  • You had to be there. The early days of the Bay Area thrash scene, the bands that meant the most and learning guitar from Metallica’s Kirk Hammett. We discuss thoughts on religion and spirituality, and revisit each Exodus album. Getting the call that Slayer is playing again, and never wanting to take Jeff’s spot. The new top 4 and his favorite guitars and memorabilia.

I’ve seen people blast Gary because he says Prince is the greatest musician, it’s like some supposedly unwritten rule that if you are a thrash metal band you can’t listen to anything but that.. I’ve got a playlist of 20 hours of all pop/rock songs for when I’m doing Uber and Lyft (driving)

Does anyone else think that's a little two-faced from Gary? Complain about people hating on Taylor but then blindly proceeds to hate on Beyonce? And there are plenty of songs in Beyonce's discography where there are very few people with writing credits. For instance Be Alive. That was solely written by Beyonce and Dixon (no one else!) or Dangerously in Love 2, that was just written by Beyonce and McCalla (no one else) etc etc. I think Gary is being a little disingenuous with his criticisms of Beyonce. the VOICE is an instrument which requires training and maintenance, i would expect someone in the music industry to be aware of this. anyone who really knows music, KNOWS beyoncé is a top tier VOCALIST.
the woman has been studying italian arias, operas and arabic scales since she was 4! she has been TAUGHT resonance, phrasing, clarity, agility, placement, breath control, diction, stamina, AND how to maintain her instrument for 40 years! mathew had her running in heels WHILE singing for years!
go ahead and watch her perform dangerously in love last year in atlanta and marvel at how she hits the #G5 with ease. watch her sing 1+1, i care, before i let go, love on top, flaws and all, resentment, etc. LISTEN to her stacked harmonies on god made you beautiful, me myself and i, pray you catch me, american requiem, etc. pay ATTENTION to the background vocals in flawless, partition, spirit, bigger, etc. that lady is an INSTRUMENT. also not to mention, she can play the piano, flute, horns and drums.

Then goes to say Beyonce is overrated and praises Adele’s singing even though Adele is no where near the vocalist Beyonce is, Adele live is famously inconsistent and has had to restarts performances because she goes flat or off key.
And it’s interesting he is lauded as a guitarist while failing to recognize the voice is an instrument and Beyoncé is a top tier instrumentalist with her voice.
He doesn’t even bring up the fact that as a producer, singer, dancer and performer Beyonce blows Taylor out of the water. And that Beyonce has been releasing genre bending and experimental music for the past 15 years that is light years ahead in terms of melody, production and importance.

Taylor can't sing though. She can write, but she can't sing. Adele has a good voice, but a poor technique...that's why she injures her voice and has had vocal surgeries. There are many voice coaches and music critics that rate Beyonce's vocal above Adele's (e.g. Rolling Stone Mag). Beyonce has a solid vocal technique and is vocally more versatile than Adele. Adele can only sing ballads (gets a bit boring after a while). Beyonce can sing most things/genres
