Apparently, when 'Madge' (Emily Perry) retired from performing in her 90s she moved into an elderly care home in South London which was rather substandard. Upon hearing of this, Barry Humphries took it upon himself to locate much better lodgings - ultimately finding her a place at Brinsworth House, Twickenham (a residential and nursing retirement home for former theatre and entertainment professionals). She passed away in 2008, at age 100.

A very talented man in his own right. 🙂 Such was the strength of Dame Edna's character, it was actually easy to forget that it was Barry Humphries under the costume and makeup. Madge invited Edna to accompany her and husband Douglas Allsop on the honeymoon. At Rotorua, Madge and Edna witnessed Douglas accidentally drown in a boiling volcanic mud pond. Dame Edna was just brilliant and the world has lost a Golden Star 🌠🌠 in the fantastic person, performer, actor, artist etc etc that Barry Humphries was to the world. We need this humour, fun and wit because it feeds the Soul. God Bless and Rest his beautiful Soul.

the glory days of tv interviews. Parky was the king. he had some wonderful guests, and some awkward ones (mentioning no names - meg ryan). the highlight of saturday nights was this show. Dame Edna did tend to take over when she was on - Parky loved the micky taking. much better than the american chat shows where the audience whoops and hollers over nothing. R.I.P. Dame Edna
