The 3 tiered seasons cake, I love the waterfall, actually-it again changes seasons in the water-the fall tier, the leaves are “floating” in the water just like leaves in the fall would, the bottom Tier is frozen, as in the winter-amazing!

You totally wrote off the first cake! It was the best and the most challenging. Kudos to that baker, they created a veiled marble statue out of cake and white buttercream and it was immaculate!! And you just went, "meh, next!"
It was just meh. Compared to what the statue really looks like, they just didn't have the execution to do that. Kudos for them for trying it, but it did look like a ghost, or just like hair was falling in front of her face, and not a veil.
@@Samew0001 well yeah the actual statue is solid marble done by a professional sculptor, this woman works at a town bakery doing it with frosting lol, it's stunning
@@LizaGrace97 the person at the bakery chose to do that, she didn't tell her to do a marble statue. i think doing a marble statue is a good idea, just not that one. It doesn't translate well. I think it's nearly impossible to make buttercreme look like a veil, could've done any other statue. You gotta know the limits of your medium.
It's one of the most amazing marble sculptures ever imo. It looks like fabrics, but it's obviously not. I could watch it for hours and never get enough.
I actually love the bits of crumbs coming through on the first cake! I feel like it evokes the marble material the sculpture is originally made out of. HUGE respect I LOVE that first cake. Similarly love the second cake!! Beautiful design and textures, I’m a sucker for seasonal stuff. Also, I this the orange in the waterfall during the “fall” cake was on purpose, you know cause the leaves fall and end up in the water :) the third cake is cool, but it’s not what you asked for (both in buttercream challenge AND in flavors). I think there actually was a mix up here! Great video as always, thanks so much!
The first cake was my favorite. It was almost a flawless replication of the statue. The crumbs felt intentional since the real status is actually quite aged. I do think it would have been extra spectacular with a little airbrushing to enhance shadows Second one was too over the top and felt too childlike. Third one didn’t follow the brief.. Cool video!
I agree completely! The second cake was child like because they threw in every thing and the kitchen sink, the buttercream painting skills were very poor and it was muddy/messy color work. It was like a kid described every season to a drunk Bob Ross and he tried to paint it as fast as he could. 😂
@@saimashupti469 childish and childlike are 2 different words with different implications, the latter often being used to depict or describe a characteristic in a positive light.
I’m very impressed with the marble statue cake. Elegant in it’s simplicity. Cake #2 was awesome. So many elements to take in!!! Marvellous buttercream techniques. I personally like the addition of the waterfall. Cake #3, although lovely, I agree with your disappointment. Not enough buttercream used for the design. My pic would cake #2 as the winner. In looks and kudos for tasting yummy 👍 Cake #1 as second place, as far as looks. Too bad the Bailey’s flavour was missing. ☹️☹️
@@beyondicings your cake was amazing. I love the waterfall addition, it took the cake to another level. I wouldn't be able to cut into honestly, it's absolute art !!
My parents' wedding cake got swapped with someone else's. I wonder how often that happens... I really doubt that cake was meant for you, they literally didn't do anything you asked for.
She literally could’ve just called, but acted like it was the end of the world. Like it’s cool that she didn’t care, but I’m sure the person the cake was actually meant for cared.
I would have called the bakery with the boozy cake and ask why you didn't get what you ordered. This is a challenge and might not matter, but if I spent $500 on a cake and it was nothing like I asked...especially the flavor...we would be having some words. Having said that, it was a gorgeous cake.
I definitely agree. I think it's best to let them know not just because it's not what you ordered but also so they don't do it again. Imagine if it was your wedding cake. My wedding cake wasn't flavoured how we chose and now all I can remember about the cake is that it was wrong.
I seriously don’t understand how these bakeries could mess it up so badly so frequently. They’re a business! People are paying very well for these cakes, and it takes a good amount of effort to make them, so how could they possibly manage to get an order so wrong? It’s a lack of care and lack of organization.
@@Sandy-oe5mh That's still a lack of care and shows how disorganized they are. It's a $500 cake. There's no way I would ever hand someone a $500 product without making sure it's actually theirs, especially when it's a food item that can't be easily switched back. Lots of these places make wedding cakes and cakes for other important events. There's no excuse for handing off the wrong cake.
I would have called about the third cake, I think they sent you home with someone else’s cake and if not complained. Bakeries don’t get to just change flavors without tell you…
The Veiled Virgin cake was my favourite for the sheer skill that went into it. It’s one thing to sculpt a head and another entirely to sculpt a head that is under a veil! AND in buttercream! I hope we get an update about what’s going on with the third cake. I’m worried you got someone else’s cake and someone somewhere got yours! If what you said is right and they just messed up the flavours, I hope there wasn’t an accidental switch of those either. (Absolutely gorgeous design either way. Giving me lots of ideas!)
I wonder if the 3rd cake wasn’t yours at all, for it to be basically a completely different cake from not using much buttercream and the wrong cake flavors…but they all are beautiful!
I learned to decorate cakes in 80's in a class through 4h. We did everything in buttercream or royal icing, which we learned to make. Flowers were done directly on the cake or on a flower nail, especially roses. I did many 3d type cakes for friends and family birthdays and parties. I decorated for the county 4h show and state competition. For those we actually were allowed to use styrofoam instead of cake. I think a well done buttercream cake is so much prettier than fondant and tastes better.
Likewise, learned in the 90s. It's interesting seeing some of the techniques of that era come back into fashion again. It makes me think I could take up cake decorating again!! 😆
I flinched when Laurie cut into the floral cake, I don’t think it was hers! I think they should have called the bakery and checked - even if the bakery couldn’t accept it back I can’t help thinking that it was someone else’s special cake and clearly a lot of work went into it. If it was my special occasion and not only did I get the wrong cake and there’s no time to create a new one, some lady on RUclips ate mine, I would probably cry!
My jaw dropped and stayed open during the whole first cake section. That was unbelievably amazing. I wouldn't be able to eat it. That's just pure art, and I literally almost cried. Wow. Just wow.
Hunnnnnn it's an artistic philosophy on the changing of the seasons. The waterfall signifies the "falling of the seasons" spring summer blends together in many places summer is just an extension of spring so one layer to show those 2 seasons also spring and summer is dainty and delicate with babies being born, butterflies, flowers, etc so smallest layer on the cake with delicate details. But then fall and winter very quickly change and fall into a frozen winter wonderland. The rapids white crashing part of the waterfall is crashing into winter. With winter being so dramatic with temperatures, snow, ice, and wind the bottom tier showing the most dramatic details, and the largest tier showing the grand drama and changes the northern hemisphere goes through every winter.
@@j-bq5nc the joys of art is that it takes on a different meaning for everyone who sees it, and there are a lot of things based around the seasons because they were one of the easiest things to track from the start of time. Plus their vision of the art is amazing, I love see how people interpret art differently.
@@j-bq5nc then 1) why wouldn't it be summer on the bottom.....2) what's with the waterfall.... 3) someone who creates this much detail and art within a cake has an artistic mind and absolutely has the capacity of creating something with a story like such. 4)just because you're thinking simplistic doesn't discredit the fact that some out there create things like that with that level of creativity and reason.... take it from someone with personal experience. Yes me. My mother has been doing cakes for over 20years and SHE creates things with that level of detail and storyline. Think outside your small box, cake is no different from painting! Cake Artists create art, with a story, not just for the sole purpose of looking good and being edible.

That first cake really caught my attention in the thumbnail! I’m an art history major and I was so excited to see someone take on the challenge of recreating the sculpture through the medium of cake. They did an amazing job, especially with using buttercream, too! I'm very impressed!🥰
The first cake was great but the second cake stood out to me as someone who uses oil paints. The texture and layering were beautiful and the colors fit the theme of each tier perfectly. I also love the tree and waterfall tying the piece together. A lot of thought and effort when into that cake and it’s beautiful.
Omg idk why anyone isn't talking about the second cake? It's absolutely so gorgeous, it's actual art and honestly I would pay more than 500$ for it if it were for a wedding or smth
@@David-uc4hc how? Technically speaking, you can wipe away white frosting and remake the design as many times as needed or fix certain parts. The waterfall one feels like if they messed up even once it's impossible to fix. Granted, it's cook that they did a statue but.... it ain't a real marbled statue. It's not as good as an actual statue. Not for $500.
That statue one is actually what I was most excited for! I’ve seen similar statues and was always soooo impressed how they make stone look like soft silk. Never thought to find it earie but I can see where you are coming from ;)
Hands down, my pick is The Veiled Virgin (first cake). It's so perfect that I got goosebumps looking at it. Immaculate! The level of artistry needed to pull this off is astounding, especially in buttercream, then puposely placing the crumbs to mimic the original marble!!!!! OMG!!! This cake is absolutely one of the most amazing I've ever seen! 🤯😍💗💗💗💗
I had a waterfall wedding cake that cascaded down into cupcakes, and I adored it! It was mostly buttercream with a few homemade fondant stones here and there. Shoutout to Celestial Cakery in Charlotte NC!! The seasonal waterfall/branch cake is my favorite--the painterly style is amazing.
Okay cake number 2 is hands up my favourite cake ever !!!! The first one is incredible of course, and the last really not okay in my opinion given the price, but all this is shadowed by the incredibly stunning second cake ! I am really in love with it. The design is just WOUAH but the technique ?! So much detail, so pretty I just can't take it 😍🥰
Oh my goodness the marble sculpture cake blew me away! It wasn't perfect, but I never would have even thought to do that!😱 Incredible!! I loved the detail with the four seasons cake, and the waterfall was my favorite part!🤩 I think the purple and green one was going in a good direction, but just needed some adjustments. 😊
I liked the second cake best. The colors and detail work are amazing. The winter scene was done so well I got the feeling of movement from the snow storm.
I definitely love the '4-Seasons' art cake!!! There's so much artwork, and getting the seasons to blend so beautifully, took planning. It's worth noting that the designer didn't just make all the decorations and put them onto the cake... She literally sat for 'hours' in front of the cake - mixing and creating 'on the spot'!!!
Why don't you pay five 1 star bakeries to bake something, maybe something super "on trend" to make it easy for them. I reckon we'll see a real mix of outcomes - including discovering some real talent buried in a 1 star.
Ok, so all those cakes are simply amazing and beautiful🤩! My favorite one had to be the “seasons” cake. I love how the baker introduced you to each season in a very beautiful way, and the details were just unbelievable! I completely loved it💕! Now let’s move on with the grand total amount of times Laurie said the word “buttercream”. The total number was 40😂😂!
@@beyondicings Well you did a very beautiful job. I wish I lived in Canada, so you can my cakes 🥰! Keep up the good work and good luck in everything ☺️!
the beauty and skill of the marble statue is the ability to imply the form under the sheet while capturing the flow and texture of the sheet in something that isn't easily textured Of course rendering texture is difficult, in both buttercream and marble, so I think the form and technique used should be much more heavily appreciated here It's incredibly difficult to imply a sheer fabric draped over a face, and that decorator did an amazing job of it. For being a buttercream cake, I think it's my favorite one of them all
2nd cake (my favorite, although I was also very impressed by the first one) gives me Van Gogh vibes a little bit. I really want to know if the third bakery mixed up instructions between two people who happened to order vegan cakes.
The first one is insane! It's a remake of an existing marble statue of a woman with a veil over her head. Conceptually amazing, but like the execution with butter cream is even crazier.
The three-tiered cake was absolutely gorgeous! They took the challenge to the next level! But that first cake ... oh. wow. I loved the spooky vibe it gave without being intentional. I agree a black board would have elevated the look, and I can totally see this one on someone's table at a Halloween party.
THANK YOU for doing a buttercream challenge! It's wonderful to see buttercream shine as the main attraction. Although fondant can make amazingly detailed and even realistic decorations on cakes, I absolutely loathe eating it. Buttercream for the win! That first cake of the Veiled Virgin was amazingly well done. Although I think it could also make an appearance at a Halloween party very easily. ***chefs kiss** The second cake understood the assignment perfectly. The third cake at first glance was my favorite visually. I'm not even upset that the flowers weren't buttercream. It was beautiful. That the flavors were not what was ordered and the bottom layer was so strongly alcohol flavored was where my disappointment settled.
These are all beautiful cakes, especially with butter cream! For the buttercream flowers cake, I would be disappointed if I paid $500 for a specific design and they really didn’t do that and they didn’t even give me the correct flavors, that’s not cool ://
I really like the addition of the waterfall to the 2nd cake. I think it brings the focus from all the small details to the big bright centrepiece. So when you look at the cake, you don’t get lost - rather get slowly submerged into the painted world of seasons. Also, the orange smudges, I believe, are leaves in the water, all according to the seasonal scheme. I am honestly amazed by how many details were present on the cake ... - it really does look like a painting 🖼 . An edible painting! Wow. And the dance of colours, the depth of dimension through layering and different colour shades and shapes, and all! 😮🥰😍 Truly amazing. As a very attentive to details person, I can truly appreciate all the work and attention that went into all of the small pieces of the cake decoration. All three cakes were wonderfully beautiful! ❤ thank you to all the decorators with their unique ideas and to Laurie for making this challenge come to RUclips for all of us to enjoy :) ☺️🎉

I loved the second one, but for the waterfall to make sense I would have put winter on top, you know like our actual waterfalls come from melting snow in the mountains sometimes 🤔 just a thought, but they’re all gorgeous
It made sense for me, but then, I come from a tropical country with no winter and our waterfalls get formed from either mountain springs or rivers falling off cliffs 🤷♀Funny how the same thing can happen in different ways depending on the part of the world you are from

Maybe its just me, but I would be annoyed if I paid $1500 for the last cake - its nothing like what you asked for, and the tiers aren't even laying flat. It was a nice cake, but seems a bit lazy compared to the others. The other two are absolutely STUNNING! My jaw dropped when I saw both of them 😍 People are so talented
The colors in the waterfall are on purpose! The spring tier has green in the blue to mimic the water reflecting the trees. The fall tier has the orange, brown, etc to mimic the leaves that has fallen into the water! The winter tier is more white for that frost & ice.
The crumbs are most definitely deliberate and meant to mimic marble’s natural lines. I think they did an absolutely phenomenal job. Honestly they’re all art, but the first was just spectacular! ❤
The cake of the Veiled Virgin is absolutely stunning, someone clearly doesn’t understand great taste. And the fact the baker chose the white board instead of your suggested black is brilliant. Black would have taken away from it. Art is objective but the fact you didn’t know it was meant to be a marble statue 😮 also the different seasons cake had leaves isn’t the waterfall cuz it’s fall.
Why are you taking a person's opinion to heart..weird..just bcuz someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they do not "appreciate" or "recognize" the beauty in something.

@@Samew0001 Completely disagree with you and I'm not the only one.
@@shirinf333 oh wow I'm so scared. What are you gonna do? Berate me? People are allowed to disagree y'know.
I think the first cake was supposted to be a version of The Veiled Virgin it's a very famous statue and is some if the prettiest marble work ever.
I had no idea!! Clearly I need to visit some art museums!!
Yes!!
It's one of the most amazing marble sculptures ever imo. It looks like fabrics, but it's obviously not. I could watch it for hours and never get enough.
It's one of the most impressive works of art as well. Carving a face veiled by translucent cloth in a medium like marble is the height of skill.
Thank you for the love on the “Veiled Virgin Marble statue inspired cake. You are spot on.
Thanks a ton. You read my mind behind adding the orange tones in the waterfall 😁
The first one is a remake of a famous marble bust called "the Veiled Virgin" by Giovanni Straza and is actually pretty spot on
Thank you for the love on the “Veiled Virgin Marble statue inspired cake.
This statue was famously featured in Pride and Prejudice (2005) at Darcy's residency!
@@missblondiam That was the Veiled Vestal by Rafaelle Monti. Still a beautiful sculpture though!
@@meganm9921 Oh really? I always thought it was The Veiled Virgin! In a quick glance they look similar but you are totally right!
The first cake was my favorite. It was almost a flawless replication of the statue. The crumbs felt intentional since the real status is actually quite aged. I do think it would have been extra spectacular with a little airbrushing to enhance shadows
Second one was too over the top and felt too childlike.
Third one didn’t follow the brief..
Cool video!
Thank you for the love on the “Veiled Virgin Marble statue inspired cake.
The second cake was very artistic imo nit childish...
How was it childlike
I agree completely! The second cake was child like because they threw in every thing and the kitchen sink, the buttercream painting skills were very poor and it was muddy/messy color work. It was like a kid described every season to a drunk Bob Ross and he tried to paint it as fast as he could. 😂
@@saimashupti469 childish and childlike are 2 different words with different implications, the latter often being used to depict or describe a characteristic in a positive light.
The marble statue is the best one. That was extremely high skill, both in art, and in buttercream use. It's an absolute show stopper
Thank you for the love on the “Veiled Virgin Marble statue inspired cake. You are spot on.

I feel like the waterfall completes the life cycle...the tree grows up to the top and the waterfall brings it all back down to recycle through...
Thanks.. your interpretation is really amazing♥, didn't think of it when working on the cake 🙂
I'm so nervous that they swapped two customers' orders!! 😱
@@emily-rainbeetle7856 it could have been two cakes were boxed and ready to go out and the boxes got switched.
Bakeries don’t get to just change flavors without tell you…
Absolutely the white marble cake is an amazing look. I'd love to know a bakery by me who could make a cake like that.
Thank you for the love on the “Veiled Virgin Marble statue inspired cake. You are spot on.
I think the baker gave her the wrong one...
@@hannahpumpkins4359 I agree 🥴
@@hannahpumpkins4359 That would be crazy, and I totally agree! I wonder what it actually looked like… (IF it was a mistake…)
You are so right. Fondant is gross .
Agreed!
Likewise, learned in the 90s. It's interesting seeing some of the techniques of that era come back into fashion again. It makes me think I could take up cake decorating again!! 😆
100% agree buttercream taste so much better. Not fond of fondant! Lol
Come on girl give some appreciation to the first one its so breathtaking
I flinched when Laurie cut into the floral cake, I don’t think it was hers! I think they should have called the bakery and checked - even if the bakery couldn’t accept it back I can’t help thinking that it was someone else’s special cake and clearly a lot of work went into it. If it was my special occasion and not only did I get the wrong cake and there’s no time to create a new one, some lady on RUclips ate mine, I would probably cry!
Honestly I wouldn’t have been happy with that leaning cake anyway 🙊
They wouldn't take it back after it left the store
I am SO in love with the second cake! It reminds me of a Bob Ross painting, and it's got such lovely serene vibes.
With winter being so dramatic with temperatures, snow, ice, and wind the bottom tier showing the most dramatic details, and the largest tier showing the grand drama and changes the northern hemisphere goes through every winter.
you are definitely over analyzing it. i seriously doubt the size of the layers is relevant to the story. its just a tiered cake.
Thank you for the amazing interpretation and love on my seasons cake
Glad you noticed🙏🏻

When you get a cake that went so wrong (wrong decor, wrong flavors), do/did you contact the bakery?
That first cake really caught my attention in the thumbnail! I’m an art history major and I was so excited to see someone take on the challenge of recreating the sculpture through the medium of cake. They did an amazing job, especially with using buttercream, too! I'm very impressed!🥰
The first cake was great but the second cake stood out to me as someone who uses oil paints. The texture and layering were beautiful and the colors fit the theme of each tier perfectly. I also love the tree and waterfall tying the piece together. A lot of thought and effort when into that cake and it’s beautiful.
The veiled virgin cake is absolutely stunning
The first sculpture was the show stopper no doubt. It was incredible! So much thought and effort went into that!
On the second cake my guess is the "orange/yellow" smear in the waterfall is supposed to be the reflection of the fall leaves.
Omg idk why anyone isn't talking about the second cake? It's absolutely so gorgeous, it's actual art and honestly I would pay more than 500$ for it if it were for a wedding or smth
They’re all obsessed with the boring marble statue one lol
@desirayward maybe boring, but infinitely more impressive from a technical standpoint.
because its impressive and u couldnt do it even if u tried, sweetheart.@@hothoneymustard
Not for $500.
this is probably the one that took the most time to do because of it's complexity (as a clay and paint artist)
Laurie said "buttercream" a total of 37 times, in case anyone was wondering.
Is that all?! Thanks!
I counted 40.
I counted 42.
Why is this not the top comment 😂
I got 40 😅
The Veiled Virgin cake was the best one in my opinion, the level of skill and detail that had to go into it is just amazing
Love how Archie was RIGHT THERE as soon as you dropped the cake slice, like, “oooh, is that piece for me?!” 😂♥️
That statue one is actually what I was most excited for!
I love how Kevin is trying solidify his "retirement" lmao
Thank you for the love on the “Veiled Virgin Marble statue inspired cake. You are spot on.
Just as I was worrying that Archie was never going to get up on the couch Kevin went and gave him the nod and soothed my anxiety thank goodness
The first two cakes went above and beyond in their own way. The third one was gorgeous but it does miss the mark on the challenge.
That first cake is a take on a specific marble technique and it is incredible!
Yess! Finally more of these videos 😊. Why don't you pay three one star bakeries to bake a cake of you ? I think it would be fun 😊
Why don't you pay five 1 star bakeries to bake something, maybe something super "on trend" to make it easy for them. I reckon we'll see a real mix of outcomes - including discovering some real talent buried in a 1 star.

That 3 seasons cake w the waterfall... incredible 😍
I’m so glad the people in the comments are giving the first cake the recognition it deserved. Absolutely breathtaking work ❤
the beauty and skill of the marble statue is the ability to imply the form under the sheet while capturing the flow and texture of the sheet in something that isn't easily textured
Of course rendering texture is difficult, in both buttercream and marble, so I think the form and technique used should be much more heavily appreciated here
It's incredibly difficult to imply a sheer fabric draped over a face, and that decorator did an amazing job of it.
Would love an update to see if they contacted you about cake #3, being the wrong one haha?
Wow the artistry of these cakes is awesome! The seasons cake is certainly my favorite, I love the different layering techniques.
The three-tiered cake was absolutely gorgeous! They took the challenge to the next level! But that first cake ... oh. wow. I loved the spooky vibe it gave without being intentional. I agree a black board would have elevated the look, and I can totally see this one on someone's table at a Halloween party.
We need Thanksgiving themed carved cakes with ‘fall’ flavors- pumpkin, apple, maple, ginger… that would be so fun to see!
Hey! Loved this video
Why don't you ask 3 bakeries to make a cake according to the different wedding destinations? That would be fun!
this is a good idea! like venue? cuz maybe a beach wedding vs a forest wedding vs. idk like a chapel ?
I think the orange in the waterfall might have been an attempt at reflections of the fall leaves in the water.
Favorite was the second cake. There was so much but it tied so well. I liked the waterfall tho. I’d say it was a great touch
***chefs kiss**
The second cake understood the assignment perfectly.
Truly amazing.
Beautiful cakes but I think the second one is my favorite. I love that they captured each season and they just did such a beautiful job

It's always so interesting how different the interpretation of your instructions are with each artist/bakery! Love these challenges!
I loved the second one, but for the waterfall to make sense I would have put winter on top, you know like our actual waterfalls come from melting snow in the mountains sometimes 🤔 just a thought, but they’re all gorgeous
It made sense for me, but then, I come from a tropical country with no winter and our waterfalls get formed from either mountain springs or rivers falling off cliffs 🤷♀Funny how the same thing can happen in different ways depending on the part of the world you are from
You know Laurie LOVES the cake when she has no words and just says “mmmm mmmm” “that’s so so good❤😊
Hi, Queen!! I've been watching you for quite a long time now and I didnt realize I just graduated from college earlier. Time flies so fast 😭😭 Still love your great contents 💜💜💜
The first cake is so beautiful and artistic, it give a veiled look using buttercream. The detailing is amazing.
The Veiled Virgin (first one) is beautiful.
Thank you for the love on the “Veiled Virgin Marble statue inspired cake.
#2 us a master piece. It's simply amazing! You find amazing cake artists!
All beautiful cakes but I think #2 took this challenge! It’s breathtaking!
