I'm actually the opposite from what you're looking for in a class, I want a martial to have tons of abilities and class features. Imagine a world where you could use Kung Fu to somersault kick into a spinning backfist into a hook into a spinning roundhouse, and they all do different things. That sounds cool to me.
Or a fighter with a sword, who can choose between doing more damage with a vertical swing or potentially hitting 2 enemies with a horizontal swing.
I want more things to do. Casters get spells and also class features. Martials swing sword.

      @jk2782 2 года назад +1

@@Wav03 Depends on what you want to do. You could still have generic effects like the target needs to pass X roll or be knocked prone, then leave the flavour of how it happens to the player. Maybe they sweep the leg to trip, but it could also be an uppercut or just a straight up slug in the face that knocks someone off their feet. That kind of stuff.
Funnily enough, 3.5 figured out how to do this by way of something called maneuvers in the book of nine swords, basically a few new martial classes because martial classes were very static and didn't do anything except stand still and attack all round every round. I can definitely recommend looking into those things there, basically how I described before. That would be a great resource for making your own homebrew maneuvers. I wouldn't make them as powerful as those, because they scale for 3.5, but maybe use them for inspiration.

For my favorite homebrew classes, I think anything by Ross Leiser makes it onto my list. The one he is most known for as of right now though is his Accursed, sitting as a Gold Best Seller on the DMSGuild. This half-caster's whole unique idea is that you've been affected with a curse and over time learned to repress and control its powers, using it to your benefit. All subclasses for it feel unique and different, with Curses like Misfortune, Vampirism, Petrification, Lycanthropy, Possession, and so much more. DEFINITELY recommend you give that one a look.
Other great ones from him are his newly released Shaman: which focuses on Ritual Casting, Sculptor: where you're able to use the mana within you to summon your weapon, Elementalist: you're magic comes from the magic of the Elemental Planes, with your subclass being one of said elements, and Odic: a caster class that sacrifices hit points in order to cast their spells.

Artificer Battlesmith 3/Blood Hunter Profane Soul 17, in theory, seems like an super strong combination as it makes Blood Hunter Profane Soul *extremely* SAD. Dipping into Wizard allows you to do some neat spell recovery as it'll feel like a SAD Wizard/Warlock combination. It basically makes INT classes more multiclass-friendly.
I have a theory-crafted character called Casnon. He is Battlesmith 4/Profane Soul 13/Divination 3. Have not played him yet. I used to go Profane Soul 17, but I feel that the levels of 14 - 17 are kind of meh, and since I can't go 18; I just went into Wizard for the remaining levels.
If people are claiming it's OP, as a SINGLE class I feel like they are either overvaluing it's advantage on all knowledge checks to demons, feys, and undead; they are overvaluing the blood curses which are limited; or they overvalue the 13th ability to essentially soft-counterspell teleportation, plane-shifting, or dashing.
If claiming its OP as a MULTICLASS, I haven't tried it. It looks like it can be nuts due to SADness, but since Hexblade + Any of the 3 CHA classes can achieve very similar things, I don't think it'd be OP for this reason either. Basically, I think even my build is going to, at most, be as strong as the Hexblade multiclass brigade.
Examples (these are merely theories but these are CONFIDENT theories and this is assuming Battlesmith and Profane Soul are the subclasses)
BH/Wiz can create a Sorlock-like character (though not as SAD) since it acts like a Warlock/Wiz multiclass with the spell slot recovery shenanigans with a bit more martial built-in.
BH/Art is like Hexadin. SAD but can't do the big burst NOVA Hexadin does, but the near infinite hemocraft die enchantment does do better damage over time so better average damage.
BH/Art/Wiz is like a SAD Warlock/Sorcerer/Paladin but INT based.

I've been playing the latest version of the Bloodhunter Profane Soul for about a year now. And I'm really enjoying it. I'm doing a bit of a Warlock dip as well, as Profane Soul allows for Intelligence based Warlock multiclass. As a 3rd of all hunter levels equals 1 warlock level for spellcasting purposes. Makes for some interesting synergy as you level. So now at level 8 being able to cast; Darkness while having Devil's Sight invocation or a Mirror Image and a Hex, with a follow-up of melee crimson rited multiattacks. I feel my build is really coming alive! That 11th level Diabolic Channel from pre-revision would have been icing on the cake though.

The flavor is definitely there, but the class is slightly overpowered because it can use its ranged bending attack (cantrip) as a bonus action which basically allows the extra attack feature at lv 1. This is partially offset by the limited ki points that the classes get which limits the bending techniques, but overall the class is fairly powerful. The only problem i see with the tashas unarmed fighting style that most dont see at first if you are wanting to play a pugilist type of character is that you NEED one of 2 magic items to make your unarmed attacks magical, one being the eldritch claw tattoo and the other is a item from the rising of tiamat that also conviently has claw in the name.
why people had a problem with the unarmed fighting style and saying "you cant do that because thats what monks do".

How about a homebrew sub class list. I got 2 ideas. Compare eldritch knight and blade singer... eldritch knight is fighter over mage, and Blade singer is mage over fighter. Where both classes can do melee/magic but the treat them differently and blade singer has more spells. Do the same with fighter/artificer. Only thing I got is fighter over artificer ... uses intelligence bonus for attack and ac, gets artifact weapon mastery fighting style giving bonus to hit and damage. And has force shield which upgrades to ray shield. Gives hp shield and attacks with an artifact weapon gets advantage for u and all your allies in range. Um more feats, and attune more than normal but less than artificer. For opposite more attune well get normal number but artifact weapons are free attune.

I'm currently playing a shadow monk bloodhunter lycan and I love it. I do think the claw attacks need a boost or a way to do something like flurry of blows but a wild maul kind of flavor. That may make lycan op but so far it hasn't made me too good. My dm gave me claw weapons that are homebrew that are fineness and considered unarmed that do the next die up from your current die used for unarmed strikes. The whole campaign is homebrew and we have changed a few mechanics of classes so everything works better like instead of bonus action, shadow step takes movement speed. We did that so I can get flurry of blows off even with the shadow step.

Playing a Profane Soul Blood Hunter right now and it definitely has some strong abilities. The new Brand of Castigation ability has a lot of power packed behind it if you can reliably keep to the frontline. Thing is it's good in the places it's good, for lack of a better word. It's really good against enemies with blood and that stipulation comes up a lot more than you'd expect. It has higher than average DPS but it's about on-par with a Barbarian and marginally worse than a Paladin. It obviously depends on your subclass but a lot of the subclass have very hit-or-miss abilities. (The Profane Soul is actually one of the worse ones imo.)
In my opinion Ghostslayer > Lycan > Profane Soul > Mutant (I'm sorry but the Mutant subclass is just a headache to wrap your head around, and it has too many "Pathfinder-esque" negatives for not enough positives.) Ghostslayer does a ton of damage between Rite of the Dawn, Curse Specialist, and Brand of Sundering. Order of the Lycan does good damage but it's meant as the "tank" subclass for the Blood Hunter, and the label of "DEXbarian" is quite apt for the subclass as a whole. As for Profane Soul spellcasting is never _not_ useful but the class scales at the same speed as the Eldritch Knight, which combined with the lacking Warlock spell slots means you'd honestly be better off playing a Warlock / Blood Hunter multiclass. Profane Soul definitely makes up for it at high levels though between Brand of the Sapping Scar and Blood Curse of the Souleater.

What do you think of the idea of Wizards taking inspiration from some of these classes and adapting them into subclasses? Pugilist could make an excellent basis for Fighter or Barbarian (I lean to the former). Merchant can work as either a Rogue or a Bard. But I think Bard might be a better fit since it’s a charisma based class and I’ve always liked the idea of a Bard who’s a merchant. Wonder what the subclass would be called though. College of Coin, maybe?

My DM called the 2020 Lycan version of the Blood Hunter OP, and on one hand I don't blame him, but on the other hand he never really offered a way to counter it's abilities. Between being able to have the time to Crimson Rite both my claws, rarely facing against enemies with silver or magic weapons/attacks, and never dispelling my Brand of Castigation on certain enemies (to my knowledge), yeah my Hunter was a bit OP given the circumstances. Also it helped that the party Wizard often cast Haste on my Hunter.

someone made a new Avatar-inspired class? cool
edit: some of the decisions don't make sense to me. why does Water use Charisma? Fire uses it because it comes from your aggressive nature, or your life force, but why water? If anything, Earth should be Wis/Cha because you need a firm heart to Earthbend.
the naming of the subclass is inconsistent.
Firebending is supposed to Northern Shaolin, from the Shaolin temple; not Eastern Shaolin
Airbending is indeed the Eight Palms, or rather Eight Trigrams Palm (Baguazhang)
but Waterbending is supposed to be Taichi
and Earthebending is Hung Gar, with Toph who uses a unique variant based on Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis, not Western Praying Mantis
If they were going for in-universe inspiration, use Moon (Water), Badger (Earth), Dragon (Fire), Bison (Air). Don't half and half it.
