To my knowledge this is the only Roches song in this situation of being practically unavailable. Not even second hand on discogs. Puzzling, as the song and the delivery are so good.
I never missed a year at the bottom line to see the Caroling Caroliers... I just watched the whole 1990 concert early show on RUclips which I do now every year..... I love the roaches so much since I first heard them playing at Gerdes but I had met Suzy when she was hanging out at the Cornelia St., with Carolyne Mas who Was a friend of mine through school until she disappeared before high school, and she introduced me to Suzy who was so cool, but I didn't think anything about it at the time! They were friends. Anyone have a favorite Roches song? not possible! xoxo miss Maggie❤
Thanks, Robert. Learned of Maggie's death only today and so have been all at sea and all over RUclips. What a joy to find this rare cut, a favorite of mine. You're not alone in your adoration of these wonderful sisters. I've loved them for most of my life. Peace and love, Martin
Love those girls, never heard this one thanks for sharing. Too bad about the scratch. Still worth hearing. Thanks again, I never knew they made a single either!
Oh, gosh no! And because I always did, and always sang the highest part, I got to share a mic with Maggie at two small venue concerts she did with Suzzy and sing Terre's part on 3 songs! The thrill of my life and a dream come true!!
Well, I have to say that this isn't my favorite Roches song. Nevertheless it's good additional context to have; was unaware of but not surprised by their working with Robert Fripp. The well-placed mild dissonances are especially effective. Thanks for sharing.
For the record, the electric guitar on this track was actually played by Terre, not Robert. Listen to "Sex is for Children" from the same album and you'll recognize the guitar sound. Fripp played the guitar solo on "Losing True".
Good to know. For me, this album is over-produced, to the point where it just sounds harsh. Hard to beat their debut LP, in terms of song writing, performances, and its " audio verite" production. 'Losing True', ' On the Road to Fairfax County', and ''Scorpion Lament' shine.
Anybody remember a song they did that went "Turn off the water / You waterfall"? I heard it once in concert but I don't think it's ever been recorded. If it was ever captured by someone on a video that would wonderful!
I would love to be able to find the lyrics for this. I can make out the chorus, but the verses sound muddy (to me---hearing loss). If anybody finds them and posts them, that would be great.
hi robert! is there any chance you could post "the factory Girl" as sung by the Roches on the NUrds album? i would love that! none can compare! thanks, aloha
Lyrics (couldn’t find anything online so this is purely by ear, feel free to correct me or tell me if you hear something else) I’m so tired of trying I have tried with you I’m so tired of trying You gotta let me out from under you Long time ago She met a guy He courted her She don’t know why He was married once You unlucky wife Little did she know The sharpness of your knife I’m so tired of trying I know you’re not to blame I’m so tired of trying Won’t your bare feelings ever change Oh, the love affair The second family came A baby growing in her History of shame She is worried for The one who will be born Will the baby bare Your unending scorn I’m so tired of trying I’m wounded in your war I’m so tired of trying I don’t want you to hurt me anymore (Oooh, ahhh) She’s the mother of A second family She would like you to Treat her deservedly Maybe you can’t see Maybe you can’t do Anything she would Ever want you to
beauty, intelligence, wit, charm, musicianship... amazement, fun, tears, being human....Roches
RIP Maggie. Such beautiful harmonies❤
I feel like these women are part of my chosen family. Their songs resonates inside my head and have for 30+ years.
Same here, James. This one's a rare gift. Bless Maggie, Terre, Suzzy, Lucy, David, and Jude.
To my knowledge this is the only Roches song in this situation of being practically unavailable. Not even second hand on discogs. Puzzling, as the song and the delivery are so good.
I never get tired of this song! One of their very best :)

this is right up my street. I couldn't care less about the little audio clicks and clacks. The tune carries the day.
Thanks, Robert. Learned of Maggie's death only today and so have been all at sea and all over RUclips. What a joy to find this rare cut, a favorite of mine. You're not alone in your adoration of these wonderful sisters. I've loved them for most of my life.

[And yes, even still, the world just is not as shiny without Suzzy in it.]
Maggie passed on, not Suzzy

Am i the only one who just loves to sing aloud with al these songs? :)
Don't think that, because it's not true! count me in!
Oh, gosh no! And because I always did, and always sang the highest part, I got to share a mic with Maggie at two small venue concerts she did with Suzzy and sing Terre's part on 3 songs! The thrill of my life and a dream come true!!
superb. thanks for posting this.
This sounds, from a production level from the White album....What a treasure!!
Thank you!
thanks for posting this, you're the ginchyest!
wonderful, thanks so much!!

Fripp recorded with them on other songs too
Nice! Thanks a lot for sharing.
Really good of you to post this. Lovely song
Great post!
Thank you
Great song! What a shame it never made the album. Was that a laugh track at the end?
thanks for sharing!
Terre says it's her doing the guitar solo here, not Fripp.
GReat! Thanks for posting :)

shame it wasn't on the best of. I think Seductive Reasoning is out on cd again at least
Anybody remember a song they did that went "Turn off the water / You waterfall"? I heard it once in concert but I don't think it's ever been recorded. If it was ever captured by someone on a video that would wonderful!
Everyone is going to hate me, I love everyone that hurts me.
I like the vinyl "pop" early in the song.
from the Hallelujah Chorus single
I would love to be able to find the lyrics for this. I can make out the chorus, but the verses sound muddy (to me---hearing loss). If anybody finds them and posts them, that would be great.
James A. Rocco: I feel exactly the same!

Lyrics (couldn’t find anything online so this is purely by ear, feel free to correct me or tell me if you hear something else)
I’m so tired of trying
I have tried with you
I’m so tired of trying
You gotta let me out from under you
Long time ago
She met a guy
He courted her
She don’t know why
He was married once
You unlucky wife
Little did she know
The sharpness of your knife
I’m so tired of trying
I know you’re not to blame
I’m so tired of trying
Won’t your bare feelings ever change
Oh, the love affair
The second family came
A baby growing in her
History of shame
She is worried for
The one who will be born
Will the baby bare
Your unending scorn
I’m so tired of trying
I’m wounded in your war
I’m so tired of trying
I don’t want you to hurt me anymore
(Oooh, ahhh)
She’s the mother of
A second family
She would like you to
Treat her deservedly
Maybe you can’t see
Maybe you can’t do
Anything she would
Ever want you to
❤❤💔
Maggie Roche is playing the electric guitar solo, not Fripp.
No No, not Maggie; I meant, Terre! I conflate Roaches! T'was Terre, most certainly.
