DAMN!! WHAT A LOSS! Brilliant, talented, HYSTERICAL character that Barry created. Was fortunate to see Dame Edna perform live in Chicago years back. I laughed so hard my lungs and ribs were sore. This man needed to live forever! 😢
Go Edna! The World Loves You! Your spontaneous, penetrating, rapid wit reigns supreme around the planet--you entertained many of us for a full lifetime, we love you so very much. Mrs. Norman Everage (nee Miss Edna May Beasley), morphed into our beloved Dame Edna Everage and what a ride it was :-) Also, RIP Dr. Sir Les Patterson--you ripped our sides apart with your talent using the best medicine ever--laughter :-)
Whip smart, off-the-cuff spontaneous humour,. No preparation, just her own sharp intelligence and natural witty talent that dominates any room and can hold the audience enthralled. Some people you wish would live for ever, because they are so unique they just cannot be replaced.
It's truly heartbreaking to know now that Sir Les will never be elected the first President of the Republic of Australia. His mug on the $100 bill will have to suffice.
@@Rogerthatx10ame Edna wasn’t a drag queen! She would’ve been horrified to hear herself being referred to in that completely mundane and vulgar that way! Completely mortified!!!! I never thought of her as “a drag” at all! She is in the tradition of pantomime moreso, than drag. She was a clown. A court jester. A Fabulous, mean and yet sweet fool. There is a soupçon of course of female impersonation in there of course, but somehow it transcends even that because Barry so fully embodies her that it’s this fusion that is pure surrealist art form. Was Les Patterson male drag then? Not really. Humphries’ grotesques were the art of pantomime and caricature through clowning. There was simply no one else even remotely close to his artistry. None of the camp artistes like Danny La Rue, Liberace or any of them even came close. To be able to sustain that character for all those decades and never once phase out of character for a second or give the game away is why it’s so genius. Barry’s sheer stamina was Olympian and athletic.
So well described Roger. In a class of her/his own. No one comes anywhere near the wit and genius of our beloved Barry who gave the world a lifetime of laughter and continues to brighten up our days. Much loved by so many. Will never be forgotten. ❤
I love how she pivots from her daughter "disappearing", to scolding the audience for laughing at it, to immediately shilling the story in her new book lol
I saw him in Auckland years ago. And, was included in a bit of his humor. Implying I was a woman of loose morals based on my mini skirt I expect. We laughed and waved gladys.
Fascinating that Dame Edna referred to the London Studios as LWT eight years after the demise of London Weekend Television and the regional stations. LWT produced most of her UK television shows and she clearly had great affection for the station. A bit of a barb to ITV.
Dame Edna is the only person that would come onto a show to promote a book and (1) claim it was written by someone else, who has no talent (2) say its rubbish (3) tell everyone her lawyers are pulping it.
What a fabulous talent Barry was , no vulgar , no bad language, no shouting, just plain old hilarity.. Also loved Kate Thornton as a host , what ever became of her , neva see her on Tv now , Shame …
Edna should biogenically freeze her fight so she can re-attach them in her next life because no one else will be able to walk in her shoes. Ever again.
I IMAGINE DAME EDNA COMING DOWN THE STEPS ON ROLL SKATES INSTEAD OF A ROLLS ROYCE.. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOWEIF DAME EDNA PRAYS FOR SOMEONE' AND WHAT SHE PRAYS ABOUT. AND MAY GOD HELP EVERYONE AND HEAL ALL AMEN SHALOM ALELUYA
One of the few presenters I have even seen taking it to Edna and keeping her on track....of course Edna 'won' in the end by pointing out the sauce stain!

What a HUGE loss. RIP Barry. With the way the world is now, we will feel the loss even more profoundly.
i adore dame edna, i love the way that she totally takes over every interview and will not let it end lol x
"...seminal and pivotal - are these words too long for this show?"
Best burn ever.

Well said. I just found her!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIP. Les, Dame Edna, Barry Humphries. Born: 17 February 1934, Kew, Australia

Dame edna was smart funny a legend RIP sadly missed
So, so clever! How can you not adore Dame Edna? I've worshiped her since first glimpse. THIS IS DRAG AT ITS FINEST.
Drag queens are artists. Their body is their canvas. So many genres. Comedy/camp queens are my very favorite!
Dame Edna is a drag artist? She is a housewife from Australia, god bless her, possum.

Extraordinary act.
Every one of these is a treat.
Nobody can handle Dame Edna. Loved her taking the mick about the phone in question.
This Aussie icon will surely be missed.

Of all the things you could have written, you chose to write that. Well done, you fool.
This is one of the best performances
Gonna Miss you Dame Barry. RIP.
Goodbye Possums 🙏🙏🌹🇦🇺🥂
Somehow, as brilliant as the character was, she gets even better and more appreciated over time. Like a Rembrandt.
Edna! Just genious!
And she can spell too.
"I only have restaurant German." Brilliant
Can you please tell what it means?

What does it mean "restaurant German" ? it seems to be very funny :) can someone please explain?
If you went to a German Restaurant you'd be able to identify several items on the menu. Enough German to order dinner. Cheers.
Kills me every time 😂😂
Amazing
Vale Barry Humphries.
A great Aussie.
