That's certainly not most commenter's viewpoint here! But I agree. By not treating them like precious orchids many today read that as "sexist" and insulting. I rather think it's insulting to pander and presume they have no sense of humor.
To all the dorks in the comments: these are talk shows intended originally for a general audience, for amusement and discovery. Not for serious music discussions and long answers. Cavett was great for the medium he was thrust into. If you want long form interviews, try finding some obscure tapes of late night radio shows.
@@mattmattmatt9806 That's a great way to cut off the masses from being exposed to more interesting content. Only have _serious artists_ on _serious discussion formats_ .... jesus, if you judged by some fans, you'd believe The Roches were solemn, high-falutin types. My guess is they appreciated Cavett more than any other mainstream interviewer. He certainly was the best on network tv.
Bless the Roche sisters and THANKS MAG... This is 2 years after my first comment...Im from the Hammond La. area and the Roche sisters were right about Hammond...Im the same age as sister Maggie and Catholic and I suppose I hear the sounds reminiscent of my youth when I listen...Sadly the world WE knew is gone and I enjoy the feelings inspired when I hear those sweet sweet harmonies
Terre's madcap and I'd imagine not that easy to sit with for an interview. I'm a fan of the band but had been away for awhile. I'm saddened to see that Maggie passed away early last year, days after Bowie and that's probably why it didn't get much press. Much, much too young. RIP Maggie Roche.
Wow Dick Cavett is a bad nob, in most interviews I’ve seen him do, but doesn’t ask a single question about the music and a bad chauvinist, feel bad for them, their music is great
Yeah, I'm a Cavett fan, and this was not his shiniest moment. The Roches are amazingly talented, and deserved a bit more, although this doesn't appear to be the entire interview.
I've seen good Cavett interviews-but this wasn't one. He seemed very awkward and self conscious. When I first heard the name the Roches I thought they were "punk" too and that they spelled it "Roaches." ☺
@@SusanDoran Awkward meaning awkward. Attempts are made to get the conversation rolling but it never does. "The Simon Sisters" was an odd comment. Cavett's usually good at this kind of chitchat but just whiffs here.
There's always people whining about talk show hosts on RUclips. Guess what - we wouldn't have these wonderful interview moments without them. Try to have a little perspective if not gratitude. Cavett was the most underrated of all American hosts. People who hate him must hate anagrams, wit and fun.
Cavett was always terrible. BUT! He always had interesting guests, and he usually managed to make them feel comfortable enough to talk casually. So, to that end, I seek out his show.
The whole vibe of this interview is extremely strange
Maggie. You are missed so much.
X
The ' no roches sign ' crack was funny. Pretty quick, Dick.
Finally an interviewer who "gets" The Roches and can allow them to be comfortable and themselves

Don’t have serious artists on the show then ?

@DPC Wow, great input. Very logical, very compelling.

i love the roches so much they’re incredible
It’s incredible how very real, smart and just organic they are. So rare today.

That is incredibly sad. I wonder what she died from.

Cavett is always great! The Roches are always great! Thanks for this clip.
Dick Cavett was certainly a better interviewer for The Roches than Tom Snyder was!
Crossing Delancy is when I discovered the one that played the part of Marilyn in the film.
❤

True, but he's quite funny here. He's always funny
I love them so much
Dick Cavett is a disarmingly nice person.
I can see that Terre was really enjoying the repartee she was having with Cavett. Is that so very wrong?
I've seen good Cavett interviews-but this wasn't one. He seemed very awkward and self conscious. When I first heard the name the Roches I thought they were "punk" too and that they spelled it "Roaches." ☺
I thought they all looked uncomfortable.
A great trio of talented sisters who never really got their due.
❤💔❤
I enjoyed this clip
I believe that there are only two The Simon Sisters: Lucy and Carly.
The Simon Sisters was an off and clueless analogy/reference.
He SHOULD have mentioned the Brox Sisters...
TV HIGH
The 80s - Heyday of Awkward Interviews!!!
"awkward" meaning unpolished and unscripted...?
@@SusanDoran Awkward meaning awkward. Attempts are made to get the conversation rolling but it never does. "The Simon Sisters" was an odd comment. Cavett's usually good at this kind of chitchat but just whiffs here.
This guy has an interesting voice. Like a mix of David Caradine and Bill Maher.
Vincent Price comes to mind...
Suzie looks like Todd Rundgren.....
They seem extremely uncomfortable
They kinda always do. It's kind of their thing.
Cavett was really hit and miss. Him coming off as a simrking prick, as here, was not unusual.
Their humor is a lot like Lennon’s, that’s so interesting
The Simon Sisters (not Carly as a solo artist) were virtually unknown.. what a pointless thing to mention..
"that quote out of context " WHAT ?????? What a sick creeper ......
Why are all American talk show hosts completely ignorant of music
Why are these chat shows all about the host? Shallow.
Dick Cavett is awful here.
Isn't he? He's usually adept at this kind of chitchat but just completely whiffs here. The Simon Sisters? Really? Way to start the conversation.
Jeeze. Show a little respect girls. He IS Dick Cavett.
Dick Cavett has always been a world class creep. Shame these amazing women had to put up with it.
girls are great. cavett's terrible.
Ah, I liked Dick Cavett.
Everything seemed so unrehearsed.
The Roche's were great though.
Cavett's doing fine, you're just talking junk.

Yes, Cavett seems a bit disorganized, but the sisters are clearly not experienced or polished in presenting themselves in an interview.
Cavett was always terrible. BUT! He always had interesting guests, and he usually managed to make them feel comfortable enough to talk casually. So, to that end, I seek out his show.
RIP Maggie ..... I never liked DC very smug , not funny
