That's proper trail etiquette and yield rules but I'm usually doing what Tick did there and let them speed by. If I'm looking far enough ahead that is and not staring at the front tire I'm dripping sweat all over from the climb.
I think the uphill rider, like a semi truck has momentum going up that would polite not to impede, but I think the actual terrain makes it very situational (possibly considered up but easy flat area?). Probably safer to abide by the etiquette unless uphill rider forfeits the right of way ? Also the situational awareness of said riders is going vary immensely, hence frozen deer in the headlights middle of the trail vs moving over and telling others to go through.

You've sold me on the mt200 brakes. About the drinking eBay dropper post, I'm hopeing it's it's one of those under seat leaver action things. Been wondering if they are any good.
This was dope THAT OPENING 😂but what was up with the tires definitely was digging the camera view until it quit . When I was upgrading my breaks went with the Zoom cause of the price. Great video and looking forward to the next one 🤙🏾
Definitely going Shimano over ZTZ for the extra 40$ even on a budget build when it comes to brakes. I just find brakes are one of those things that are super tough to go full budget on. Another great video, looking forward to the next one!
Great video guys we were in Hocking Hills this past weekend extreme zip lining….the trails were amazing but no bikes allowed only hikes….would have been awesome to hit em with the bikes though….what a beautiful area….🤘🤘
WHAT!! ZIP LINING?? Sounds cool as hell! Man and what a bummer, NO BIKES!! HA HA Fellas cool you had a little trip and we will see ya FRIDAY!!! MUCH LOVE FELLAS:)
You ever try tube liners? I am old school as well so I run tubes. I have mr tuffy liners since I’m in NorCal and have a lot of glass and thorns everywhere. Haven’t had a flat since I installed em. Knock on wood. Keep up the good work bud. Lovin it
The funny part is "proper" MTB etiquette is to let the person pedaling up the hill by so the person coming down the mountain is supposed to get off to the side and let them continue to climb lol its weird but everyone and their mom has always told me this
You guys got the same dropper post I bought a couple of weeks ago. Curious to see you test it, hope you don't spoil my excitement for it before mine arrives lol

nice build. i need to know from your experience, is the mt200 brakeset better then the quad piston meroca m4 for trails? really need to make a decision. hope you can help.
Man thats a difficult question.....Lets see price not a factor?? They are better than the Merocas, $149....Not so much LOL AFFILIATE LINKS ZTZ/MEROCA 4 PISTON-amzn.to/3G53eeM SHIMANO MT200-EBAY LINK (REVERSED HOSES) ebay.us/pUAfwg Remember both of these are backwards-left rear, right front
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS appreciate the input, i think i'm going for the meroca m4 since i'm on a budget anyways, i still need to change my fork as well. your videos helps a lot. thanks!
Sometimes a budget build goes a little over budget when one of your part choices doesn't live up to your expectations. Those tires need to go budget or no budget! Are those getting pinch flats or what was going on? I have owned Shimano SLX and Deore single piston disc brakes, and the MT200 matched them in performance, when using similar pad compounds. The higher end brakes were fancier, and maybe a few grams lighter... Actual performance difference was insignificant. Price was very different though!
First a crash, last week, then two flats in one ride this week. Perhaps you don't see the incinerated goat connection, but I do. The Greeks and Marvel Comics go on and on about Thor's hammer but rarely mention his combination wrenches. I had WTB Ranger tires that wept like an unhappy 5 year old when I went tubeless, but never a problem with flats. I think that a quick trip to Harbor Freight will solve your mishap problem. I rode over 20 miles on rocky trails near Bend Oregon this weekend without one mishap, fortune I attribute to purchasing a 44mm BB wrench.
I have Shimano M365 brakes on two of my bikes that I am very happy with. They are basically the same as the 200's. I was able to purchase the M365 kit for $65 in March of 2020. With inflation, the thought process will be, "Do I buy Shimano, or the cheaper brakes so that I can afford bacon with my eggs this morning?"
Man I will have you know! Went to Harbor freight with your money and got me a 7mm-17 or 18mm open end polished wrench set!! THANK YOU:) incinerated goat??
Love the Ardor build. Like to see guys building bikes to ride not just gold plated conversation pieces. For the price are those mt200 better than the meroca 4 piston? My meroca will put you over handle bars if you 3 finger them. Doesn't seem to matter how fast your going. On my XR Pro which thanks to you guys giving first look video I was sold the bike looks awesome. I didn't have to swap levers though came the american way. Left is front, Right is rear the way it should be. It's "squishyness" probably stems from brakes not bleed correctly. Just like an automobile. With air in line instead of fluid creates gaps. Soft pedal. Ends up being one side of pad will were more than other. Have you encountered that on any hydro brakes on bikes?
Man that is an awesome comment, thank you so much. We pride ourselves on sending it on a budget and talking about it later!! the price being $120 they are better, but for $149 like we found....not at all worth it. Now regarding the brakes, not yet with pad wear but have encountered squishiness. The ZTZ brakes we bled one now has a weak point wear it is major squish...
Really might just buy some MT-200's, Been enjoying the Zooms but after about a few runs they'll require pumping to get proper breaking, As if they don't bleed all the way..
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I agree, I move over for others unless they see me first and move over, which happens alot! I was talking about someone walking in the middle of the trail, stared right at me and refused to move. I had some good speed going and it was a messed up situation.
When it comes to brakes I always tend to stick with known name brands such as Shimano, Sram, Tektro, Hayes, and TRP. That's one area I definitely don't want to cheap out on even on a budget build.
I don't understand the inability to read a map, but I also make maps for a living. What psi did you start with? Odd to blow both tires. Trail looks fun though! And dropper posts are a must, especially for us vertically challenged riders...even my gravel bike has a 50mm dropper.
WHAT!!! NO YOU DONT!!! I started with 32psi front and rear and when you run WTB riddlers it is not ODD AT ALL!! LOL Damn I was upset:) Dropper is gonna be a for sure! But may gotta listen to WOLFMAN and get some tires:( NOT AS FUN...
Bummer on the tire issues. Crazy how that back tire just came off the rim. Maybe that dropper post you got will work with the Ardor (not sure what the seat post diameter is on that bike). Just ordered a Schwinn Aluminum Comp as a spare bike. Will replace the handle bar and stem right away. I may make it a 1X. Also, I have a Bucklos 29er tapered fork I am not using. Do you think that would go okay on a 27.5 Aluminum Comp?
No kidding man, it may be time to spend the remaining $$ on TIRES:( I really wanted a dropper:) Now regarding your comp and fork, I would not think so. The cockpit is very small and I think with a slacker front it would be to hard to climb with. Thanks Lebron Photo(not.com)
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS you’re probably right on the fork issue. Since I plan on keeping the 27.5 wheels, it will primarily depend on the length of the fork. I’ll have to measure it before attempting.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS That one is on the GT. That happens to be the bike my wife uses now. I may just leave the factory coil fork on it for a while and see how my son takes care of it. He's not very mechanical. Maybe a heavy coil fork is good for him. Then again, he may not use the bike much, in which case I may pick up a better 27.5 air fork (maybe a Bucklos) and use the bike when guests come by and want to ride.
That was a good mail day! Great review, guys, always love watching the ride cams 😁 I need to get me out to Arkansas next year (we're in Tennessee, but only 3 miles from the Virginia line), haven't seen our oldest daughter in 2 years now (she's in FT Smith--I used to make a big 2,400 mile circle once a year on the motorcycle to visit but didn't last year and sold my last motorcycle in June), been a long time since I've pedal'd trail out there (which was back in my trucking days, so it's been about 20 years since I've mtn biked in your beautiful state...too long!). Have an awesome week, guys 😊✌
Love the drunken E-Bay sound effects, even if it sounded like a soda being poured (a mixer?). Those brakes seem awesome for the price. Project Ron Burgundy is shaping up to be bad ass! Loved seeing someone, beside myself, carrying a spare tube and changing it on the fly. So old school. You're wrong about trusting the Brits. You can trust them to get it wrong. They talk American funny & even drive on the wrong side of the road.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I'm a bit of an Anglophile. They took my mom in, from Austria, in 1938 & they do great comedy plus they gave us Alfred Hitchcock & Dr Who.
What rotor size are you running ? I got the same crankbrother tool i love it for having a spoke wrench and being ratger light. Those tires are awful ! I agree on mt200 vs ztz ! I'd go shimano with big rotor.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Maps are easy , matter of fact , they are made to be interpreted , you just have to know the symbols and scale , the rest is intuitive .
I've ridden those trails, but unfortunately i don't remeber them. I went OTB on gravity falls, and got knocked out. It wiped my memory for the entire day. Ended up in the hospital with a brain bleed.
Wirebead....It is nuts how much they suck!! May have to spend the $110 on tires:( Not as cool LOL Does the dropper have different stop points on it?? Like fixed positions or does it have smooth travel throughout?
I’m shocked that you have such bad luck with your WTB Riddlers. Where are the punctures at? I’ve had great luck with the same wheelset so far. Also, Tic said he liked the MT200s over ZTZ brakes - do you mean over the Meroca 4 pistons?
Man they are terrible!!! The punctures are right in the main meaty part of the tread?? CRAZY! Yes I meant the Merocas, for $40 more especially btu they are $80 more right now!! Not that much I dont LOL
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS so forget about cost and brand name preference- did the 2piston calipers you just tested have more stopping power and more feel than the 4 piston ones you tested a couple weeks ago?
4 Pistons felt like there was less lever pull area, they seemed to grab immediately, the Shimano's are very smooth throughout and have a great lever feel and different levels (depending on your pull) of bite.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS that's exactly what I was wondering. I think about mixing and matching lever/master cylinders to get more feel because the size of the piston directly effects how quick the pads apply and how much effort it takes. I guess it's all just intellectual exercises cause I probably don't ride hard enough to get a real result.
Those are some sweet shades in the intro. Be careful with that knife 🤣 Noticed that the print on the wolftick tshirt I got glows in the dark, hopefully it's supposed to do that and my girlfriend didn't wash laundry with something radioactive☢ The mt200s are definitely the way to go when you're trying to get some good brakes without breaking the bank. Should do a budget brake comparison 🤔
Man are they ever!! LOL Those and the knife were furnished by one hell of a guy on the channel😎Now as for the shirts....hmmmmm.....sounds fishy!! You may wan to keep an eye on that girlfriend!! HA HA Now the brakes are pretty nice, I love the feel of the levers and contact they make. Budget Brake video is a good idea:)!!
Man so much of this to get into ... 1) Pulling over (provided the trail is not directional by day... only one trail here that is not) ... I pull over if going down hill to let that person keep momentum going up hill, or will pull over if i see a large train of people ... if directional day locked, i say something (if they are not going correct direction as they may not know), and if they are behind me, i will let them pass (if going correct direction). If wife is me, i let them pass no matter the direction.... (she gets nervous so its best to let her regroup and not hurt herself). she don't really have trail bike but still sometimes she wants to go, and what she does have will make it...(bike build is planned and effect.. she will have a full susp before i will). 2) Brakes themselves, M200/1 are great brakes (have them on my KHS).. do get noisy when wet (metal pad change out may stop that from what i am reading ... in fact i read to get rid of the resin pads immediately for some reason)... they do loose a little stopping power when wet/muddy (but so do 4x4's when mudding)... compared to the Avids on my Motobecane the M200's are best. The Avids, I had to bleed, change pads (as that was needed cant fault them for that) but since then they are doing what is a known issue of the brakes literally closing down on the calipers. No air in the lines they just do that ... in fact the fix is to open brake lever port and spread the caliper and tighten back down port.... essentially adding air in the line and making them squishy ...ugh 3) Patron count is now up to 8 and growing ... You can find Wolf and Tick if you search for them ('WolfTick Video') ... cant post link but can give directions for the nation! They have few jems up and are active on it. These guys work for their fans and supporters and after all it does support them.
Man that is awful nice for you to say at the end there man:) Thank you for rallying the troops:) Now I feel it is the nicest thing to do when people are shredding. I feel they most likely worked to get to that point and who am I to stop them? Its all good and I do not mind at all...And of course to me trail conditions and site are a big part of it too. Thank you for the lesson and once again the support X. Tick Out!!!
Man I’ve been binge watching your channel lately as I’m trying to get my first MTB. For 300 would you recommend getting a Schwinn Boundary or Mangoose Ardor? I might just do some very light trial at this point but want to reserve the possibility for future. TIA

Tick, The reason that you encounter riders who don't move over for you when you are riding downhill is because you are supposed to be yielding for them. IMBA rules of the trail #4 states that downhill riders should yield for uphill riders. It makes sense. If you are traveling downhill and have to stop it is much easier for you to regain speed because you have gravity on your side, wheras the uphill rider has to start from a stop while headed uphill. IMBA Rules of the trail (you should really know these dude)#4: Yield to Others. Do your utmost to let your fellow trail users know you're coming -- a friendly greeting or bell ring are good methods. Try to anticipate other trail users as you ride around corners. Bicyclists should yield to all other trail users, unless the trail is clearly signed for bike-only travel. Bicyclists traveling downhill should yield to ones headed uphill, unless the trail is clearly signed for one-way or downhill-only traffic. Strive to make each pass a safe and courteous one.
Completely understand, there are rues for a reason. Arkansas it is up for debate, riders need to be aware at all times and when it comes to riding uphill(trail conditions matter) I like to show etiquette and let someone shred down a trail as much as possible. It does not bother me at all to restart what they just went through to be able to hit a good downhill!! LOL But I feel ya

@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I think our badgers are slightly different to yours, they can be pretty big but they tend to just run off, I'm sure they'd bite if they were given the chance but I've come across a vicious one yet. Yeah, some of us aren't bad on the other side of the pond 😂😂😂😂
I don't want to hear you say it's winter while you sit there in a T-shirt ever again, it's snowed twice here already lol. (I'm just jealous obviously)😆
First of all Rider etiquette is the climber has the right of way cuz it's harder to stop and start climbing whereas going downhill you can stop and then just hop right back on and continue going downhill and I've heard that from listening to allot of mtb podcasts. Second of all it's so annoying when the wolfman constantly interrupts you like what are you the f****** grammar police
yup. typically you yield to the climbers on a bidirectional trail. Also I misread "wolfman" as "woman" and was looking forward to him being interrupted by some random grammar nazi woman on the trail.
Well call me crazy but, I feel I would rather give someone the thrill of going downhill and me stepping aside everyday. They most likely put in the work already:)

@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS keep it inside a bag. I don't carry tubes as I use tubeless, and have plug kit. Some straps come with a bag. So they are really just small frame bags, but with straps over it, instead of straps to the frame only, but if you want to carry even more then bigger frame bags can be used. But I just use a backpack, I aways have all I need with me.
Usually the downhill rider moves over to allow the uphill rider to continue. It is easier for the downhill rider to regain momentum (gravity).
That's proper trail etiquette and yield rules but I'm usually doing what Tick did there and let them speed by. If I'm looking far enough ahead that is and not staring at the front tire I'm dripping sweat all over from the climb.

Yep. We have since fixed that with some Maxxis tires. Thanks man👍
You've sold me on the mt200 brakes.
About the drinking eBay dropper post, I'm hopeing it's it's one of those under seat leaver action things. Been wondering if they are any good.
It just might be!! HA HA If we sold you very cool, they are nice and of you use an affiliate link why then that would be flat out AWESOME!!!
This was dope THAT OPENING 😂but what was up with the tires definitely was digging the camera view until it quit . When I was upgrading my breaks went with the Zoom cause of the price. Great video and looking forward to the next one 🤙🏾
HA HA Glad you enjoyed!! What a mess we are, now not too sure of the tires, it drives me nutts though! That may be the next upgrade!! HA HA
Definitely going Shimano over ZTZ for the extra 40$ even on a budget build when it comes to brakes. I just find brakes are one of those things that are super tough to go full budget on.
Another great video, looking forward to the next one!

Lovin it
Important to sand the edges so they don’t cut your tubes. Learned this the hard way.
Man thats a great idea, I did think of those budget style ones at walmart. Maybe soon, also thank you for the comment and will continue to do so!!
The funny part is "proper" MTB etiquette is to let the person pedaling up the hill by so the person coming down the mountain is supposed to get off to the side and let them continue to climb lol its weird but everyone and their mom has always told me this
Yeah Yeah Yeah!! Its not a big deal to step aside and let someone SHRED!! That is how it should be;)

Not a problem man, we appreciate you being here:)
Feel ya man, but you have to live with it:) We cannot go over budget for a build. Good to know the mt200s can hang though
One finger....nice and smooth... in and out..... LMAO!
Did I say that??😁
First a crash, last week, then two flats in one ride this week.
Definetley go cheaper and eat some eggs!
Same prob with my cheap tektros.
Man look into it, hopefully they are not an arm and a leg:(
I think a cool sweatshirt for winter would be every single person that’s bought you a cup of coffee, super small names but would be cool
Not a bad idea our little designer you!! LOL

It happened to me, the guy walking didnt freeze up, just refused to move out of the way!
Man people are saying proper trail etiquette but...I find it nice and proper to get out of the way and let them enjoy the DH
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I agree, I move over for others unless they see me first and move over, which happens alot! I was talking about someone walking in the middle of the trail, stared right at me and refused to move. I had some good speed going and it was a messed up situation.
Glad we are n the same page:)
When it comes to brakes I always tend to stick with known name brands such as Shimano, Sram, Tektro, Hayes, and TRP. That's one area I definitely don't want to cheap out on even on a budget build.
Understand man, its kinda important to STOP! LOL
So when you have a certain budget that you cannot exceed, where do you make up for the money spent?
Gotcha, what about a Suntour Epicon?
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS That one is on the GT. That happens to be the bike my wife uses now. I may just leave the factory coil fork on it for a while and see how my son takes care of it. He's not very mechanical. Maybe a heavy coil fork is good for him. Then again, he may not use the bike much, in which case I may pick up a better 27.5 air fork (maybe a Bucklos) and use the bike when guests come by and want to ride.

I haven't had a flat since i went tubeless
GOOD FOR YOU!😛
Would you buy them over the 4 piston calipers you tryed a couple weeks ago?
Yes for $120 no for $140
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS so forget about cost and brand name preference- did the 2piston calipers you just tested have more stopping power and more feel than the 4 piston ones you tested a couple weeks ago?
4 Pistons felt like there was less lever pull area, they seemed to grab immediately, the Shimano's are very smooth throughout and have a great lever feel and different levels (depending on your pull) of bite.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS that's exactly what I was wondering. I think about mixing and matching lever/master cylinders to get more feel because the size of the piston directly effects how quick the pads apply and how much effort it takes. I guess it's all just intellectual exercises cause I probably don't ride hard enough to get a real result.

Tick,
The reason that you encounter riders who don't move over for you when you are riding downhill is because you are supposed to be yielding for them.
IMBA rules of the trail #4 states that downhill riders should yield for uphill riders.
It makes sense.
If you are traveling downhill and have to stop it is much easier for you to regain speed because you have gravity on your side, wheras the uphill rider has to start from a stop while headed uphill.
IMBA Rules of the trail (you should really know these dude)#4:
Yield to Others. Do your utmost to let your fellow trail users know you're
coming -- a friendly greeting or bell ring are good methods. Try to
anticipate other trail users as you ride around corners. Bicyclists should
yield to all other trail users, unless the trail is clearly signed for bike-only
travel. Bicyclists traveling downhill should yield to ones headed uphill,
unless the trail is clearly signed for one-way or downhill-only traffic. Strive
to make each pass a safe and courteous one.

The real problem with the Shimano mt-200 brakes is that it's lever are made of steel which is going to rust

you should not store a tube exposed on the bike, it will collect mud, dirt, and gravel and potentially get damaged or cut.
What do you suggest?
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS keep it inside a bag. I don't carry tubes as I use tubeless, and have plug kit. Some straps come with a bag.
