Huron Carol (Twas in the Moon of Wintertime)

Twas in the Moon of Wintertime was a carol, written in and around 1643 by Jesuit missionary Jean de Brebeuf. He wrote it to explain the Christmas story to the early Catholic converts from the Huron Confederacy using familiar characters for their better understanding. This is my version of it. Merry Christmas everyone!

Here are some video clips I took a few weeks ago when we had some warm weather and I went out in my kayak along the Oswego River here in upstate NY. I added my rendition of "Going Home" by Dvorak. As of today most of the leaves have fallen and the weather has gotten much colder but it truly was a Beautiful Fall here in Upstate!

My favorite time of the year here in Upstate NY! Showing some of the scenery around my home. Song is "My Old Friend " by Sam Amidon and the poem is by William Shakespeare,"Sonnet 73" Take care everyone! Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare (1609) That time of year thou mayst in me behold When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, Bare ruined choirs,...

2025 🤎
Hey, that is so great to find this. I saw them a couple of times in New York back in 1979 and was looking for them for years. What an amazing band! Thanks for posting! Good memories!!!
I discovered the Roches in 1986, right smack in the middle of a deep personal awakening. I'll always be grateful to these amazing women. This recording is special to me. ❤
Still Quite Beautiful 42 years later
2024 I know no better way to begin Christmas Day than this.
Very well done. I find now that I really like this song
So wonderful as always! (And so young!). Love you you both at Christmas - Anne Pratt
I adore this! Thank you, Roches!
I recently sang carols and hymns at my Granny's retirement home with a bunch of residents who were doing a singalong. I did not know this song but someone handed me a hymnal and the pianist started playing it and I recognized the tune so I was able to sing along. Now I can properly learn the song!
I heard this song for the first time yesterday and I cried, unbearably beautiful
I remember when Time Magazine declared them the second coming of folk music. Bought this album in the early 80s (I think that was the time) Truly remarkable.
this record is a treasure
Five. Nights at freddy's 2 keep the box winding
Wow. Didn’t know they would sing the Robert Fripp guitar solo in a live performance.
Best song ever.
Beautiful
Love this
amazing
This song makes me cry every time
A complicated arrangement that they did so well!
This is the best song, right?
What beautiful harmonies❤ RIP Maggie
The girls were hot that night.
Oh, this brings back the memories. A work colleague of mine turned me onto the Roches in 1982. I am eternally grateful to him. Sad that Maggie died. Loved her contralto voice. RIP.
WOW! This is TOO Good!!!😳😢😢😢
This song is spine-tingling, melancholy, wry, smart and wise all at the same time. It tells a perfect story.
Remember when they were on Tiny Toon Adventures?
Wow, just watching this for the first time. Awesome.
No auto tune here. Brilliant
one of the most beautiful songs of all time
Terry Hall brought me here.
I was at this Soundstage performance in Chicago with my wife and friends. It was the first of many live performances of theirs I've been lucky to see. It was amazing to see them perform their songs so perfectly. They've always delivered their music nearly perfectly. That and the way they brought humor into their delivery and shows made them a must-see every time. We saw Suzzy and daughter Lucy last night. Great songs and humorous repartee as always. I try to see them whenever they're in town. RIP Maggie. 😢
How lovely to meet you beautiful people here. Thank you, Jim. Will never forget my introduction to their first album & the privilege of seeing them live & even meeting them in person as a journalist in the '80s. They are family to me. Know we all miss Maggie; she has certainly passed into the immortal. I have cancer now & am increasingly drawn back to their music. Do explore their whole discography! So worth it. Some of it may seem dated (not for me, as I lived thru it). But lyrics. Cohesion. Magic. Love to all. Keep hope & such wonderfully good music alive.
I know I'm the only one commenting on this. But one of my life regrets is never having seen the Roches... Just, the best
Amen and Amen 💖💖
I think it would have been hard not to be openly weeping if you were in that audience
Magnificent Roche sisters! Never to be replicated: watch & marvel!
dont forget to wind up the music box or the puppet will kill you
The sound of these sisters singing in harmony makes all the hair on my neck stand up…even after 40 years
Great song, great cover ❤ 2024.
❤
Oh my, chills!!!!
Adore this song....what a beautiful performance. Those harmonies are quite simply perfect x
Beautiful. Decided I want this playing at my funeral!
Where is our down the line? How far away?
Stunning three part. I run this song thru my nit wit brain a couple times a week. I lived there then and I didn’t go see them. Suzzy and her daughter and Terre perform in my area in NY on occasion. I’ll have to get out more. At least we have the internet now to go to.
man, how i wish i was a musician
