This may be the funniest 16 minutes in television history. It needs to be taught. Just brilliant.
This is brilliant - but Dame Edna's appearance on the Jay Leno show with Billie Jean King - playing the Dame Judi role, Elton John as Sharon Osbourne and Jay as Mr Parkinson is arguably even more hilarious. It is on here too - Billie Jean couldn't stop laughing all the way through!
It's one of the greatest comedy performances of all time
So funny
Can't be taught. Can be watched and learned.
Can’t be taught bud - timing like that is a gift from the gods
Hands down, you cannot outwit Barry Humphries. Lightning fast, and absolutely hilarious.🇦🇺👍
What a legend.
And that folks, is how it's done....
Worth watching again and again.
I worked for TCN ch9 in Sydney for Mike Willesee's Current Affair. Bazza did a number of appearances..First time I ever saw him do an interview I thought, what a freaking comedic genius..I watch this quite a bit and NEVER do I not laugh...His entrance alone coming down the staircase was a study for all the supermodels on the runways of the world...and I agree mate... that folks, is how it's done....
couldn't agree more..
Absolutely.
*He's made a living from his wit and intelligence. Most people like that do*
16 minutes of pure brilliance. It’s called entertainment. Great to see four people just making great television.
Yeah David. I especially loved how Dame Edna could take the piss out of people, and they loved it. It was like if Dame Edna Everage didn't take the mickey, you were nothing. RIP our old friend. The worlds a lesser place now. 🥳
FUN
The announcement....😅
💖💖💖
How true.
Barrie Humphries is a legend
We miss Barry Humphries so much.
Sheer brilliance, especially as a Melbournian , saw so many live performances. There were never be anyone like him again. Sheer genius 😂😢😅😂Bravo, Barry.
I've watched this so many times and it never loses superb comedy. So very sad Parky and Edna are no longer with us.
"He toyed with the priesthood." Oh my God. Brilliant.
There will never ever be someone as funny as Dame Edna! Thank you Barry Humphries for all the laughers and making the world a better place!
Pure class. The host allowing his guest to wander and "side guests" who react properly. Super.
Barry was amazing and he knew he was loved here in the U.K right to the end❤he is much missed.
Yes he was loved in both the UK and Australia. He seemed to bridge the two countries. Just hilarious, and an exemplar of the relationship between the two countries.
yes we loved him soooooooooooooooo much.
Genius is an overused term but Barry Humphries was most definitely a comedic genius. He obviously has his pre-written bits, but the way he's able to improv around those and interact off the cuff with the guests is what really makes him great.
I agree. My favourite character has long been Sandy Stone. Humphries was an erudite and self-aware man. From documentaries and interviews I have seen, he comes across as very likeable and someone who doesn't take himself too seriously.
They are having so much fun. Judi Dench didn’t know what to do half the time but she let Edna have her way. So funny! The timing is superb. “You better write this down Judi”. Classic.
When I watch anything that Barry Humphries did, whether its comedy or a documentary, I become aware that there is a big smile on my face. This man was a pure gem. Thank goodness that we have his wonderful work to enjoy. RIP Mr Humphries, much missed.....
Defo sadder place without him /her xxxx
Finally, we get to see this masterclass in good quality! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Sheer genius. Judi and Sharon enjoyed the show and Parkinson played along but got a deserved roasting.
Dame Judi and Sharon were just gorgeous going along with it all. Just beautiful TV, before reality TV invaded!
Honestly all the guest stars and the host were just rolling in laughter 😂❤ that audience had the night of their lives
The way he handles a potentially tricky Sharon Osbourne (who keeps threatening to spoil the punchlines) is masterful.
Yes exactly..Dame J had the right approach, just let Edna go, don't interrupt trying to be as funny...doesn't work
Comedy perfection! It doesn't get better than this!
A master class of comedy
Saved me the bother of saying the same :o)
"What funeral have you been to?"Brilliant.
One of the best interviews in tv history! RIP Parky and Barry 💙
Where did it all go so wrong. We were so lucky then. When you became famous because you were good at something. Look at this. You'll never see such brilliance again. From everyone. Parkinson was masterful. He gave room for genius to breathe, and what a genius dame Edna was. Effortless, original, hilarious. Oh how I miss those times.
I nearly cried at the end because I didn't want it to end. However, I can think about her and I begin to smile about her brilliant delivery-- irreplaceable.
HIM
@misterbonzoid5623 Yes, we know it is a him, but thanks in the event someone doesn't know.
I felt the same
In Australia, we call Barry's comedic style "Taking the piss".
@SusanPearce_H So on the money! Love it.
Dame Edna was one of the all time comedic greats. I've watched this clip several times before and I still had tears running down my face again. This is absolutely top notch stuff, possums.
I have watched this many times and I still crack up.
Yes, me too. But is it a 'carpenter's crack'?
In my humble opinion he was by far the best comedian of his generation. Would have loved to have met him….
@gazman7030
WTF are you on about? Michael Parkinson isn't a comedian, granted he's funny but not of the calibre of Barry Humphres, sure, but Barry Humphries 😉😉😉 wasn't on the show
@@GAGL.Evolution
What are *you* on about??
@gazman7030 wasn’t referring to Parkinson.
I met him several times as a teenager through work in the 1970's at RSO entertainment and once even shared a cab ride with him. He was one of the cleverest, funniest and nicest celebrities I got to know. I miss Edna so much. He was a genius as this clip shows.
@@GAGL.Evolution I see my reply to your rude comment was taken down. I repeat - what are you on about???
Comedic genius. Completely and utterly unmatched. 💚🇦🇺
No moment spared. There's joke after joke and in between an unexpected build up🙏 this is TV perfection. I revisit this every now and then
Dame Edna was the best and her sense of humor and timing is AMAZING...
As soon as Parkinson said ‘Australian housewife’ in the introduction the audience were laughing. Dame Edna was sensationally brilliant here.
You mean Barry Humphries@@relaxpayourincometax
@@patrickgunter7433 No. I meant Tom Bombadil.
😊 Yes - Barry Humphries
The greatest comedian ever. Only Dame Edna could have icons of entertainment rolling with laughter like this, and only Dame Edna could get away with referring to Parkinson as "her special guest." But it is true, whenever Dame Edna was on, everybody was always her guest. And a big thank you,. also to those two people who Dame Edna said were 'forever hanging onto the hems of her many lavish frocks', Sir Les Patterson, and Barry Humphreys. I saw her on stage once. Such a privilege and joy to experience.
Just raw talent and a pleasure to watch over and over again ...
Aussie Icon RIP Dame Edna.
Gold class lesson in comedy. RIP Barry.
Genius. Pure genius. There will never be another comic like Barry Humphries. Plain old.
I've watched this so many times. Dame Edna is an Australian icon. May she rest in peace
There'll never be another Dame Edna Everage.
Humphries ability to 'plate-spin' company was breathtaking
I'm addicted to this video clip I can't stop watching it. I need 16 minutes everyday. This, by far, is the funniest I've ever seen.
I went through that phase.
Barry’s comedic timing and delivery was untouchable.
You won’t see to many like him now.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
my gynaecologist looked up this morning...😂
Very interesting the different attitudes of Judi Dench and Sharon Osbourne in this. Dame Judi knows she's watching a show and keeps her responses to a minimum, whereas gobby Osbourne can't help interjecting and laughing in an exaggerated manner
THE best performance by the late *Barry Humphries* as Dame Edna! He was a keen thinker and comedy genius. #Missed
A masterclass in comedic delivery and timing
Parky was a genius,,, just lets the guest talk,,, and that just shows how to be a great chat show host.
Dame Edna was lucky to have him as her special guest. Of course Dame Edna would always be on the best shows, but it is a little sad that she always forbade her manager, Barry Humphreys, to ever book her on any show that Les Patterson was on. Sir Les, and Dame Edna together would have been wonderful, but it was never to happen.
Yes he was, let the guests know when to talk and when for himself to talk. What a treasure he was!
Effortlessly humorous. A comedic genius.
The best kind of humor! 💗💗
I grew up watching this legend and I absolutely miss her. Always guaranteed a huge belly laugh with Dame Edna. She was so quick witted and naturally funny. Comedy genius and there will never be anyone like him again. ❤
I remember when this originally aired on tv. Dame Edna was one of a kind.
Comedic gold! No swearing or shouting obscenities, just clever innuendo, observational satire and suggestion.
The greatest chat show appearance of all time! RIP BH and DEE❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just decided to see what Dame Edna was all about. Wow, more brilliant than Einstein could ever hope to be,!!
I AM DYING HERE FROM LAUGHING 😂😂😂😄
Thankyou for showing this old clip, I don't think I have laughed so much in ages. I forgot just how funny this man was!!!
I saw Barry Humphreys as Fagan in Oliver! many moons ago. He dropped a prop onto the orchestra net and had to retrieve it. As he did so, he slipped into Dame Edna for an ad-lib and the audience gave him an applause. Obviously that was the most memorable thing of that performance.
It. Just. Doesn’t. Get. More. Hilarious. Than. This.
That was the bloody best show I've ever seen.
How the heck does dame Edna do it?????
He off the cuff wit is unfathomable ❤❤❤❤❤
You better write this down Judy…That was so rude and so so funny. The best Dame Edna and perfect guests and host for this performance. World class TV.
Absolute classic flowing satirical comedy from the amazing Barry Humphries.
True to say, I sorely miss his comedy and talent.
What a funny talented man. So many different characters.
Only of the world's greatest doing "her" thing and Sharon can't shut up...Dame Judy gets it
Agreed!
And to think we removed the “Barry Award” from this Comedic Genius. You can’t get this clip to be better… RIP Sir.
This is just AWESOME!!! Nr 1 of all humor clips. Never will be another Dame Edna. Bless her (him) ❣❣❣
What a master comedian he was. His Dame Edna character is unsurpassed.
I met Dame Edna a couple different times at the now-gone nightclub called Shampoo in Philadelphia many years ago, when I was a young thing, finding my way in the scene. She was as delightful back then as she is now. 😁🥰❤
If Dame Edna winged her way through this without direction or a script, she's unbelievably talented.
There’s a loose guideline for the order of the jokes, along with Parkinson’s list of questions to keep the joke’s rolling..
Brilliant!!!
Sharon Osbourne outing Simon Cowell there at the end was so funny
PURE GOLD, A GENIUS. ONE OF A KIND. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Comedy at its best. RIP🙏
Never gets old.
God we miss you Barry RIP precious😩❤ u
6:07 All these years and I've watched this so many times & I only noticed recently Judi saying "We'll have to get our own back." 🤣
This is classic!!!
That was just absolutely sublime...
😍😂😍🤣😍😂
Pure comedic genius...
👏👏👏
That's what you call outrageous talent...
Take a bow Dame Edna Everage...
You'll never be forgotten...
💙💙💙
I grew up with Dame Edna on the tv, absolute legend and sadly missed!!!
Finally a HD version of this masterpiece
I never knew there was a Michael Parkinson channel and i'm glad i now know. He was simply the very best and i'm sure missed by everyone. Talking about being missed. Dame Edna was so smart and in my opinion this interview was her greatest.
Stevie in Fife.
Only Peter Cook comes close in his delight at lancing the joke. Pausing for the perfect moment to put the knife in. Xx A great improviser too. Xx
😮
The Dame was in the house!
There is so much brilliant content over the decades to enjoy from this absolute genius but I’ve always thought this particular occasion was the absolute pinnacle. Parkinson just let Edna rip and shook with genuine laughter all the way through and Judy and Sharon were appreciative sports who enjoyed every second of it. ‘Legend’ is an over used word but in the case of Barry Humphries/Dame Edna Everage it is 100% appropriate.
I agree - “legend” is fitting. Brilliant and inspired.
I agree with your sentiment although I do think another Parkinson appearance at least equals this one - the time Dame Edna was on with Lenny Henry. It's incredible. Check it out if you haven't seen it, there's a low res potato cam video of it somewhere here on RUclips.
@@Sthuont Funny you mention that I just watched and yes she’s on fire but I’m afraid Lenny Henry makes me cringe (plus I know someone who worked closely with him). It’s the interplay with Judy and Sharon I particularly enjoyed with the other clip but both are vintage Edna. There were some other gems when Edna’s series centred around running a health farm ( episodes with Will Young and Martin Sheen were hilarious) I thought Sheen would pass out he was laughing so hard.
I agree. After a friend sent this (old one) to me, I couldn't wait to watch more. But good as they are, none tops this one.
Had the absolute honour of seeing Sir Barry on many occasions also met him a handful of times, thanks for the memories Mr Humphries.....🙏🙏
Absolutely gutted I never got to see this genius live.
Loved Michael Parkison shows.
.
Brilliant to finally have this in better quality! One of my all time favourite bits.
Hilarious. Dame Edna was a true icon. ❤❤❤❤
One word ICON!!!
I keep coming back to view this. BH was on fire here, but he was always so amazingly consistent. What a genius. What a loss. I was incredibly sad when he passed, and I'm forever indebted.
So unfair that an innocuous fall and the subsequent infection took him from us but he was so loved by many including the King who called him directly only hours before he passed….there won’t be another like him ❤
Absolutely sublime!! A wee bit of scripting to maintain momentum but that didnt interfere with the perfect humour delivered by all four players but esp Dame Edna and Parkie. Glorious!!!
Dame Edna, The Greatest
Omg I seriously can't stop laughing 😂😂😂
Judy couldn’t get further away in her seat and then the little sorority where she copied sharon putting feet up - who knew she was that shy - it’s actually very sweet which is probably why i like her so much
Legendary. Possibly the best chat show appearance ever.
We will never see his like again.
Absolutely fabulous she has me in stitches all the way. The only man that does that. Yes indeed this is how it's done. RIP dame Edna. Thanks for the laughs.
Deeply missed Barry Humphries. My mum loved him too
💔 x
Excellent as always - ironically has same birthday as my daughter
There's an artist who is always 2-3 steps ahead. As himself he's great too actually which is rare. On LIVE TV he/she have this air of danger but never over-steps the mark.
He said, mum, I'm a practising homeopath and so is my roommate Clifford.
Pretty sure that's what he said to me...
Barry humphries is a comedy genuis and very much missed wonderful man he was !!!
😂 one of our beautiful Australian Icons ❤
This is the way chat shows should be done. The guests kicking of their shoes, getting comfortable and going with the flow!
Barry Humphries was an absolute genius with his characters and their chat styles.
