Simple yet thought-provoking for those whose hearts lie outside academia. I was lucky not to believe wholeheartedly what my supervisors said about job prospect after my PhD. Instead I tried to ask my own self and seeked for answers from like-minded people.
Thanks for your sharing. Keep up the good work!

In academia, it is inappropriate to ask 🙂

I made all the mistakes 12 publications. I was clueless. I was under the illustration that I could get a post doc with that number of papers. No ! You live and learn 😃

It depends on your goals. If you want a higher level management-type position in industry, a PhD will open doors and make this a possibility. Here is our free industry resume guide: cheekyscientist.com/complete-industry-resume-guide/

I feel like the Whole System is totally broken. There are no jobs in Industry. It should not be this hard to get an industry job at all. The fact that Private Sector Science jobs only make up 4% of jobs explains why 80% of Life Scientists are unemployed (if you also take into account 12% are academic/university jobs). It basically means you’ll never get a job in industry. On top of that Companies only value Bachelor’s degree people who graduated with honors and have industry experience because they were trained, over someone who has a PhD. It was never about needing more scientists. Companies stopped training their workers and expected Colleges, Universities, and other people to do it for them.

Can you clarify what you are asking, Biman? Are you considering entering into a PhD program or are you already doing your PhD and considering doing a postdoc?
