Hello Cheeky Scientist ! I dont think Quality control positions can fit in PhD students. As I'm curently looking for jobs, QC positions only require Bachelor or maximum Master. I feel that applying they will not even consider my application as PhD student. What do you think?
Hi, great question. Quality control and regulatory positions are one of the most in demand roles in industry right now (www.biopharmadive.com/news/pharma-is-shuffling-around-jobs-but-a-skills-gap-threatens-the-pr...) and we are seeing PhDs getting hired into these types of positions. Just to give you two recent examples and so you can hear directly from other PhDs, Abeer was hired into a Quality Assurance Scientist position, you can hear her story here: ruclips.net/video/p-Mz6SProqI/видео.html and Ranjani was recent;y hired as a Quality Manager you can hear her story on this blog, (interview starts at about 51 mins) cheekyscientist.com/how-phds-are-elevating-their-career-performance/.
Cheeky Scientist My transition is coming along well. However, your videos have provided me several key takeaways. I’m actually excited about the opportunity to put a few new things into practice.
So all these jobs sounds great. But the problem does the phd the skills and experience to be eligible for these rolls or have to work couple years to get experience plus phd degree!??
Absolutely, Ian. However, this comes down to 1) why you want to do a PhD and 2) if the job(s) you want require a PhD. What kinds of industries are you looking to get into?
Cheeky Scientist Well i found a 2 year doctoral program that is accredited and for industry either insurnace, biotech, or anything managerial, not consulting. Although managerial and consulting is fine
Hey you are looking to do phd after bachelor's? You are not doing master's first? I am interested to know. Because I am into my last year at my bachelors in business management but I am wondering if I can go straight to phd after. Can I get some advice please? Thank you
I think we as Americans with Ph.D.'s (2% of the population as stated in one of your other videos) have to understand the difference between what salary we will accept and which ones we will not, pertaining to reasons why many Ph.d's are unemployed. In the process of a individuals graduating from Ph. D. school or graduate school. They should have time or create time to look at the investment they are accomplishing as well as the repercussions of not being successful afterwards. A degree is just a degree, it is up to the individual to know how to implement the degree in the workforce. Thoughts or comments???
I agree Leonard. There is significant value in getting a PhD ONLY if you apply it well. As in, staying in academia does nothing for your degree once you get it, but leverage your degree in industry where it is valued and where you can actually add value to the world, makes it worthwhile.
@@CheekyScientist I think that what you are doing is great in essence to help those find and obtain that leverage. Yes, trying to gain that leverage in just academic industry may not be the best option but depends on the colleges, ivy league universities etc. Thanks for your response!
Hello Cheeky, This is my last year of my PhD and I really want to get into the private sector. I have published numerous articles (in a theoretical field of mathematics) and I am also a researcher at an institute from my country (also from Academia) where I worked mainly with computational numerical analysis. In my country the private sector is not that good and many math majors are unemployed, because the private companies from my country are not that interested in research. The question is : should I apply in a foreign country or should I go into the IT programming which is growing very fast ?
Hi Pasis - What are you interested in doing? Do you know what types of jobs you're interested in pursuing? You should go over what type of job(s) you are passionate about. Let's start there.
Thank you for your answer. I am very interested in mathematical modeling and computational simulations. In fact, i really like the computational part of mathematics and i am more application oriented than theoretical.
