought DiZ was going to be the main villain of KH2
3:24 Seems so trivial at first, you think it's some B-list "antihero" being overjoyed to find out he's working with Ansem himself, but it's pretty freaking tragic in full context.
When I first saw that scene, I already knew DiZ was the real Ansem, so I thought he was laughing because he saw through Riku and thought "this kid doesn't know anything he's saying." With the context now, though, it's a lot sadder.

How did you know he was Ansem the Wise?
@@SteveCrafts2kmost likely saw spoilers before hand
And common sense I guess
God this series is so good. The fact DiZ was doing the same thing Ansem Seeker of Darkness was, assuming what hearts, or in this case, nobodies feel with such conviction, only to be dead wrong is masterful storytelling. He even looks like Ansem when he thinks this way.

@@youngfox2186 Mickey: No, it's just a coincidence 🤔
I mean, other than the name, he really had no evidence that could connect him to the real xehanort so there probobly wasn't anything he could do until it was too late.
@@GuyWolfGaming Its just terra with different colored hair and clothes I would think that would be enough evidence to connect him to Master Xehanort
Well, Nomura wasn't the one writing the story at first. There were a number of people handling it. It wasn't until DDD that Nomura really sank his claws into the narrative.

Okay but who tf asked
I’ve been looking forward to this
I think what irritates me the most are the plot holes surrounding Mickey Mouse. The guy literally participated in the fight against Xehanort. He then pretends as though the Wayfinder Trio don’t exist when he meets AtW, and then when he hears the name “Xehanort” he doesn’t suspect anything! Neither the fact that Xehanort looks like friggin Terra.
Granted there was a 10 year gap between BBS and the meeting with Ansem the Wise, but it shows how Mickey really did forget about them until Yen Sid reminded him “Oh yeah, these three existed and they’re lost somewhere.” And like, jeez Mickey, you’re a GREAT friend to Aqua.
Mickey never meet terra to begin with

This guy is so cool, I just had to see more. The voice of the late great Chistopher Lee only makes it better.

15:50 Ansem: "I'm bullshitting this one as I go, Mickey. Here we gooo!"
I really hated how Diz treated Roxas and Namine.
I really hated DiZ for that, too. He was such a taunting little prick to Roxas right before he gave himself up to Sora and before that, he asked Riku to get rid of Naminé because she served her purpose restoring Sora's memories and (in his own words) said "it's high time she disappeared." But Riku, from seeing how revenge driven and selfish the old fart was, was already angry and bitter with his actions and abandoned DiZ after Sora woke up.
I know he's doing this Roxas and Naminé because they're Nobodies and the Nobodies of his apprentices are the reason he was thrown into the Realm of Darkness, but it gave him no right to direct his anger and frustration onto two young nonexistent individuals who had nothing to do with his predicament. He only used them because they were going to be key to his revenge plot against Xemnas, and then threw them both away when they were no longer useful to him. He calls Naminé a witch, Roxas a tool at best, and Xion is referred to as an "it," which just really pissed me off to make me want to whack the old geezer in his fucking stupid mummified wrapped face. I just did not give a fuck about him and his stupid revenge scheme. Did not care for it. And when his encoder blows up and sends him back to the Realm of Darkness, I *SUPER* did not care! I know he apologized to Roxas for how he treated him, that's nice and all, but it doesn't exactly make him his own person or make up for putting him through a data-simulated town with friends that weren't even real! Not to mention all the mental abuse he sent his way in his final moments in the mansion.
However, I still found how he saw much pain and suffering he brought to everyone in his selfish drive for revenge heartwarming during Blank Points. It was nice to see him start to see the consequences for his actions, and it continued into Kingdom Hearts III when he reached out to Aqua after Ansem SoD blasts her into the Dark Margin's ocean.
Do I still hate Ansem the Wise after all this? No. I still love the journey he went through and I could understand how revenge can blind a person. Do I still despise him for what he did? Yes, but only in the games where he was despicable (Days, II). Everything onward, he's cool and I still miss hearing Christopher Lee lend his voice to the character.
I dislike him too! What a racist jerk.

No it wasn't. Sir Christopher Lee lived way after his role in KH2.
@@narutoking16 his final voice role. And not that long after.
@@zigslotheon No his final voice role was in the live action Alice in Wonderland as the Jabberwocky. That was in 2010 I believe. He died almost 10 years after KH2 released.
@@zigslotheon I hope my comment didn't come across as condescending. I promise it wasn't my intention.
Reminder that he calls Riku Rico right before he dies
I'm so glad they didn't give him corny dialogue like all the other characters in the game
It's either that, or they did give him corny dialogue but Christopher Lee's voice is just THAT badass that he can say it and it doesn't register as corny. XD

3:25 This scene makes no sense after 358/2 Days. Diz/Ansem already knows it’s Riku in a different form. There’s no point in him playing along other than for audiences’ suspense.
It was pretty much for the audience, but perhaps it was in regards to what Riku's motivations were. It was mentioned that Riku fell victim to forgetting things about Sora and like Kairi only held onto small fragments. I think when Diz asked for Riku to identify himself, Diz was really asking if Riku remembered who he was and why he was doing the things he's been doing.
its because they forgot about it when making days. they made this scene in the original 2005 version
Diz was curious as to what identity Riku wishes to go by now that he has given in (or almost completely) into the darkness. He laughed since Riku no longer wishes to be remembered by who he was before he fought Roxas, but Riku's personality hasn't changed regardless.
But sure, you can argue that it was also meant to be a twist for the audience that "Ansem" was still alive, while ironically the real Ansem was Diz all along.
This is why release order sucks
🥺

Data worlds just like ux and recoded never noticed
Dooku!
I love his voice and charater tho his voice feels difrent in other games for some reason
Um, his voice is different because it IS different. In KH2, he's voiced by the late, great Christopher Lee himself, who also voiced him in the DS version of 358/2 Days. In every other game, it's Corey Burton doing an increasingly weaker imitation of Lee.
@@GihirahimOfTheShadow I only got into the séries recently só i didnt really knew, Thats a shamr cuz after inbestigating i discovered he also died, its a shame but oh well
@@GihirahimOfTheShadow Ironic, given that apparently during recording for the CGI Clone Wars series, Christopher Lee overheard Corey Burton doing Dooku lines and even asked the producers why they needed him for the movie lol. Still, I agree, though Corey Burton comes the closest of the Christopher Lee impressionists (especially in Batman: Arkham City), there's just something about his (Lee's) voice that can't be matched. The gravitas, the weight, the range of ham...that will surely be missed.

I may get hate for this but to me Diz or Ansem the Wise is pretty much the Danzo of this series
Seriously like Danzo most of Diz's actions include screwing around with your favorite character,he's pretty much a racist to Nobodies, has brought so much Pain and Misery to Roxas but I will admit the only nicest thing he did was show Roxas the train. If you replay Kingdom Hearts 2 The Nobodies are the real victims seriously everyone tells them you don't have hearts or you're not ment to exist,I'm gonna steal a joke I just read but for a Franchise featuring Disney characters a lot of them can be ASSHOLES
