My first ever BIRTHDAY cakes ordered from a bakery! For my birthday this year we wanted to go all out and make a really fun video of getting our favorite bakeries to surprise me with EPIC cakes based off something they think I would love, and oh did they blow me away!!! Someone made ME into cake, a giant topsy turvy stack of foods as cake with me on top and an insane 3D carved stand mixer with everything edible (even the pipping bag!!!!) WHAT?!?! Omg.

That 3rd cake would absolutely steal the show at any party or event. And the fact that it was only $1000 is actually insane. I definitely thought $1500-$1800 dollars at least.
I would charged that or even $2000 since so many layers and details. I don't fault the cake for it falling over. It came by vehicle, no telling how long it's been sitting for her to do the video and usually take the off the tiers before cutting rhem so it's really her fault if she thinks going stay standing.

Lots of love for all bakeries, the cakes are all gorgeous... BUT I can't believe Laurie chose the first one as the favorite! I mean, the 3rd one is on a WHOLE other level, and I don't think I've ever seen such a cool birthday cake before. The details, the personalization, the flavor (apparently), and the construction are insane. I mean, even the taco was a cake! The amount of research they did was also so impressive, and I feel that after all that work and having gone through 3 trucks to get that cake over to her, they probably were a bit disappointed that she chose the first one that was so much more rushed =/
Yeah, I would've been offended if I were them. All that effort, just for her to choose the sloppiest cake out of the three as her fave...
Right?? That was my thoughts! They had like a perfect replica of her dog on there and all these hyper detailed versions of all of her favorite foods. A cake that looked exactly like her trip and her truck and trailer. Like how does it get more personal than that third cake?? They went ABOVE and BEYOND. I was floored.
The first cake in concept is really good. But the square base at the bottom was boring and lazily decorated, the figure doesn't hold up to closer inspection. The third cake, that's the one that draws attention and honestly matched what she hoped for before seeing any of the cakes.
I loved them all, but honestly my favorite was the first one too. Sure the skill wasn’t on the same level, but I like what I like😋
I think she liked the concept. She clearly loved them all and picked the last as the best tasting.
The 3rd one is insane!!!! Definitely worth the 1000$. But all bakeries did a great job. Happy birthday from Germany 😊

My GOD that $1k cake is so gorgeous and detailed, I think worth every single penny. Its one of those once-in-a-lifetime type cakes thats so well thought out. Im shocked with how much detail and how cool everything looks on it!

I loved the fact that ALL of the cakes components were edible! When you pay that much money for a cake, you want it ALL to be edible. Hands down, the third cake for 1,000 dollars was Ahhhhh-MAZING. The second cake with all the detail of the mixer was INCREDIBLE! The first cake was lovely, but I just didn't get a WOW out of it for the price. Happy Birthday!

i think the second one was super personalized! if it had just been any old kitchen aid mixer it wouldn't have been, but she made your mixer specifically, and the logo on the brick wall made it look like something out of a video :) and the fact that it's all edible... wowzers. third cake obviously takes it (it being "the cake") but i would HOPE so at 1k!
I cant believe her favorite cake was the first one...To me it was lazy creatively and sloppy. The third one hit a home run🙌😍

Definitely sloppy and simple details were missed regardless of price. Like the cardigan not being attached and the color of the lips. I’d be mad for the price.

its especially disappointing considering how many AMAZING cakes they've gotten from that bakery before. you'd think that if you have a repeat customer (who also is technically advertising your works) asking for an expensive birthday cake you would put insane effort into making it perfect.
So for next in the series, an insane decorated cake that is BUTTERCREAM ONLY! No fondant, gum paste, etc. all decoration is butter cream only.

As a baker myself, I love how simple and neat the 1st cake was however, the 3rd cake was just gorgeous! Just picture it at a little girl's birthday party - it will be such a showstopper!
The first one is far from neat…the figure is very poorly done. I think if someone is in business and selling cakes for hundreds of dollars, and modeling figures isn’t their strong suit, there’s no shame in buying molds to help…face molds, body molds etc…I’ve seen some amazing ones…and it makes sense to save on time also.
It was not neat lol i’m no baker but I think I could have done way better than that first one it was awful

I'm a baker too and because of that, I immediately could point out all the flaws and imperfections. It wasn't neat lol and to be honest, too plain. If a week and a half notice wasn't enough for them to work with such a large budget, they should've declined the order.
Laurie didn't talk about all the imperfections of that first cake though. If you look at the unicorn cake you can see a big tear in the fondant right above the left eye(unicorn's left, our right). That is such a simple detail that you can't mess up. It's a regular round cake. There is something wrong if a pro can't cover a small round cake without ripping the fondant and then allows it to be in the finished product. That was unacceptable.
Ok the last one killed it. Like slam dunk! They did an amazing job! Hit everything on the nail and included soo much detail. I've been patiently waiting for another video and this was perfect! Happy Birthday Laurie!!!!
It’s $1k! It better be slam dunk. People only pay that for a wedding cake unless rich.
I'm leaning towards the second or third cakes over the first. They could have done a lot with a simple damp brush to smooth out some of those rough edges and there were scratches in the fondant that didn't need to be there. It looked a little rushed, and if the other two did theirs in the same window of time without making mistakes, the first one should have been just as capable.
I agree that the first one could have been better, but the size of the business may have been a factor. If I recall correctly, the first one is a home bakery, so likely a 1-2 person operation. If the other shops have more people, they can get more done in the same time span.
Also there’s a difference in price as well (450 in the first, 800 in the second and 1000 in the third). The prices also reflect this.☺️
@@myladycasagrande863 I understand and somewhat agree, however, I have purchased cakes for cheaper than this, made by one person, done in a similar or less of a time frame, and they were not that messy. I am shocked the person who made cake #1 sent that to Laurie. I made a fondant cake once and I was able to smooth my fondant out better that this. This person is supposed to be a professional and they charged $450!!!! That is not a small amount of money. Imagine you got that cake for your daughter on her birthday, would you be happy with it? I wouldn't. I would be upset as its a mess, scratched, torn, ripped apart, you can see bits on unmixed dye, you can see the hand was thrown together and had black dye on it, there were chunks of fondant falling off the cake like where the shirt/collar meets the neck, the seams were the raw edges of the fondant and not even cut straight etc. That is so unprofessional and unacceptable. You do not send a cake out looking like that.
@@SS-td7hg A cheaper price doesn’t justify poor execution. Everything should be done properly, you got a professional because you want professional results. The price tag should just mean things are on a smaller scale and with less components/extravagance not bad quality.

what i love about the third cake is that it has vegan cakes built into it. perfect for any guests who have eating restrictions, it's built right into the whole cake! the baker really thought things out

@@savvasf7136 it looks like it's divided safely. i'm vegan and as long as it wasn't contaminated i'd eat it. i'm assuming the baker took precautions when adding the vegan layers :)
I LOVED THE BAKING THEMED ONE! I don’t understand what Laurie sees in that 1st cake. It was messy, the gold foil was sloppy, and just wasn’t creative. The other two were phenomenal!
i dunno i don't think it was that bad, it was... sweet. simple. if it didn't have to stand up against an $800 and a $1000 cake it looked quite good. just not so jazzy.

@@gigglesfollowed There's a difference between simple and well put together and simple because someone ran out of time. Just some air brushing to create different shadows on the clothes, putting seams together better, and smoothing out more of the wrinkles would have made it look soooo much better!

I thought they could have done something (anything!) with that white box. It was too plain. Even if they just airbrushed some color on it and put something around the bottom of it.
Wow the third cake is insane. Love the vegan elements as well. The baking team put a lot of thought into the details!
I love how much work they put in for the $1000 cake. Like they literally put Lauri on frosting.
For the first bakery, I’ve absolutely LOVED their previous cakes in this series, but sadly I’m disappointed, they did not do this cake justice. Unfortunately too many obvious messy details and for the price, they still could have neatened it up a little more.

I'd say 3rd cake is 10/10, second cake is 8/10 the proportions of the stand mixer were a little off and the 1st cake 5/10 from a distance looked great but the close ups..the detail was beyond disappointing. Considering the other cakes you've shown from this bakery, I did not like it.
Agreed. I thought she was too generous to the first one, things can be simple and good but the first one just looked slapped together to me.

Watching all the baking competitions on Food Network has "trained" me to look at details like seams in the fondant, sloppy work on hands/faces, etc. I saw so many issues with that first cake, and I was disappointed. It was such a cute idea, but it looked rushed. The third cake was the most personalized - not just her name and/or likeness, but other things that matter in her life. The second cake had a lot of impressive details, but, like she said, was rather generic.

The last cake reminds me of the cakes from the baking competitions on TV. Definitly a work of skilled cake sculptors. And 3 flavors, winning!! But the mixer cake was Amazingly realistic.
Cake-you is just adorable and I can't imagine actually cutting into and eating it! The second one, the edible gelatin piping bag absolutely blew my mind, what the actual heck?? How.... Dang!! Laurie's little freak-out trying to move a cake onto a table with her eyes closed had me laughing so hard. That last one though, that last one was just miles above the others, my goodness!! (I type my comments as I'm watching, in case this feels especially disjointed...) Laurie's facial expressions when she tastes each cake, that's always one of my favorite parts of these videos. She looks like she's absolutely in love, lol.

I feel like if the 1st cake perfected all those teeny details, it would be my favorite of all of them. Simple concept, all about Laurie, and obvious birthday cake.
The 2nd cake was great, the egg shells and the piping bag were my favorite. I just feel like it was too impersonal. If it weren't for Laurie's logo, it could be mistaken for a bakery opening cake or something.
Now, the third cake was just insane! Loved the topsy turvy and the taco! I think all I can say on it that weren't already said is that it feels more of a "Congratulations on the 4.6M subscribers" kind of cake rather than a birthday cake.
Either way, all of them were great and wished I lived around the area so I can order from then as well!!

Seeing the realism cakes that I absolutely love I think Laurie should do a realism cake. Like a cake that looks like something real!
The mixer cake was a miss for me... The icing looks grey and more like dirt as oppose to icing. They could've done a fun nod to your hair color by doing purple icing.
The first cake was a bit messy in my opinion and could have had some parts neatened up.
The third cake quite literally took the cake for me! It is stunning and full of you!!

the third cake is stunning but there's just too much going on for me. but totally worth the money. the first one is a really great price but i don't like the crystal L and some of it looks unfinished. love the photograph collage on the cake board though, very creative.

The last cake is the best cake! As soon as I saw it I, I bursted into tears (pregnancy hormones 😭) because they included everything you’ve described about yourself making it extremely personal!
They are all gorgeous! I agree that the blender wasn't personalized enough, but for the other two, the tall cake is absolutely amazing, but for a party, how could you even start cutting into that? It's an absolute show stopper, but the simpler design of the first one leaves more room for the real star of the party, the birthday girl, to shine.

I feel like the first cake was a one woman show that tried to squeeze you in on top of other orders so that's why it wasn't as detailed as previous cakes.
Cake #2 was awesome and I would love to see how the built the structure of that mixer!
Cake #3 was built by a team. Awesome work! It only fell apart bc it was cut. I never recommend that my cakes be left out for long periods of time but I also live in the south.
Love these videos! Especially because everyone has such different styles and taste preferences. I actually think I like the first one the most. Mostly just because of the styles but also in relation to price.

i love the mixer one, so impressive it's ALL cake! It's so disappointing when there's an awesome cake but over half of it is styrofoam, i feel like that should not happen. At the end of the day it's supposed to be CAKE. They are all great, mixer one is most impressive

I was a huge fan in the past, but then a year ago learned I had celiac disease and I stopped watching because I was heartbroken knowing I could never enjoy such amazing cakes like this again. But now that I’ve come to terms with my diagnosis I’m able to appreciate the artistry again and OMG these cakes are fantastic each in their own ways!! I especially love the truck with camper and mountain background layer. ❤️
Do you think you could ever make a video based on gluten free cakes or bakeries? Are there any of those in your area? It would be really neat to see what’s possible since I know it can be such a difficult texture to get right!
Hey hun! I'm so sorry you've been going through such a hard time with your health. I've been struggling for the past few years with what I have allergies to and it's still a journey. Basically having a horrible reaction to everything I eat and can't pin point the actaul problem. Not being able to enjoy the things you love to eat is such a sturggle.
I'd love to do a video on gluten free cakes! I think it's such a challenging recipe to master!

A lot of people in America, get diagnosed with Celiac and/or lactose intolerance but really arent, its just how bad the products in America are.
