I have been looking for this song for years; I used to hear it at my aunt Julies and uncle Johns house as a kid on six week holidays in Donegal (Glenties), every year and thought it was called, "We're going away to Ireland soon". I cannot describe the nostalgia this song inspires, what a great childhood and what a hauntingly, soul searchingly beautiful song. Will finish by giving aunt Julie and uncle John a shout-out for the best days of my life...
I love, love, love this song and these three sisters. I bought their very first album, not because I had even heard or heard of them, but because I liked the album cover, and I have been in love with their music ever since.
This song, this album really do stand the test of time. I love it as much today as I did when I heard it when I was in high school. These women made me want to get good at singing harmony :)
I must have watched this 20 or more times since I first heard it. On Sirius XM the Loft. Always, always! makes me cry, which makes so little sense...I'm just a Canadian.
this is an EDITED version of the original performance...the round (Ireland Ocean Boyfriend) went on for very nearly three minutes...check the Roches website
They just played in Iowa at the U of I, and they've actually gotten better with a little age on their voices. The only complaint I've ever heard--that they have a chipmunky tone--is corrected with a bit of age. Amazing show.
"Chipmunk On" gals, I say! I thought this was a brave little song in the 80s. But still nicely quirky and still funny. There's not a lot of srawberry apricot pie in Dublin, even now, I fear.
This songs lyrics are pretty inane, but Hammond song has no such limitations. I do wonder what if anything this song is meant to be saying about the Troubles.
Beautiful. I miss seeing you all perform. Maggie we miss you, but you will always be with us in our hearts, souls and ears. Thank you all.

LOL - my friend sent this to me. Because...we're going to Ireland soon. With our guitars.

I'm heading off to England soon and this song's been running through my head. I like the bit about the pies!
Thank you for posting it!
R.I.P., Maggie Roche..
Thanks for posting this. Could have done without the added graphics, though.

I used to jump all over singing this as a teen "we're leaving behind our boyfriends soon"
One of my favorite bands ever....
I just said the same thing to my son, who's 16. Their talent is a miraculous thing.
Best part of this performance is cut for some reason, there's like minutes missing. The full set is on yt and has the whole song
If you wanted to introduce someone to the Roches with one song, this wouldn't be a bad one....
For me it's Hammond Song. It's exquisitely beautiful!
I introduce them to We

Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear there is a unspoken word that can be heard during the round, on the studio version. Let's see if anyone else can hear it.
Great mix. Absolutely no dissenting here! Good for you!
can't imagine they found much health food in dublin in 1983! deadly song
I am blessed to inhabit the earth at the same time as these lovelies...
❤💔❤
absolutely brilliant !!!!
Maggie and Suzzy toured recently. Terre is mostly teaching guitar, but also does ocassionaly NYC area events.
Why are the Roches so good? They're playful.
please be careful with my guitar whoever you are :-)

It's a "crossover". Dont ask me to iterate the influences. :)
HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!!!!
I'm sure they're singing Arland
Strawberry apricot pie. Mmmmmmm!

nice voices but their songs are tedious because the lyrics are so concrete and novelty oriented.
