It made me kinda emotional seeing how absolutely buzzed Don was. I mean, he looked like he'd just met the Pope, Louis Armstrong and Groucho Marx rolled into one. And what a lovely thing for David to do, show up like that more or less out of the blue. So sweet. So special. What a special, truly special and magical man he was. My heart still aches at the thought of his passing; it still brings me to tears and it's been just over two years. That loss, losing David, it's never going to stop hurting completely, me thinks.
This sure was a big surprise, our family always watched Don Lane and when he put the phone down and did his adorable genuinely shocked intro I almost peed myself when he said David Bowie, I had tickets to see him at the Sydney concert. What a pair of absolute gentlemen, heartwarming to watch this interview again.
My sexual fantasy. He actually existed. Would have been honored to have been his wife! I know he was so much more than that. I don't mean to objectify him as much as I do. I know he had a heart, emotions and a large intellect. Not some beautiful piece of meat.
How utterly charming. I've always thought of David as one of "Mother Nature's" aristocrats; he may not have been born into nobility, but boy! he could sure show the ones who were how it's done.
I remember watching this is a teenage fan in Australia. Was so excited when he came on. First concert ever - Serious moonlight at Lang Park in Brisbane. So memorable - genius of a man. Miss this guy. 😢
In 2016, I felt like a disappointed dog 🐕, when David Bowie died. I ❤ Mr. Bowie, & his awesome music. I'm a huge fan, of David Bowie. Sexiest man ever.
I remember watching this live - the Don Lane Show was one of those shows that became iconic in my life. I would try so hard to stay awake to watch it after long days of school or work after I left school because it was broadcast live after 9:30pm. David Bowie just turning up unannounced was icing on the cake of this final show that had been a staple of many lives for many years.
Damn that long applause made me burst out laughing, I haven’t laughed like that in a while. The way he was like “really?” and it just kept going is hilarious.
They're not, really. They were both blue. His left eye was permanently damaged, when his friend, George Underwood, punched him in the eye over a girl when they were 12 or 13. David had 2 surgeries where they had to basically remove his eye to clean blood from behind it. His pupil was permanently dilated because the muscles were paralyzed. It gave the impression of him having one blue eye and one brown eye. George was forever sorry for it, but, Bowie said he had actually done him a favor. The look added to his otherworldliness during the Ziggy Stardust days.
Space Oddity is a mini opera that makes you feel good while Major Toms trip is going well, then terribly sad when things go pear shaped. Quite a journey.
Don Lane (born Morton Donald Isaacson, 13 November 1933 - 22 October 2009) was an American-born talk show host and singer, best known for his television career in Australia, especially for hosting Tonight with Don Lane and The Don Lane Show, which aired on the Nine Network from 1975 to 1983, and his appearances with Bert Newton.
I remember this. It was the last ever show, and Bowie turned up to wish Lane well. Wonderful! VFL park was a terrible venue, cavenous and cold. KISS played there, loudest thing I have ever heard.
Ziggy Stardust And Spiders From Mars Dimond Dogs with Red Hair and Glass Spiders. If you had to go out in a blaze of glory on your last talk show just have The Thin White Duke show up as your surprise guest. It was so cool how the audience when nuts when Bowie walked out on to that stage it was almost reminiscent and equal to the excitement and awe of when we all saw The Beatles for the first time on The Ed Sullivan Show. Don Lane's last show Wow, it doesn't get any better that that !!!! David Bowie we miss you - RIP.
Ah, well. Sinatra and team turned down David's lyrics for what became "My Way". But hey, it was for the best. There'd be no "Life On Mars" if that hadn't happened! Thanks, Frankie! The story is they at least met each other in LA when they were both recording in the same studios when David was working on _Station To Station._
Don Lane had that effect on visiting artists. There is a clip of Sammy Davis Jr being driven into the studio in a Police car because he just wanted to drop in and see Don. The funny thing was they damaged the car getting into the studio when they failed to negotiate a tight turn into the the actual stage area and bashed the door of the car in.....such a shame we have no shows of our own like this any more, but then again, there is nobody on TV talented enough to carry a show like this either.
ahah I think It's the first time a host said he's aristocratic it was absolutely true I always thought he looked and behaved more like an aristocrat than the real ones.
I've loved all David's hair cuts except for this one...yellow/gold hair just doesn't look good, in my opinion. However, everyone else seemed to like it! My favorite is about the timeof the Reality Tour. He looked so boyishly handsome
In these years it was very fashionable for men have permed haircuts and this color, also here in Italy. It was the only haircut I don’t like , but luckily he showed off it only during the ‘83. Anyway he was always gorgeous until his last days.
He keeps trying to cover his mouth all the time I think he's embarrassed about his teeth. He had the money why in the hell didn't he get them fixed up.
Don Lane says to Bowie, during applause at the beginning of the interview, "See that guy with his hands up in the air, he is a big fan of yours, he's DEAF"
Lol longest applause ever! - bowie oozes charisma, he’s just so darn addictive. Sad sad day when he died.
God. It's like the Stones or Beatles landed at some American airport in the 60s.
@@Kelly14UK Yes indeed M8.
Too right !
Idl the bleach blonde hair is a little.much
@jameskacmarcik2575 AND YOURE NOT DAVID BOWIE SO SHUT UP!
I like how don lane said " it's like talking to royalty" and " he belongs in a palace ". I couldn't agree more!
He was rock and roll royalty.
It made me kinda emotional seeing how absolutely buzzed Don was. I mean, he looked like he'd just met the Pope, Louis Armstrong and Groucho Marx rolled into one. Jim Osterburg and David Bowie were close friends that lived together in Germany. WE WILL NEVER GET PEOPLE OF THESE TWO SORTS EVER AGAIN.
SeaBassVamp Also China girl was Jims song, he very graciously said "David made something of mine better"!
Well spoken, hot, handsome, charismatic, heaven on legs. One of s kind
My sexual fantasy. He actually existed. Would have been honored to have been his wife! I know he was so much more than that. I don't mean to objectify him as much as I do. I know he had a heart, emotions and a large intellect. Not some beautiful piece of meat.
David Bowie was an very talented, intelligent and well spoken man. I miss him a lot, but him and his music will always be remembered. :)
I was in high school, a Bowie fanatic, and still remember the feeling of disbelief when he appeared. Seeing him live on here was mind-blowing.
How utterly charming. I've always thought of David as one of "Mother Nature's" aristocrats; he may not have been born into nobility, but boy! he could sure show the ones who were how it's done.
Lmao, offering the host a seat
He’s so good looking !!!
Were not for his teeth.

He is Rock n Roll royalty, for sure. Great post to find again. Ta.

I remember watching this is a teenage fan in Australia. Was so excited when he came on. First concert ever - Serious moonlight at Lang Park in Brisbane. So memorable - genius of a man. Miss this guy. 😢

Damn that long applause made me burst out laughing, I haven’t laughed like that in a while. The way he was like “really?” and it just kept going is hilarious.
I love how his eyes are different colors. Intriguing.
They're not, really. They were both blue. His left eye was permanently damaged, when his friend, George Underwood, punched him in the eye over a girl when they were 12 or 13. A hair color unknown in nature, but Bowie could do anything. One of the greatest popular artists in history. A true arristic genius.

Yellow hair was great for him to wear
So many girls screeching.

Bowie’s Heinz Burt look.
Fuck yeah!
Просто люблю.
They said it was a suprise so how fans could already be there?
🎷🎵🎶🎸🎙
ahah I think It's the first time a host said he's aristocratic it was absolutely true I always thought he looked and behaved more like an aristocrat than the real ones.
👨🎤💕😘😍
"Oh yeah but nothing pornographic"
Jesus that Don Lane guy has not escaped that Bronx accent, has he? Sounds like he’s a cab driver or a Cracker Jack vendor at Yankee Stadium.
A few damp seat cushions
I don't think that David Bowie knew the Lord so he's probably in hell.
Wow that interview basically consists of audience applause. Was it even worth coming on the show.
Shush and let him speak
👨🏻🎤
the teeth!
I've loved all David's hair cuts except for this one...yellow/gold hair just doesn't look good, in my opinion. However, everyone else seemed to like it! My favorite is about the timeof the Reality Tour. He looked so boyishly handsome
Loved his hair for Serious Moonlight tour. Saw him live. He looked absolutely gorgeous.

Oily interviewer.
Tax cheat.
Morpheous Bever I hear a cock
Who's the tax cheat and why. Thank you if you respond!
