- Hugely popular.
When views reach half a million, I will get the footage upscaled to 4k, leaving out the title in the first second that irritates the wowsers.
The comments were so good I didn't want to lose any by redoing the post when the error was first pointed out in 2019.
Once again, the show went to air in late February1983.

How to be as offensive as possible whilst ingenuously being inoffensive. The best comedian in the world.
Totally agree ! He is required medicine ! 💥💕🤣
Simply, a master of innuendo.
So true!
Laughed my guts everytime sir Les was on,almost chundered, lol
RIP Barry.
Over here in England this man is a legend. Highly intelligent, extremely funny, and educated...rest in peace Bazza.
We loved it when he was on "parkinson"-brilliant !!
Possibly the greatest comic character ever created.
He saved the World once too! ..what a guy!
Barry easily owns any interview he's involved in . Amazing comic genius.
Sir Les is one of the greatest Comedy characters ever created. Barry Humphries is an absolute Legend.
'Ya with me!!!' 😂✌
Was

Hehe
No worries !!!!
“Sometimes your in a bit of a mood for the North and sometimes for the South. Are you with me fellas?”
Absolute Gold!
Rest in peace Sir Les Patterson
22 April 2023, comedy club lights around the world are dimmed momentarily to acknowledge the passing of a great comedy genius. A slice of Tasmanian cheddar or New Zealand Camembert washed down with warm Chardonnay to toast a great man. RIP
Even the king of Denmark appreciates a slice of Tasmanian cheese occasionally, who doesn't?
Sir les is a bloody true icon and enjoys a beer like all of us
Sir Les Patterson is a shinning example of Australia's diplomatic service in action
Was
@d.k.1394 "Is"-he was alive when all these people you're correcting wrote their comments.
Barry Humphrey’s has to be Australia’s best ever comedian. The way he ad lib’s is unbelievable. A very funny man. Victor from Australia.
Vic i agree, but this was tame(prob a septic tank thing), compared to the Parkinson interviews in London where he kills me, the timed dribbles and burps on speech were perfect,he pulled out the stops on Parky to the point where Micheal was could not keep a straight face,Barry by far was a genius.......Pete from London,NO WORRIES !!
I met him early one morning in 1988, whilst on my way to a labouring job, when he was waiting out front of a hotel. I went up to him and told him how brilliant and funny I think he is and he said he was glad to hear that. Very cool guy.
Has to one of the worlds best entertainers, and one of the best of all time,
@@Scotty-P Very well educated too I believe
Don Lane really knew how to ‘interview’ a comedian. He shows great respect and keeps it all moving along but provides Barry with as many opportunities as possible to get the laughs. Both real pros.
Yep. Don let the stars shine. Some current talk show hosts make it all about themselves.
This has to be rehearsed. Look at it again. The magic is making it look as if its ad hoc.
@@ThePaulv12 Of course. That is standard procedure. Straight man feeds the comedian.
@@jdabel1 I sent this vid link to a Labor mate of mine because the impending
election reminded me of that time. Re the 80s election, Sir Les' line, "We're faced really with a choice between a farmer with lockjaw and a dry drunk," was particularly amusing. His other line about Bob sticking to the soda water before being elected and after being elected being able to get, "As full as a Catholic school," with hindsight (and Barry's own love of a drink) made it an interesting commentary.
Chat hosts learned long ago - don't try to score laughs over Barry Humphries !
Probably the most talented and clever comedian of all time. Barry was at his best with his Les Patterson character.
Without a doubt. When other comedians are guests along with Les or Edna they are significantly diminished as they try to match comedic wits with Barry.
Without a doubt a comic genius . His razor sharp wit is unsurpassed and the timing is faultless. Incredible talent and a joy to witness. Have had the pleasure of seeing his one man shows live and he never disappoints. What a gift to entertainment! 👌🏽
Certainly the greatest comedic talent this country has ever produced.
HE CAN NOT HOLD HIS DRINK ruclips.net/video/w4dTlOY_baQ/видео.html
I was just about to say the same thing, till I started reading the comments and came across yours. Barry is a one of a kind and one hell of a talented performer.
Went to see this guy in Southampton with my mum and dad before my mum passed away. He was fantastic, it was a great show..so funny!
Makes me feel warm inside when Sir Les mentions little old NZ, even when he’s making fun of us, genius comedian is Barry
Loved the Don Lane show, great memories of staying up ' late '😅.
"My son Craig, who’s at St Kevin’s and looking forward to a job in the taxation department… Mind you, if he passes his exams I don’t know where he’ll work."
well, there goes another whole universe of talent 😭
Sir Les come back! We need you now more than ever!!!
RIP Barry
I would trust Sir Les more than the current pack of self servers we have now .
Teeth like a burnt out fuse box ....what a gifted. ,brilliantly funny man . Barry Humphries RIP .
Sir Les, was,and always will be a living legend! An absolute comedic genius
Looks so easy, but he was a consummate professional in every respect, God Bless Ya Les
In my opinion my favorite comedian of all time. The best
This is absolute GOLD. Thank you for publishing this as we are on the eve of a Federal Election. Cast your mind back to 1983 ... "It's a choice between a farmer with lock jaw or a dry drunk!"
I vividly remember going to see the Show Barry was promoting here, and on the evening I attended, it was the very day that Prince Charles and Princess Diana had landed in Darwin with the infant Prince William. Well, the phone rang on stage, and Dame Edna answered, and Priness Diana was on the line ..... "You've arrived .... you're at the Motel ... what? ..... you've sacked the Nanny ..... Oh, a local woman? Yes, I have heard of Mrs Chaimberlain, I hear she has a way with kiddies!"
Oh, 1983. Fond memories.
Sir Les is a genius, everytime I watch him at work I need oxygen.
Sir Les Paterson is political corrections nightmare and we love him for it.
A jewel of a comedian. I can’t stop laughing from the second I see him
In the 90's as a young pre-teen I used to laugh my head off with my mom when we saw him on TV.
Barry Humphries-Rest in Peace❤1934 - 2023
Miss him already. Love to Barry and his family.
Barry Humphries is an absolute treasure, and such a lovely man. When he talked about his alcohol allergy, so had to give it up, he was straight up and honest about that struggle. (Recorded on the Parkinson Show). Love him, always, always will. 🤣💥🤣💕
Was
@d.k.1394 yep he died, but as it after the comment of the one you're responding to, "is" was the correct word-so what's your point? We all know it goes from is to was when someone dies.
@@darrylschultz9395 thanks for that Darryl, appreciate it. 😎💖
@@anjou6497 No worries. Cheers.🙂🤙
@@darrylschultz9395 (I'm not a top model in Bankok who Sir Les would've....).
It’s amazing that les Edna and Barry died on the same day
As did Sandy Stone.
They were the days, when the men were men and the sheep were nervous.
Where I come from sheep would scatter at the sound of a zip.
Brilliant 🤩 My gran thought he was a real person She’s been gone years but I always laugh a little more when Sir Les appears on YT
What!, FFS, you mean he ain't real?
@@mragreeable6190 My Gran wouldn’t have it either “just look at the dirty bugger spitting and slavering all over”
@@holymoly6829 Of course he's real, he's the most cultured Aussie I've ever seen, anywhere.😜
@@mragreeable6190 Also Dame Edna was a woman She wouldn’t have it otherwise
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
As a kid growing up I always thought Dame Edna was a real woman.
With out a doubt, top of the class on comedians
Always cheered me up watching Les 😅😁😄
RIP Sir Les, the cheeseboard will never be the same without you.
Years ago I had a conversation with an Australian lady (think Hyacinth Bucket) who bemoaned the fact that Australia was represented to the world by the likes of Humphries/Everage/Patterson. "when there are so many DECENT performers, such as Barry Crocker."
I took a gentle pleasure in informing her that Barry Crocker played the lead role in "The Adventures of Barry Mackenzie". Created by ....Barry Humphries.
'Course, the world has moved on...just as well she didn't mention Rolf Harris as a beacon of nicety !
Barry was brilliant.
Great characters, and he knew the legs of Sam would receive attention.
I remember the first time I saw him, at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne. He would walk around the edge of the stage, accidentally (deliberately) spitting he's whiskey over the first few rows of the audience.
Les is brilliant...."you know Don…behind this veneer of sophistication I'm rough diamond"
Yess, there we quite a few lines like that...
A diamond in the rough for sure Pete
Don's a bit of a rough diamond as an interviewer.
You don't have to plug it, it's sold out Don. Bloody brilliant 😂
You were one of a kind, Barry...we will miss you... RIP
This Pom loves Sir Les
Barry Humphries - priceless. what a talent!!
I always laugh when Les refers to Humphries as "Brian" !
My late parents laughed their backsides off at this comedian.
At 85 years of age, Dame Edna has announced a comeback in her hometown.
Sir Les is my absolute favourite of all Barry Humphries' comic characters.
Les is a tad cleaner than the average politician.
You don’t have to plug it,it’s sold out, Don !
Les Patterson, Aussie icon !
Rip don
cathy castleton absolutely ...... are ya with me.
With a durrie in his mouth and a drink in his hand being escorted by Sam. Outstanding.👏😂
Dhurrie
Loved it, loved it, loved it! Thanks for posting :-)
Pretty much sums up Australian man perfectly.... to this day.
Rest in peace Barry, you legend 💖
Now that's talent.
Australian politics a choice between a farmer with lock jaw and a dry drunk (Fraser and Hawke)
Barry Humphries is a comic genius.👍👍👍👍🤣🤣👍
Quite brilliant, Barry Humphries, A pure comic genius, The world misses this kind of humor. Very sad.
Sheer class. God bless him.
"Are you with me fellas?"
He was so good. RIP.
A truly fluid performer, never does BH lose control of the environment he creates. Sorely missed.
Absolute genius. No, it's not true that everyone can be replaced.... This is unique.
ONE OF THE FUNNIEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD 😂 RIP BARRY !!!!❤ 1?
Thank goodness for the treasure trove of material here.
RIP Barry.
very rare clip and the best les paterson appearance..well done posting..
That cheeseboard gag is classic. Those little flags get up your arse 😂
Old school oz humour, loved the flashback
One of the finest diplomats in Australias short history , if this gent would have taken Chamberlains place in 1938 ol Adolf would never have bothered ..we shall never see his like again , worse luck 😂😂😂
A truly great comedian.
Sir Les for P.M. .... Ya with me, no worries...
RIP SIR LES PATTERSON.
Sir Les reminds me of Barnaby Joyce and his young female assistant .
Oh now that comment made me laugh !!
And it’s so true.
Pure comedic genius. Barry Humphries didn’t play Les Patterson, Les Patterson played Barry Humphries
A diplomat of the very highest class was Sir Les Patterson!!
Awesome Lez. What a classic. The hired helps got a nice set of pegs too
and who's gunna vote for Bob..? He'll only give everyone a job...and who wants a job..?
Well he won that election, thank christ...and I wish he were here now. Miss you Bob...RIP
Humphreys fell into the hide, spirit and corporeal shell of his characters - genius.
Extremely intelligent and razor sharp to ad lib like that.
Only just realised that Sir Les looks like the Australian version of the Joker!! 🤣🤣🤣
would have been an excellent JOKER in the batman films
oh wow he would have been excellent.
Great find and post, a first, well done.
we loved him in the UK
We certainly did. 🇬🇧 👍
I was 15 when Gough was sacked and Les was based on the politicians of that era. A bit like the Royal Family, they were strangely protected by the media that also exposed them when it suited. These days with internet social media, anything embarrassing would be leaked. Back then, deals were done.
Nice legs too!
Not being from there I really only knew of his "Dame" persona which in itself is genius. I had no idea he was such a multi talented man. R.I.P. 🙏 Thanks for ALL the laughs. 😘
Such talent RIP.
Very very clever man..
A 'snowflake's' worst imagining. I would make Sir Les the next Director General of the BBC! Just imagine the reaction from all those grossly over-paid middle class liberals at the BBC. They would be outraged but not one would resign from their cushy number.
Just brilliant.
Those legs were worth a show of their own, not being creepy but rather distracting when watching one of the best comedians ever, not just for Australia, but the whole planet, RIP Barry Humphries.
R.I.P Sir Les Patterson, Dame Edna Everage and Barry Humphries.
Thank for posting MrDangermouse.
Just brilliant
Always loved Les' quiet way of setting up the punchline...kills me lol just kinda of rolling along like a politician would than whammo lol
HE really should have been Governor General, that was a missed opportunity.
I used to love the Don Lane show and the Tommy Leonetti Shows💜💜
Unbelievable thank you
I never tire of watching Barry Humphries, hope he gets better soon.
Unfortunately he passed away
I think he’s past getting well!😱😢
@@babuzzard6470 yeah, i didn't realise how poorly he was. RIP, Barry.
To scared he'll give them a job, brilliant.... Les wasn't on TV nowhere near enough...
Don Lane is so beloved to Australians. He came over from America to teach our TV industry about late night talk shows.
But he is best remembered for inveterate rumours, so beloved of our national culture, of paying working girls to perform scatalogical feats too weird to describe here.
And how citizens of all ages and classes loved to share these stories with loved ones and strangers alike, easing many a conversational interlude.
He was only replaced in his position by the once lovely Jennifer Khyte who visited ER with proctological novelties.
Everyone knows what I mean, and bless you blissfully ignorant foreigners, who must only be guessing about our wonderful culture of always giving the benefit of the doubt to strangers.
"Stains ladies and gentlemen, stains reminiscent of a man falling full length on the dunny floor." Sir Les Patterson, c. 1975
