  • Watch this video to learn how uploading too many resumes can blacklist you and keep you from getting hired.
Only 5-8% of PhD-level jobs are filled through uploading resumes to online job portals. Most PhDs think that they simply need to upload more resumes to get hired. This is not the case and is often what prevents PhDs from being hired.
Many PhDs are also "not sure" about working in industry and this attitude is the kiss of death when it comes to interviewing for industry positions (watch the video to learn what questions employers will ask to gauge your committment level).
Finally, too many PhDs depend on their advisor, PI, or thesis committee's "connections" to get hired, only to realize that these lifetime academics do NOT have any connections outside of academia. Here, we review how to rely on yourself for your job search and what the 4 key transition points are for transitioning into an industry job.

As a first year PhD student who wants to go into industry after graduating your content is GODSEND. I am the first person in my family (and extended family) to go to college and want a career in science at times I feel lost about what is out there for me. Thank you so much for your work

It's funny, I faced the exact same thing with my master thesis supervisors (One of them being a department head). They didn't know anyone. Though I wanted to do Ph.D. I'm finally starting my Ph.D. in material science. But I hope to put your videos to good use in the coming time, especially in generating networks.
