DAMN!! WHAT A LOSS! Brilliant, talented, HYSTERICAL character that Barry created. Was fortunate to see Dame Edna perform live in Chicago years back. I laughed so hard my lungs and ribs were sore. This man needed to live forever! 😢

Go Edna! The World Loves You! Your spontaneous, penetrating, rapid wit reigns supreme around the planet--you entertained many of us for a full lifetime, we love you so very much. Mrs. Norman Everage (nee Miss Edna May Beasley), morphed into our beloved Dame Edna Everage and what a ride it was :-) Also, RIP Dr. Sir Les Patterson--you ripped our sides apart with your talent using the best medicine ever--laughter :-)

Whip smart, off-the-cuff spontaneous humour,. No preparation, just her own sharp intelligence and natural witty talent that dominates any room and can hold the audience enthralled. Some people you wish would live for ever, because they are so unique they just cannot be replaced.

It's truly heartbreaking to know now that Sir Les will never be elected the first President of the Republic of Australia. His mug on the $100 bill will have to suffice.

Drag queens are artists. Their body is their canvas. So many genres. Comedy/camp queens are my very favorite!

Dame Edna is a drag artist? She is a housewife from Australia, god bless her, possum.

@@Rogerthatx10ame Edna wasn’t a drag queen! She would’ve been horrified to hear herself being referred to in that completely mundane and vulgar that way! Completely mortified!!!! I never thought of her as “a drag” at all! She is in the tradition of pantomime moreso, than drag. She was a clown. A court jester. A
Fabulous, mean and yet sweet fool. There is a soupçon of course of female impersonation in there of course, but somehow it transcends even that because Barry so fully embodies her that it’s this fusion that is pure surrealist art form. Was Les Patterson male drag then? Not really. Humphries’ grotesques were the art of pantomime and caricature through clowning. There was simply no one else even remotely close to his artistry. None of the camp artistes like Danny La Rue, Liberace or any of them even came close. To be able to sustain that character for all those decades and never once phase out of character for a second or give the game away is why it’s so genius. Barry’s sheer stamina was Olympian and athletic.

Fascinating that Dame Edna referred to the London Studios as LWT eight years after the demise of London Weekend Television and the regional stations. LWT produced most of her UK television shows and she clearly had great affection for the station. A bit of a barb to ITV.

Dame Edna is the only person that would come onto a show to promote a book and (1) claim it was written by someone else, who has no talent (2) say its rubbish (3) tell everyone her lawyers are pulping it.
