I had the distinct privilege of meeting Jimmy in 1988. He was sitting at the bar at the hotel he was staying in, drinking a beer, alone. My friends and I approached him and he spent over 30 minutes chatting w/ us. I was blown away by how kind and sincere he was. Just a perfect gentleman and even cracked a few jokes w/ us. Say what you will about the man, but he is a rock icon and one helluva nice person. Very humble too, especially considering his status.
WoW just WoW what an extraordinarily Lucky event i would give ANYthing to be able to just sit & Talk with him ive been in Mad Luv with him since i 1st started listening to Led Zeppelin when i was 8 years old & indeed how you have described him is exactly the way i figured he would be just Beautiful! Thank YOU for sharing!
if you were to call roy harper names to jimmy page im quite sure he would be very offended and not want to talk to you. roy did a lot to help jimmy get back to his music and off the heroine. God bless him for that! God bless them both. and all of you as well. long live the real King of Rock and Roll, James Partick Page!!!!
Jimmy is just naturally quiet. He was taking the bullit for Jimmy because at this time people would want to make him talk and try to misconstrue his words later. Jimmy is wise and elusive.
here's my 2 cents. first off those of you who are dissing roy harper, he and Pagey have been close friends since led zeppelin existed. before he saw plant sing he actually asked harper if would be interested. roy isn't being rude. he knows his friend well and is being a friend. our beloved jimmy was going through some VERY rough times and hated interviews. he was sensitive and clearly didn't want to speak. i think roy was covering for him, and to me it appeared a loving act of friendship.
Jimmy is so right about music being better in the 60s, and that because of the technology, music has began to lose it's originality, and doesn't even sound good.
It’s really hard to believe Jimmy didn’t play for 18 months, his guitars always seemed like a part of his body. I think the breakup of Led Zeppelin really hurt him, it was his baby & he loved what they were doing. He was & always will be the greatest guitarist ever, I’m glad he started playing again.
I can remember watching this on the TV when it was first broadcast. Roy and Jimmy, it doesn’t get much better than this for me. Dam fine song too, I have a live version of this on vinyl from In Between Every Line, which is just Roy and his guitar.
Depeche mode on computers in music: "Its not like you can just hit a few buttons and it'll create the song for you." Sorry thats exactly what its like. Dont get me wrong there are still some extremely inspired and talented musicians that use technology and computers to create their sound. But for the most part it is a crutch that does most of the work for you.
There should be laws forbiding people from being HOT as you are Mr Page....Seriously......That's pure injustice!!!!!!! You should be in jail JIMMY!!!!!!!!!!
@ branden1119 i see you are 21 years old well i am 51 and have been a fan long time before you were born. but its is good to see a young fan standing up strong for Led Zep.
Listen people,no guitarist is perfect, but as long as the energy and feel is there,it's music.Playing guitar ain't as easy as it looks, even if you are a famous rockstar. As for the pagerism?Look up any band's songwriting & ur bound to find rip offs.So much ground has been tread on in music it's appauling. But to harness the spirit of past musicians & spin it into something of your own, that takes talent.
white robin, you do realise that Led Zep are the biggest heavy rock band/ band of all time. Jimmy created heavy rock, he made the les paul a global iconic guitar, he wrote the most played song on the airwaves of all time. He set the bench mark for what heavy rock is all about. A true original. If he never played another note again, he would still remain the grand master of rock, heavy guitars, and all thats good about english music. Dont be jelouse all your life kid...
roy harper has done many collaberations with jimmy and with robert, dating back to the 70's (while they were still led zep) and since(among many, many other musicians)... he is a poet and musician of much reknown ... you should look into his work ... it is well worth your time!
Qui Jimmy è veramente bello, maschio e dannatamente sexy🤪🤪 poi anche il modo in cui è vestito coi pantaloni negli stivali...a me fa sempre tanto sangue... Adorabile ❤️
maximum. I made some comments on another utube video that accused page of stealing ideas. I made the same comment. Cavemen with sticks and rocks. Music is culture more than it is anything else. We all steal inspiration all of the the time. Its good and healthy for everyone until the lawyers get involved. Greed, pride, ego, etc etc. Anything but love for the art.
Haha I love the discussion at the end. 9:21 he says "its not like you just press a button and they write the song for you". Because that's exactly how the top 40 music is now.
Have you got any of his albums? You do realise he sang Have a Cigar on Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here? Jimmy Page has been on Harper's albums since 1970. Always in the role of accompanist. He was the icing. Harper is his own cake.
I agree with you 100%. Steve Marriot sang Woman you need LOVE and Jommy ran with it. Steve Marriott said when hearing Whole Lotta Love on the radio while on a drive " Go forth my son" with Love . That is what it is all about . When you do your history lesson you will find how many songs were taken from ones already written. That B the facts
... well... "don't think it is fair to say that jimmy page doesn't have any ideas or creativity." is SUCH an understatement ... it goes WAY beyond "unfair" ... it is incredibly ludicrous for them to have said that ... it is one of those things that i'm sure those kids look back on now with extreme embarrassment (or should do) ... jimmy had more creativity (in the studio and on stage) than the whole lot of them
it makes him think of Bonham, a band is full with close friends, when you start, you are one... you know each other, you know when something's wrong... you live together, I mean you do everything together, and when you become famous, you even go closer to each other... The thing that was making Bonham having fun with, is the thing that killed him... He just drank, as usual, and he didn't knew he had it coming... :(
Wow! This is an amazing interview! The interviewer is a bit of English tabloid, aggressive disrespectful ass but he settles down and stfu as it goes on. Hats off to Roy, this is the first time I've seen the man who Zeppelin sang about years ago. He and Jimmy both look great and say some pretty deep stuff here on the music biz. Thanks for this post!
Televizzle07. I agree, concerning Page. He is the most interesting of all guitarists. And that is saying a lot. I am a session guitarist, and I have so many guitarists that I like. But Page always made songs interesting and different. And as far as all these people talking about Page grabbing a lot of credit from others is bull. Everyone grabbed from others. It started when the first caveman picked up a stick and hit a rock.
i agree in the later 70s the music was all becoming keyboard and synthesiser stuff but zeppelin sticked to normal rock stuff which is one reason i like them so much
Well, a quarter century has proven Jimmy correct; and Depeche Mode was a well named band indeed, since they had the staying power of a breath mint. Good music doesn't go out of fashion, and in fact it has little or nothing to do with fashion at all.
@metsjets315 ha ha, your so funny, his brain must be fried... Im sure that snide remark makes all the difference to his legacy. Page is a genuis, and an original, so heroin or no heroin, how about looking at his finer points... Are you responcible for the greatest heavy rock band of all time? Er nooooooooooooo.
whoa in 1979 Jimmy page looked like he was 40, now in 1984 he looks like he's in his early 30s. I guess kicking his heroin addiction had a lot to do with that.
AhYaOk. It's so effing simple. Name what is good today. I am a session guitarist who listens to everything that comes out. The best thing I can up with is the, White Stripes. We are in an awful state in the rock n roll end of things. Dad is right this time. But I remain positive, some band will come out and blow our minds. Hang in there.
I didn't say everyone sucked or mean it literally, I just said the 80s blew chunks, in general. Pop stuff sounded like the same synthesizer drum machine crap. It's just my opinion. There were great metal & punk bands at the time, a lot of cool alternative college stuff. I loved REM & Peter Gabriel. But yeah, the top 40 junk was mostly ...junk.
Wow, thanks for posting - it's been 25 years since I last saw this. This was a classic BBC fit-up - Jimmy Page was NEVER against young or up-and -coming synthesizer bands, whom he would have praised given the chance. A 'Michael Moore' was done to make them look a pair of bitter old men dissing new bands. The normally charming Mark Allen, is quite condescending throughout this interview.
I had the distinct privilege of meeting Jimmy in 1988. He was sitting at the bar at the hotel he was staying in, drinking a beer, alone. Jimmy is just so beautiful and lovely...
beautiful jimmy with beautiful mind
Jimmy Page's voice is so soft, I like it ! :)

Jimmy Page=Legend

Jimmy Page, always the gentleman. "Hat's Off To Roy Harper" !
Ooooooh Jimmy.... he's always so cute!
dreamy eyes of mr. page
~Jimmy Page looks like a sweet prince sitting there on that rock. What a lucky rock! ~
I can imaigine that girls find him handsome.

I best remember Roy Harper from his lead vocals on Pink Floyd's song "Have a Cigar"
Tired and still frail but thank god he kicked out heroin to come back to us again. The world needs his enourmous talent.
I can remember watching this on the TV when it was first broadcast. Roy and Jimmy, it doesn’t get much better than this for me. Dam fine song too, I have a live version of this on vinyl from In Between Every Line, which is just Roy and his guitar.
Jimmy es pura dulzura.
Thanks again for this - imagine walking over the fells and coming across this!! Heaven.
Leather jacket, scarf, and boots. Jimmy, you are stylishly sexy!
Who cares about the others?
hell, i forgot 'depressed mode' were in this piece - GOOD GRIEF - Roy & Jimmy, great pals, great guys - Brilliant Music. MAAAAARK - nice one Roy.

crying because jimmy
God, the amount of mousse in Depeche Mode's hair could make a strand of cooked spaghetti stand up straight. Ah, the '80's.
depeche mode to Zep is what Jimmy said Herman's Hermits lol
4:47 they exchange grunts like 5 times LOLL!
jimmy page=GOD
Depeche mode and Led Zeppelin are my two biggest influences!!! Depeche looks very young here.

Mark Ellen is the interviewer, I believe. He managed to REALLY piss Ian Gillan off later that same year!
GREAT INTERVIEW!!!
i laugh sooo hard when roy looks back into the camera and laughs after pagey does the sheep noise!!! too fucking funny!! two stoners!!

"pagerism"
I lol'd heartily, even if it was a typo
Hats off to Roy Harper!!
He sang lead vocals on Pink Floyd's Have a Cigar.
But David Gilmore and Roger Waters were not happy with his vocals on that song. They would rather have done it them self.
Haha I love the discussion at the end. 9:21 he says "its not like you just press a button and they write the song for you". Because that's exactly how the top 40 music is now.
Fantastic stuff. Thanks very, very much for uploading it. :^)
I am now grinning like a twat.

Roy Harper reminds of that one one from Waynes world..."Beat him to death with his own shoes"
🤣👍🤣

Fantastic clip - hats off to Roy for putting this interviewer in his place, early on - his bantering was tiresome.
it makes him think of Bonham, a band is full with close friends, when you start, you are one... you know each other, you know when something's wrong... you live together, I mean you do everything together, and when you become famous, you even go closer to each other... who is that other guy with guitar with page?
never saw or heard of him?
I can't believe they would put an interview with Jimmy before that... That interviewer makes me sick.
7:00 in, Jimmy Page nails it.
Jimmy says Its still verses and choruses like in 1960. We are fortunate Led Zep pushed those limits way back .......
Jimmy could have been thinking the interviewer was a complete dolt, but unlike Gene Simmons, Jimmy is too nice -- he wouldn't outright tell him so.
hats off to roy harper

why won't you put Roy Harper in the video title as well?
they cut the best part, the final conversation...
what Jimmy says at 4:16-4:20? "there is no ...... to to succeed"
lol ... yes ... i have done (live many times) and thanks for validating what i just said ... you are absolutly right!
yeah
